As a returning customer, I wanted to reiterate just how phenomenal Altman Luggage truly is. I recently stopped by to pick up a new work bag, and the entire experience was incredibly seamless from start to finish. Elan was outstanding—knowledgeable, patient, and he pinpointed the perfect option for my needs in mere minutes. I honestly couldn't recommend Altman Luggage more highly!

Top notch service! Greeted when I came in, they had the luggage I was looking for, albeit not in the color but they helped find me a different one I liked and even lowered the price. Emmett was friendly and helpful. I was in and out the door with a new suitcase in under 15 min. Will def come back to replace another piece of old luggage. Thanks a ton!!

Best possible experience at Altman Luggage! I needed a broken reinforcement bar on my Victorinox garment case repaired. At the authorized Victorinox repair shop in Manhattan, Modern Leather Goods, I was told it's a complicated repair and would cost me $200 (I said I'd think about it). At Altman Lugguage, it took them less than 15 minutes to fix it and they charged $35! They even tightened the other reinforcement bar! These guys truly knew what they were doing and they were super nice and professional. Also, the selection of travel gear is quite impressive there, will surely go there when I need a piece. Thanks!

I’m a retired and looking for something that doesn’t scream crew to use nowadays when I travel. My luggage works days are over. Came in for a 21” 2 wheel carry-on, came out with a set because service is easy and it’s that good. Went through their website to browse things that I wanted when I had coffee this morning and stroll down to the shop to just check things out. Made eye contact with Tito, exchange greetings, told him what I’m looking for. Pulling out of storage, then got the personalized tagged by Emmett in 5mins; Before paying I decided to check the backpack too and got that as well. Paid and leave within 15-20mins top with everything I need. Happy customer 5/5 would recommend anyone in the city looking for quality bags with great service. I got Briggs & Riley which is well known for the no question ask - no fuss lifetime warranty. Altman can help with service and if they can’t do the service in-house they mentioned that they’ll help with processing and just gotta pay shipping. I stumbled across this company a few years ago when searching for a Briggs Riley Case. Was blown away with not only the best in market pricing but also the customer service. Fast shipping, excellent pricing, responsive customer service. Recently purchased a Sterling Pacific SP40L. When I decide to spend the kind of money SP demands I knew I could only trust one vendor. Altman Luggage.

I went to this luggage store on the recommendation from a friend I worked with on the television show. They used to buy luggage for Props, but also the cast would go down to this amazing store on Orchard Street. The staff was so helpful, Tito and Leo were especially helpful. And they gave us a great price. I would definitely buy my luggage from here again.

Just got back my bag that i gave in Monday afternoon for repair. Not only did they do a great job on the repair they went over and beyond to make it like new doing some additional work without charging me. This is the only place to buy or fix luggage. Honest Dependable and a pleasure to shop there. They could have sold me a bag for ten times the price it cost to fix but directed me to repair the bag. Strongly recommend

They have such a huge selection in a smaller space with lots of high quality brands. We ended up here as the Manhattan portage store used to be here and we didn't realized it closed. The staff was so kind and helpful!

This is why you go to a physical store that has spent the past 100 years perfecting its business. Genuinely knowledgeable sales staff, you can put your hands on the bags and try out the features you're looking for, you can just walk out of the store with what you needed (I hate waiting for online shopping orders to arrive) and the very best part...it was $50 *cheaper* than any online price! I got a new Travelpro carry-on with a suit insert while I was in NYC on a work trip; swapped out my old wheelie bag for the TravelPro and it was perfect!

We were determined to not check any luggage on our planned trip to Europe this fall. After extensive online research, YouTube reviewers, visiting department stores, followed by more online research, we narrowed our choices down to two bags. We are so glad we picked Altman Luggage on Orchard St. to compare them side by side. Not only did Altman have both of these bags in stock, but after finishing our comparisons, Tito made us an offer we absolutely could not refuse and we left the store with two of them. A great deal on exactly what we wanted without having to endure any high-pressure sales pitch, or haggling for a better price. We are very happy customers !!!

