The Best Hotels in Bodrum, Turkey

"Scattered among the hills of the northern coastline and just four minutes from the beach, Amanruya’s distinctive stone pavilions peek through the trees, extending its refined brand of serenity to Bodrum’s most discerning visitors. Guest pavilions are sprinkled across the grounds, with spacious interiors that nod to Turkish architecture—all graceful concrete and terrazzo arches. At the Anatolian restaurant, Executive Chef Omer Ozkan serves up his take on traditional Turkish dishes, such as homemade lamb and beef steamed dumplings doused in tomato sauce and garlic yogurt. The spa is a main drawcard—this is an Aman hotel, after all—with a focus on ancient healing traditions blended seamlessly with contemporary wellness practices. The pervading sense here is one of ‘mindful indulgence’—everything at Amanruya has a purpose, a key role to play in creating its guests’ bespoke experience, away from the cacophony of the world outside."

Amanruya

"Thirty-six seaside cottages connected by winding paths and hidden courtyards on the Bodrum Peninsula, known for its dramatic views and high-style clubs. High Anatolian culture mixed with subdued Aman taste. The flat-roofed single-story stone cottages are simply and elegantly furnished."

A Magical Stay at Amanruya I recently had the pleasure of staying at Amanruya, and it was truly a memorable experience. From the moment I arrived, I was taken by the natural beauty and calm atmosphere - it's a quiet, hidden gem surrounded by nature. The staff were amazing - warm, kind, and genuinely attentive. Every interaction felt thoughtful and personal, and their attention to detail made the entire stay feel seamless and special. Whether it was a friendly greeting, a helpful recommendation, or the way they anticipated our needs, their hospitality was exceptional. The property itself is stunning—elegant architecture, beautifully maintained grounds, and private villas that offer both comfort and privacy. Every corner of Amanruya invites you to relax and unwind. If you’re looking for a serene escape with world-class service, Amanruya is the perfect choice.

A wonderful place to stay! The architecture blends beautifully with the natural surroundings. The pine trees and stone walls provide each pavilion with maximum privacy. Our private pool was incredible, we could soak while enjoying a breathtaking view of the Aegean Sea. The service was top-notch as well. You can truly feel the genuine and heartfelt hospitality, especially from Oya.

The property was stunning, and the dining staff was attentive. However, disorganized management and frequent issues—such as poor airport arrivals, non-English-speaking chauffeurs, and billing errors—set it apart for all the wrong reasons. Among the Amans I'd visited, unfortunately this was one of the worst.

Visited Amanruya in May 2024, spent 2 nights in a Pool Pavilion Garden View. This was my first experience at a Aman resort and wow what an introduction. I've been to many self-proclaimed luxury and high end hotels before, and not only was I blown away by the incredible architecture and natural beauty of this hotel, but the amazing and ever attentive service that goes well beyond any other luxury chain. Every detail of the hotel is well-thought out and the property is truly a tranquil, idyllic paradise far removed from the bass thumping party beaches of Bodrum. It was a pleasure getting lost in the winding paths between each individual villa surrounded by beautiful olive and cypress trees. I loved spending evenings with a tea or espresso in the tower-like library overlooking the entire property. I never quite figured out how to open the windows there which was unfortunate as it got quite stifling during the warmer days. Golf carts are available to take you to the private beach club, but I much preferred taking the brief walk down. If I really had to nitpick, my only disappointment was the Japanese restaurant on the property. To be fair it's no surprise the quality of fish and Japanese dishes in Turkey is not up to the same lofty standard as the rest of the resort.

We booked a year ago for this place and were incredulous that within three weeks of our arrival date they cancelled our booking - totally mercenary move, they acccepted a private buy out of the whole resort and blew off all their confirmed bookings! we've used the Aman brand in the USA but never again - they are chasing the $$ and have no regard for delivering true service to their customers.|There was no option for "should have gone May 2025 - minus 10 stars" or would have given that rating

We came to Amanruya for only dinner. 2 options Sushi or Mediterranean. We picked Sushi in the main restaurant. Unfortunately we went there to see sunset but restaurant with outdoor sitting has no view of sunset which was opposite direction. The restaurant and hotel is very low and almost has no view. If you like nature and meditation this is for you, if you like seaview and beautiful sunset this is definitely not a place for you. Coming from US for this specific location to try was an experience. Very expensive experience (knowingly) the prices are 3 times more expensive than US best Sushi restaurant in NYC. What we had in this restaurant is 3 rolls (2 vegetarian) and glass of wine, water and lemonade. The total was 292 Euro’s. This would have been $100 in NYC’s best sushi restaurant. Again, very very very expensive and no views. Great staff, amazing architecture. They even washed our car while we ate. Amazing service. But the food is crazy expensive in Turkey.

