Amana Meat Shop & Smokehouse

This place is amazing! We bought some brats, some bockworst, and a few other meats. Tried the gouda brats first and they were so good. The smoked brats were also amazing. Service is excellent!

I'm in Cedar Rapids Iowa and I will travel to Amana to get our meats because this place is phenomenally awesome! The meat here is a lot different than the stores and I'm pretty confident it's a hell of a lot fresher than the stores. Yes fairway used to be my go-to place but not anymore this is my new go to place 100% because it tastes better, Cooks better and does not give me that gut bomb like it's been out for a while

We really enjoy many of their offerings and the variety. We stock up when we pass through town. The staff has always been kind and informative. Also you can order online as well.

Excellent historic meat shop. The products and atmosphere are awesome. You need to check out the old smoke room. It's not in use any longer but it's really interesting. The smells are fantastic.

I've always been one to support local businesses,I found out about this Smokehouse because my mother inlaw won a gift certificate from here. I was under the impression they made their Brats and Smoked meats here,but when I got home,my wife was looking at the labels,she told me they were made elsewhere,I'm not saying I didn't enjoy what we bought,I did enjoy it a lot,and I will go back,I personally like it when it's made locally,that's why I gave a 3 star rating,again,EVERYTHING I bought was delicious 😋 I will go back!

Great variety smoked and raw meats, as well as cheeses. My family got their summer sausage, thuringer sausage, and mozzarella sticks. All reasonably priced and well stocked.

Our first time visiting the shop. There's a very good variety of yummy foods. We were very pleased with their meat selection and all the different preserves, pickled stuff & sauces. We will be shopping there again soon.

Love this place. So many fine cuts of meat are available. The beef jerky is crazy good. Many German items. Love the sausage and wurst selection. Jellies, jams, horseradish, and mustards. Slabs of pork belly, ribeyes and sirloin and more. I always spend way more than I planned when I come to town. A must if you are in the Amanas

Another one of my favorite stores in main Amana! If you're a vegan you can consider yourself warned... This isn't for you. Heck the sauerkraut probably had rendered lard in it (just kidding...I think). A stop in Amana IA is not complete withouth a stop here at Amana Meat Shop & Smokehouse. The only real question is what am I going to end up taking home this times...and how much of a dent is it going to make in my bank account. Lol Some staples for me are the brats of course and usually a jar of sauerkraut (you can pick of the sauerkraut that the General Store too). And then maybe some cheddar jalapeno beef sticks along with some cheese... The brats come in probably 20+ different flavor profiles. If it's not 20 it's darn close. I've never stopped and taken the time to do an official count! But if you can't find the brat you are looking for here... They just don't make it and you better figure out how to make it on your own! Long ago when I was a child in NE Iowa and we made our annual sojourn to the Amanas, this place was ALWAYS our first stop. Now I live far away but still enjoy their goods as family members pride themselves on sending and receiving gifts from here (and other colony trades on the parent website, but never mind). I recently cooked a bacon-wrapped chop from solid frozen in a pressure cooker. The chop had been in my freezer longer than it should have by conventional wisdom, but they seal it well in decent material so it still turned out delectable. It was unseasoned so I was able to dress it up exactly as I wanted. I've been gifted a lot of the more affordable cuts (read: summer sausage) as gifts from other places and the Amanas version remains a cut above. That and a block of Colby cheese shoots me back across decades. Orders have been well-packed and arrive in good order. I can't recall an error across many years, and finding one of these waiting for you is always a mood booster.

First time buyer...we ordered our Easter Ham from Amana Meat Shop and we were not disappointed. IT WAS AMAZING.

This cute little shop was great It's bigger than it looks from the outside and the parking is a bigger lot than other amana shops They sell jams, popcorn, meats, sausages, meat sticks, salami, and more They have a smokehouse on site, interesting little room to see The meat sticks were really good here. The staff is super friendly & knowledgeable We ended up picking a knackwurst, bratwurst and beef sticks but they have so many types of sausages especially of German influence. Worth a stop if you're looking for some sausages or meats to take home to cook!

