"Known by almost everyone as the P Dog, the Alta Peruvian Bar is one of the busiest and most festive apres-ski games in town. It's also one particularly favored by Alta and Snowbird locals, so you know it's legitimate. Located on the second floor of Alta Peruvian Lodge, the P Dog is the ideal place to go hear live music or share the day's ski stories (and shotskis!) over popcorn and free appetizers (while they last)." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Having stayed at the hotel for years, I can say that the quality of the food served has gone downhill over the past 5 years. The lodge still has its old world character however there has been little investment in the property. The location is great and the staff is very friendly and helpful.

I recently had the chance to second shoot a wedding at the Alta Peruvian Lodge, and it was stunning. The mountain views and cozy lodge atmosphere created an unforgettable setting. The natural beauty of the surroundings made every shot feel timeless, with perfect light and breathtaking backdrops all day long. The staff was welcoming and organized, making the day seamless for both the couple and vendors. It’s a truly special venue, and I’d love to photograph there again! What a gem this place was! Fantastic old school ski lodge. Perfect location and fabulous staff—so patient and helpful. Will now be in my rotation when I get to Alta/Snowbird.

I have stayed at the Peruvian half a dozen times. It is a long walk or short van ride from the lifts. It is the only place at Alta with a pool and jacuzzi. The room rate includes 3 meals per day and the food is good. The rooms are small and basic. We had two and one was unbearably hot. We couldn't sleep with the window open due to noise and smell from a vent outside the window. The other room was much better. The 15% resort fee is not inlcuded in the advertised room rate. The public rooms--the large lobby and sitting area and the dining area are very nice. The Peruvian is living off the loyalty of return customers.

This is a no frills but charming lodge that oozes with personality. You are on the other side of a small parking lot from the lift. You can ski back to the lodge from runs off of Wildcat. You'll meet very interesting people during the communal meals. The food is solid. Not gourmet, but very good. If you're looking for rustic, old-school euro vibe and the best skiing in America, this is your place. Leave the apres-ski Mink Coat at home or for your next visit to Vail.

We love the Alta Peruvian! It is a comfortable, friendly, non-pretentious lodge at the base of the mountain. In addition to the great location, the food was amazing and we were able to unplug and mingle with other guests. Love the outdoor pool and hot tubs!

The freindlyness of the guests and staff makes this place very inviting. There’s games, puzzles, meals all designed to help people interact with each other and create a family atmosphere. Most of the guests were regular visitors who have been coming back year after year for the great skiing and great hospitality

This place is awesome. It books u fast with year after year clients. You can ski to it, but you have a 3 minute shuttle in the morning. Beautiful setting, the food is perfect, they serve breakfast lunch and dinner.

Yelp
This is the third time I have been to the lodge. It's an old lodge and lacks modern amenities. My room today is just a bed with a moth stand and lamp , a sink, a chest of drawers and bathroom with a toilet and shower. . That's it. There are two windows facing the mountain. Beautiful view. The lobby is cozy and comfortable. The dinning room is downstairs. The food is a great variety and delicious. We had shrimp, prime rib, baked chicken, corn chowder, salads, Augustine potatoes, tiramisu, etc. it's our first night so more pics later!

