I had such a great experience with Alts Alteration Specialists. From the moment I walked in, the team was professional, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable. They really took the time to understand exactly how I wanted my garment to fit and made thoughtful recommendations that truly elevated the final result. The craftsmanship was excellent ,everything fit perfectly, and the attention to detail was clear. It’s not easy to find a place you can fully trust with important pieces, but Alts made the entire process seamless and stress-free. I’ll absolutely be returning for future alterations and will be recommending Alts to friends and family. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

It would have been difficult for them to be kinder and more attentive. Five stars. I will be back. Brought pants to wear around the city that were flannel lined but not altered correctly. They rushed the job and got it done at the beginning of our time there on Friday morning. I was able to wear them all day Friday, all day Saturday, and all day Sunday. Stayed toasty warm. Looked stylish. They even gave me advice on length. 5/5! Will visit again!

Avalon quickly transformed a dress I no longer wore into an adorable peplum top that I can see myself wearing much more often! I also had two formal wedding guest dresses tailored to fit me perfectly. While their prices are premium, you are definitely receiving premium service and peace of mind that you’ll be getting exactly what you asked for. I’ve been burned a couple times going to random dry cleaners for alterations and getting things back shorter than what I had requested. Highly recommend Alts - especially if you have any formal or event wear you want tailored to fit you perfectly!

Alts took me in right away! Such amazing service. Lidia is a sweetheart and was able to fix my dress (and an additional garment I brought in not intending to alter) on such short notice! Amazing staff. I always find myself coming back here!

Tyrone Jones at the Grand Central location is my tailor-hero. Besides being expertly knowledgeable and skillful, he has a great sense of style and is a pleasure to work with. And if there are options to consider, I never feel rushed. One tricky project was a great Chloe jacket in camel hair that was shredding at its quilted-silk shoulders. It was unusable. He overlaid the worn areas with camel hair, and it looks perfect, as though it was designed that way. I’ve been coming to Tyrone for two years, for many items. He’s superb.

I brought in my dress with very little time before a wedding, slightly stressed about the fit — and they worked magic. Everything was tailored beautifully and ready right when promised. It fit like it was made for me. I felt so good all night. So grateful!

I had a fantastic experience at Alts Grand Central! I needed my dress pants hemmed on very short notice, and they were able to accommodate my walk-in and expedite service for me. The front desk staff was very welcoming and the space was warm and inviting. Tyrone was extremely helpful and took the time to assess the fit and gave expert advice on the perfect length for me. Highly recommend to anyone in need of top-notch tailoring and service... especially in a pinch!

I got a two pairs of paints altered at this store. Both pants were thrifted and therefore fit awkwardly, however, after getting the paints back they quickly became my favorite items in the wardrobe. Alts was incredibly professional, I will happily return when I have new things to tailor :)

Tyrone Jones IS ABSOLUTELY A LIFESAVER. My wedding was literally in 2 days, and I gave a quick call to the 40th street Alts location. The clasp and hook on my wedding dress had broken, and they kindly took me in immediately. The team was so understanding and helpful. Tyrone immediately replaced the clasp for me (within 15 minutes) - and it was SIGNIFICANTLY stronger than the one that came with the dress itself. Truly so thankful. I was so stressed given the timing, but they were SO patient. I will also say, I did come here for my second dress for the wedding as well and they did a wonderful job. The team is really just so patient and caters to what you need. My dress was altered much faster than initially scheduled.

I came to Alts because I needed full body measurements for a dress I'm having custom made. LeeAnn took my measurements, and she was wonderful to work with. I had previously sent over a list of measurements requested by my dressmaker, and when I arrived at Alts, LeeAnn was prepared with a pre-annotated sheet to make sure she covered every measurement I needed. She was incredibly detail oriented, taking steps to ensure a high level of accuracy with every measurement. She was so friendly and easy to talk to. I would definitely work with her again!

