If you go to Alta during the summer, I’d recommend making a reservation first. We walked by just as it opened for dinner and even though most of the chairs were empty, we were told they were fully booked. We managed to get seats at the quaint bar where they served a full dinner. The delicious meal was served in larger portions than expected. The crab cakes were crispy balls served with cream corn that tasted like chowder—a kind of deconstructed crab chowder, if you will. The radicchio and greens on top of the green pea risotto gave it a nice texture. The herb-encrusted cod was cooked well. Both dishes had a heavy buttery flavor, which made for a rich meal—one I’d prefer to eat leisurely at a table rather than squeezed into a bar, which quickly became very crowded.

What a great restaurant in the heart of Lenox!! Aurelien, a most friendly owner, has created a little slice of happiness for your taste buds as the sauces to his dishes are amazing!! Even his turkey burgers are juicy and tasty! Lisa's specialty drinks, created by Lisa, the bartender, is different and a spicy delight! The desserts are to die for!!!! A friendly and fun venue combined with fantastic foods for everyone's taste!!!

Google
Great food! Mushroom risotto had great consistency and the celery salad on top cut through the richness. The oven roasted chicken was the star of the show, perfectly cooked and flavorful throughout. Service was more than accommodating with the owner checking in on us multiple times to make sure everything was taken care of. Coming back soon!

Great lunch here the other day. Excellent service. Delicious food. Lovely atmosphere. Be sure to reserve to avoid disappointment! Highly recommended.

Just had a great dinner at Alta!! Our server was tremendous and both the Tenderloin and Risotto were prepared perfectly! Check out the awesome wine list as well. Highly recommend!

My husband and I always love our experience at Alta. We just went for our anniversary dinner #18 and the service was top notch, the food is creative and fresh and they even gave us our favorite table 🥰. To top it off the Chef brought out a plate with two lemon macaroons and a little candle.

I was genuinely impressed with the service here. My sister ordered an omelette, and while it took a bit longer to arrive than expected, the response was remarkable. After my husband and I received our meals, my sister was still waiting. When her omelette finally came out, the owner personally came to our table to apologize sincerely for the delay. He explained that the first omelette didn’t come out right, so he remade it because he wanted her to enjoy a proper meal. That level of care and accountability is rare—and it left a lasting impression. The food was good, but the service was truly outstanding. I’ll be recommending this restaurant for that reason alone.

Overall, my family and I were pretty dissatisfied with the food here. In general, the food was bland and the long wait times didn’t help. I got a cup of butternut squash soup (soup of the day) which was completely tasteless and couldn’t even be redeemed by salt & pepper. The cod, duck, and pork cheeks were okay. Cooked well, but the cod was room temp and the pork was also bland. Don’t think I’d recommend this place.

Yelp
July 2025 This is my first ever Yelp review. I love eating great food and drinking excellently paired wine. Alta exceeded my expeditions. I sat at the bar. The food (burrata, striped bass, and bartender recommended merengue) were all amazing. The wine flight was on point and Justin (I think that was his name) picked wines based on my stated preferences. Justin (he had a nice of humor) was incredible: attentive, knowledgeable, and easy going. A trifecta. It's rare that during the dessert I am saying "wow" out loud, but the merengue with berries was just that good. The manager checked in with me several times and this meal was just what I needed after a long hike at the Audubon sanctuary in Lennox. The place was packed and never did I feel rushed. I'll be back and next time with my wife. Patrick p.s. enjoyed talking about recent Boston Symphony Orchestra shows I've been to (Jerry Garcia Experience and Beethoven #3 Eroica and soon Lang Lang with the New World Symphony) with the couple sitting next to me. The kind of night you are thankful to be alive.

Yelp
A wonderful experienced at Alta Restaurant in Lenox, MA over the weekend. Reservations were easy to make via Resy for the desired time with a quant table by the window on a rainy, cool, March night. The food was very good and service attentive. For starters we tried the squash and carrot soup which was very tasty with a drizzle of aioli on top. On such a chilly night, if it were just a little hotter it would have been 5 stars. The Alta salad was also ordered and enjoyed with a very good size even for sharing with plenty of greens, roasted squash, candied walnuts and blue cheese. Main dishes included the roasted chicken statler which we swapped out the garlic mashed for regular mashed potatoes. The chicken was fall off the bone tender with a nice raisin, grape, spinach and Brussel sprout accompaniment. The pan seared salmon was perfectly cooked to order with equal seared and tender, flaky filet. I could have done without the mint creamy sauce as there was already much going on flavor wise with the glazed and pickled beets plus beet purée. We would order both again, but most likely will try another menu items such as the beef tenderloin or butternut squash risotto on a cool, damp night. We didn't really have room for dessert, but ordered the black raspberry with chocolate chips ice cream from a local dairy plus the Chocolate Mi-Cuit which is basically a molten lava cake served with vanilla ice cream from the same local dairy. It was delicious and perfectly cooked and served. It was nice to have a visit from the owner to check on us and service was strong. Well done Alta! We will see you again this summer.

