Alt Hotel Ottawa Downtown (Ottawa, Ontario) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"In the heart of the business district, Alt Ottawa stands out for doing things simply and well. Rooms are bright, uncluttered, and well-equipped, with floor-to-ceiling windows, rainfall showers, and high-definition TVs. ALTCETERA, the all-day café and bar, offers easy meals and better-than-expected coffee, while a 24-hour gym handles off-hours workouts. Parliament Hill, the Rideau Canal, and light rail stations are all within walking distance. For travelers who don’t need turn-down service or lobby theatrics, this is the kind of place that makes getting in and out of town feel refreshingly easy." - Tablet Hotels

Good hotel in centre of Ottawa. Travelled from UK, not sure what to expect for area and parking but everything was easy. This is not a hotel brand we are familiar but all standard.||Standard two double bed. Spacious bathroom with big bath and shower. Good shampoo products provided. Lovely big towels.|I didn't like to decor too much. Concrete unfinished style and very dark carpet. But very spacious room and clean.|Staff super friendly.|Parking not available at hotel. But lots of Ingio multi story carparks in the nearby area. The one across the road was being upgraded but we easily found one just around the corner. GBP£23 for two nights stay.|You can pull up outside the hotel to load luggage.|AC, fridge, wardrobes. Bar and pool table in lobby area.||Easy walking distance to Ottawa sights. Parliament building, Rideau canal and other city sights.

This was a great stay for a weekend in Ottawa. The staff are very helpful and the location is a short walk to a lot of sites, shopping, and food options. The area felt very safe at all times including a wobbly walk home later at night. There is no hotel parking but they have options nearby. The room was unique in how the shower looks into the main space and visaversa. It is frosted glass but that only protects you much. The closet was a bit of a treasure hunt and there are no drawers to lay out any clothes outside your suitcase. It was a large room though and the bed was comfortable. There is a Nespresso machine with pods for you to use. That was a nice touch. The hotel was busy but also very quiet. My room was at the end of the hall and I never heard anything from any other guest. The lobby has a nice little coffee shop/bar. Be sure to ask how much things are because two late night (probably not needed) glasses of house wine set me back $40 with tip. The hotel sends you a link before arrival so you can set up your account and check out was super easy. Overall I would ABSOLUTELY visit Ottawa again but with more time. I would also stay at this hotel again.

I'm usually a huge fan of the Alt as I've stayed in a few locations. Surprised there is NO parking at this location, especially considering the price tag per room and the deep winter cold of Ottawa in the winter. Didn't make sense to me. The check in was easy enough and room was clean and roomy, however I had requested a room away from the elevator and got put into the accessible room (not needed) directly access across from the elevator lol. I understand that it may have been due to availability reasons, but the walk back from dropping off my car in a random outdoor parking lot (freezing!), the room location just left a bad taste in my mouth. I'd recommend this place in the summer or if you're not driving, but - 20s walks with luggage.. That's a pass for me.

We went to the bar (Lounge Alt Ottawa) and it was out of everything - no tonic, no lager, no mint, no grenadine, no egg whites. The bartender was very accommodating but she could not make half the drinks on the menu as she didn’t have the ingredients! We contemplated leaving but the bartender, Grace, was so kind and accommodating. Please restock your bar so we can try more drinks on the menu! 3 starts only because of Grace, otherwise this would be a 1 star review.

Google
Very nice and cozy place! Also very kind service. We had check-in at 3:00 PM, but we arrived earlier and wanted to ask if we could leave our suitcases until our check-in time, to which we were told that they could check us in two hours earlier. Thank you!

This was a great hotel for a few nights. Right downtown, great service, and fun decor. Room was also great for the price. No parking, but easily solved by the amount of public parking lots nearby for reasonable prices.

Google
While the rooms were clean, the staff polite, and the location central, this hotel is absolutely not worth $235/night. I requested an upper floor with a view, and the front desk said “no problem” — but failed to mention that none of the rooms actually have a view. The windows are tiny and look directly onto concrete walls and pipes. The so-called “views” are not just limited — they are depressing. There’s no fridge, no complimentary water, and when I asked for water, I was told to go down and purchase it from the bar. To make matters worse, the hotel has no parking; you’re left circling busy downtown Ottawa to find street parking and then pay extra for it. The building itself is tucked behind a condo/apartment complex, leaving the place with zero atmosphere. For the price, the experience feels misleading and offers limited value, leaving you disappointed about basic necessities.