I’m writing this because I’m genuinely shocked at the number of negative reviews about Amanruya and wanted to offer an honest, non-emotional, and constructive perspective. As a guest, I believe it would be unfair to let prospective visitors be deterred from this property based on some of the criticisms I’ve read. We stayed at Amanruya at the start of the season and had an incredible experience. Some reviews mentioned flies but we only encountered a few bees at dinner, nothing serious and we were never stung. Given the natural setting, some presence of insects is expected but it never affected our stay. For those sensitive to this, I would recommend visiting early or late in the season. We were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary upgrade to a Partial Sea View Pavilion which was a lovely gesture. The room was beautiful, the turndown service excellent and the staff warm and attentive. The layout can be a little tricky at first but the team was always happy to help. One of the first people we met was Oya who was with us throughout our stay and made us feel very comfortable from the start. Hamza, the general manager, was hands on and ensured we were comfortable and that any queries were promptly addressed. We truly appreciated the calm, understated luxury of the property and had a wonderful time. A standout moment was when the head chef personally came to our table to introduce a special sauce he had created for our meal, a thoughtful personal touch. Thank you to Oya and Hamza for making our mother and daughter trip so memorable. We felt cared for from beginning to end and would return without hesitation.

On June 4th, 2025, we visited Amanruya Restaurant as a party of four to celebrate my mother’s 60th birthday—a very special occasion for our family. Unfortunately, the experience we had can only be described as disastrous.||Shortly after being seated, we were overwhelmed by a severe insect infestation. While we tried to fend off the swarms of bugs, we also sought assistance from the staff. The server responsible for our table informed us that we were not the first to experience this issue and that all guests had been facing the same problem. This statement clearly indicated that the management was aware of the situation but chose not to inform guests at the time of reservation.||It is only natural for guests to expect a flawless dining experience—especially when paying a considerable amount at a globally renowned brand like Aman. This is even more true when the occasion is as significant as a milestone birthday. Instead, we found ourselves battling insects that were getting into our clothes, completely ruining both our comfort and any enjoyment of the evening.||When we inquired about pest control, we received inconsistent responses—first being told that spraying was insufficient, then being told that the issue was due to the restaurant’s forested location. The shifting explanations made it clear we were being brushed off.||Although we had come to enjoy an elegant evening by the poolside, we were eventually forced to move indoors due to the unbearable conditions. This marked our third table change of the night.||While we were discussing our frustration among ourselves, the Food & Beverage Manager approached our table and, in an astonishingly unprofessional and rude tone, told us, “If you’d like, you can leave.” At that point, the evening was entirely ruined.||Coming from a family with seven generations of experience in the hospitality industry, and as someone who has always upheld the value of customer satisfaction and professionalism, I have never encountered such discourteous treatment. Such behavior is completely at odds with the Aman brand. That a senior staff member, presumably over the age of 40, would take guest feedback personally and respond with passive-aggressive remarks reflects a deep failure in training and leadership. Rather than protecting the brand’s reputation, such individuals damage it.||By the time it was past 9 PM, given the location’s remoteness, we had no alternative but to finish our meal there. However, due to the upsetting experience, we chose not to cut the birthday cake and simply requested it be brought out with the bill. At no point did anyone apologize, nor was any gesture made to rectify the situation.||Just before we were about to leave, the Assistant F&B Manager came over and spoke to us for nearly 15 minutes—yet still failed to offer a single apology. Instead, he explained that the F&B Manager had taken our private conversation personally and had therefore told us we could leave. It goes without saying that, in the hospitality industry, especially at a managerial level, there is no place for emotional reactions to guest complaints. If this person is not the owner of the restaurant, his reaction was unwarranted; and if he were the owner, he wouldn’t have said such a thing in the first place||In the end, neither he nor his assistant showed any willingness to apologize or make amends in any form.||What may have been just another evening for your team was, for us, an incredibly important and irreplaceable occasion. Sadly, it was completely ruined.||For all these reasons, I would like to express that the experience we had fell drastically below the standards one would expect from a world-class brand like Aman. I strongly urge a serious review of this incident in terms of both personnel and guest relations, and I trust that appropriate action will be taken to ensure such treatment is never repeated.

