Ordered a dress for my engagement party that looked too frumpy. Came to Alts and Lee Ann made my dress fit like a glove! I felt and looked great! Will definitely keep coming for more alterations.

I was looking for a tailor to do some delicate work on two pieces (mending holes in a knit dress, reworking a seam on a sequined shirt), and I absolutely found the right spot. Lee Ann is professional, expeditious, and so talented. She did intricate stitching on both and made them sing like new - and both were ready before the expected date. I have a friend's wedding coming up and can't wait to bring more pieces to Alts and Lee Ann!

I had a rehearsal dinner dress for my wedding that was three sizes too big. I tried to take it to another place, but it was never quite right. I ended up coming to Alterations Specialist two weeks before my wedding, and they did an incredible job and turned it around in a day! I can’t believe how perfect the dress fits! I’m sending my maid of honor here to have her dress fixed because I know they can turn it around in a timely, high quality manner. Cannot recommend them enough!!

I had an amazing experience getting 1 suit jacket, 1 pair of paints and a dress shirt tailored here. Tyrone was extremely helpful in giving advice about the lengths, fit and aesthetics of the clothing. I wil say that this is on the higher end of pricing. I did have to pay $85 to shorten the sleeves on my suit jacket and dress shirt. So be ready to pay a premium for premium service.

Lee Ann at Alts is a true master of her craft. She worked on six of my pieces — including pants and a tuxedo — and every single item came back fitting like it was custom-made for me. Her attention to detail, precision, and care are exceptional. She listened closely, offered thoughtful suggestions, and executed perfectly. I came to Alts because I needed full body measurements for a dress I'm having custom made. LeeAnn took my measurements, and she was wonderful to work with. I had previously sent over a list of measurements requested by my dressmaker, and when I arrived at Alts, LeeAnn was prepared with a pre-annotated sheet to make sure she covered every measurement I needed. She was incredibly detail oriented, taking steps to ensure a high level of accuracy with every measurement. She was so friendly and easy to talk to. I would definitely work with her again!

Would honestly rate this place 0 stars with the exception of the very nice receptionists. They charge an obscene amount of money for the most basic alterations. The first time I came, they charged me $150 for fixing a tear along a seam and a cotton pant hem. Thought it was extremely overpriced but bit the bullet. The second time I came, I brought in an outfit that cost $300, but they were quoting me almost $500 (!!) just to hem the bottom, take in the waist, and cut down a seam half an inch of the top to open it up. For context, I was quoted by another tailor for $100 all-in within FiDi. This specific location seems very comfortable with price gouging to a ridiculous level. I had a dress I wore for my wedding ceremony rush tailored with very intricate beading at the Union Square location and that came out to be much less than the very basic alterations requested here. Disappointing and won't be returning. Warning anyone else who is like me and looking for a reasonable tailor in the area.

I needed to adjust my Indian pre stitched saree - blouse and skirt. Tyrone was amazing and did a difficult job perfectly in a short timeframe! Will for sure go back to Tyrone for any other alterations needed!

Used to be my go to tailor. Always helping me out..... UNFORTUNATELY They are expensive and have changed some of the people over the years. Honestly they just bamboozaled me with timing and costs just now. Will find a new tailor going forward. It's really disappointing when small businesses get too big for the true customer service they were once known for. They do a solid job as far as work is concerned but expensive. Also if you leave anything less than 5 stars they will harass you to change it.

Love coming to Alts!! Atmosphere is always comfortable and not a cramped little closet. They've done so many of my alterations (full length dresses, suits, denim, etc...) and it's always seamless. LeeAnn who is the fitter is awesome and so knowledgeable. She gives her recommendations to make sure you get the best fit possible!!

I cannot express enough thanks to Sinai and the Grand Central Alterations specialist team for helping me with tailoring two dresses for my wedding. I am shaped like a pear and so I often need to buy clothes a few sizes up to accommodate my hips, and then take it in along the bust and sides. I had one silk red gown that that needed to be hemmed shorter, but also needed some very tricky tailoring along the bust, sides, and straps that needed to take into account that it was backless. Without the tailoring the dress was falling off my shoulders. Sinai also noticed that the gown was gapping along the back unevenly so the fabric was not laying properly against my back. He quickly tailored the dress in 2 weeks, and when I tried it on again, the dress fit me like an hourglass and there was no more weird gapping along the back. He also hemmed the entire dress shorter to match my heel height, so that I could easily dance. I've had other tailors still leave the length too long and make it impossible to dance in, so I appreciated that he hemmed it perfectly. I also had a second strapless red dress that I needed for another wedding event, that I had left until the last possible moment right before I needed to leave town for the wedding (my fault, but the issue was that my original dress was tailored somewhere else and was not working, and I decided to go in a different direction). The dress needed to be hemmed to be tighter along the bust so that nothing popped out of the strapless dress, while not being too tight against my skin. I came in on a Wednesday, and it was ready on Friday right in time for my wedding. I am so grateful to Sinai for his kindness, attention to detail, and helping me feel beautiful and ready for the wedding. Pics are from my first meeting to pin the first dress, and then a second meeting to try on the finished dress. For the second dress I have pics of the first meeting to pin me.