Yelp
This biggest "pro" to this place is that it is about a 7 minute walk from the bottom of Collins lift. That's a pretty big pro-- but ultimately we found it offset by some "cons" which will likely keep us from choosing the Peruvian again in the future. Especially at $550/night. In addition to the proximity to the mountain, they also have an onsite ski shop. We did enjoy the big lobby and lower level room it's well set up with spots to hang out, play games, read a book, or get some work done. You can drop your bags & ski until your room is ready or after check-out and they nicely accommodated a 1 pm check out for us, which I greatly appreciated. Your food is included in your room charge. The breakfast & lunch is served buffet style and set out on sterno burners at the start of service and not refreshed before the end of service. While I made the best of it the three days we stayed, the breakfast & lunch were not enjoyable. Dinner, on the other hand, was surprisingly good. They had a different vegetarian option each evening and several non-veg entrees +soup, a few salads, and several desserts. The drinks were also very reasonable. I would love to see an afternoon snack service of some type (even just more cookies) offered between lunch & dinner. But there is a small store that does carry some sundry snacks if you get peckish. Being avid skiers who've stayed our fare share of ski lodging, we were prepared for the very small, not updated, old-timey-"charm" that is the Peruvian and we are not fussy about that sort of thing. That said, they missed the mark on some of the basic expectations around cleanliness, leading to my 3 star review. Most acutely, the bathroom in our unit was not cleaned between guests & although they sent someone in to clean after we complained, the bathroom remained sub-par on the cleanliness scale. On a seemingly more chronic level dishes & silverware in the dining room were frequently dirty and the hot tubs were also not particularly clean. Oh, and the bed was one of the least comfortable beds I've ever slept in. We come to the SLC area annually and have stayed slope-side, hotel in SLC, with friends, AIRBNB, etc. We were excited to stay slope-side at Alta but will revert back to staying elsewhere and driving the 30 minutes from town if we want to ski at Alta, oh well.

Yelp
Perfect version of what it is. Great place for a drink and music after ski Free snacks too. Hey there early or wait in line Tell them zack allen Sent you

Yelp
If you are a serious hard-core skier this is the place for you. They have everything you need here. Expert repair shop on site, you can buy your lift tickets at the gift shop, bar (really cool bar actually), they feed you 3 good meals everyday (ref. keep reading), hot tub / heated pool, movie night, ski in/ski out... Breakfast and lunch are buffet style; for breakfast they have just about everything you would want, omelets made to order, flapjacks, swine, fruit, oatmeal... The coffee could be better... **Useful tip**, when you go to breakfast you make your dinner reservation / seating time...you can actually call down to the dining room starting at 7:15 am if you want to try and secure a desired time. That said, the "choice" seating times are gone by 7:30 am... Plan your wake up accordingly... For lunch each day there was a hot entrée (one day they had spaghetti and meatballs, another was some sort of chicken alfredo) they also have sandwiches and excellent fresh baked cookies. The hardest part is getting back into your ski boots to head out again! Dinner is the best meal of the day; you have a choice of soups and salad and (I think) 6 different entrees. I had the petite filet and ahi tuna respectively, which were both very good. Room accommodations: The rooms are...shall I say, TINY. I think the website advertises twin beds but they are more the size of cots... you pretty much have to be in the position you want to sleep in, fall asleep and hope you make it through the night without waking up.... There is not enough room to roll over and the beds seemed old / not terribly comfortable. That may be my only other slightly negative comment. Everything else positive makes up for it though, I don't really think about the room / sleeping part of the trip... The Staff really does a top-notch job at taking care of all the guests, you meet some really interesting people and make good "lodge" friendships, it's a very rustic environment, and the APL has an awesome personality. It feels like a special place, and the setting is extremely beautiful. I am eager to go back!!!

Yelp
One thing I truly admire about the lodging at Alta, is how unique it remains, despite the influx of buyouts that have happened in neighboring Park City. It makes me increasingly grateful for places like the Peruvian Lodge that value character, and if you're someone who enjoys that experience, say over the more glamorous but homogeneous feeling of PC, Alta in general is a solid pick. It's very small and intimate, it has an interesting history, and it feels very communal. If you're someone who prefers large accommodations and privacy, I'd probably venture elsewhere. This is probably the make or break reason as to why or why not you should stay here. The slopes are profoundly accessible. The hot tub and pool is nicely sized considering the relatively small area of the hotel. There are probably some things that could use some work, the food in particular. But in terms of character, atmosphere, and overall affordability, it is certainly a cut above, in my book.

