"Altun Ha, the Mayan Treasury Just 45-minutes north of Belize City, Altun Ha is a complex of Mayan ruins dating back hundreds of years. Once the "treasury" for the Mayan people, Altun Ha is one of the most important Mayan sites in the country. Go on a tour of the place with Foolish Dreamzzz, a locally owned operator that will take your group at any size (and the price per person doesn't change, whether you're in a group of one or ten). Ask for Kendis Ferguson, the owner and a former history and social studies teacher. He and his company go above and beyond to make sure guests have all their questions answered, and he'll even make sure you get to climb to the top of the ruins—something not a lot of tour guides in the area make the time to do. The views from there, of course, are amazing."

This was my first ever Mayan ruins visit and I didn't know what to expect. When you first walk onto the site, it's a breath taking view of ancient culture and architecture. I really enjoyed the visit and highly recommend it. It's very easy to access, you can climb up two of the monuments, and it's exceptionally well kept.

It's a little ways away from where we stayed, but it was worth the trip. The tour guide was a new junior tour guide; she was very knowledgeable and laid back. Before doing your tour, make sure you stop at the restaurant located in the same lot. We got fried chicken, beans, and rice, and everyone agrees it's still the best rice and beans we had, and the chicken was soooo good and seasoned!!! They had music going; it was really a whole vibe. I'm dogging my food and make eye contact with the owner. I'm like, "Yes, mama, you put your foot in this! You did your thang for sure!" She smiles and says, "I wouldn't serve you something I wouldn't eat." She was so sweet. We spent some time taking shots, and my brother's partner got his hair braided, and the people were super nice and super humble. I love that in a restaurant owner. We will be back. Oh, and they got that mama juana 🦾😅🤣. Great place! 10/10, do recommend.

Make sure you hire tour guide, Mr. Woodeye, and take the Triple Tour (Altun Ha, ATV and Tubing)!! Steep steps going up and down. Be prepared for the climb 📶 and heat 🥵

An amazing place! The guide we got was great and informative. The souvenir shops are by far the most expensive we've come across. We've so far visited several sites to include Lamanai and Xunantunich and the prices are over double for most things here. My point is, if this is also your first stop in Belize as it was mine because it was on my way to where I was staying that night, wait to buy souvenirs.

Altun ha is a unique place with so much history. I went on a guided tour that I booked through Carnival cruise. The tour itself took approximately one hour; the guides were knowledgeable and helpful. Keep in mind that it gets super hot and there isn’t much shade; therefore, you should bring a hat, UV clothing, a cooling fan and a bottle of water. I truly enjoyed this kind of experience and content that Ivisited such a historic area. 🫶🏻

A fun, easily accessible Maya Site. We drove up from Belize City for a quick morning visit, going early to avoid the cruise excursion crowd. The grounds are open and well-maintained. There was an elderly gentleman with us that we were able to convince to climb the structures. He had a wonderful time. It is definitely a nice, training wheels style site to visit if you are only passingly interested, because it may make the novice more curious, and yet there is also enough to entertain the Pre-Columbian hobbyist like myself.

This is an important and historic place. Go see it! $20 per person USD or $40 per person in Belize dollars to enter. Make sure to walk to the Mayan reservoir too!

We climbed the “Temple of the Sun God” in the Altun Ha Mayan Ruins. From the top, we had great views of the two large central plazas surrounded by excavated temple pyramids of various heights. . The city of Altun Ha reached its peak in middle of the Classic Period (200 A.D. to 900 A.D.), the golden age of Mayan Civilization. The city began its slow decline before being abandoned with the rest of the surrounding cities as the Mayan populations collapsed and moved northward during the Post-Classic Period (900-1200 A.D.) . Altun Ha was a medium-sized city located in an area of extremely high quality Chert, the best in the Mayan world. Chert is a hard rock that was used to make stone tools, weapons and eccentric flint art pieces. The mining, production and trade of these stone items allowed the city to grow rich and prosper.