I came in without an appointment & with an odd request - my couch puff pillow ripped at the seam about 3 inches and I needed it sewed closed. I didn't know if this was something an alterations specialist could fix (since this wasn't a piece of clothing) but I decided to pop into the store and check. Without hesitation, they offered to fix my pillow same day! I came back within a few hours and my pillow looked better than ever! I'm so happy & I definitely recommend the services of Alts.

Exquisite service and high quality alterations. My pants were perfectly hemmed. The tailor I worked with I also admirable integrity. The suit I brought in was made of a high-end Loro Piana S150 fabric, but it was completely the wrong size and he quoted me that the alterations would cost around $800. I asked him if we could skimp on some of the alterations to get the price down to around $400. He told me, to be honest I could do that, but It just would not look right. he said that he would rather NOT get the work than to have a customer wear a jacket that makes him look off. A tailor with less integrity would've just said: sure thing do whatever you want and get the $400 bucks. Now, if only I can remember the Tailor's name. I think his name was Robert and I came in on a Friday evening.

Have been using this location for awhile and always have a good experience. Most recently it was with Tyrone Jones who offered excellent service and turn around time in removing the shoulder pads from a dress. Highly recommend!

I brought 13 items to Tyrone, including a suit that needed almost complete restructuring. Every item was completed with upmost attention to detail and now fits better than I'd imagined the could. Worth every penny and Tyrone even finished the alterations earlier than quoted! I'll be brining every item of clothing I buy to Tyrone from here on out.

Tyrone, the tailor shop manager and master tailor, was able to fix a tear in my husband's Canada Goose down jacket on site while I waited. The tear was in a difficult place but he was able to make it work! We are so grateful for the quick and excellent service.

Alteration specialist always does a fantastic job for both mens and womens clothing! I've gotten work pants, suits and jackets done here and they come out perfect each time!

Would honestly rate this place 0 stars with the exception of the very nice receptionists. They charge an obscene amount of money for the most basic alterations. The first time I came, they charged me $150 for fixing a tear along a seam and a cotton pant hem. Thought it was extremely overpriced but bit the bullet. The second time I came, I brought in an outfit that cost $300, but they were quoting me almost $500 (!!) just to hem the bottom, take in the waist, and cut down a seam half an inch of the top to open it up. For context, I was quoted by another tailor for $100 all-in within FiDi. This specific location seems very comfortable with price gouging to a ridiculous level. I had a dress I wore for my wedding ceremony rush tailored with very intricate beading at the Union Square location and that came out to be much less than the very basic alterations requested here. Disappointing and won't be returning. Warning anyone else who is like me and looking for a reasonable tailor in the area.

Used to be my go to tailor. Always helping me out..... UNFORTUNATELY They are expensive and have changed some of the people over the years. Honestly they just bamboozaled me with timing and costs just now. Will find a new tailor going forward. It's really disappointing when small businesses get too big for the true customer service they were once known for. They do a solid job as far as work is concerned but expensive. Also if you leave anything less than 5 stars they will harass you to change it.

Great service, in and out like a demons whisper. Really affordable quote as well, will definitely come again when in need and highly recommended.

they were nice there but i went to get a zipper fixed and they said it would be $125 and take 2 weeks, went to another place within 5 minutes and got it for $45 and it would only take one week

I needed to adjust my Indian pre stitched saree - blouse and skirt. Tyrone was amazing and did a difficult job perfectly in a short timeframe! Will for sure go back to Tyrone for any other alterations needed!

Love coming to Alts!! Atmosphere is always comfortable and not a cramped little closet. They've done so many of my alterations (full length dresses, suits, denim, etc...) and it's always seamless. LeeAnn who is the fitter is awesome and so knowledgeable. She gives her recommendations to make sure you get the best fit possible!!

