Vitalhotel Alter Meierhof (Heiligendamm, Ostsee) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Sure, it’s not the Maldives, but for a Baltic escape, a more conducive environment to wellness than that enjoyed by the Alter Meierhof Vital Hotel could scarcely be imagined. Located on the German side of the Flensburg Fjord (Denmark is on the other side), the hotel occupies a quiet green spot adjacent to the water — one of the inlets of the Baltic Sea. A sandstone and half-timbered façade suggest that this is a centuries-old manor house, but a little probing reveals the Alter Meierhof was built in 1999 — so no gloomy corridors or plumbing issues here." - Tablet Hotels

Stayed one night.||Initially given room 214 which was pleasant but a bit of noise later from the kitchens. Reception Staff were fabulous and moved us to a quieter room (204) which was superb with a fabulous view of the fjord.||Spa and swimming pool was very good.||Tried to get a simple dinner but lunch menu not available in the evening and no flexibility offered - found a fabulous cafe down the road (Ferryman) which did the trick.||Breakfast was very good.||All in all, very good stay.

A special beginning of the Northern Europe holiday pleasure in a hotel and SPA not often seen. 5+ stars in our rating. Top level professional, friendly, cheerful staff, services, facilities - which we have not encountered in many other resort stays. A big advantage is the excellent swiming pool and SPA treatments for body and face. Restaurant Meierei Dirk Luther (Michelin Star's awarded) food is gourmet delicious and healthy. Flensburg Fjord seaside nature surroundings are very beautiful. It was a wonderful experience to stay in this hotel, the staff did everything to make us feel special. We recommend a visit & Thanks, Robertas & Co. BANQUEINVEST'com

Beautiful hotel with amazing restaurant options in a beautiful area. The spa was a bit underwhelming (basically just a pool and a sauna), also quite cold even in the summer. But what a view! Supernice staff :)

We had an amazing two nights here. We felt so welcome. The rooms are immaculate! The service is amazing. I spoke with a gentleman in reception they have been working constantly to add the covid-19 recommendations into their daily schedule. Public areas are cleaned several times a day. There are air cleaners in all of the hallways and public location. I also noticed that they appear to take a long time to clean rooms after guests depart. We were given a lovely bag on our departure with water and fruit for our trip. Its going to be very hard for our next stop to live up to this experience. Order massage early don't wait and if you are eating at the restaurant on premise which you should! make sure to book a reservation early

Lovely setting at the Flensborg fjord, just 5-6 km from the city center. Easiest to reach by car, but reachable with public means of communication (bus from Flensburg).||Shaped as an overgrown wooden villa Alter Meierhof houses a variety of rooms and suites, many facing the waterfront and garden.||||Public areas are very nice and the stunning flower arrangements and overall freshness of the lobby and ground floor are impressive. The dimensions are perfect for a sense of both luxury and intimacy.||The staff at the reception kind and helpful and what you'd expect on a five-star level.||||The rooms are however somewhat tired and radiates a feeling of the (19)90-ies.||Nifty bathrooms and comfortable beds for sure, but the need of an upgrade is evident. Heavy keys for the door instead of key cards (useful if you are more than one) is annoying.||What is most appalling for a five star hotel is the lack of air condition!||Well...||On second floor under the roof it can get pretty hot in the summer.||||Alter Meierhof houses three different eating options:||First, there is the two Michelin starred "Meierei Dirk Luther", which we would have loved to try - but alas closed for vacation.||The "Brasserie" was the option and I have reviewed it here on TA separately.||Stylish "semi fine dining" with good food, lovely setting outside (in the summer), a tad over expensive and with slow service.||Third option is the "Bodega" - a small room like a wine cellar with a Spanish theme. Kitchen obviously the same, but the tapas/Espagnol is what is presented. Very nice little cosy room for a few couples/singles. We didn't try it, but it looked as a good option.||||The slow service at the Brasserie was our main concern for not giving this five star establishemt five stars, so to speak...||Obviously understaffed with veeeery long waiting time between the dishes.||NOT what I - or you - should expect and accept from a five star "superior" hotel.||||OK - vacation time and a hard time post covid to get qualified staff. But no, not OK to have a dinner with two courses during two hours and forty minutes....||Must be sharped up - i. e. management: staff your floor appropriately!||||Another major fault was that I sat down at the pool area in the evening (at tables for drinks and food) - and was waved away by a waiter! "You can't sit here if you don't wear svimming clothes". I was properly dressed for dinner. ||My God - staff can't wave people away in a five star hotel!||Major fault!||||The five stars of a hotel is NOT golden knobs in the bathroom. It's all about service quality and level!||Here Alter Meierhof alas doesn't deliver.||||But coming to the spa part, this is where the hotel really shines.||All types of "spa:ing" you can think of with differently tempered hamams, saunas, cool pools etcetera.||In this respect Alter Meinhof excels. A treat and we enjoyed!||||On the whole it was nice to stay here, but the shortcomings I've mentioned above do manifest that what's on the sign at the entrance ("five star superior"), just isn't true.||And I have plenty of reference...||||Breakfast very good, with an extensive assortment of any kind of breakfast ingredients you might long for.||Parking available outside at a fee - and the parking lot was crowded.||||If you have the budget - because Alter Meierhof is a bit over priced and uneven - you could well try it. And hope that the management improve staffing to live up to the five plus "superior". It's what it's all about...

