Very traditional German restaurant. The food is delicious and the staff is super nice! We went without reservation on a Friday evening and there were no tables available but the gentleman at the door put us on the waiting list and we got to enjoy our beers at the bar while waiting for our table. The decoration is like a museum. It's very authentic. They brought us an English menu after we have been seated which is nice. We went for the house specialties and we didn't regret! Everything was so delicious and they also have a variety of beers and other drinks. The prices are also very good considering the quality of the food. Highly recommended when you're in Münster.

Visited in 2023 and have been craving the large pork schnitzel with mushroom sauce ever since. Had to come back in 2025 again. Mushrooms were perfectly seasoned and seared, schnitzel was juicy and tender. Comes with salad and yogurt dressing which was amazing, complementing the saltiness of the meat. French fries were large

A very traditional restaurant and bar close to the city center. We went there on a Saturday evening, so we knew it was gonna be crowded. But the waiter said he puts us on a list and we can get some beers and wait at the bar for 30 minutes. We waited a bit longer and the first beers took pretty long (around 30 minutes). The second round of beers came pretty fast afterwards. We all ordered the Haxe with Sauerkraut and Bratkartoffeln. The food arrived pretty fast, maximum 15 minutes wait time. The crust of the Haxe was crispy and delicious. The meat was tender and well spiced. The Bratkartoffeln were nice and served with Bacon and onions. The sauerkraut was Really good too and complimented the dish. I would definitely recommend that place. But either reserve a table before or go not on the weekend. So it's less crowded.

The pork knuckle was delicious. Portion sizes were big, so definitely come hungry. Service was good and overall a solid dining experience. Make sure you reserve to avoid waiting. We had to wait a little and eventually share a table but it didn’t stop us from enjoying the food.

We were so happy we stumbled on this place. Everything was just perfect. A great atmosphere, a very lovely waitress also for our little ones, and of course great food for a good price. We definitely will come back when we visit Münster again!

Typical German traditional restaurant in Münster city center. I booked two weeks in advance by phone. And everything went really good. The staff is really nice and take care of customers seriously. The food was tasty and portions were big. Highly recommended for traditional experience 👍

Yelp
Best authentic german food in Munster, we had a wonderful lady that served and attended to us that was totally giving grandma vibes . She gave us menus in english and was kind enough to explain everything we didn't understand. Took a while to get our order in but, the food followed promptly (its a great place so it gets busy) Over all a wonderful old school, delicious home cooked German culinary experience. Highly recommend it. Skol!

Yelp
A long plane ride, followed by a long train led me to the streets of Münster late one night. As I wandered the Prinzipalmarkt taking in such moonlit sites as St. Paulus Dom and Stadtmuseum my stomach longed to forget the "food" served on the plane and to find genuine German cuisine like Oma would make. Ach ja! The answer to my prayers was discovered at Altes Gasthaus Leve. As I walked through the wooden, stain glass appointed doors I felt welcomed by the decor, staff and ambiance of this quaint restaurant. The waitress who greeted us as the door bobbed and weaved through the narrow doorways and around tables as she guided us to our table. Hand knit place mats and a single candle greeted us, adding to the overall appeal of this traditional German restaurant. Friends and family could be seen gathered at the tables around us, as Easter Eggs hung from the chandelier above. As I lost myself in the menu our waiter brought me back to reality with an offering of a local beer, Pinkus Müller. How could I resist? It wasn't long before we settled on a few traditional items from the menu. I settled on Rheinischer Sauerbraten mit Apfelkompott und Kartoffelkloß (Sauerbraten with apple compote and potato dumpling.) The sauerbraten was expertly prepared where you could cut it with a fork. The Kartoffelkloß was dense yet flavorful and paired perfectly with the gravy. The Apfelkompott was chunky and well seasoned with a cranberry garnish and showed the level of care and respect this restaurant had for its traditional dishes. Visiting Germany? Make sure to visit the vibrant city of Münster. Visiting Münster? Don't neglect to visit Altes Gasthaus Leve.

Yelp
Pitstop! After hours of shopping we needed to sit down and take a rest. - Cake was good - Atmosphere was good - Waitress forgot about us the first time but the service was very good after all - Cheap prices for drinks - The old guy playing piano hit some wrong notes while playing piano haah

Yelp
This is a landmark restaurant in Muenster. Very traditional German food with Munster specialties. Food portion is huge so look around other tables before you order. Most dishes are meat-focused but they have good (and huge) salad as well. I tried Salmon with pasta (substituted with veggies) and it was tasty. I happened to be here twice and at second time, I had salad (around 7 Euro) that should have been my main as it was a mountain of lettuce, blue cheese, apple slices and walnuts and halibut that also came with a bowl (again looking like a small mountain) of salad. Local beer is worth trying (unfiltered but it's tasty and light). My colleague had schnitzel and it came with huge two pieces (not just one, it was about size of calzone..). We didn't have room for dessert as we were sooo full.. Fast service as well. Get the German menu as English menu does not have all dishes in the menu. So you will miss many options. You can use 'google translate' with camera to understand. PS: Excellent baguette. Ask for it if you like bread :)

Yelp
Yes we got lured in by Yelp suggestion and were not disappointed! We wanted some meat, good portions and old interior(historical)! This place has it all! We had to wait on a list for 30+ minutes, BUT this shouldn't disappoint you! Take a beer, get comfy at the bar and just relax, observe the buzz, passing dishes, people, interior and enjoy your drink building up and appetites:) Menu is great! If at the time you go there they have goosr = slam the menu close and just order it!!! Also any other meat dishes would be great! Schnitzels won't disappoint you either:) Amazing place!

Yelp
This is one of my favourite German food places in Germany. The meals are inventive but traditional. The seasonal ones are wonderful eg asparagus or the delicious goose at Christmas (if you can get a table). The cheaper options of sausage and mash with cabbage are great as are the fish meals. Has an old world atmosphere. Staff are friendly, been coming here years and now get a hand shake. Even better as they fully uphold the German non smoking rules.

Yelp
One of the best german restraints we have been to. Potato soup was amazing! Portions are pretty big. Very authentic place in a beautiful historic building. If you are looking for traditional german food definitely try this place. I can't wait to go back. Beers are delicious and not expensive. Great experience! We were visiting Muenster and were really lucky to find this place. There were a lot of locals here even on Monday night, the place was completely packed.
