Amapondo Backpackers

After a very stressful day on the road we managed to make it here by 8.03pm. As the kitchen closed at 8pm we thought we were in with a chance of at least a snack. But they flatly refused us. Such a shame as the place looked really nice, just the staff who don't appear to care.

Me and my partner (Australian) have travelled all around Africa and to date Amapondo lodge is up there as the best! We felt very safe, great food, accommodation and sea views. They also have a great backpacker with many large rooms with proper beds. Amapondo is one of the best lodges I have seen in Africa… it’s very clean, and the staff are all so nice. I met the owners as well who were just fantastic people. Depending on your budget, this place has higher end to backpacker accommodation. There area offers a lot of natural beauty and activities like exploring the airstrip (amazing views), beach, swimming, fishing charters, surfing, kayaking which is probably more than most other places I’ve visited.

George (the owner) was incredibly friendly and helpful. He recommended the Seafood Paella which I was very happy I tried! Wow!!! that was by far the best Paella I have ever had.

Natalie,a great caring host.The property is fully secure with gated access.The rooms,bathrooms,kitchen sre all spotless.The staff are all friendly and chatty.A really great spot Natalie..you can be proud.I walked and swam at the beach- second beach,lovely.I felt safe and at ease as I explored the area of second beach.Looking forward to my next visit soon.

The food is amazing. Big ups to Chef Buhle. We enjoy his food so much. We go there even if we not booked there for his amazing fresh tasty food 😋😋😋

Cool place run by amazing people. We were camping with a beautiful view, a stones throw away from the beach. They were so helpful with everything. We went on hikes they suggested, and they also took us on an adventure to the Kraal and into the mangroves that our car would never have reached. Thank you so much for our stay, and the amazing company. Would 100% recommend 👌

Great place would recommend it if you need a place to rest in Port St John’s. We ended up at the backpackers quite unexpectedly, we were looking for a beachfront lodge and we were guided to Amaphondo. There are ensuite bedrooms, very clean that meet all the basic requirements of travel. Very friendly host and great service and food in their restaurant. Would recommend it for travelers going through Port St John’s

It's always nice to go there, food is good, people amazing and it's just the best place to go to on the wild coast.
