Alta Las Palomas, an SLH Hotel

My husband and I spent our honeymoon at Alta Las Palomas, and it was nothing short of amazing. We arrived late at night and were warmly welcomed with fresh pineapple juice—such a lovely touch! The room was cozy, and the bed was incredibly comfortable, but what truly made our stay memorable was the exceptional service. A special thank you to Jorge, who served us breakfast and brightened our mornings, and Jairol, who made sure we had the best table with a stunning view for dinner every night. Both were so welcoming and genuinely friendly. Jairol even went out of his way to make me fresh fruit smoothies when I wasn’t in the mood for an alcoholic drink—such thoughtful service! The food was fantastic, and the coffee was some of the best we’ve ever had. The pool area was a perfect place to relax, too. I also want to express my gratitude to Marlene at the front desk, who was kind enough to provide medicine from her own purse when I wasn’t feeling well on the last night of our stay. Additionally, there’s a wonderful animal sanctuary within walking distance of the hotel, offering fantastic guided tours. We can't recommend this place enough—come for the breathtaking views, and stay for the amazing service!

We recently stayed at the Alta hotel for a family reunion. The staff could not have been more accommodating and helpful. George was a real professional every morning for breakfast service and remembered everyone's drink from the day before. The rooms and grounds were clean and welcoming. The morning coffee was honestly the best we have ever had, and that is saying something as my fiancés' family owns a coffee plantation. The hotel is located conveniently is Escazu and if you have kids, you will appreciate the location of a small zoo within walking distance. Many kudos to the management, owner, and staff.

We stayed one night at Alta at the end of our trip before leaving for the airport the next morning. Check in was quick and simple and we were provided a welcome drink. ||The room itself uses old style keys on a wood door. While the door closed and locked, it felt like it could easily be broken down if someone really wanted to get in. Likewise, the safe barrel key was part of the keys we were given. The safe was digitial but there was no power to it. So, if someone did break in or get our key, they would have had access to all our valuables in the safe. The room decor was neat, though strange at times. The door to the toilet could only lock from the outside, meaning you could get locked in the toilet space with no way out. The same is true for the bathroom as a whole as the main double door heading to the bathroom locked from the outside. The room was clean but the bed was a bit firm for us. Our bathroom window also didnt fully shut which allowed bugs to come in. We had 2 shower heads in the shower area which was large enough for 2 people to shower at the same time. One shower head didnt have water coming from some of the nozzles but otherwise pressure and temperature were great. ||The hotel restaurant was very good. All of the food was tasty and the cocktails were delicious. The staff of the hotel were very friendly. One staff member had to open the gate to let our transfer driver come in early in the morning since we had an early flight and did so before we got to the front desk that morning. ||Overall the hotel met our needs for the night, but we would probably look elsewhere for a longer stay. We also would consider this a boutique hotel rather than a small luxury hotel as it had only 24 rooms and felt more like a boutique or bed and breakfast would compared to SLH.

The Alta Las Palomas Hotel is such a unique and beautiful space. There was an incredibly view from room. The staff was really kind and helpful. It was my first time in Costa Rica and they helped with arranging tours and transportation when needed. I had a very special experience for my birthday solo trip and look forward to returning again soon!

Great Hotel! Loved the view. Little difficult with have any left over food as there was no mini fridge to store and the shower handle was a bit funky figuring out the hot and cold water and making sure it's turned completely off. Overall, it was a great place to stay in Costa Rica! Thanks for having us!

I am pleased to share my exceptional experience. The hotel was exquisite, and the dining option offered were remarkable. The staff exceeded my expectations in every regard, demonstrating kindness, patience, and a commendable level of assistance. My trip was thoroughly enjoyable, and I am eagerly anticipating my return.

I stay here whenever I am in San Jose. I highly recommend this for anyone. I proposed here! I spoke to the staff, and during our dinner they prepared a surprise on our balcony. Flowers, dessert, it was very lovely. The food is great, the rooms are big and charming, the staff is very friendly and always willing to help. Great food! Breakfast and dinner.

The rooms are full of termites that also sting while you sleep. Walls are dirty full of dead mosquitos with blood stains. Shower does not work allowing for only boiling water for use. Management has a maintenance crew of one unable to keep up with demands of big hotel. Please stay at grano de oro hotel for same price but better in all aspects. They did not make it right when told pain points during my stay. Please stay away thanks