Google
Great overall hotel with a business focus. It can also accomodate vacation travelers however it's focus on business means it lacks traditional vacation amenities. Great for hosting small events of 50-100

Yelp
I love alt hotel in Toronto by the airport. I always hang out in their lounge when early picking up realitives. Based on the comfort and peace found hanging out in their lounges in Toronto I chose staying for 1 night in Ottawa travelling there for work. The experience was just as I expected the lobby vibes, the staff and the rooms. The bed was so much more comfortable than when I stay at the Westin Hotel. The pillows are divine!!

Yelp
The Alt Hotel Ottawa is a perfectly fine hotel. It has a lot of character in its lobby and then little to none in their hotel rooms. I found myself gravitating toward the lobby when I was there because it was interesting and captivating but the room was spartan and small. My window looked out onto some ducting and allowed very limited natural light in the space. The rest of the room was functional and practical but not stunning or noteworthy. Like others noted the hotel has no parking and the nearest is a parking garage that I could only access by entering on an adjacent street. It was not entirely convenient. Practical and efficient if you want some place to stay and the little bar is a nice touch.

Yelp
Reasonably priced hotel compared to other surrounding hotels, but if you have a car there is no free parking on the perimeter (You will have to park on the street or go to the paid parking lot across the street). The location is prime as it is in Central downtown and walking distance to many notable places (ie. Parliament Hill, Byward Market, Rideau Center, Chinatown, and Little Italy.) Also to note there is no parking/valet and no swimming pool! On a positive note, they have Nespresso machines in the room, nice bar area in the lobby, and free cancellation until 4pm on the day you're scheduled to arrive if you book directly with the hotel.

Yelp
This was much welcomed. After a mediocre stay in Montreal, and craving going home more than anything... ALT was appreciated. Easy check in. Room is modern, feels very clean and taken care of. There is parking across the street (indigo). The bathroom has a great shower and cool toilet. Hallways and elevators maintained and well lit. I really like this hotel and the chain is worth looking into for other cities/visits.

Yelp
In Ottawa for work and stayed at the Alt. The location is right downtown and very central to everything. There is a great lounge / bar area with a several food options though somewhat limited in terms of food. The rooms are very efficiently laid out, very new and modern. The only thing the room could have used was a small fridge. The wifi throughout the property was great as were all the interactions with the staff. It was a very positive hotel experience and happy to recommend the Alt Hotel Ottawa.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Located in the heart of downtown, their open concept foyer and friendly staff make it a great place to study or just grab a drink with friends. The hotel is premised on the fact that you can enjoy their common areas without needing to stay in one of the rooms. The food is great and reasonably priced, the stuff is so kind and the atmosphere is really one of its kind. Enjoy!

Yelp
Booked via Expedia last second, got a room for $170 total after taxes. Although stated as a 3-star hotel, this is easily a 4-5 star hotel. The room was phenomenal. It was spacious, spotlessly clean, beautiful modern interior and gorgeous bathroom. The location is in the heart of downtown and close to trendy restaurants, pubs and public transport. I highly recommend this place! One of the best hotels i've been in. Would i return? Yes

Yelp
Stayed here for one night while in Ottawa. The hotel is very modern (think W Hotel) and new. It is very centrally located and you can walk to the Parliament building within 5 minutes. From there, it's a short set of stairs down to the locks or a short walk around to Byward Market and the mall. The hotel is right in the best part of downtown. Plenty of food options just down the street. Try Sansotei Ramen, which just opened up one block away from the hotel. The beds are very comfortable. So comfortable that I did not want to get out of bed to see the Parliament building. They're not kidding on their website when they say you come here to "sleep on a cloud". The only issue I had with their room (and this is going to sound silly) is their toilet paper holder. I don't know what is wrong with the design, but no matter what you do, the bar that holds the toilet paper in place comes off and the roll of toilet paper ends up on the floor. If you're unlucky, it'll roll away from you while unraveling. It's pretty funny listening to your travel companions in the restroom and hear the metal toilet paper rod hit the ground. Also, they do not have a parking lot. The nearest parking is across the street in a public lot ($18 per day). The hotel is on a one-way street and the parking lot can be difficult to get to during rush hour as there are signs saying you cannot turn right to head towards the lot. Every single street around the hotel is a one-way street, so it is quite stressful trying to find the hotel and then trying to find parking.