Omg the best luggage place in the world was there with my wife, and one of the best salesman I ever met his name was Tito. We explain what we wanted, and he showed us everything. we went to buy one luggage. We ended up with three. People I highly recommend this place and ask for Tito. I cannot say enough good things about Altman Luggage! I had an older "luxury brand" rollaboard suitcase that was in great condition and had been a lavish gift from a family member. The handle broke and both the manufacturer and their repair partner told me I was out of luck; the part was no longer available. They said that it was a shame since the suitcase was in such excellent shape. I wasn't about to discard it! I searched and found Altman Luggage, and they repaired it beautifully in just a couple of days for a more than fair price. I recommend them highly, and I'm a picky person ;-)

Altman Luggage is my favorite place to check out travel bags. They're the Authorized Retailer for Manhattan Portage Merchandise. I love their products as they are a symbol of NYC. They never wear out. This business has been in existence since 1920 and is still family owned as far as I know. I'm recommending you visit. I need to get back to the store for photos. Open early in the morning when I needed an emergency suitcase! They have the inventory. Prices are the same as online. Very nice store clerk who can tell you about the products. This is a rare thing, someone who is knowledgeable and doesn't say LOOK IT UP. The neighborhood is very old timey and lots of great snacks after your purchase.

Bought two Samsonite suitcases from here and am a repeat customer. Was used to buying luggage from Marshalls or Ross which never lasted long, this was a whole new and good experience Kind people with expertise in the field so was great being able to get the right type of luggage. Options (1/2): This store holds surprisingly quite a wide variety of brands. However, this is less true when it comes to within-brand variations. Nevertheless, they provide a wide-enough array to meet most anyone's needs. Price (1/2): Pricing is unfortunately quite haphazard? I saw some Samsonites that had 100% markups while some other brands that are instead ~10-25% discounted. Some didn't have any price tags. Service (1/1): Despite the pros/cons of the store itself, service was incredibly outstanding. They were very accommodating, answers all our questions, were very forthright with pricing (despite the actual price), and does have a solid return policy (though I cannot test this since I did not need to return my purchase).

Amazing selection of all luggage and super friendly and helpful staff! Visiting from LA and came in specifically for a Manhattan Portage bag, and they have a huge selection! I will definitely be back here next time I'm in New York and tell all my local New York friends about them!

Exceptional caring service and well worth the trip downtown to replace the broken handle on my beloved suitcase. Another shop tried to charge me 3X as much and Altman did a fantastic job at a fair price plus for $10 more had it delivered to me. Truly amazing and we will be back for sure!

I ordered a piece from Altman online. They requested it to be shipped directly from Travelpro and a mix up at Travelpro sent an inferior product. Altman although closed the first day I called immediately rectified the issue and had my original order expedited out to me and I had it the next day.

For the last 10 yrs Altman's has been my only go to for luggage and accessories. I would recommend them highly.

They went above and beyond to help my wife and I fix a wheel on one of our suitcases that was damaged on our last trip. We will definitely buy all of our luggage here from now on and recommend all of our friends to do the same. They have a great selection and competitive prices, but the employees are definitely the main attraction. It's refreshing to see a small business operate with such old-school professionalism and care. Keep up the great work.

On a whim, I located Altman Luggage on my GPS, while we were strolling around Lower Manhattan. Wow! I should have more whims like this one. Not only was this an awesome shop, with awesome managers and salespeople who listen--Martha, Tito, Mikey, and Leo--but, the selection and brands are worth making the trip to NYC for. We don't have this in Enfield, CT. It was actually a fun atmosphere, where we weren't targeted for a sale, but were treated like valued prospects. My husband's Swiss Gear carry-on was defintely on its last legs, but he wouldn't give it up because he hadn't found Swiss Gear in any of the shops we had tried, and he really won't settle for less quality. Altman Luggage not only had SG, they had a wonderful selection of Samonsite and other high quality brands. We ended up buying me a carry-on, and another for him--a backpack on rollers, small, but roomy, that was exactly what he was looking for. They discounted our purchases--a real deal--and when I shied away from their pen to sign the credit card slip, threw in a $50 Cross, anti-bacterial, copper pen, at a very nice discount. As a side benefit, our choices have lots of room, but are designed well, and we won't be having a problem at the gate, even on international flights or small planes. I'm telling you, don't wait for your whims to kick in. If you need luggage for any purpose, this is the place. We will never shop for luggage anywhere else, and will make it a point to stop in every time we are in NYC.

