Alta Las Palomas, an SLH Hotel

We love this boutique hotel. We have frequently celebrated special occasions here over the years. It has a fantastic ambiance and excellent staff. The restaurant serves outstanding food. Sometimes we come here to eat even if we aren’t staying overnight. Highly recommend. Favorite!

The view alone on our balcony, Was heavenly. Marlen, Javier, David, Marco, at front desk very hospitable and helpful. Jonathan, restaurant manager, also very accommodating and professional . Sol & Alexandra at the spa were super Amazing!! ❤️ you must have a massage if you book here, you will not regret it. In our opinion, the food was much better inside the hotel. It was a little difficult trying to find a place to eat out of the hotel that we enjoyed.

5 day stay. Staff was excellent and accommodating. They were instrumental in making our stay memorable and relaxing. Front desk staff was resourceful, warm, understanding, and always professional (Marlen, Javier, and David). Restaurant staff was exceptional and friendly (George, Ricky, Antonio, and Jairol). Room staff was welcoming and kind (Cecilia). All staff are patient with English speakers and willing to help you practice your Spanish, so don't be timid to try.

This is the most peaceful hotel housed in a beautiful Spanish revival building. The staff is like a family. The restaurant - La Luz has the best breakfast and Lomito for dinner. Each room has its own terrace with views of the mountains. You may never leave!

This was one of the most beautiful hotels we have ever stayed in and we are quite a well travelled family! I would describe it as simply ‘exquisite.’ Beautiful decor, rooms, restaurant, food and service. We found it exemplary. The only disappointment was that we could only stay one night. If we ever return to San Jose we wouldn’t go anywhere else.

I stay here whenever I am in San Jose. I highly recommend this for anyone. I proposed here! I spoke to the staff, and during our dinner they prepared a surprise on our balcony. Flowers, dessert, it was very lovely. The food is great, the rooms are big and charming, the staff is very friendly and always willing to help. Great food! Breakfast and dinner.

My husband and I spent our honeymoon at Alta Las Palomas, and it was nothing short of amazing. We arrived late at night and were warmly welcomed with fresh pineapple juice—such a lovely touch! The room was cozy, and the bed was incredibly comfortable, but what truly made our stay memorable was the exceptional service. A special thank you to Jorge, who served us breakfast and brightened our mornings, and Jairol, who made sure we had the best table with a stunning view for dinner every night. Both were so welcoming and genuinely friendly. Jairol even went out of his way to make me fresh fruit smoothies when I wasn’t in the mood for an alcoholic drink—such thoughtful service! The food was fantastic, and the coffee was some of the best we’ve ever had. The pool area was a perfect place to relax, too. I also want to express my gratitude to Marlene at the front desk, who was kind enough to provide medicine from her own purse when I wasn’t feeling well on the last night of our stay. Additionally, there’s a wonderful animal sanctuary within walking distance of the hotel, offering fantastic guided tours. We can't recommend this place enough—come for the breathtaking views, and stay for the amazing service!

We stayed one night at Alta at the end of our trip before leaving for the airport the next morning. Check in was quick and simple and we were provided a welcome drink. ||The room itself uses old style keys on a wood door. While the door closed and locked, it felt like it could easily be broken down if someone really wanted to get in. Likewise, the safe barrel key was part of the keys we were given. The safe was digitial but there was no power to it. So, if someone did break in or get our key, they would have had access to all our valuables in the safe. The room decor was neat, though strange at times. The door to the toilet could only lock from the outside, meaning you could get locked in the toilet space with no way out. The same is true for the bathroom as a whole as the main double door heading to the bathroom locked from the outside. The room was clean but the bed was a bit firm for us. Our bathroom window also didnt fully shut which allowed bugs to come in. We had 2 shower heads in the shower area which was large enough for 2 people to shower at the same time. One shower head didnt have water coming from some of the nozzles but otherwise pressure and temperature were great. ||The hotel restaurant was very good. All of the food was tasty and the cocktails were delicious. The staff of the hotel were very friendly. One staff member had to open the gate to let our transfer driver come in early in the morning since we had an early flight and did so before we got to the front desk that morning. ||Overall the hotel met our needs for the night, but we would probably look elsewhere for a longer stay. We also would consider this a boutique hotel rather than a small luxury hotel as it had only 24 rooms and felt more like a boutique or bed and breakfast would compared to SLH.
