The Best Walking Tours in Berlin (Updated 2025)

"If you’ve heard all the standard historical highlights and want a different side of the city, I’d take Alternative Berlin Tours: a free, roughly three-hour walk where informative guides tell stories about squatting culture in the ’80s and ’90s, the legendary techno club scene, the fall of the Wall, and punk rock culture, and the tour ends at a riverside “beach bar” where you can have a beer with the guide." - Matthew Kepnes

Had a great Street Art Tour with Susana yesterday. Very relaxed atmosphere, lots of info and beautiful art. I also did a free tour with AB some years ago and that was great, too. So, highly recommended!

This is an absolute must, if you want to get a real feel for Berlin. Reece did an amazing job of bringing the counter culture of Berlin to life. I wish we had done this tour on our first day, not our last. We have been searching for the heart of Berlin, and we finally found it with the help of this tour. Start here people, and if your guide happens to be Reece you are in awesome hands, just excellent.

We recently took the “Alternative Walking Tour” of Berlin with Reece as our guide, it was great! He was able to give us a different perspective on the past and current cultures within Berlin, along with some fun historical facts. Highly recommend this as a way of learning more than just historical events/dates.

One of the things I enjoyed the most visiting Berlin. The guide was very knowledgeable about Berlin’s alternative history and took the time to explain while putting people at ease ! We also had the chance to visit the Turkish Treehouse in Marienneplatz : the son of the man who constructed the treehouse was there at that time. Definitively recommended for those that do NOT like standard tourist attraction crowded with people for looking at Alexanderplatz tower and Checkpoint Charlie…

An unforgettable street art tour—funny, insightful, and full of heart This tour was fantastic from start to finish. Our guide, Rob, was not only incredibly knowledgeable about graffiti and street art—he’s an artist himself—so everything he shared came from real-life experience, not just a script. What made the tour stand out was the perfect mix of humor, history, and heart. He gave us behind-the-scenes insight into Berlin’s vibrant street art scene, breaking down styles, techniques, and unspoken rules of graffiti culture in a way that was both accessible and fascinating. But what really stayed with me were the personal stories he shared—honest, moving, and deeply human. It wasn’t just a tour about walls and paint; it was about resistance, community, and finding your voice.

Outstanding walking tour - a highlight of my Saturday in Berlin - learn how the city’s residents have lived and loved over time. Jake was our clever, funny, knowledgeable and humble guide, taking us through countercultural themes of squatting, graffiti and surveillance - balancing them with social activism, architecture and political history. Buy a wegbier and join in!

Alternative Art and Culture in Berlin! This was my first visit to Berlin, and I am so glad I started my visit with the Alternative Berlin walking tour. We were a small group, which made this tour feel special and personalized. Our guide Marnie is a wealth of information about the Berlin street art scene, and is also an artist. Marnie showed us works of Berlin artists and helped us look for their works all over the city. We also learned about other unique Berliners who left their mark on the scene. Marnie made sure we had a coffee (and chocolate!) and bathroom break, and gave us great tips for local bars, restaurants and other places to visit. I would def do this tour again next time we visit. I highly recommend Marnie and the Alternative Berlin walking tour.

OMG. My 5th time in Berlin as my son lives here and although I have learnt a lot about the city over the years - I learned SO much more with Rhys. He took us to such different places where his humorous & knowledgeable commentary told me so much about the city that the usual touristy walking tours would not do. Thanks Rhys. I will definitely be recommending