I gave a call to shop next day and arranged to change bag to another one. So as I did. Without any troubles. And with good discount. I really happy that found these guys, and recommend to everyone shopping here. My bag, btw, Eagle creek cargo hauler duffel 90 liters. I use it 1 week, bear 60 lb and more, have no problems. Recommend it too)

Horrible customer service. Purchased and used a Xenon Samsonite roller briefcase for 3 years and then the zipper broke. I liked it so much that I ordered a new one, but the seams started coming apart in less than 30 days. When I contacted them to make it right - their response was completely unexpected. They would not replace it or repair it. I worked through Amazon and Amazon could not get them to make it right either. Sad customer service.

Never buying luggage anywhere else! Altman is the kind of place that makes New York, New York. Customer service that makes you feel like family, a selection that can't be beat, and great prices. I came here after searching for a place that sold the TravelPro brand, and they have lots of it. Like so many others, Tito helped me pick out a great bag, right down to which color to pick. They even beat the prices I could find online, and I got to walk out with the luggage instead of waiting for two day shipping ;) When I forgot to take the receipt for the bag warranty, I called them and they took a picture of it and emailed it to me right away. Above and beyond customer service. They've been in business for 100 years and it is clear why -- they're the best!

It's a shame to have to give them 1 star because my luggage repair was well done, but my customer experience unacceptable. When I brought my bag in, the repair person told me it was a piece of trash and that I should put it in the garbage. This was an inexpensive Italian leather rolling duffel bag I had just purchased from a cute boutique shop in Rome and one of the wheels had just become a little sticky/jammed after putting it through its paces for the first time. It was not trash. After getting his unsolicited feedback out of his system, he says he can replace the wheel. I ask him if it will match the other wheel and he says no. So I ask if he can replace both wheels and he says yes, for $70, which I thought was steep, but so far this was the only place out of 4 repair stores that I had visited that was capable of doing it since I guess it was not name brand/easy to just get manufacturer parts. (But I'm sure the garbage would have worked fine in this case ). He tells me I can pick it up next week and I said that I needed it sooner, so he agreed and even said he'd call me if it's ready earlier. The day we agreed on comes and I hear nothing. So I call and I'm told that the bag will take at least another week. Mind you, I specifically intended on using this bag for a trip a few days later, so running around to get it repaired in the end was futile because I ended up having to use something different. Once I'm back from my trip I see that I still haven't received any update on the bag so I call. It's been more than 17 days since the date they originally said I could pick it up. I call and they say it's ready for pick up - guess they never bother to call and let customers know. I come in and nobody helps me for several minutes. I'm stared at at first, then make my way to the back and ask for help and have to continue to wait as I'm barely acknowledged. Finally, someone comes out, I point to my bag and he says "it's a beautiful bag now" and shows me the repaired wheels, which look fine. He mutters some half-assed apology about it taking so long as I walk out. I suggest you take your money to a place where they do a good job both on repair service and customer service unless you like paying to be disrespected and frustrated.

They have a good selection of reliable brands at reasonable prices. My fiance wanted a large suitcase, and Tito explained the differences between the two he was looking at and also suggested another promising option. We were in and out very quickly, and Tito and the cashier were friendly.

Altman Luggage is the "family friend in the business" you want when considering a luggage or other travel gear purchase. I was going to have Altman repair a zipper on my 23-year old Hartmann roll-on when I started to calculate the need for a slightly bigger bag for an upcoming trip. I did my homework, and felt another Hartmann or Briggs & Riley would work for me, and came armed with online and other shop pricing and a range of bag dimensions that would suit. And I exhaustively read buyer reviews for each of those bags. Emmet and Tito extended a heartfelt and humorous greeting, quoted me the repair with one hand and started to extol the virtues of a few bags on the other. Like so many others, I was entranced by the Briggs & Riley roll-ons, their compression technology and the lifetime guarantee offered by the company. As I poked, prodded and rolled a few of the bags around, Emmet was patient and jovial--but exerted zero pressure as I mulled one bag over another. As I quoted online pricing I knew, he immediately offered me a generous price--far better than any I could get online, or anywhere else. That was enough for me to pull the trigger, and I couldn't be happier with my decision! I left the Hartmann to be repaired and happily rolled my new Briggs & Riley home on the train. It served me extremely well on a month's worth of travel, and lived up to every promise. Sure--do all your online or in-person homework. But go to Altman and enjoy both the broad selection and process! Altman represents the best of family-owned New York retail, proving a far more satisfying experience than clicking about online! Buy local!

