Hotel Alta Las Palomas (San Jose, Costa Rica) 20 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Let’s face it: if you’re in San José, you’re probably on your way somewhere else. The crowded Costa Rican capital is more a gateway to the jungle and the beach than it is a destination on its own. That reputation is slowly changing, though, thanks in part to the up-and-coming gourmet scene, lively street art, and the opening of a handful of boutique hotels. Hotel Alta Las Palomas is one of these." - Tablet Hotels

This boutique hotel is an experience. Its romantic ambiance is perfectly suited for relaxation, romance, or reflection. It is a photo op enthusiast’s dream—“gram” worthy. I wasn’t expecting the visual feast when I entered the lobby. The pictures you see online in some ways don’t do this lovely gem justice. As the sun travels through the sky, it is only in person that you may appreciate the sun’s warm rays kissing the cozy nooks throughout the property. The hotel is alive, and it breathes in cool, refreshing air with the gusts of wind that flow through its corridors. Its charm is in the details such as how they still use keys (regular metal keys) to open the arch-shaped wooden entries into their guest rooms. The décor carries history—life. While certainly offering modern features such as WiFi, there is something special about the mechanical aspects of daily living that are unappreciated by many modern amenities. The balcony views are lovely and offer guests the opportunity to sip on delicious complimentary house coffee or other beverage of choice and watch the spectacular sunsets. There wasn’t a mini fridge nor a single-cup coffee maker in our room, but the lack of these appliances beckons you step out and enjoy the property, satisfy your pallet with their delicately crafted menu, or venture out and get a taste of the local cuisine. Then there is the spirit of the place made up by Mr. Alex and key members of his team, particularly David (Front Desk) and Jairol (Bar and Restaurant). David and Jairol made us feel like VIP. The spirit of the hotel would not be as rich without these men in it. What would make the hotel better would be a heated jet tub. We would make a stop to this hotel if we were to return to San Jose.

We only had one night here as it’s so convenient for the airport before travelling on. We wished we could have stayed longer as it’s a beautiful hotel full of charm. The staff couldn’t be more welcoming and helpful. The food was excellent too

The view alone on our balcony, Was heavenly. Marlen, Javier, David, Marco, at front desk very hospitable and helpful. Jonathan, restaurant manager, also very accommodating and professional . Sol & Alexandra at the spa were super Amazing!! ❤️ you must have a massage if you book here, you will not regret it. In our opinion, the food was much better inside the hotel. It was a little difficult trying to find a place to eat out of the hotel that we enjoyed.

5 day stay. Staff was excellent and accommodating. They were instrumental in making our stay memorable and relaxing. Front desk staff was resourceful, warm, understanding, and always professional (Marlen, Javier, and David). Restaurant staff was exceptional and friendly (George, Ricky, Antonio, and Jairol). Room staff was welcoming and kind (Cecilia). All staff are patient with English speakers and willing to help you practice your Spanish, so don't be timid to try.

We love this boutique hotel. We have frequently celebrated special occasions here over the years. It has a fantastic ambiance and excellent staff. The restaurant serves outstanding food. Sometimes we come here to eat even if we aren’t staying overnight. Highly recommend. Favorite!

This is the most peaceful hotel housed in a beautiful Spanish revival building. The staff is like a family. The restaurant - La Luz has the best breakfast and Lomito for dinner. Each room has its own terrace with views of the mountains. You may never leave!

This was one of the most beautiful hotels we have ever stayed in and we are quite a well travelled family! I would describe it as simply ‘exquisite.’ Beautiful decor, rooms, restaurant, food and service. We found it exemplary. The only disappointment was that we could only stay one night. If we ever return to San Jose we wouldn’t go anywhere else.