Yelp
The good was great. The waitress was lovely. The kitchen apparently had problems. Waited over an hour for entrees. In addition, a group of people who were leaving stopped to "talk" to people who were seated. They yelled for 10-15 minutes. Asked the hostess to ask them to tone it down. She told me she was busy with other things! A nibble or an offer if a comped dessert would have been nice. I would expect this level of treatment at a dive bar, not at a restaurant that is supposed to be fine dining with prices that reflect that.

Yelp
My husband and I enjoyed a lovely dinner while visiting the scenic town of Lenox with its beautiful Berkshire Botanical Garden, Ventfort Gilded Age Mansion and of course, the famous Tanglewood venue nearby. We were graciously greeted by the host and very good server. For dinner we enjoyed - Mediterranean salad and Foie Gras to start. For entrées, I enjoyed the seared Duck and hubs enjoyed the Fettuccine pasta. Both were accompanied by excellent wine recommendations that complimented the cuisine. To finish for dessert we had the Chocolate Mi-Cuit and ice cream for my birthday celebration. It was a wonderful evening. Thank you!

Yelp
We were seated on time and shown to a nice table. We were immediately offered a choice of waters by a lovely young man. Tyler our waiter introduced himself and told us the specials. We settled on the Foie Gras which was outstanding. My husband chose the Duck Breast and I had the Pan Seared Beef Tenderloin. Presentation was perfect and the taste outstanding. The vibe and atmosphere were pleasant. Overall it was a phenomenal dining experience. Don't miss this gem of you are in Lenox

Yelp
You can't go wrong with anything on the menu here! We each started with a wine flight of 3, pre-selected by the staff. All of the wines were incredible and a generous serving for $18. The fresh bread and butter just melts in your mouth. We shared a mushroom appetizer that was so tasty, we ended up using the mushroom sauce on our bread, omg! I enjoyed the special - a steelhead trout over potatoes and asparagus with an amazing chive sauce. We were celebrating our anniversary and the server brought out two pistachio macaroons, nice touch and so thoughtful. Alta knows hospitality! During our meal, the owner stopped by to check in on our experience and even provided some tips for preparing fish at home. 100/10!

Yelp
Wonderful atmosphere for a casual evening in Lenox. Service was polite and attentive and made us feel welcome. Unfortunately we made the "mistake" of eating a late lunch so the more substantive options escaped us this time. That didn't prevent us from trying some delicious wine with appetizers that were on point.
google avatar

Jeff O.

Yelp
Perhaps the best restaurant at which I've ever eaten. Make a reservation and they set you right on time. Superb food, with the duck breast being out of this world. The salted caramel sauce on it is to die for. Crisp green beans and smooth mashed potatoes. Prompt polite service with dishes served as the previous course was finished. Except wine selection.
google avatar

Kate B.

Yelp
Way overrated. "Shrimp" taco contained no visible shrimp. The main spaghetti dish tasted like something we might have thrown together in college with what we had at hand. The only saving grace was that the owner/manager? Was super apologetic and took both dishes off the bill

Yelp
Upon entering my wife and I were graciously greeted by the host. He was kind and genuinely happy to serve us. We were shown to our table and met by Carolyn our server. She was wonderful and attentive from start to finish. She offered suggestions, specials, and helped pair our wines. I ordered the duck and my wife the tenderloin, both were cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. They were delicious and hot. We had a wonderful dinner and dessert was fantastic too. The Paris-Brest and Chocolate Mi-Cuit were delicious and finished the meal off nicely. The ambience was comforting and inviting and not to over the top, just perfect. We really enjoyed our meal and dinning experience and highly recommend Alta!

Yelp
We were on a rush , starving and the waitress and staff got us our food in 15 minutes even though the place was packed. Salads were super.

Brian G.

Yelp
Great food, attentive service, nice atmosphere- highly recommend! My sons are sensitive to gluten, the waiter was knowledgeable and assured they had safe enjoyable meal.