I wasn't going to rate them as they seemed to be willing to fix the problem but I should share my experience. I took a new simple shift Etro dress to be shortened. A simple job but because the dress was expensive, I chose Alts because I believed they would match the original invisible hem. What I got back was a nightmare! They added an interfacing tape (none was there originally) and then just ran a sewing machine basic stitch to hem it. Besides the hem being extremely obvious, the dress did not have the same drape and had this weird uneven hem that was very stiff. I was practically in tears. I returned it and they assured me they would correct it and they took out the interfacing tape and re-hemmed it by hand? Good, right? No! I walked about three blocks in the dress to go to dinner and the hem fell out. I was so embarrassed- luckily the restaurant was dark. I took it back to them- they redid the hem. Wore it again- the same thing happened. I gave up on them. I went on a trip so I hung it in my closet and forgot until I wanted to to wear it in two days! I guess that won't happen and I will have to find a new tailor.

I have been to Alts three times so far and every time I've gone, everyone who works there is friendly and professional. The place is a bit pricey but quality of the alteration makes up for it. They clearly know what they're doing.

When you only travel into the city to get your jeans tailored... you know the quality, experience, and customer service is 100/10! I wouldn't trust anywhere else with my alterations, the level of care and craftsmanship is unparalleled here. The place is so clean, the staff is SO accommodating, and the overall experience is beyond enjoyable every time. I cant recommend ALTS for all your tailoring needs!

Alts did beautiful work on a tuxedo style jumpsuit for me! It was pretty extensive tailoring through the top of the garment, taking in the lapel, taking up the shoulders and sleeves. It turned out great and I can't wait to wear it! Hamid did a lovely job with the tailoring and Diamond at the front desk is great. The alterations were more expensive than I anticipated, and there was a little snafu with a delay in the pickup notification, but all in all very happy. I will return for my other complex and/or high end alterations for sure.

Just got my dress altered - I didn't wear it for a while and when put it on, I realized that it's a little tight. I took it to Alteration Specialists to see if something can be done with the dress so that I can continue to wear it. Donna (one of the tailors) did a great job. She added a half of inch on each side and fully replaced the lining because there was not enough fabric for an alteration. The dress fits perfectly and there is no way you can tell that something was done with it. They did some other alteration jobs for us, just less major. Definitely recommend this place.

I came here to get jump suit pants taken up and was given a quote of $120. I brought it in on a Wednesday and wanted it the following Wednesday and they told me that a rush fee would be tacked on to $120 quote. The jump suit didn't even cost as much as the alteration cost with the rush fee so I walked out. The place is clean and the people are pleasant and professional but the prices here are frankly a rip off. I talked to my friends about finding another tailor and was introduced by them to a tailor who turned the exact same alteration request around in four days for $28.

All the clothes I get tailored are impeccably done and repaired. Great and welcoming staff - highly recommend!

Hands down the best tailor experience I've had in NYC! The clothes were tailored to perfection, and the tailor listened to my wishes on how I wanted things to fit! The staff at the front desk are super friendly as well! The studio is large and well lit, making you feel pretty as you try things on. Lastly, the clothes were ready before I even needed them to be! In a pinch they even were able to help me out with rush one day tailoring. Cannot recommend Alts enough!!

I brought in a jacket to have the shoulders adjusted and the tailor recommended tapering the sleeves. It made such a difference and was finished sooner than expected. I'll be back with another jacket soon!

The tailor Sinai and office admin Johnathan took such good care of me for alterations to my wedding suit. They had a fast turnaround for MAJOR alterations, communicated all along the way, and accommodated my scheduling changes and needs with no fuss. When trying on the suit after alterations Sinai was incredibly attentive to make sure everything was perfect and made a couple last adjustments completely free/included with the price. It really was such a good experience, and this is the best I've ever looked in a suit!! Will be coming here for all my future tailoring needs!

