Altamont Lodge Lake Wanaka

Altamont Lodge was genuinely one of the best places I stayed on my entire trip. The shared spaces are fantastic — open, cosy and social without ever feeling crowded. The kitchen is huge and unbelievably well-equipped, with every utensil you could ever need, plus instant coffee and hot water always ready in the boiler (which, as a caffeine addict, I deeply appreciated 😄). The rooms were thoughtfully spaced out, and the 10pm quiet time was actually respected by everyone, which meant I had some of the best sleeps of my trip — something that’s surprisingly rare in shared accommodation. But what really makes this place special is the staff. Every single person I met was warm, friendly and genuinely happy to stop for a chat. They made the lodge feel less like a hostel and more like a little community. I was also blown away by their kindness. I accidentally left behind something very important and hadn’t even left my phone number — yet they went out of their way to track me down using a number I’d called from earlier in the week just to make sure it got back to me. That level of care and effort says everything about the people who run this place. Thank you so much for being such a wonderful part of my Wanaka trip. I couldn’t recommend Altamont Lodge more highly — I’ll absolutely be back. 🌻

Our small family truly loved this place. The room was cozy and clean, and the bathrooms were spotless. We appreciated the privacy, and the shared kitchen was exceptionally clean, well-equipped, and complete. Cooking there was a real pleasure, as it was never crowded. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wished we could have stayed longer. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the property is just a short drive from the beautiful Lake Wanaka.

It was a perfect overnight stay. The lodge is cozy and gives cabin/camp vibes. The shared facilities are still pretty private. The shared living room area is great for group activites or even solo reading time. The location was also prime.

Altamont Lodge was a great experience for us. The location is great on a tree lined street about a 10 minute walk to the lake. Away from the noise. The rooms, washrooms and kitchen were very clean. The kitchen was very well stocked. Jeff and Lynn were very helpful whenever we contacted them. Great value for the money

Altamont Lodge was an ideal stay. Clean, warm, and very welcoming, it was a perfect stop off on our NZ adventure. The facilities were next level with an immaculate fully appointed kitchen, spacious bathroom, abd onsite laundry. Could not recommend more highly.

I've stayed at Altamont Lodge several times in the past few years and invariably had a good experience. As before, once again the hosts were very courteous and helpful, and the facilities first-class. This hotel is oriented toward families or other groups traveling together. Your room has bunk and single beds, bathroom down the hall, and a large shared kitchen and lounge.

A brilliant stay from start to finish. The lodge is beautifully maintained, with excellent facilities and a fantastic location that makes exploring Wanaka effortless. Everything felt well cared for and thoughtfully done. Truly Wanaka’s best-kept lodge secret @ND $150 a night - highly recommended.

One of the best places we have stayed at on our 3 weeks in New Zealand. Very clean and everything you need. A very nice lady in office. Thank you will definitely stay again.