Yelp
The Alta Peruvian has a distinct character. (This was our first visit back to the Peruvian in several years. We last stayed at the Rustler). It is a place for meeting and talking to a lot of people. Everyone shares tables at breakfast and dinner and always talks. Go to the bar and folks come up and start chatting. You meet a lot of interesting people and that makes it fun. The bad side is the maintenance, service and food. On the maintenance side, the hot tub blowers weren't working. Our room was renovated and the bathroom was new, but they clean it so infrequently that there was mold growing on the corners in the walk in shower. The food was terrible. Our fist night was buffet night. They ran out of prime rib and green beans (it was the last time we saw a green vegetable until night 4). The second night we sat at 6.30 and they had no rolls. One night they had run out of salad. One night we had a 6.30 table, and it took until 8.30 for our main course to be served. Dinners regularly took 2+ hours. The food is basically terrible. All the meat (other than the steak, which they cook to order) is overcooked and covered with a sauce. The approach to is how cheaply can we provide food - minimize fresh vegetable and put sauce on everything. You need to book your dinner time each night in the morning by 7.30. I understand this, and they do this at the Rustler too, but at the Peruvian the kitchen / dinning room throughput is so low that guests start lining up at 7 to 7:15 to book their table for that night. Breakfast is like Hampton Inn, fine by low end. The fruit is mostly cut up melon. When they bring a fresh bowl out, there are berries on top and guests make a bee line for the berries. At least I could buy bananas at lunch on the mountain. A lot of folks stay regularly at the Peruvian and they told us the food was a lot better a couple of years ago. Bottom line, its got a lot of camaraderie, but the food is horrible. We won't come back

Yelp
Perfection. This place is heaven on earth. Perfect powder, even better hot tub. You want to be treated like a king? Come to the Peruvian.

Yelp
I was conceived here. Thanks, Mom and Dad, for *that* TMI. I've stayed at the Peruvian a number of times over the years and not just as an embryo. The access to Alta is great and Peruvian is one of the few affordable places to stay close by. It's definitely rustic, but they've thrown some money at it in recent years so the funk of 80s rear entry Raichles is (mostly) gone. It's never going to be a Four Seasons experience, but that's kind of the point. The beds are comfy, the staff is nice, it's clean - presumably you're pooped from skiing so how much more can you ask for? All meals are included. Whether you want to partake in them is up to you, but unless you descend out of Little Cottonwood Canyon it's slim pickins in Alta proper. It's generally easiest to fill up at breakfast then skip lunch or stop mid mountain if you're peckish. Because, let's be honest, who really eats three meal per day? I wish there was a way to make meals more of a punch card system. Like you're allotted x amount of meals over your stay and you can add on if need be. Plus, If you're slaying pow, the last thing you want it to do is stop and trudge back to the hotel in your ski boots. Yes, Alta is STILL skier only. Praise be to Warren Miller*. Strange Utah liquor laws apply, as always. Getting a Bloody with your meal before noon probably isn't going to happen unless you sneakily BYO. I won't tell, don't worry. *j/k snowboarders are people too. Mostly.

Yelp
Fantastic experience. Simple rooms, 3 excellent meals included and outstanding staff. I'll visit again.

Yelp
You will either love or hate the alta peruvian. The best way to think of it is a college dorm, if you like a large communal space with lots of social interaction then this could be it - on the other hand if you want a more luxurious skiing lodging experience this might not be the place for you. Where else can you stay where the bartender gets up on to the bar and starts dancing - fishnet stockings and all, or after skiing your entire floor smells like refer madness...you get the picture. A fun place, a diverse group of folks (not all kids, even some older folks) a great location, a great place to stay for some but not all 3 trip. Ski lockers updated.. some rooms have been updated as well. Still rough around the edges but looks a little cleaner

Yelp
I'm just going to focus on the bar at the Alta Peruvian but may swerve off here and there. After hitting the beautiful Alta slopes, there's not much better than moseying up to a lodge style bar and have a few drinks to warm your cockles. I think it was called the P-Lounge or maybe the P-Dog. The staff and the folks there were great and everyone has a story about where they're from, how skiing went that day, some off the wall anecdote, or their latest hitchhiking story. Several locally brewed beer. An organic one, Wild, was the one I enjoyed the most along with some well priced scotches. Again, the cockles were chilly. If you do sit at the bar, you MUST order some bottled beers just so you can slide it down to the little cutout in the bar and send it crashing into a can with its other empty compatriots. Waitresses clean tables and slide them down 4, 5, 6 at a time. They also bring out some happy hour free food. Mozzarella sticks this time. But slow-on-draw-Rich missed out. And don't get nervous as you walk through the lodge seeing many many people milling about in halfway tied robes. I thought I had entered a Roman Bath house but it's just folks moving about from the heated pool to their rooms.