Great place, atmosphere and service is perfect. The food is amazing, we tried the three course menu and loved it. The only downside was the spa, cold ambient temperatur and cold pool temperature. The sauna was good. I can recommed All of it except the spa. Thanks again for Great service throughout the stay.

Google
A fantastic place for a weekend gourmet and wellness getaway. We took the 7 course tasting menu and wine pairing. Deserves a Michelin ⭐️ star. Only downside was the boring cheese serving and the not-matching wine pairing.

Yelp
An excellent spa hotel situated between Flensburg and Glucksburg overlooking the fjord. Without a doubt the best hotel in the area by a long way. The facilites are excellent although the restaurant has been known to let it down.

Summary: Overcharged, safety issues, lacked basic amenities, staff incompetent Detail: My wife and I made massage reservations and visited Alter Meierhof Monday, 6 April, 2009. We arrived several minutes before our appointments, checked-in with the girls at the front desk and were handed two towels. I proceeded into the men's locker room and thought I'd take a shower before my massage. I was not given a tour or any orientation of the facilities. I undressed in the locker room and realized I had no sandals. While I was undressed and completely nude, a female staff member silently walking into the locker room. Although I am completely unashamed of my body, I found her interruption unprofessional and uncomfortable. Barefoot, I went back to the front desk to request some sandals, and re-confirm my massage time (15:10). When asked about the time, it took three people close to 10 minutes to find my wife's name in the computer even though I spelled it slowly several times and it only contains 5 letters! I also noticed a copy of the book I was currently reading was laying on the front desk. I asked about the book (are you enjoying reading this?), only to realize later that my wife had brought my book to the desk for me but the staff was unable to make the connection and did not give it to me as requested. Still completely unfamiliar with the facility, I asked where the massage would be, is nudity allowed (my wife inadvertently took my swim pants), and is there a pool? A staff person gave me a brief tour, explained the saunas are OK if nude (and set at three different temperatures thank god, I would have likely chosen the wrong one and been burned or very uncomfortable, and I don't recall any signs on the doors this could be considered a safety violation), and showed me the massage meeting place (but that was all). I thought I'd take a quick shower. Back into the locker room where there was only hand soap in a dispenser, but no hair shampoo. I used the hand soap to wash my hair and had wire hair the rest of the day. Never have I been into a spa that didn't provide shampoo as well as a host of other amenities like aftershave, lotions, creams, etc. Here, there was only lowly community bowl of body lotion (I think, it looked like a bowl of mayonnaise) next to a lone hair dryer. After 10 minutes in the sauna, I rinsed and went to the meeting area. After 7 or 8 minutes, nobody arrived so I went back to the front desk to inquire. One of the staff walked back with me to the meeting area, and the masseuse was still not there! Finally, she arrived about 10 minutes late. The masseuse went on to give a pretty ordinary back massage. When I commented to her that I have frequent massages and would invite you to use more force, she was only moderately effective. The massage ended, she disappeared, and I noticed that clock in the room read exactly 15:40 so I received only a 20 minute massage! I left the room and went to the pool area looking for a glass of water. Every major spa I have ever been has always had copious amount of complementary fresh water available. I asked at the bar for a glass of water, please, and the response was what is your number? -- so I could be charged! How cheap is this?!! Next, I looked for my wife who had just finished her treatment. She said her massage was pretty good and we looked for a place to sit. Many of the seats and chairs were empty, but used towels/empty glasses were left behind and not removed by spa staff, so nobody could use these seats without doing the cleanup themselves! We found the last remaining pair of seats in a back corner area, and I watched other customers search for seating (and consider sitting outside, but it was too cold). We had a quick dip in the pool, showered and left. Since I was only given one large towel and no others were readily available, I continued to use the same cold, wet towel to dry off three times! Unbelievable! When we checked out (after just under 2 hours), we were (over)charged 192 Euro. I understand the spa was busy on this holiday Easter week, but this is not an acceptable excuse and we should not have been given reservations if staff was overbooked and/or could not comfortably accommodate us. In summary, the Alter Meierhof lacks basic amenities, staff is confused and has trouble with basic requests, the facility is clean but nothing special, and service ranges from average to poor. But the worst offense is overcharging for massage time not delivered. AVOID!