Yelp
This new and modern hotel right in the heart of downtown Ottawa is perfect for travellers who want to be close to a variety of restaurants, the Rideau Center, the Parliament buildings, public transportation (across the street). It is hard to believe for the affordable price of the rooms, the modern chic interior of the hotel which has large spacious showers and comfortable bed. The hotel also has a pool table right beside the bar in the lobby which makes for a fun place to meet friends before heading out into the city.

Yelp
Pretty good priced hotel in central Ottawa. Modern hotel with friendly staff and okay if you need a place to stay. But don't stay here if you don't like leaky showers, don't want to mistaken the "ice bucket" as a trash can (they don't have one in the bedroom... only found out when a lady asked the bartender where the ice bucket is), need a safety box (none), or need an ice/water dispenser on your floor. They also don't have hotel parking so you need to park across the street which is not a problem as there are plenty of spots and $22/night isn't too bad. Stayed during covid and was surprised there was dust on counters... good thing they supplied alcohol wipes

Yelp
This hotel is located in downtown Ottawa. Which is great. Except it does not have it's own parking lot, so you have to park across the street if you have a car. This hotel is part of a small hotel chain - le Germain. Upon arrival, you can tell that it's a relatively new and modern hotel. The rooms are quiet small, comparable to most hotels in downtown Ottawa. The reason for the two stars is for cleaniess. The room we got is not dirty, but you can tell it hasn't been cleaned properly. None of the rooms have fridge or microwave, making it very inconvenient if you are staying more than a day or two. On top of all that, the room we got looks directly into the office building across, which is a very awkward view.

Yelp
Beyond impressed with this hotel. We needed a place to stay in Ottawa and this one happened to be the cheapest at $209/night on a Saturday. It's dog friendly too! We decided to book it and we were pleasantly surprised that the parking across the street (indigo) was free all weekend! That saved us a bit of money. I think Sunday and weeknights the price goes down to $150/night and we were hard pressed if we should stay another just because location is perfect and the room was amazing! They do charge $30 for having a pet but that's pretty standard for all hotels. They were very sweet to get him a bed, a few treats and also a poop bag! LOL! Amazing. Ray, the lady checking us in was very sweet and personally delivered all the items. She was wonderful! The room is gorgeous. We got a queen bed room - the shower does have a half frosted wall that you can see through the bedroom - so if you're not a couple, that would be quite weird to see someone in. The bed and pillows? Hoooooly it's so comfortable. I knocked out like a light! The decor is very trendy and modern -- with pops of colours. They kept the bed white which really makes it feel more clean and inviting. Would definitely stay here again. Bookmarked for future reference !

Yelp
The service here is exceptional! I really like this hotel. I never had a car here so can't comment on the parking. The bar area in the lobby is a great place for gathering. The location is great, close to so much. However outside of business hours Mon-Fri 9 to 5 ish so many places are closed. This is not the fault of the hotel it is just typical for Ottawa.

Yelp
Stay in Alt Hotel for a business trip. The overall service and room setting is great. The best part is: I lost my Kindle in the room when I checked out. They help me find my device, and mail back to my home in Toronto in just one day. Really appreciate that!!

Yelp
I have to give this a three stars. This is a modern and aesthetically pleasing hotel. The rooms are fine. The challenge with this place is the food situation. It's cafeteria style and they do run out of what limited selection they have. Also, there are no refrigerators in the rooms, so of you want anything to eat in the morning, before you get ready, you have to venture down in your jammies. Also, the staff is very young and act it. Often, they seem more concerned with talking to each other than serving. The bar/food area perpetually feels understaffed.