They will not only sell you terrific luggage at a decent price, they will also fix your luggage. I have a well used, 10-year-old travel pro roller board that needed a new wheel, and I was so relieved that they were able to sell me the original equipment. Not only that, but there was a zipper tag that was missing and they popped one on without my asking :-). Thank you, Altman's!!!

I live in Hartford, CT and you cannot buy good luggage in this town. In 36 hours, I was leaving for Europe and the hinge on my suitcase broke. I was going for two weeks and I thought I was doomed, or even worse, I would have to buy a new bag at the airport. I had read the great Consumer Reports reviews regarding Briggs and Riley luggage and I called their customer support number and they told me to call Altman's. I am so glad I did. The guy who answered the phone understood the gravity of my situation and overnighted me (no charge AND morning delivery) the top of the line Briggs and Riley Sympatico Large Spinner, and the best thing, as he promised, was not send me a black one. This burgundy bag is so easy to spot at baggage claim. The bag is even better than he said it would be. It weighs a fraction of my Halliburton, has a lifetime guarantee, and the wheels just glide. I love the tough polycarbonate shell, and the TSA friendly locking system is the easiest locking system I have ever used. I also like the interior mesh that closes over half the bag which it makes it easy to close. It was great customer service and their price was $200.00 less than the same bag I looked at in a shop in Cologne. Thank you very much for the great customer service.

I placed an order online two weeks ago, still haven't received any tracking information. Every-time I call, I'm promised a call back which I never receive. Come to find out what I ordered they didn't have in stock and is waiting to get the item from another merchant. This is $90, if I don't get my item this week I will be calling for a refund.

Tremendous assortment of luggage....prices?..MEH...Bought really nice small Italian bag(wheels) was told this is an "excellent brand" by the salesperson. I hadn't heard of the brand...Within 3 months, easily within what should be ANYONE'S warranty, my wheels shredded..i mean SHREDDED! !..."Sorry", Altman said, "you have to contact the company"... Service, mediocre...Man spent 15 minutes helping us, left for lunch and we started all over with a guy who could have cared less....SO...I called the bag company..."We don't repair", and proceeded to send some wheels in a plastic bag...I would have had to take the bag of wheels to a REPAIR PLACE, as they were impossible to do by myself..I tried, I tried, my friend tried...I threw the bag out...NEVER AGAIN!

Fantastic place for all kind of luggage from high end to Samsonite etc. On my recent trip to NYC I realized after shopping that I need something a little larger. Walked into the store was greeted with wonderful customer service. Looked at several pieces ( such a huge variety ) . I was looking for a pink bag (my fav color) but walked away with a beautiful eggplant colored hard case Samsonite. Price given was better than the ticketed price to. Don't buy pens from these people. I ordered a refill through Amazon and they sent the wrong refill....and it was overpriced at that. Then they shared that they don't have a return policy. Wow, that's not the New York City I grew up in. --Rick in Colorado

I broke a wheel on a piece of LL Bean luggage. I brought it to Altman for repair. Because of the slightly odd diameter of the good wheel, Altman found that they could not fit their own wheel without making the luggage tilt slightly. They then decided to put on two wheels to make the luggage wheel smoothly. They did a great job. In summary, Altman Luggage is a great place to go for luggage repair.

