Our recent river cruise was a mixed bag. Let me start by saying while we have done many cruises, this was our first river cruise. As such, we have nothing to compare it to. It was on the Provence and from Lyon to Lyon. The cruise director did a fantastic job keeping everything running. Our ports of call were wonderful and as advertised. Excursions were very good. The registration staff were pleasant and always very helpful.
General staffing was an huge issue with new faces everyday. Most very recent hires with very limited knowledge of the ship. The dining experience fell very short. Evening dinner service was chaotic, slow and very unorganized. The wait staff was very apologetic but it always seemed the kitchen was backed up. Most nights took over 2 1/2 hours (and was the only place to eat in the evenings). The food was good but basic restaurant style food. We had clothes come up missing when sent to the laundry. We also had issues getting a copy of our final invoice to review. It was never delivered the last night and wasn’t available the morning we checked out. We had a cabin credit that was never applied.
There was a consultant on board the first part of the trip so I think they know and are trying to improve. Most of the guest we talked with were “one and done” for Amadeus.