Yelp
I stumbled upon Alta while walking around Lenox looking for a drink and dinner spot before catching a play nearby. We sat at the bar as the host didn't want to seat us outside unless we were definitely ordering food. We lucked out at the bar as the patrons were friendly and the bartender Lisa provided awesome service. There were six beers on draft. Mix of macros and craft. I choose the rotating IPA which was a local brewed New England style IPA. Super hazy and juicy. They had some wines and a full bar including some whiskey options. The bartender was quick and incredibly accommodating. We greatly appreciated her service. We ended up sharing a few items. First, we had the babaghanoush and a side of fries. Babaghanoush was more like a hummus. Pretty garlic forward which I liked. It came with some eggplant chips and crostini. My favorite part was dipping the complimentary hot bread in the spread. Fries were a mix of hand cut Idaho potato and sweet potato. For the main course, we shared the braised pork cheeks. They kindly split the serving into two for us to make it easier to share. The pork cheeks were served over mashed potatoes with spinach and mushrooms. Everything was covered in a rich jous style gravy. Atmosphere was flexible. Some folks dressed nicely. Other folks were casual. Nobody seemed judgmental to me. There were two single occupancy restrooms. Both were handicap accessible. The one I used was spacious and had a baby changing table.

Yelp
We had dinner at Alta yesterday. We were welcomed like friends, the staff were attentive and friendly, and the food was excellent. I recommend the duck breast, particularly.

Pamela S.

Yelp
Rude and unfriendly host. We stopped by for a glass of wine and even though there were several tables open they insisted that there wasn't room due to upcoming reservations. We said we'd be out within 30 min when their next reservation would arrive. But he insisted in a very condescending and brusque tone that they just couldn't accommodate. We later learned from other hotel guests that they were allowed to sit and get dinner without a reservation 10 min after we left.

Susan G.

Yelp
So disappointed. Charging near $40 per entree; expected good food. Have been there in the past; not bad. This time, cod fish overpowered by sweet potato mush. Not good. My companion had a teaser salad, wasn't a Caesar salad. Yikes. Other so much better restaurants in Lenox. All trying to make up for the pandemic. Oh well overpriced. We'll not be going back anytime soon. Or ever.

Alex D.

Yelp
I feel bad. I wanted to give it another try hoping that I just had a bad meal the last time. So many people love it, but truth, our party of 4 was greatly underwhelmed with all of our meals.
google avatar

Emma M.

Yelp
I came here with my mom and my grandma to meet with my aunt and my cousin for dinner. My cousin and I split the Caesar salad and for my entree, I had one of the meat dishes. Even though some of the appetizers had gluten in them, I was in the process of trying gluten out to see how it would affect me. The food was delicious, the restaurant was spacious, there was beautiful art in the restaurant and the bathrooms were clean. Our drinks were pretty good too, and our server was really kind. One thing that I would have changed about the experience was that one of the people sitting at the table next to us was kind of rude, and I didn't really appreciate how the restaurant didn't do anything about how she was speaking to staff and other patrons. that didn't tarnish the experience and we all still had a great time though. Overall, I was really happy with my time at Alta and I recommend it to anyone who is interested.

Yelp
Beautiful place to enjoy dinner and drinks. Loved the salmon with pomegranate glaze and roasted veggies. Oysters are also $2 on Thursday!

Roberta C.

Yelp
Delicious and great service. Watermelon-blueberry gazpacho-- Not something I would have predicted woudl be that good!
google avatar

Yelp
This cute little wine bar has a lot of charm! Brooke at the bar is absolutely fantastic. She is attentive and makes delicious drinks. I had the Empresa Me and it was so good! After two, I was definitely tipsy which I welcomed! I had the special, a lamb dish that was shredded with a beet purée and a savory sauce. It was different than what I usually have but good. I did see others order things from The regular menu tho that looked amazing! For dessert, I had their crème brûlée turned flan. It was the perfect texture. This place was fantastic. I'd come again if I could!
google avatar

Yelp
The food was solid and the wine pairings delicious. Excellent service and the owner is super nice! Would definitely come back.

Yelp
Went to Alta during my visit to The Berkshires. I will say they have a different lunch vs dinner menu. We went for lunch. We ordered a salad and cheeseburger. The quinoa chicken salad was filling and greatly portioned. The cheeseburger was good and the fries were crispy. Restaurant was relatively dark inside with low ceilings.
google avatar

Danielle D.