I just purchased 3 beautiful Briggs & Riley suitcases from the delightful Emmett at Altman Luggage. I found them through the B & R website, which indicated they had an "extensive collection," which was definitely true! They carry a wide variety of quality luggage brands. I went in knowing pretty much what I wanted, but Emmet helped me narrow it down, showing me the various features and also giving me space when I wanted to discuss the purchase with my husband. He was a big help, didn't push or try to sell me anything I didn't need. He gave me a great deal, & even let me leave the luggage there so I could run an errand in the neighborhood. When I returned, Emmett sent a guy to help me take all the luggage to Delancey to flag down a taxi. Would definitely recommend Altman Luggage for all your luggage needs. Very happy with the deal I received! I called ahead to see if they would price match their fountain pens since they're excluded from their sales coupons and they do! I was able to get a price match for the Pelikan M205. When I arrived to purchase it, they told me that they only had the special edition SET for it, not just the pen which is what they price matched for me. However, they still honored the price they quoted me on the phone! So I received the set for the same price as what I would have paid for just the pen! The only complaint I had was that I was on hold for a while, but for the deal I received, I'm not bothered! I also only received a 100% price match, not the 110% price match they mention on their site...but honestly, the deal I got was a lot more than what a 110% price match would have been if they had actually made me rematch for the set instead of just the pen.

Came here looking for a big cheap bag to travel with the next day. No snobbery, no upselling, just helpful service. I bought something nicer than I expected at my desired price point and it's held up well.

I stopped in here last weekend to checkout laptop backpacks (found them on Yelp and was in the neighborhood). Great selection of quality luggage, backpacks, and anything travel related (I was impressed by all the little stuff they sell that you need/want for travel). I was helped by Tino who was very friendly and not pushy, which I appreciated. He was knowledgeable and informative. Their stuff is nicer, good quality (no crap from Canal Street, ha), but it's a bit pricier, although they'll give you a deal (might be off list price, not sure). Anyway, I would recommend them.

This is my first experience ordering online from Altman Luggage but it will not be the last. I ordered an item that was of particularly sentimental value because it was part of a gift from my late daughter. The whole process was smooth and professional. I was kept posted every step of the way, and the order arrived sooner than expected - and coincidentally on my birthday! There was an issue with my order - an issue in my favor: they had sent two of the item instead of one. When I reached out to them they responded quickly and in a manner that was clearly sensitive to the particular circumstances of my situation. Altman will be my go-to source because of the way they responded.

I must admit that I was surprised by this place, even with all of the positive reviews. I lived on the Lower East Side for about 6 years and always avoided this street, mainly because the stuff being sold on Orchard is not my style and kind of has that Chinatown knock-off vibe. But this place is legit, and bears little resemblance to most of the other stores on the street that sell "Italian" snake skin shoes and purple Kangols. Leo helped me out. El es un personaje y tiene la paciencia de un monje. He showed me about about 6 different suitcases, two of which he retrieved from the warehouse a couple blocks away. He never tried to upsell me and even brought me two suitcases that he thought I would like for only $100 each. In the end I walked out with a SICK suitcase for $300, but only after spending over an hour in the store comparing all the different bags that Leo brought me and asking him questions about capacity, warranties, wheel stability, etc. It was one of the most educated suitcase purchases I've ever made. And the price was about $120 lower than the tag. I feel like I got a good deal and never felt any pressure to buy. Solid experience all around. I'll recommend this place to my friend and family in NY.

A good friend recommended this place. We went there to get luggage for Christmas presents and we were very satisfied with the services. These people are extremely knowledgeable about the products and brands they carried. They made excellent recommendations and was not pushy to sell in the process. Compared to buying luggage online or at a department store - this experience restored why shopping at specialty stores provides one of a kind expertise that is necessary to make an informed decision. This will be our luggage store going forward.

Do NOT trust this company to ship you luggage on any sort of timeframe. I ordered $1500 worth of luggage from them for an international trip yesterday morning. I explained CLEARLY that I required the luggage for a trip and that if they couldn't send it overnight then I couldn't buy from them. I was guaranteed next day delivery, the lady on the phone promised me it would be there by noon the next day. Called at noon when the luggage did not arrive, to be greeted by someone else who told me "apparently we dropped the ball on that one and it didn't get to UPS yesterday. Soonest we can have it to you is tomorrow at noon". That would be great if I needed them tomorrow BUT I DONT! Their "guarantee" is bullshit. They will tell you what you want to hear. I will never do business with these liars again and I recommend you don't either if you need to stick to ANY sort of schedule.