Yelp
No mini bar, no room service, and totally ignored in the lobby bar. It's really hard to give them money. Or get a drink after 11 pm

Yelp
New hotel (opened in 2016), great location, great price! I recently stayed at the Alt Hotel for the first time. I had a standard queen room, paid about $160 a night. It was not a bad price and everything in the hotel was new - the amenities, the mattress, bed sheets. The room was very modern-simplistic, with bare concrete strategically left in certain areas, and an industrial type ceiling. Very cool look. Room was decent sized with a beautiful washroom and great lighting (so important yet underrated - especially for women trying to do their makeup!) there were large bottles of soap, lotion, conditions, shampoo and body wash in the room, so you don't have to worry about lugging yours with you. This hotel does not have a check out, rather you tell them when you want to leave (very cool concept!) I stayed in the room until 12, but they were happy to accommodate me until later if I needed to. Once I checked out, I was able to leave my luggage with them until late evening (bonus!) the hotel has a bar/cafe downstairs that is open 24 hours. Overall, great experience for the price - will stay here again!

Yelp
Great place to stay while in Ottawa on business! Super friendly staff, clean and centrally located. Really funky and love the open lobby-bar area -cozy and nice way to relax at the end of the day.

Yelp
A great Boutique-style hotel. I love the modern, sleek and clean decor. The hotel supports artists by displaying their work (big thumbs up for this). If you are a fan of Kimpton hotels in USA (San Francisco in California, Miami, Florida) or Blue Radisson Hotel (in Madrid, Spain), you will totally appreciate this place and feel at home. As I am writing, this is a brand new hotel location. Opened only a few months ago. Well located, downtown Ottawa. Fair price. Beautiful room design. The WiFi was excellent in our room. On the 17th Floor, we had a pretty good view (even though it's mostly office buildings in the area). The bar/lounge offers a really nice space with a pool table and tv screens. Food is good. Menu offers variety (salads including a vegetarian option, cheese board, charcuterie, etc.) Very friendly and professional service at front desk and at the bar. Staff is bilingual (Français/English) which is great and expected in the capital of the Canada. A small thing we could mention about the lights in the room: they are not all independently managed and this means you can't isolate some as desired. If you want the light on above the desk and the track lights out for the other guest sleeping, it's not currently possible. Other than that this is a fantastic place. I will come back if I have a chance.

Yelp
although I lost my virginity here, for the third time. after the rest of my stay, it was so bad I think I regained it. to star off, when I got to my room, it smelt like feet. once I put my stuff down and sat on my bed, I noticed a wet sorta sticky spot on the ground beside my feet. once I smelt it and tasted it I realized it was a pile of donkey jizz. because of that, when my girl came over to fuck, I had to hide the jizz with my pants. fml. the bed was ok, a little squeaky but it was hard to hear the sound well my girl was moaning crazy loud from me pegging her from behind. after she left, I got hungry, so I went to get some food. I got the mushroom chicken, as I was eating it I found hairs in it. yes, that was just extra protein for me, it was still hella gross. after about 20 minutes of eating the food, the toilet in the bathroom walked over to me, started dancing, at first it was like really hot because who doesn't love some good toiled ass here and there. but that wasn't all, midway through the dance the toiled jumped on my lap, not only did it my sex pants wet, but it also got my good pants I used to cover the donky jizz wet. because of that i had no choice other than to knock it out. (R.I.P jizzabell the twerking toilet) the first night was a little hectic, yes i added wipped creme to some girls taco, but the room was still shit. i said to myself "ima go to bed and it will be all good the next morning" i went to bed. the next morning i woke up do a donky fucking the maniger of the hotell in my room, after that i understood why i found a heaping pile of donky jizz on my floor. btw NOT COOL!!! anywase i went to order breakfast, and i orderd eggs and coke, i got eggs, but they added this sugar stuff on top of it, and they forgot the coke. anywase the eggs were good, after eating them i felt very very energised witch was good. with that energy i maniged to pack my stuff in my suit case, jack off on the bathroom floor as pay back for having donky jizz on my floor, and get out of there. all in all i think my trip to ottawa was semi good!
