Horrendously rude and aggressive hotel staff. I was sunbathing on the public side of the beach and one of the hotel security guards approached me as soon as my fiancee went for a swim and started to harass me. I was alone and he kept asking me whether I was available and would I marry him. Despite telling him I was in a relationship he continued to stand over me trying his luck. Whilst this was taking place, a huge wave took all our possessions which led to my camera breaking. The security guard did not appear to care, did not help me retrieve our things but instead continued to ask whether I would marry him. I ran away to find my fiancee totally shaken by the encounter. When we later went to complain to hotel management, they were very unhelpful and not at all apologetic. The hotel staff really ruin this beach. I strongly urge female travellers to stay close to others on the beach so no one has to face this harassment in the future from these guards. The hotel made it quite clear they did not see a problem with their staff and failed to reimbursement me for the broken camera which was their fault. The way they dealt with this incident from their own employees was disgraceful.

My only notes would be that they need to work on being welcoming to the local taxi drivers upon arrival, everyone should be treated with respect. A slight issue with the hot water not being entirely reliable for our showers but other than this the place is beautiful and the staff very friendly and helpful

Absolutely disgusting actions by hotel. This hotel has security guards all over the beach which completely spoils the feel. What you don’t see in the photos is they own practically all the back of the beach where the palm trees are, accompanied by aggressive signs saying no trespassers and more security guards. THEN!! They fumigated their property, which sits directly on the beach where all the public were sitting. They did this at 5:30pm when there were still many members of the public watching the sunset. Considering tourists have died in the last couple of days as a result of fumigation in another part of the country, we were absolutely appalled!! No respect for the beach or public! Spoiled a beautiful beach.

Our stay at Amanwella was absolutely flawless. From the welcoming and highly attentive staff to the impeccable service in the restaurant and spa, everything was perfectly orchestrated. Kerry Hill’s architectural masterpiece, maintained to the highest standards with recent renovations, retains its timeless elegance even after more than two decades. The serene design, breathtaking infinity pool, and stunning beach created an unforgettable experience. Amanwella truly captures the essence of luxury and tranquility.

We had an issue with the general manager and our driver and the hotel I think managed poorly. The GM insulted our driver and forced him to leave the premises while he was waiting for us, making us have to leave the premises on a separate hotel transport to then get in our car with our driver. Our first night the room pool drain was making loud noises and didn't let us sleep. Food is okay but too expensive for what you get. The hotel is still very beautiful but leaves much to be desired.

The thing that makes Aman unique is the staff some of whom become friends.|The entire team at Amanwella went out of their way to help make our trip extraordinary.|The highlight of our visit was a surprise and very private beach side dinner planned without us even knowing by Piyumi. She delivered one of the most memorable experiences that we have enjoyed in nearly 40 years of travel.|Thank you Piyumi, Mahesh, Nirosh, and the entire Amanwella family for a wonderful experience. You are the best

Beach: 5 Service: 4 Hotel: 4 Food: 3 Room: 1 Our 4-night stay was kind of a mixed experience, but definitely the most disappointing out of the 5 Aman properties we have stayed at so far. When your beach resort vacation unexpectedly turns into a safari… Will start from the best: Beach - the beach was very beautiful (albeit public), although the waves were huge and not suitable for kids. The pool was basic but nice. Service - our butler was very attentive and detailed-oriented. The other guest-facing staff members were also friendly, but not the most efficient. We did find it challenging at times communicating in English with a few of the staff. But we score this a 4 instead of a 5 because the cleaning staff seems to leave the sliding doors open for the mosquitoes to come in. Hotel - the design aesthetics are top notch, very beautiful. But the property is on a hillside and requires riding tuk tuks to get around— especially for elderly guests. And sometimes the tuk tuk don’t show up as requested. The hotel could do having a gym. Members of our party also enjoyed the spa. Food - surprisingly bad for the price. Only one restaurant on site plus the beach club. The private bbq on the beach was nice, but lots of bugs. Room - not the nicest villa, leaving lots to be desired. The ocean facing deck is nice, but too many bugs to really lounge around there. The small pool is more of a breeding ground for mosquitoes, in my opinion. The rooms is a basic studio with a partition between the sleeping area and the bathroom area. The biggest flaw is that there are mostly sliding doors facing the ocean and the pool, with gaps at the bottom for bugs to crawl in. Hopefully it is by now clear that insects INSIDE THE ROOMS are the biggest problem with this hotel. We have found inside the room one scorpion, two grasshoppers, one centipede, a few spiders, mosquitoes and ants. The last three wanted to get cozy in our bed. Dead spiders and grasshoppers need the Mr. Wolf treatment before ants come to dispose of the bodies. By the pool, we have also seen frogs, monitor lizards, geckos and mosquitoes— they were lovely except the mosquitoes, but as I said, the problem was with the bugs inside. You know it is bad when you start checking inside the toilet bowl and under the seat before sitting down. Not to mention spraying copious amounts of mosquitoes repellent on the comforter and around the bed, and cranking up the A/C so we can sleep while fully covered, yet still get 1-2 mosquito bites each night. In long sleeves When you stay at an Aman, and pay for an Aman, you expect all the details to be taken care of. This was not the case with Amanwella. The only upshot is that I had never seen a scorpion before!