This place is tops. From the service to the quality to the ambiance, I can't imagine going anywhere else for my alteration needs. They always take great care of all my garments and their tailors are a pleasure to work with -- always kinds and receptive. Their space itself is thoughtfully designed and definitely in a league of its own compared to more traditional alteration shops which often do not put any thought into the energy or feel of their space. Beautiful, FAST, detailed, efficient service. I came in on a Tuesday panicked because I needed a couture gown altered in under a week for a wedding. Bibi immediately made me feel comfortable. She listened to exactly what I wanted and knew what to do to make an already beautiful gown extraordinary, and she managed to do it in 3 days and called to say it was finished early. The work speaks for itself, but I had an amazing experience throughout the whole process and will definitely be returning for all my tailoring needs

I have gone to a few alteration services in and around NYC as I typically buy suits and pants off the rack. While I've entertained bespoke or made to measure suits, it's much easier to find great deals on suits shopping around, especially when I wear them everyday for work. The wear and tear on my suits has some of them lasting 1 year. So I bought a handful of new suits and needed the pants hemmed. I've also, like I said, been to a few services. Some rated highly (though not worth the bad facilities and snooty people on top of steep prices) and others just at a nearby cleaner. However, after a series of lost or damaged clothing, I couldn't send out my Super 110 and Super 130 pants. Ask for Sona Babooram. The price of this place is roughly average and the quality of service and work is great making it awesome value! The work is done in house, and the facilities are clean, changing rooms neat, and reception area/mirrors as well as space where the tailors work flawless. I'm a big fan!

Sona and team really does fabulous work, and they combine it with Incredibly friendly service. I have ask them to do some tough jobs, like taking a leather jacket down 4 sizes and a tuxedo on a rush basis, and every time the work was done on time and done flawlessly. Truly a gem.

This was my first time using alteration specialist and have such a fantastic experience. You get what you pay for and my tailor Donna did an amazing job. I had to get a dress tightened and essentially made to a smaller size and she did it to perfection. Will definitely be coming back!

I've come to Alteration Specialists: Grand Central a couple times now and I have always been most impressed with the care they place into altering my clothes. The customer service is impeccable and I am always satisfied with the result of my alterations.

The absolute best tailors in the city - they're quick and they do the absolute best job. The fitting room is also very spacious and clean and you don't feel rushed at all - they take their time during the fitting to make sure every part of your dress fits perfectly. Could not recommend highly enough!

I have an especially nice, somewhat expensive leather jacket with a zip in lining for winter. A section of the leather was damaged to the extent that it was beyond salvation. Alterations Specialists were recommended. In particular I was suggested to contact Sona. He got a good match of some nice leather and sewed in a new section of leather. He matched the pattern on the other side to keep symmetry. He also matched the stitching used throughout the jacket. All in all he did a very fine job. It was also done faster than expected and the cost was reasonable considering the quality of the work and materials and the jacket itself. They are first on my list for any similar work. And personally I would ask for Sona!

I've been coming to AS for over 4 years now, they have never let me down. Sona in particular provides excellent customer service and makes recommendations that have only enhanced the way I look. I have visited this alterations boutique about 4 times now and every time have been extremely satisfied with my garment afterwards. The location itself is extremely clean, organized, and professional. The seamstresses are very skilled and I've always been impressed with how quickly they finish my pieces. The value is definitely there with this location and I recommend it to all my friends. It's a stress free environment that is always trustable with even the most delicate pieces.

This was My first time at Alteration Specialists on 130 East 40th St. Going in Thinking, ok it's a Tailor and worried about what the outcome will look like of my Dolce Gabbana suit that I needed taken out and hemmed. I've always been hesitant to get anything altered, especially more high-end garments due to subpar past experiences. I really loved the work Bibi did - she altered a garment that was 3 sizes too large so that it fits perfectly. Bibi is so sweet and patient, I felt super comfortable explaining how I wanted all the items altered. She made sure we both agreed completely on the fit even if it meant taking out the pins and re-pinning. The business seems to be doing a great job in making sure appointments are staggered to minimize any contact with other customers and also finished my alterations a day earlier than promised. Bibi is definitely going to be my go-to tailor from now on. Also, they have a time window where you can bring clothes back if you're not 100% satisfied with the alterations. I had trousers that were still too large on the waist and a jumpsuit that I originally thought I wanted to fit loosely but realized I wanted it more tapered from the waist down through the legs after trying it on. Bibi and Cindy were so nice and accommodating when I came back. Even though Bibi had already brought in the jumpsuit a large amount, she said she would bring it in even more as a courtesy at no extra charge. The customer service here, from the front desk to the tailors is really top notch.