Yelp
Loved everything about this restaurant. Excellent staff, tons of celiac safe options. The fryer had no gluten items so the fries were safe. Excellent margarita. The best perfectly cooked burger. I went for lunch and dinner because I was so pleased. Highly recommend a reservation. They were fully booked.
google avatar

Carolyn N.

Yelp
A totally delicious meal in a lovely setting. I especially appreciate the vegetarian options.
google avatar

Grace T.

Yelp
Great service, very sweet staff, but unfortunately the wine and bread were the only winners. A friend and I split the mushroom cannelloni, the cod, and a side of green beans and it just wasn't warm or flavorful. Was too expensive for the quality delivered

Yelp
Alta is by far the best restaurant in Lenox. During my time in the Berkshires, I went to Alta a total of 6 times. The food was amazing, the ambiance was great, and all of the staff were super nice every time. My favorite dish was the pan roasted beef tenderloin. It was cooked to perfection every time and paired great with the garnishes. The demi glace, spinach, and sarladaise potatoes were all delicious and complimented the steak. The plating also looked great. I ended up getting the steak 3 times. The roasted chicken statler, the seared duck breast, and the Alta burger were also all prepared to the same excellence as the steak. The burrata was my favorite starter. The burrata itself was super fresh and the salad had the perfect balance of sour and sweet with the tomatoes and peaches. The foie gras was also good - very fatty. The side fries were also really tasty and were a pretty big portion. My favorite dessert was the mi-cuit but the creme renversee and tart were also good. The mocktails were decent but were $7. Overall, my only complaint is that they did not take Apple Pay!

Joanna C.

Yelp
It's good but not consistent. My parsnip app was amazing. The salmon was too citrusy. My husband monkfish was tinyyyyy. His drink "Lisa Favorite" Was just ok. We came here last September because of the review and it was inconsistent. However the service is great. I would give that a 5 star review. Honestly, the Firefly Gastropub was way better with food quality and drinks. IMO

Haley M.

Yelp
Great food! Amazing service! We skipped a reservation thinking Lenox was a small enough town but next time I would make a reservation. The staff wanted to ensure we would have enough time to enjoy our meal and a reservation would have solved that.
google avatar

Mikali N.

Yelp
Delightful dining experience in every aspect from owner, staff, ambiance and food. You will definitely not be disappointed in choosing this restaurant for your next night out.
google avatar

Yelp
Fabulous restaurant from start to finish! Service was excellent and attentive. I love when a restaurant leaves a bottle of water on the table! Food was delicious and presented well. Very interesting menu with lots of tasty and different options. We had 3 excellent vegetarian dishes, each one different and amazing! Interior is attractive , lots of wood. Has a bar you can sit at and another separate room in the back for either overflow or to have a private party. I would definitely return.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I reserved New Year's Eve at 9pm, but due to a mild illness we called to ask for an earlier reservation. There were no available reservations, but a few hours later they called us back with an earlier time. We appreciated that they cared enough to follow up with us. The wine selection, ambiance, service and food were all excellent. We had a minor blip with our appetizers coming out too soon, but the owner took care of it immediately and checked-in with us several times to make sure we were satisfied. The service was efficient, friendly and accommodating of minor substitutions. All-in-all a great way to celebrate 2024!

Yelp
Our group of 7ppl came in for a late dinner on a busy Friday night. The place was packed, thank goodness we had a reservation! Pretty good locally sourced farm-to-table food. Our server was nice and patient with us. I had the Pan Seared Salmon, asked for medium rare and cooked just right and flavorful. Hubby ordered Pan Seared Natural Duck Breast, it was tendered and delicious. Our friends also said their food was very decent as well.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was good The service was good. I like their pasta It had a good atmosphere It wasn't too crowded There was some kids in there

Yelp
A high energy popular restaurant and bar in downtown Lenox MA. You will definitely need a reservation! We had a Mediterranean salad with shrimp and an Alta salad also with shrimp. Both were very good and the Alta salad had some nice touches such as a sectioned grilled peach and crumbled blue cheese. The shrimp were 4 in number and good not great. Dessert and cappuccinos were a great topper. Service and ambiance very nice.

