15 Best Luxury Resorts in Bali and the Indonesian Islands - AFAR

"An architecturally refined resort near one of the region’s great archaeological sites that channels Javanese monumentality through a crescent of suites around a bell-shaped rotunda and a long emerald-hued pool; suites feature elevated platforms, garden-set bathtubs and some private pools with sweeping views of volcanoes and nearby temple ruins. The property offers culturally immersive programming—private visits to the nearby UNESCO temple with an on-site anthropologist, temple trips, guided treks, antiques excursions—and sophisticated spa and ritual-based wellness rooted in Javanese traditions." - Kathryn Romeyn

Amanjiwo (Yogyakarta, Central Java) 1 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The simple fact that it’s an Aman resort high in the hills of central Java would be enough for most people, but Amanjiwo, it turns out, offers something a bit more otherworldly than the trademark Aman cocktail of clever design and world-class luxury. The views here are that much more sublime: for Amanjiwo looks out over not just acre upon acre of dense wooded valley, but a thirteen-hundred-year-old Buddhist monument as well." - Tablet Hotels

I first visited Amanjiwo with my family back in the early 2000s, and even then it left an unforgettable mark. I returned again in the middle of the pandemic, and the magic was still the same — timeless, serene, and almost spiritual. Amanjiwo is not just a resort — it’s a sanctuary, an experience, and pure magic in the heart of Central Java 🌸🌿. Nestled in a natural amphitheater facing Borobudur, it feels eternal, with breathtaking views of the Kedu Plain and volcanoes on the horizon. 🏡 Design & Rooms: Inspired by Borobudur, the limestone suites blend Javanese tradition with understated Aman luxury. Private pools, serene gardens, and open-air pavilions create a cocoon of peace and exclusivity. 🍴 Dining: Refined Javanese flavors meet international favorites, with fresh local ingredients. Dining by candlelight overlooking rice fields is unforgettable. 🌟 Experience: From sunrise at Borobudur to temple excursions and wellness rituals, every detail is curated with soul. 👩‍💼 Service: True Aman style — intuitive, discreet, and deeply personal. The team anticipates your needs before you even realize them.

Stayed at Amanjiwo for 2 nights back in August. Everything from the villa itself, the location, the food and the staffs were top notch. I had plenty of small requests from here and there and they were handled perfectly. Probably the best resort In Java island… This is my second time at an Aman property (and first time since more than a decade), can’t wait to try out other Amans as well! The only downside of the stay is that it was too short!

A hotel with a great atmosphere, overall reaching Aman standards. However, at the standard check-in time of 2 p.m., the room was still not ready — something I did not expect to happen at an Aman hotel, which was disappointing, sspecially since we arrived before 10 am and had already informed the hotel of our flight details. Also here every staff member is trained to remember our itinerary, but they seemed to lack internal communication. We received reminders from four different staff members giving us a different departure times for an activity, which left us very confused.

Incredible experience -loved every minute. The pool in particular is truly a work of art, between the beautifully landscaped trees and the architecture. The food is delicious, and they offer thoughtful touches like meditation, lectures on local culture and a delicious afternoon tea with local snacks. The view of the Borobudur temple, while distant, is breathtaking. Highly recommend.

i kid you not, this place has a resident anthropologist, spiritual healers, wide expansive views of the Borobudur, and incredible thoughtfulness put into every element of the hotel. The service is a bit less professional than I expected and its smaller than I thought it was going to be, but if its off-season and lowered price, stay for a night or two

Loved the hotel, beautiful and calm vibe. Its next to the biggest Buddhist Temple in the world. One disadvantage, I am not a muslim and waking up at 4.40am to a prayers call is something i did not appreciate.

Beautifully appointed resort, plush furnishings & decor. We had a most relaxing stay there. Food was tasty; compliments to the chef.Tucked away amid the hills ,in a valley often veiled in mist- it was magical.Service was par excellence all the way from front office to housekeeping, to amicable staff at meal times; nothing was too much trouble. It was the same with their drivers, especially one whose name sounded like 'Ngayang'( sorry if I've got it wrong)- he was also our guide on our kedu Valley tour as well as early market tour. He was most obliging & fitted in visits to some local cottage industries such as coconut palm sugar making & noodle making. A suggestion though to encourage more seniors to stay at this resort ..is to find ways to ease the stair climbing around the resort, getting from room to dining area. Bath/ showers could be fitted with grab bars for safety. All in all a most exquisite stay. Thank you all for your attentive care & service.

Amanjiwo has some of the best hotel staff in the world. Everyone was passionate, wholesome, funny and genuinely some of the friendliest people we have met. They made sure you felt right at home and are well taken care of all the time. From airport pickup, to excursions, hotel restaurant to the pool, there will always be someone looking after you, be it cold towels, cold water or a simple greeting with a question "is there anything you need'. This makes all the difference to us. Additionally the whole area is beautiful and the hotel architecture itself is stunning. Food is pretty good for an Aman, and the drink list is actually very good too, thanks to the hotel manager Eddy here, whom we have met at Amandari last year and have now relocated here. The uncle pak bilal dinner was the best dining experience we've had with Aman so far, delicious food with local music in a stunning house. The lecture with the resident anthropologist Patrick before the borobudur tour was very educational and informative. We also did the Menorah hill hike which was a good workout. The In room spa afterwards was also a special treat - we both had great massages. We would come back to do the other temple tours and the volcano hikes. This is undoubtedly one of the best amans and one of our favourite Amans so far together with Amanoi.||p.s. we stayed in the borobudur pool suite. while the borobudur temple is quite distant, we would still recommend this room type. Think of it more as a open rice paddy view, and you can see rice (/tobacco/pepper) farmers working from your room.
