Steps away from the Charlottenplatz U-Bahn stop, in a huge old building painted a 'can't-miss-it' shade of yellow, Amadeus has the distinction of being the first restaurant that we voluntarily visited twice within our first week in Stuttgart.
The menu is typical Swabian and German dishes (think spaetzel, maultaschen, wienerschnitzel) as well as some "international" dishes of pasta, hamburgers, wraps, and the like. Both visits we've stuck to the local specialties and been quite pleased. While tons of restaurants in the area serve these dishes, we both agreed that Amadaeus seems to have a bit more of a deft hand with seasoning and presentation than is typical.
They also get a lot of tourist traffic, which means an English menu upon request, English-speaking waitstaff, and yes, you can use your credit card here! (A rarity in many restaurants). The setting is just perfect - the combination of the historical site (the building was an orphanage in the 18th century) and the warm modern decor is definitely a step up compared with similar restaurants in the immediate area. A good place to take a date for casual dinner, or family that are visiting from out of town.