Yelp
Did you ever have a meal that was so good you just hated for it to end? Like you just kept it in your mouth and savored each flavor in each bite. That's how good our dinner was tonight. Really one of the top restaurants we have been to. It would be well worth the drive for anyone who lives in Albany. We stayed for 2 nights after the BSO concert on Sunday but a very manageable drive from the Capital District. We ate here one other time years ago. I had the seared duck breast with caramel sauce. To die for. The sauce was incredible. My husband had the tenderloin. Equally amazing. We started with a cantaloupe, cucumber, tomato gazpacho topped with goat cheese. Beyond description. We ended with a vanilla bean cream tart. Really great drinks, as well. My husband loved his Pinot Noir and my drink was delicious and fun. I forget the name but it had limoncello, blueberry, and Prosecco. Our server was delightful. Great sense of humor and just the right amount of timing. He didn't hover but was there at all the appropriate times. He was a real professional. I wish I had caught his name. Hearing problems lately ( It was one of the jokes we exchanged but very real). Fabulous!

R M.

Yelp
Restaurant staff is extremely racist! They had us seated at the bar, and then returned refusing us service and asking us to leave before we even got a chance to look at the menu. We were the only black patrons at the restaurant! Shame on this establishment. I wish I could give zero stars.

Stuart K.

Yelp
We were starved and tired and the folks at this restaurant took care of us even though we didn't have a reservation. From the host to the servers everybody was friendly and informative. Great wine selections and the food was delicious.

Tracy K.

Yelp
Everything about this restaurant has been fabulous every time I've gone. Food is great, service is great, location is lovely. It's worth having to premeditate your meal well in advance in order to get a reservation!

Deena G.

Yelp
Everything was superb, service, food, the atmosphere. Perfect in every way. Highly recommend Alta in Lenox Ma

E J.

Yelp
As a vegetarian I was more than impressed by the plant based options both appetizers and main. All the food had deep complex flavors which were delicious. The hummus plate and roasted parsnips appetizers were incredible. I had the lentil tofu main and really enjoyed it, full of different textures and very satisfying. It's hard to find a restraunt that truly embraces plant based while also keeping meat eaters happy. My partner had the beef tenderloin and was equally impressed. Restraunt had a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. It is small so if you prefer a table over the bar a reservation would be recommended. Bar service for us was a pleasant experience with very attentive service.

Avra W.

Yelp
The food at a recent dinner was excellent. Wonderful service. Owner very accommodating about a special request.

A E.

Yelp
great food service, great presentation. tricky dish, sautéed flounder, perfect. expensive but 1st class
google avatar

Erin D.

Yelp
I cannot say enough good things about this establishment. The food was top notch (I highly recommend the Mediterranean salad and Lisa's favorite cocktail). The service was even better. My mom has a service dog for hearing and sometimes she is not well received at restaurants, but this was the opposite- she was treated like a princess. I highly recommend it, we will definitely come back.

Yasmin R.

Yelp
Excellent food, loved the macadamia nuts in my quinoa salad. Good service and fair prices for farm to table food.

Steve G.

Yelp
Very good cozy place in Lenox. Good service, warm greeting, and excellent innovative food. We started by sharing the mussels, with a very intersting and different sauce, delicious. I had the Marinated Tofu with added salmon, and my wife had the Pan Roasted Cod - both were excellent. Not a bargain meal (don't know where the two $ came from), but absolutely worth it. Recommended

Yelp
Pricey it is, but I would come back here over and over. We recently took a 4,000+ mile road trip, visiting every state on the eastern seaboard and ended up here for dinner, visiting friends in the area. This was definitely the best restaurant of our 4,000 mile trip and one of the best, most enjoyable meals we have had in the past 5 years. From the breads served to appetizers (Calamari), to entrees, we loved this place. Especially how they pair their wines with their entrees on the menu and the selections of wines are awesome. The quality of food and level of service are unmatched. Why isn't every restaurant in the world like this place? We were here in the summer with the windows and doors opened, but I can imagine how this place is in the dead cold of winter-- charming and warm. I'm still thinking about this place and when I can come back.

Yelp
Exceeded all expectations. Dined with Alta for New Years Eve as part of a last minute getaway. The food is amazing by itself, but the service really seals the deal. The owner goes above and beyond to ensure every diner has the best experience possible. We had no issues whatsoever with our meals, but the owner recognized a few areas where the meal may have missed expectations and went out of his way to make sure we were well taken care of - something that could easily have been overlooked on a busy holiday night. This alone would keep me coming back, but the food also stands out on its own! I cannot recommend the pork cheeks enough, and all of the specials we tried were phenomenal. The tart of the day is also a must have, whether you have room or not. Definitely recommend a stop in to Alta.

Yelp
We couldn't have had a better night at Alta. The ambiance, food and service were outstanding... and with Lisa behind the bar, you are sure to have a great time.