My brother has sent me their meats for Christmas for a few years, wonderful quality. I told him he'd found my forever gift.

Great meat shop with a good selection of meats (bacon, sausages, etc), cheeses, sauces, sauerkraut, etc. Happily picked up several different types of sausage, bacon, cheese, and cheese curds. Thoroughly enjoyed them when cooking in our travel trailer over the next couple weeks while on our summer RV road trip.

This must be my first 5 star review. The cheese was fabulous as well as the fresh bratwurst. Went back the next day for smoked Turkey and Pastrami. Unbelievable flavors and prices. This is a don't miss food stop. Great service too!

This gem is easy to miss, but you'll be sorry you did. Now that I know it's back there, I won't make that mistake anymore. We happened to hop into their line at Wurst Fest and made a point to stop by the shop itself afterwards. It's nestled in with the residential areas off the main road in a neat brick building with a fair amount of parking in the lot out front. Immediately through the front door is the meat counter accompanied by several coolers filled with cheese curds and drinks. Up the narrow stairs to the left you'll find more grocery and novelty items. They have a large selection of prepackaged meat similar to what's in the counter and coolers up front and a smattering of grocery items featuring traditional German and local favorites plus samples throughout. Tucked far in the back corner are some kitchen utensils and small gift shop-type offerings. Definitely worth stopping in to make a special meal for the week. I recommend any of the brats, bockwurst, or cheese curds and I'm dying to try the jerky.

Why send flowers when you can SEND HAM! Thank you Amana for all you do. I have been using Amana Smokehouse for over 20 years. Bacon makes life better. I don't send flowers anymore for get well, funeral, birthday - Send HAM. When I can't find a gift- I call for Amana. My friends and family are always thrilled to receive a box of Amana specialties. AMANA boxes are always well received. Thank you Amana for always having consistently beautiful hams, tenderloins, bacon and beautiful snacks to share.

I usually order meat from this place every fall. The bratwurst and German Mustard are fantastic!!

So. Many. Options! I was not sure what to expect... but I left with a lot of goodies!! On arrival the shop does not look very big, but walking in they have all sorts of homemade goods and meat in every nook and cranny. I purchased my favorite mustard that many of the Amana restaurants use - stone ground! I also bought homemade apple butter, a package of jalapeño cheddar brats (which were sooo good; I wish I had bought more!), smoked mozzarella cheese, and of course bacon!! It was very reasonable and I know for a fact I will be buying more of my meat there!

Great locker. First thing I do when I get to the amanas is check to see if they have a Miami roll which is a pork tenderloin wrapped in steak and bacon . We loved there smoked ham and we love ordering it for the holidays.

Located a block off the main drag, this is one of the hidden gems of the Amana colonies! They're happy to provide you with a sample of some of the best beef jerky you'll ever taste and talk everything meat with ya! Upon entering, you're greeted by the meat case where the magic begins. Plenty of options are at your finger tips and they've got a number of different combo platters if you're in the mood for different offerings. We're big fans of anything with multiple portions from the same animal and they do bovine well here! Decent prices and the sort of place you go when you're looking for something a step up from the grocery store, but not quite the price of prime. As stated, the beef jerky is worth the trip and great for snacking on when you're heading back home! Worth the trip and the salt intake!

I ordered a bacon sampler online directly from the Amana Meat Shop. I'm writing this review on the applewood smoked bacon and the maple smoked bacon that I received in that sampler package. First of all, I have to say that it is the fattiest bacon I have ever seen! I would say that those two packages from Amana were at least 85% fat and 15% actual meat. (Go to their website and/or product catalog and really take a look at their bacon. As you can see, there really isn't much meat in them and these are the samples that they have decided to photograph for selling purposes!) I've bought cheap bacon at the grocery store that contained a higher meat-to-fat ratio than this bacon had. Anyway, we threw out both packages because they were just too fatty to cook up. (I thought about giving the unopened packages to our local food shelf, but couldn't consciously do that to them either.) I am extremely dissappointed that you spend so much money on their bacon and have to throw it all out. Personally, I'm going to stick with our local Von Hanson Meat's homemade smokehouse bacon or if I'm at the grocery store, I will continue to purchase Hormel Black Label bacon. Both of these brands are MUCH cheaper than the Amana Meat Shop's and contain a lot more meat and flavor in them.