Yelp
This used to be an awesome place for an affordable post-ski beer. But, beware, things have changed. Prices have gone through the roof. Plus, the bartender pours 3/4 full pitchers and pints. So much for laid back Little Cottonwood. Also, ask your female friend to order for you. The prices are a few dollars cheaper.

Peter M.

Yelp
First time staying at the Peruvian and I would recommend it to anybody considering skiing at Alta. 6 reasons: 1. All meals included. 2. Bar is 10 feet from the hot tub. 3. Super nice staff 4. Upstairs bar is 15 feet from room 5. Pool is heated 6. NO SNOWBOARDERS!!!!

Naomi O.

Yelp
I am writing this review specifically about the ski shop at the Peruvian, which is awesome. Andy and his team really know their equipment, give great advice, and do perfect, overnight repairs and tuning at very reasonable prices. We have been staying at the Peruvian for 17 seasons and at this point we don't trust our equipment to anyone else!

Donna U.

Yelp
I just returned from a ski trip to Alta. My husband and I and about five other couples with children stayed at the Alta Peruvian Lodge. This was my fifth stay at the lodge and this time we swore we would not return. The Alta Peruvian is not inexpensive, you can expect to spend about $250.00 per person/ per night if you want a room with a bathroom. One of my main issues with the Alta Peruvian is the horrid food they serve. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included but do not be tricked by their website that states that they have "masterfully prepared entrees". Breakfast is a buffet and includes overcooked scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, pancakes, fruit and oatmeal. They also boast about making maid to order omelets but the omelet ends up being scrambled eggs since the staff is not skilled at making omelets. Lunch is also a buffet and is served from 12:00pm-1:30pm. The lunch selection seems to usually be an entree that is usually some form of frozen food (chicken curry or almond chicken) that has been reheated, soap, sandwiches (mostly bread with a wimpy slice of ham or cheese) and cookies. Typically if you do not get there by 1:00pm they are out of food and you are out of luck. They make it very clear that they will not make you a sandwich! Dinner is a selection of really bad entrees that are less then average. Even basic macaroni and cheese is nothing short of a starchy bland glob. They also offer a special for dinner for an additional charge. The one evening we were offered elk at an additional $16.00 charge and the following evening there was not a special since it was the Saturday "Grand Buffet" (think Hometown Buffet). We also have had several issues with room charges and billing. This time we were charged for two rooms one night and a pair of $125.00 sunglasses. These charges were corrected after 30 minutes of working with the check-out clerk (I would have preferred to be skiing). So overall we will continue to ski the incredible Alta slopes but we will find different accommodations.

Alexander V.

Yelp
Love the lodge, but the food is terrible. This is an all inclusive deal, all meals and lodging... Lodge is absolutely great ... But why do such a terrible job with the food???! I would not come back here just for that reason. I would come back if they could just order some lousy pizza for us as that would be better!

Jess K.

Yelp
See the other listing with the same name for more info. Bottom line: Great little ski get-away hotel

Andrew S.

Yelp
The Peruvian has a unique environment. If you like your private space and don't want to mingle with others, this is not the place for you. But if you enjoy good food, an incredibly welcoming vibe, a genuine sense of community among the guest and the best bar scene in the canyon, this is where you want to be.

Brad S.

Yelp
This place is great. After I was threatened without cause in front of my son in the wee hours of the morning by Canyon Patrol, this place helped make it all better. We have never stayed here but the after being told to go inside by the Canyon "I forgot how to communicate" Patrol personnel the customer service this place provided really helped out a lot. I don't remember her name, Judy or Jody or something - the nice woman with the accent, really knows how to treat people. She let us stay by the warm fire and even offered coffee or hot chocolate to us, even though we weren't a paying guest. Thank you for providing such great customer service, thank you for just being a nice person. My son and I really appreciated it. If this is how they treat non-customers then I'm sure this is an even better place when you stay here.
