Visited Amanwella with my clients and had a wonderful experience. Amanwella is a truly peaceful luxury retreat. Stunning beach views, beautiful design, and very attentive staff. Perfect place to relax and enjoy nature in total privacy.

🌸 SUPPORT LOCALS NOT BILLIONAIRES 🌸 Pleased to see I wasn’t the only one taking issue with the lengths this hotel has gone to to privatise Silent Beach. Security staff will make a point to chastise any beachgoer seeking a shred of shade or, if it’s dark, terrify unknowing people with BLINDING police-grade lights. Are your guests really so much better than everyone else that people, even locals, can’t walk within 3 metres of them? Are they so special that you have to treat other beachgoers like criminals? To the manager, spare me your copy-paste reply saying you adhere to the rules. Maybe you do but I’m sure the regulations aren’t enforcing that you treat everyone else on the beach the way that you do. Foreign money has allowed this company to come and take over this beach and rather than integrate, they have chosen to disregard the genuine, friendly and welcoming culture that is upheld by every other hotel and business surrounding this lovely beach. I take no issue with the security staff themselves, I’m sure they are only doing as instructed and trying to make a living for their families while the higher-ups of this company glut themselves on the profits of exploitation. This resort company is literally owned by a Russian billionaire!!! There are hundreds of locally owned beachfront hotels in Sri Lanka! Please support locals, not this pretentious, exclusive monstrosity! ❤️❤️❤️

This hotel is easily one of the best I’ve ever stayed in. With only 28 villas, it feels incredibly special and exclusive. The architecture and design are breathtaking think Renzo Piano or Frank Lloyd Wright, it really feels like you’re in a museum. The villas are gorgeous, with beautiful wooden paneling all around. The staff is friendly and attentive, making sure every guest is well taken care of. But my favorite part? The 40-meter pool that overlooks the beautiful stretch of beach. It’s just perfect. Thank you, Aman, for such a memorable stay!

This hotel speaks ethics but acts otherwise. Also the beach is not their private beach. Under the Coast Conservation and Coastal Resource Management Act, no individual or hotel can legally own or restrict public access to a beach. It belongs to the locals.

Our stay at Amanwella was lovely. We really enjoyed our 6 night stay and would be happy to return. To be honest there are things which need improving and I think these are well documented already on reviews. The property is dated and needs some updating. Don’t expect a brand new sparkly finish. The hotel certainly does have character though. We ate out a lot because we wanted to explore the area and cuisine. The hotel is very happy to organise a local friendly tuk tuk for you at a reasonable price and also book restaurants. The driver will wait at the restaurant for you so you don’t have to worry about trying to organise another one to take you back. Our driver was fantastic and extremely friendly. I would really recommend doing this if you want to explore and have a change of scenery. The staff are extremely friendly and they are amazing with young children. In particular Deshan was extremely helpful and even insisted on ensuring our stay was fantastic when he had to take a day off sick. The general manager Morton is very attentive and took the time and effort to address any feedback we had. He went above and beyond to make our stay as memorable as possible so happy to give 5 stars for that alone.

Our personal butler Jeewan was very polite and helpful. The location of the swimming pool is fantastic with amazing sunset. Their disadvantage is that they don't have a gym, only a yoga class every morning at 8:30.

This is a review of the hotel and unfortunately it is very negative. The hotel is trying to forcibly claim a public beach and treat it as private property, which is completely unacceptable. They should stay within their own boundaries and not interfere with a space that belongs to everyone. This is the first time I have seen such behavior in Sri Lanka, and it is very disappointing. I fully support other reviews advising people not to support these actions, not to book rooms, and not to use booking platforms for this place. Additionally, the beach itself is not impressive. It is very difficult to walk on, with lots of shells mixed into hard, heavy sand, which makes it uncomfortable. For this reason, I cannot recommend the beach either. Overall impression: average at best and not worth it.