I cannot express enough thanks to Sinai and the Grand Central Alterations specialist team for helping me with tailoring two dresses for my wedding. I am shaped like a pear and so I often need to buy clothes a few sizes up to accommodate my hips, and then take it in along the bust and sides. I had one silk red gown that that needed to be hemmed shorter, but also needed some very tricky tailoring along the bust, sides, and straps that needed to take into account that it was backless. Without the tailoring the dress was falling off my shoulders. Sinai also noticed that the gown was gapping along the back unevenly so the fabric was not laying properly against my back. He quickly tailored the dress in 2 weeks, and when I tried it on again, the dress fit me like an hourglass and there was no more weird gapping along the back. He also hemmed the entire dress shorter to match my heel height, so that I could easily dance. I've had other tailors still leave the length too long and make it impossible to dance in, so I appreciated that he hemmed it perfectly. I also had a second strapless red dress that I needed for another wedding event, that I had left until the last possible moment right before I needed to leave town for the wedding (my fault, but the issue was that my original dress was tailored somewhere else and was not working, and I decided to go in a different direction). The dress needed to be hemmed to be tighter along the bust so that nothing popped out of the strapless dress, while not being too tight against my skin. I came in on a Wednesday, and it was ready on Friday right in time for my wedding. I am so grateful to Sinai for his kindness, attention to detail, and helping me feel beautiful and ready for the wedding. Pics are from my first meeting to pin the first dress, and then a second meeting to try on the finished dress. For the second dress I have pics of the first meeting to pin me.

I wasn't going to rate them as they seemed to be willing to fix the problem but I should share my experience. I took a new simple shift Etro dress to be shortened. A simple job but because the dress was expensive, I chose Alts because I believed they would match the original invisible hem. What I got back was a nightmare! They added an interfacing tape (none was there originally) and then just ran a sewing machine basic stitch to hem it. Besides the hem being extremely obvious, the dress did not have the same drape and had this weird uneven hem that was very stiff. I was practically in tears. I returned it and they assured me they would correct it and they took out the interfacing tape and re-hemmed it by hand? Good, right? No! I walked about three blocks in the dress to go to dinner and the hem fell out. I was so embarrassed- luckily the restaurant was dark. I took it back to them- they redid the hem. Wore it again- the same thing happened. I gave up on them. I went on a trip so I hung it in my closet and forgot until I wanted to to wear it in two days! I guess that won't happen and I will have to find a new tailor.

I have been to Alts three times so far and every time I've gone, everyone who works there is friendly and professional. The place is a bit pricey but quality of the alteration makes up for it. They clearly know what they're doing.

When you only travel into the city to get your jeans tailored... you know the quality, experience, and customer service is 100/10! I wouldn't trust anywhere else with my alterations, the level of care and craftsmanship is unparalleled here. The place is so clean, the staff is SO accommodating, and the overall experience is beyond enjoyable every time. I cant recommend ALTS for all your tailoring needs!

Alts did beautiful work on a tuxedo style jumpsuit for me! It was pretty extensive tailoring through the top of the garment, taking in the lapel, taking up the shoulders and sleeves. It turned out great and I can't wait to wear it! Hamid did a lovely job with the tailoring and Diamond at the front desk is great. The alterations were more expensive than I anticipated, and there was a little snafu with a delay in the pickup notification, but all in all very happy. I will return for my other complex and/or high end alterations for sure.

Just got my dress altered - I didn't wear it for a while and when put it on, I realized that it's a little tight. I took it to Alteration Specialists to see if something can be done with the dress so that I can continue to wear it. Donna (one of the tailors) did a great job. She added a half of inch on each side and fully replaced the lining because there was not enough fabric for an alteration. The dress fits perfectly and there is no way you can tell that something was done with it. They did some other alteration jobs for us, just less major. Definitely recommend this place.

Second trip here to have Sinai fix two pair of pants. The service was quick and stitching first rate. I will definitely come again!

I came here to get jump suit pants taken up and was given a quote of $120. I brought it in on a Wednesday and wanted it the following Wednesday and they told me that a rush fee would be tacked on to $120 quote. The jump suit didn't even cost as much as the alteration cost with the rush fee so I walked out. The place is clean and the people are pleasant and professional but the prices here are frankly a rip off. I talked to my friends about finding another tailor and was introduced by them to a tailor who turned the exact same alteration request around in four days for $28.

