Altarocca Wine Resort

I have to admit that when I first learned our Rick Steves tour group was staying outside of Orvieto I was a little disappointed. I like to stay in the center of the city - where all the action is. However after two nights in this “wine” resort I was so happy for the chance to rest and recharge at this beautiful property and to have a break from the crowds and noise of city center. Our room was large, clean and steps away from large outdoor pool. The included breakfast (always served on the terrace overlooking the vineyards and valley) was excellent and the adjacent restaurant served up two wonderful dinners both nights we stayed. The grounds are beautiful and the historic medieval hilltop town of Orvieto is about a 20 minute drive away and the Duomo is truly magnificent. If you’re looking for some rest and relaxation at a first class resort this is your place.

We wound up staying here one night prior to an 8 day stay at a private villa in Montepulciano. We wish we could have stayed more here. The entire resort is gorgeous, the staff very nice and helpful. The food in the restaurant and the breakfast area were superb. My only complaint was that the bed and pillows were too soft for my liking. We will certainly stay here again if we are ever in the Orvieto area again.

The location in the hills was very picturesque but the romantic room type is hot, air conditioning does not cool it down efficiently. Staff was supportive to provide the one fan that they had on location but this was not enough to change the temperature. The pool is not heated, but worse is a cold hot tub. The staff at the restaurant were good, with the exception of the wine steward, who ignored us two dinners in a row. In addition the reservation I requested with table selection turned out to be a concern for him, even though the restaurant was empty when we arrived. We were not aware that particular tables were reserved since there was No signage about this.

We couldn't have picked a better place for a relaxing holiday, far from the madding crowds of Rome and Florence in the summer! We absolutely loved everything about our stay, especially the staff in the restaurant, who made every dining experience excellent. We didn't have to go to eat anywhere else as the food was incredible, and the view from the terrace was fabulous.

The whole place is magical; we really enjoyed the tranquility that it radiates. The beautiful view and the helpfulness of the staff made it even more special. I would especially like to highlight the waiters in the restaurant, who created a fantastic atmosphere and turned dinner into a truly magical experience

Beautiful setting, view, gardens Nice modern rooms Good morning buffet But the service from the front desk was very disappointing. We felt like we were bothering them. They quickly gave us our keys without proposing any of the services or options we could add to our stay. Nobody offered us to attend a wine tasting, cooking class, spa treatments, nothing. We had to fetch ourselves for drinks and food at the pool. Thankfully Roberto arrived at 3 and gave us great service, he saved our stay. He was so nice, presented all the wines we bought and even gave us restaurants recommendations in the city. He should give lessons to the rest of the staff on how to treat guests. Thank you Roberto!

Fabulous resort hotel in a serene location with a stunning view. We enjoyed the surrounding nature while staying. The room was clean, spacious and cozy. Staffs were very friendly. We booked two rooms. Each room has a nice balcony. We enjoyed a dinner at the resort restaurant. The food was exquisite, and the staffs were very friendly and efficient. They had a good collection of wine, cognac and whiskey. Even the house wine was very good too. Breakfast was included and it was just a little disappointing for a hotel of this price point. Over all, Altarocca is reasonably priced and good value for the money, especially in today’s overpriced market.

This resort is top shelf! The friendly and helpful staff, not to mention the restaurant on-site as well as the breakfast, along with the views from a painting exceeded our expectations. I would go back here in a heartbeat. Beautiful spacious rooms, amazing facilities and amenities and the vineyard itself. Amazing place I’d highly recommend!

The food was very good, lovely views from the vineyard and the price was actually pretty reasonable. The waiter, Roberto was terrific and was willing to share a lot of local knowledge with us, that was super helpful. The only negative was some self absorbed dog owners feel the need to bring their dogs with them to an otherwise elegant restaurant, like they are going to a picnic or backyard BBQ, very selfish.

Our entire experience here was magical. My fiancé and I were taking a trip all over Italy and this was our absolute favorite place! Everything from the excellent service to the spectacular resort made our stay here so enjoyable. We are even thinking of this as one of our options for our wedding! Before our visit, I had emailed the resort to help me set up a surprise birthday dinner for my fiancé. Eleonor was so prompt to answer each time and she was so incredibly helpful in helping me plan this amazing night from so far away. I can't say enough about her excelent costumer service as well as everyone from the breakfast restaurant to the dinner restaurant to even the pool bartenders! Thank you so much for making this so special for us! We can't wait to be back one day!