If you are a fan of traditional bratwurst and sausage or enjoy smoked meats, this is the place to go. The award winning bratwurst is great, as is the summer sausage, but the real star is the smoked ham. Be it filet, whole ham, or pork chop you can't go wrong. Try a sample in the shop and pick up some sweet hot mustard to go along. The history of this place dates back to the 1850's and it shows in their perfected smoking practices.

Good place to pick up some excellent sausages, smoked pork chops, and Iowa kitsch. They always have samples of their various sausages and a couple of their snack items, so it's easy to gorge yourself a bit when you come here. I would think twice about ordering things for mail order, as the shipping rates that they charge for their non-boxed items are downright usurious. You're better off asking a friend to pick up food for you, packing it into a USPS flat rate box, and getting it faster than if you use their shipping. Of course, if you don't know anyone who lives in the area, you're out of luck.

Fantastic. Delicious meats and cheeses. I go out of my way for their sausages, bacon, cheese and oh yeah, the beef jerky! This past trip I treated myself to all of the above plus a pepperoni stick and some flavored beef sticks. My only regret is I didn't buy enough! Do yourself a favor and stop in!!

This local business founded in 1855 has amazing chops, steaks, jerky and mustard. Well cured and juicy meat can be a beautiful thing. When it comes with a smile it's even better. If you are Carnivorous it's definitely worth a stop.

Try the Pit Ham!.....slow smoked flavor, slightly sweet. They can custom cut to your taste, I prefer shaved to sliced for sandwiches. The Mesquite Turkey is great too!

I felt like I walked into happyland when I entered the Amana Meat Shop. Just inside the door, you can find a butcher counter, filled with fresh beef and pork products. Then you walk into the room to the side, and find even more meat paradise. The meat shop has even more pork products for your consumption, like sausages, brats, hams, bacon, etc., not to mention snack food, German specialties, cheese, Amana-made condiments, fresh baked breads and buns, and poultry. Everything there is locally produced (save for the imported German stuff, obviously). They also have a small dairy case with Anderson Erickson goods and Mill Stream beverages. The customer service can't be beat, and they'll even pack your stuff in a small styrofoam cooler to take it on the road with you.

The meats... oh man... The German Style Mustard... swoon! While everything looked and smelled delicious, I got a small ham and 2 jars of the German style mustard. The mustard has a great kick to it - almost like horseradish and I can't wait to make a sandwich with that ham and that mustard. As to the service, there were 2 very friendly, outgoing ladies working behind the meat counter today. And they both offered to walk me behind the counter so I could get upstairs with the stroller to see everything else and try the samples. And while I can't wait to dig into that ham and mustard, I really can't wait to finish them so I can come back here for more deliciousness.

Went on the hunt for a lower fat option for ham during Thanksgiving. All I can say is OMG the ham is absolutely fabulous! I made my own "Sweet Holiday Sauce" and cooked the ham in it. Purchased the boneless, fully cooked, spiral sliced ham and like their other hams, very little gristle or fat which made for a much tastier and better chewing ham. Although the fat does help keep it moist, it is kind of a yucky mouth feel so this ham was over the top better than all the others and I've tried tons like Honeybaked. I also bought their "jerky and summer sausage ride-a-long". The jerky is OMG awesome also though VERY salty and the husband loved the summer sausage. I purchased all in October for November and was able to pick the date which worked perfectly. I also called them to verify and they were very helpful. If you live in the states and want some great meat, try Amana!

One of the best places to experience the Amana feel. Excellent meat selection, a fair amount of old world foodstuffs, and some free samples to whet the appetite. Outstanding mail order offerings for holidays!
