Amanfayun

"Located in the bamboo-filled mountains above Hangzhou, the rustic 42-room Amanfayun, Amanresorts’ second in China, is actually a conversion of an entire village whose inhabitants once harvested the tea for which the town is justly famous. Bisecting the resort’s grounds is one of the village’s original thoroughfares, a stream-lined cobblestoned path that’s today traversed by not only hotel guests but day-trippers walking to and from the temples that dot the area. The concept aside, what’s really remarkable about Amanfayun is its restraint: The landscaping is natural, even a little wild; the signage is minimal (perhaps too much so—you’ll need a flashlight for nighttime strolling); and the 42 accommodations—once houses—with their stone floors, cloth-and-wire lantern lights, and subdued palette, are stunningly spare and sophisticated. Along with jettisoning tired design clichés (you’ll see no silk fans or red lanterns here), the hotel also upends traditional notions of what a resort should be: There are no TVs, no electronic locks. In their place is silence, stillness, and, visible from some of the rooms, the breathtaking sight of thirteenth-century bodhisattvas and Buddhas carved into the nearby cliff. Amanfayun’s only shortcoming is its overly shy staff, who march around in uniforms that are unfortunately reminiscent of Mao jackets and whose English skills run the gamut from barely existent to just adequate. The resulting stilted service toward Western guests is a regrettable barrier to what is otherwise a transporting experience."

A unique hotel in a beautiful location within the old Longjing tea village. The hotel grounds are within a large and tranquil wooded area very close to the Lingyin temple. It’s about a 20 minute drive from west lake and is such a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of Hangzhou. ||The villas are very traditional but with modern Aman styling which works really well. We only stayed 1 night but would have loved to stay longer because we were so comfortable and peaceful. ||We tried the restaurant, spa, pool & also breakfast which were fantastic and would really recommend. We particularly enjoyed the local Hangzhou specialties for breakfast. ||The staff were all so friendly and welcoming, really helpful & nothing was too much trouble.||We would love to stay here again, but for much longer next time!!

First time in Hangzhou, Amanfayun made the trip planning very easy. I had day trips planned with the hotel, with private tour guide & transport (very convenient). I stayed in the Deluxe Village Suite - antique feel, spacious for 2 adults, comfy bed but didn’t like the dim lightings. Hotel was just next to Lingyin temple, very good to visit but super crowded on a weekday. As the hotel allowed access to non-staying guests, there were random people walking around the premise visiting the restaurants or hotel. This didn’t feel exclusive for me. Hotel service was impeccable, buggy rides within the premise were a plus. |Food at Tea House & Hangzhou House were fabulous - food was abundance & served in simplicity (highly recommend).

Amanfayun lies in a pristine feeling lush wooded and birdsong filled valley, the villas and restaurants laid out in a long row along a stream, like a recreation of an ancient village. Everything is green, serene, luxurious and calming. The staff are all friendly and helpful and the service immaculate. Request the services of Tony Tong, a good English speaking guide for the temple next door. Overall a highly recommended hotel which will make you love Hangzhou.

Tucked away beside the ancient Lingyin Temple, Amanfayun offers a rare kind of stillness — the kind that seeps into your spirit. This serene pool, framed by centuries-old stone walls and lush bamboo groves, feels like a place where time dissolves. It’s hard to imagine that just beyond the trees lies bustling Hangzhou. Here, the only soundtrack is the rustle of leaves and distant temple bells. “Above, there is heaven; below, there is Suzhou and Hangzhou” — Amanfayun embodies this old proverb with effortless elegance. More than a hotel, it’s a sacred pause. Every moment by the pool, under dappled light, feels like a return to something ancient and essential.

Impeccable location for Hangzhou! My soul got soothed upon arriving the resort, a stark contrast from the hassles elsewhere in the West Lake area. Great getaway for those who are interested in experiencing cultured lifestyle and who love traditional Chinese culture. Was amazing to join the monk-led chants of Yongfu Temple early in the morning and enjoy Amanfayun’s tea gardens.

I was asking the staff about how to reach the bodhi restaurant, the staff was so unhelpful eventhough they spoke english. They said the bodhi is not belong to them. They were rude and show attitude when I ask if there is any buggy to reach there, cos my mom is already fragile. They thought I was asking them to send me. I used to call my self Aman junkie, I was considering to stay here, but I am glad I dont. I have stayed in so many aman, and this property show a good example on how they treat outsiders. I got very disapointed.

An EPIC place in the middle of nature, Ideally to come to rest. Perfect located close to the temples and the tea plantations. The staff deserves a very special shout out! To the amazing GM Enwei and his charms, to Nancy who will always have a special place in our heart! We will be back!
