"Don't leave town without stopping at this bustling coffee bar, located at the base of Albion. Known both for their tasty espresso drinks and welcoming staff, Alta Java also specializes in treats such as homemade biscotti, made-to-order baked waffles, and fresh-baked pastries which are favorites of both visitors and locals alike. Susie's Special (named after the owner!) is a menu mainstay and one of their best-sellers, combining both a chai latte and a double shot of espresso for the pick-me-up you will likely need after a memorable day of skiing." - Travel + Leisure Editors

I’m a regular customer at this café each year when we visit Utah for skiing in the winter. I would have to say that their prices have increased and their service has decreased. In the last four days I visited this coffee shop twice because I do enjoy their Susie’s chai latte as well as their waffles. This time everything was disappointing. The Susie chai latte had a very odd after taste. The waffle the first time was overcooked and second time undercooked. They charge two dollars for two strawberries for the waffle toppings. I decided to give them another chance, and their HorChata latte was very watery without flavor. And they are not very friendly. They ask for a tip upfront, which you feel forced to give before you get your food. All in all the place I used to highly recommend to visit has become a place I highly recommend not to visit.

Super nice people and delicious selection coffees. I had a Mexican mocha latte, bought a T-shirt, and enjoyed a freshly baked waffle. Pretty moist and sweet. Can't beat the view

The best coffee in the area and delicious pastries too!

I would suggest closing earlier if you do not want to serve customers after 4:00 . The owner ( I presumed ) was extremely rude. We tried to order at 4:20 and my daughter asked if she still had waffles to which she replied . “ no like I said before. We received our coffees but was booted of the chairs as she was yelling that she was trying to get her staff down the canyon while she was pulling chairs and tables out from under customers . My coffee’s was good but spoiled by the rude , unwelcoming snobby treatment. I do know you have a captive audience on the mountain but grace and appreciation for people supporting your small business with their hard earned money would greatly be appreciated . The wonderful day of skiing was tainted by this experience.

A note on professionalism. I ordered 2 coffees from Alta Java. As I brought out my credit card to pay (prior to receiving my coffee), the barista asked if I would like to add tip. I politely said, “no thank you.” The barista then looked blankly and said, “interesting choice.” To management - I recommend you discuss lack of professionalism with your staff. Many customers believe that tipping is something done after service, not prior.

Had a fantastic americano and the most amazing jalapeño cheddar scone. The scone was freaking ridiculous.

Owner was nasty mean about people sitting in her chairs. We ordered $30 of food. Side note: They verbally asked up front for gratuity. Forgot my espresso in the order until I reminded them. Piled my items among another order of food on the counter(Covid violation) 30 min later I’m still sitting In her chairs with the sandwiches wrappers visible and finishing the purchased water. The owner proceeds to walk out and start barking people out of the chairs that she perceived have been there too long. I politely challenged her and she said “oh you ordered awhile ago” in a mean tone. More people chimed in that had ordered items and she shouts to the entire group “I’m the owner and I’ll just take the chairs in”. The entire event was strange and she was way out of line and not very business conscious. Meanie owner.

Yelp
I grab coffee here almost every time I ski at Alta. Sometimes twice! Conveniently located by the Sunnyside lift with a couple tables & chairs to eat your snack. They have a variety of coffee & non-coffee drinks, delicious treats, and some breakfast/lunch items. They're always friendly and yes they ask if you'd like to leave a tip, which I always do because they're hand-making a special coffee for you on the side of a mountain! The drink prices are comparable to most coffee shops in the valley. Say hi to Perla, the most beautiful black lab who hangs out here. It's fun to watch her run through the snow at the end of the day too!

Yelp
I wanted to like this place, but there are several reasons I am giving it one star. The Buffalo chicken wrap is overly soaked in sauce and almost inedible. The paninis are plain at best: hardly anything inside, slapped between two slices of bread for $15! They ask if you would like to add a tip at the take out window. If you politely decline, the guy who was the cashier was downright rude about it. The customer in front of me also declined to give a tip as most people do for take out. Customers should not insulted like this.

Yelp
Outstanding. Sit on plasticAdirondack chairs, savor your mocha, feast on a chocolate waffle, watch the powder come down and take in the beauty and energy of this magical mountain. Heaven.

Yelp
A great way to start your day with one of their awesome wake up Javas, sit on their deck chairs or bar stools outside and watch the first wave of skiers get through the lifts. Always friendly and personal service at the window.

Piled my items among another order of food on the counte (Covid violation) 30 min later I'm still sitting with my aunt and wife. With the sandwiches wrappers visible and finishing the purchased water. The owner proceeds to walk out and start barking people out of the chairs that she perceived have been there too long. I politely challenged her and she said "oh you ordered awhile ago" in a mean tone. More people chimed in that had ordered items and she shouts to the entire group "I'm the owner and I'll just take the chairs in". The entire event was strange and she was way out of line and not very business conscious. Sandwich's were average. Not worth $10. Ski tax or family related business I'm guessing. Hope a new business and owner takes the spot and she moves on.

Yelp
On my desk sits an Alta Java mug. Everytime I look at it, I am reminded of that day where the powder was so deep and light you could almost choke on the snow. When rather than miss a run for lunch I bought a muffin and cup of coffee. The coffee is very good the roaster is local. But the location is perfect.

Yelp
Love Alta Java! Great coffee and pastries. The Mexican Hot Chocolate is a favorite!

Yelp
Susie's special is delicious, it's a chai-expresso special drink. It's a bit pricey but worth a try.

Yelp
Pricey but worth it. Their mocha is heavenly. This place is a classic :)

Yelp
Susie's is a awesome stop at the Albion base. Belgian waffles empanadas and coffee drinks? Oh yes!! The Susie's Special Will put a spark in your step!! Hot Chai with a double shot of espresso!! Conveniently located slope side. Great place to hang out! Later in the season Lounge chairs come out and you can watch skiers while sipping a drink! A definite must try!

Yelp
alta java rules. what other place could serve a giant 20oz of fresh brewed coffee for $2. and at a ski area taboot.

Yelp
We went to Alta the other day to ski and saw what looked like a cool coffee shop there. When I went to the window to order, I saw they just had styrofoam cups for their drinks. YUCK! I asked about paper and was told the cups were environmentally ok. WRONG! It was served in a Dart J8J styrofoam cup. They are toxic! I HATE being lied to! See this link for more info on styrofoam. http://www.earthresource.org/campaigns/capp/capp-styrofoam.html