Hands down the best tailor experience I've had in NYC! The clothes were tailored to perfection, and the tailor listened to my wishes on how I wanted things to fit! The staff at the front desk are super friendly as well! The studio is large and well lit, making you feel pretty as you try things on. Lastly, the clothes were ready before I even needed them to be! In a pinch they even were able to help me out with rush one day tailoring. Cannot recommend Alts enough!!

The tailor Sinai and office admin Johnathan took such good care of me for alterations to my wedding suit. They had a fast turnaround for MAJOR alterations, communicated all along the way, and accommodated my scheduling changes and needs with no fuss. When trying on the suit after alterations Sinai was incredibly attentive to make sure everything was perfect and made a couple last adjustments completely free/included with the price. It really was such a good experience, and this is the best I've ever looked in a suit!! Will be coming here for all my future tailoring needs!

I brought in a jacket to have the shoulders adjusted and the tailor recommended tapering the sleeves. It made such a difference and was finished sooner than expected. I'll be back with another jacket soon!

This place is tops. From the service to the quality to the ambiance, I can't imagine going anywhere else for my alteration needs. They always take great care of all my garments and their tailors are a pleasure to work with -- always kinds and receptive. Their space itself is thoughtfully designed and definitely in a league of its own compared to more traditional alteration shops which often do not put any thought into the energy or feel of their space. A+ all around!

Beautiful, FAST, detailed, efficient service. I came in on a Tuesday panicked because I needed a couture gown altered in under a week for a wedding. Bibi immediately made me feel comfortable. She listened to exactly what I wanted and knew what to do to make an already beautiful gown extraordinary, and she managed to do it in 3 days and called to say it was finished early. The work speaks for itself, but I had an amazing experience throughout the whole process and will definitely be returning for all my tailoring needs

I have gone to a few alteration services in and around NYC as I typically buy suits and pants off the rack. While I've entertained bespoke or made to measure suits, it's much easier to find great deals on suits shopping around, especially when I wear them everyday for work. The wear and tear on my suits has some of them lasting 1 year. So I bought a handful of new suits and needed the pants hemmed. I've also, like I said, been to a few services. Some rated highly (though not worth the bad facilities and snooty people on top of steep prices) and others just at a nearby cleaner. However, after a series of lost or damaged clothing, I couldn't send out my Super 110 and Super 130 pants. Ask for Sona Babooram. The price of this place is roughly average and the quality of service and work is great making it awesome value! The work is done in house, and the facilities are clean, changing rooms neat, and reception area/mirrors as well as space where the tailors work flawless. I'm a big fan!

Sona and team really does fabulous work, and they combine it with Incredibly friendly service. I have ask them to do some tough jobs, like taking a leather jacket down 4 sizes and a tuxedo on a rush basis, and every time the work was done on time and done flawlessly. Truly a gem.

I've come to Alteration Specialists: Grand Central a couple times now and I have always been most impressed with the care they place into altering my clothes. The customer service is impeccable and I am always satisfied with the result of my alterations.

This was My first time at Alteration Specialists on 130 East 40th St. Going in Thinking, ok it's a Tailor and worried about what the outcome will look like of my Dolce Gabbana suit that I needed taken out and hemmed. Well I was Blown away on the work that was done, he, the tailor was a magician, Perfectly tailored at a reasonable price. I'm already thinking on what to bring next. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you

I have an especially nice, somewhat expensive leather jacket with a zip in lining for winter. A section of the leather was damaged to the extent that it was beyond salvation. Alterations Specialists were recommended. In particular I was suggested to contact Sona. He got a good match of some nice leather and sewed in a new section of leather. He matched the pattern on the other side to keep symmetry. He also matched the stitching used throughout the jacket. All in all he did a very fine job. It was also done faster than expected and the cost was reasonable considering the quality of the work and materials and the jacket itself. They are first on my list for any similar work. And personally I would ask for Sona!
