"The large, leafy patio of this mezze restaurant in bohemian Exarchia was once the local schoolyard. Now cozy couples and animated gaggles of friends gather beneath the flowering bowers to enjoy some of the most honest and comforting food in town. Order as many dishes as you can fit on the table and share them all. Rather than traditional Greek fare, the menu is a tasty Mediterranean pick-and-mix. Try the cracked wheat salad with green apple, mint, and dried figs; meatballs seasoned with cinnamon and clove; and mini lamb kebabs. The high-ceilinged, well-lit classrooms make charming dining rooms in cooler weather. Service is unfailingly friendly and relaxed."

The food is just amazing and full of surprises. It’s not the ordinary type you can get anywhere in Greece, it comes with some unexpected taste and unexpectedly amazing! We ordered the grilled sardines, the veggie sauce for the fish is amazing, sweet and sour with tons of freshness, perfect combination with the sardines! We did not get the tables in the lovely courtyard, but sitting indoor is equally nice in hot summer.

Really nice place , their garden was very comfortable but full of children running around. Inside area is also nice , with a retro style. Food was delicious and portions were more than enough. We took a day's dish and it was amazing. Prices were ok for what you get!

The food was good. The shrimp orzo was my favorite. The vibes were amazing! Super lively, perfect for all kind of groups. Both indoor and outdoor seatings were nice. The service was also friendly. If I lived in Athens, I’d come here very often.

Our best meal in Athens. I highly recommend the handmade pasta with mushrooms. We also liked their salad and pulled beef dish. A place where locals go.

The BEST Greek salad I have ever tried in my life. So good we had to order another one. We enjoyed all the other options including the roasted aubragine that tasted heavenly, the courgettes fried balls and the rhum braised pork. With two beers 56 euros. Honest price, amazing atmosphere, friendly staff, loved it.

We had a fairly simple meal at this cute, out of the way restaurant with a large outdoor seating area and a spacious indoor dining area as well. We did not have a reservation and we were sent inside to set although it did seem that there were plenty of tables available outside. That was fine. Our server was very friendly and helpful. The food was made, nothing exceptional for some pretty basic Greek dishes. I would not need to go back to this place if I return to Athens. Probably better to go with a group of friends and get a bottle of wine and some snacks. Seems very popular with tourists.

Ama Lachei is located in a charming former school building, and the walls still display photos of students who once attended, adding a nostalgic touch. The restaurant is spacious, offering both indoor and outdoor seating, but reservations are highly recommended as it’s always busy. This is one of our favorite restaurants in Athens—whenever we have guests visiting, we take them here, and it has never disappointed. In addition to their regular menu, they also offer daily specials, ensuring you can always try something new even if you visit frequently.

An excellent setting in an old school building with brilliant, modern Greek food. We could have ordered everything from the menu and all of it was excellent. This is not traditional Greek food but modern takes on what Greece does well - simple, fresh food. Make sure to book ahead!