Yelp
(Please note, this review is from my experience at AMANRUYA in August of 2019. I forgot to post this and just noticed that it was being saved as a draft.) My favourite place ever: AMANRUYA. From the minute you arrive at AMANRUYA you feel special. You are greeted with a drink and cold towels and taken to reception. I immediately noticed the beautiful stone work which took years to create. Every pebble you walk on was hand placed. I don't think any photos I've seen of AMANRUYA capture how beautiful and warm feeling this resort is. The architecture is serene and understated yet also magnificent and magical. It's important to know that the terrain is hilly and that there are many small staircases to climb. I recently had knee surgery and it was a bit difficult for me, but I was happy to have the exercise! Hamza the front office manger, showed me some more accessible rooms that are close to the entrance and told me that they can pick you up in a golf cart and easily take you to the dining room and pool if mobility is a problem. They have a secret way of circumventing the steps. The rooms are huge and they were kind enough to put an extra single bed in the room for me as I was traveling with a friend and I didn't want to share a bed with her since we both snore! The bed is huge and comfortable. My favourite part is the curtain that you can pull all the way around the bed which makes you feel like you are sleeping in your own private cloud. I have to admit that it makes a great backdrop for doing shadow puppets so I couldn't resist putting on a show and my friend in the single bed had a good laugh. I love sparse minimal design, but the room could really use a Turkish Kilim (rug) on the floor to give it a bit of life and to make it feel like you are in Turkey. The rooms feel empty, like they're missing something. Hamza organized for Engin the kilim carpet vendor to come to the resort to show me some options because I'm super picky and wasn't happy with anything I'd seen in Turkey up to that point. I sent Engin a photo of what I was interested in (which was a more subdued 1950s colour palette) and Engin came with a whole stack of carpets to show me. He lent me three carpets for the duration of my stay so that I could see I I liked them. There was no pressure. The Kilims redecorated my Aman hotel room and wow, what a difference they made. The room came alive, it was an astounding difference. I think it would be great if the rooms all had a Kilim it took the room from great to perfect! Hamza was there for us whenever needed. Anything we could think of, Hamza had a suggestion or a solution...really fantastic. Hamza organized a day trip for us on a traditional wooden Gulet boat that Bodrum is known for. We spent the day touring the Aegean near Bodrum. What a magical experience. The water was really warm and the sea is so salty that you bob around like a cork. We had a great time and swam to shore at one of our stops. The most hilarious part of the day was when I waved at a speed boat that was zipping by. The boat made a sharp turn and came over to us...I thought that they were coming over to say hello, but they were selling ice cream. What a fantastic treat out in the middle of nowhere. It was an unforgettable day and I am so glad that Hamza suggested it. It's important to address the mosquitos, since someone else in a previous review had complained about them. I was there in late October which is the high season for mosquitos and I had very little trouble with mosquitos. I am a person that is allergic to mosquitos and I am usually the one that gets all the bites. Yes, I was bitten about 6 times, but the bites were tiny and not very itchy. For me the mosquitos at this time of year are not a problem at Amanruya. They were active right as the sun was setting and against my better judgment I sat outside during tea time. So here is my criticism, and I notice that I am not the only person who has noted that the food really needs improvement. I hope someone from AMAN reads the reviews, because it has been repeatedly commented on by previous guests and no-one seems to have done anything to improve the food. Breakfast is great. All Turkish breakfasts are usually great, but their traditional MENEMEN which is made of eggs, tomatoes and peppers was by far the best that I had in Turkey. The breakfast servers are far superior and much more friendly than the servers at night time. Sitting at dinner you need to notify staff that you are there. If you don't you will be sitting for a long time. Not only was the service at dinner awful, one of the waiters had a terrible attitude and on top of this the food was not great either. In fact it was mediocre, bland and uninspired and we ate three dinners here. Guests expect the food at an Aman to be incredible. The food should be equal to the architecture and the location which is incredible. In this instance it was not on par at all. What a disappointment.
