"Altun Ha, the Mayan Treasury Just 45-minutes north of Belize City, Altun Ha is a complex of Mayan ruins dating back hundreds of years. Once the "treasury" for the Mayan people, Altun Ha is one of the most important Mayan sites in the country. Go on a tour of the place with Foolish Dreamzzz, a locally owned operator that will take your group at any size (and the price per person doesn't change, whether you're in a group of one or ten). Ask for Kendis Ferguson, the owner and a former history and social studies teacher. He and his company go above and beyond to make sure guests have all their questions answered, and he'll even make sure you get to climb to the top of the ruins—something not a lot of tour guides in the area make the time to do. The views from there, of course, are amazing."

A fun, easily accessible Maya Site. We drove up from Belize City for a quick morning visit, going early to avoid the cruise excursion crowd. The grounds are open and well-maintained. There was an elderly gentleman with us that we were able to convince to climb the structures. He had a wonderful time. It is definitely a nice, training wheels style site to visit if you are only passingly interested, because it may make the novice more curious, and yet there is also enough to entertain the Pre-Columbian hobbyist like myself.

An amazing place! The guide we got was great and informative. The souvenir shops are by far the most expensive we've come across. We've so far visited several sites to include Lamanai and Xunantunich and the prices are over double for most things here. My point is, if this is also your first stop in Belize as it was mine because it was on my way to where I was staying that night, wait to buy souvenirs.

Altun ha is a unique place with so much history. I went on a guided tour that I booked through Carnival cruise. The tour itself took approximately one hour; the guides were knowledgeable and helpful. Keep in mind that it gets super hot and there isn’t much shade; therefore, you should bring a hat, UV clothing, a cooling fan and a bottle of water. I truly enjoyed this kind of experience and content that Ivisited such a historic area. 🫶🏻

This is an important and historic place. Go see it! $20 per person USD or $40 per person in Belize dollars to enter. Make sure to walk to the Mayan reservoir too!

Phenomenal Mayan city. It is being well preserved and still has ongoing excavations. I wouldn’t miss an opportunity to visit this site. Walk through and explore ancient history today. Get a guide. They are I helpful and share knowledge and wisdom.

Well preserved Mayan city with a small museum and toilets. Our guide walked with us and explained what we were seeing. There are stairs to climb up the main pyramid, which is a climb due to the uneven stairs. The down side has handrails. A very interesting stop and well worth the trip. Try to go on a non-cruise ship day (we went on Tuesday and it was practically deserted).

Great place to see the ruins. Not a ton of walking and have bathroom and some shops there on the property. If you forgot something to drink they do have coke products in glass or plastic containers. It wasn't crazy busy when we were there.

Wonderful Mayan Ruins in easy reach of Belize City. There are guides available on the parking lot if you want a guided tour. I’d recommend arriving early - the cruise ship buses begin arriving around 10 am. We arrived at 8:30 and pretty much had the place to ourselves for some incredible photo ops. Also, the birds are more active and easy to spot early in the morning. We saw several of the national bird, the Keel-billed Toucan, and the Collared Aracari.
