3 health-focused retreats to visit around the globe - SilverKris

"Located on Cape Panwa at Phuket’s southeastern tip, this was the island’s first luxury resort with an explicit wellness focus. Spa facilities include ocean-view treatment rooms, a beach-facing yoga pavilion and a hammam that blends Thai and Turkish approaches; signature features include a salt-relaxation room (a salt cave with a fine salt mist) and mud therapy using either mineral-rich Hungarian mud or Moroccan clay. Guests can book day retreats or three-, five- and seven-night packages aimed at functional health, with activities such as yoga, meditation and wellness talks. (Access: fly to Phuket; about a 45-minute drive.)" - Vanessa Tai

Amatara Wellbeing Resort was such a great choice for me and my partner. The staff were super welcoming, and we were amazed to receive a bottle of wine as a welcome gift (this comes with any suite booking) — such a nice touch! Our room had a gorgeous ocean view with a private pool, and the main infinity pool was also amazing — so big and beautiful, perfect for relaxing.||The gym is well equipped with Technogym machines (my fave!), and the spa was the absolute highlight. We did the 90-minute massage and it was incredible. Definitely recommend!||We had such a wonderful stay and would love to come back.

The staff were quite nice and helpful. The villa, pool and views from the villa and everywhere in the resort were amazing. Such a peaceful place for a relaxing vacation. On the other hand, food and drinks were on the mediocre side. That includes the breakfast buffet (had very limited options served everyday) and the lunch/dinner served at Scene restaurant as well as room service food. The drinks (non-alcoholic) at the pool bar were low quality. They had Halal options everywhere though, which was very convenient. While I understand geckos are part of the echo system, I didn’t anticipate seeing them inside the villa’s bathroom while I was always making sure doors weren’t left open.

Still our favorite resort :) We're back again already currently enjoying our holidays with Amatara.||Ms. Joy has kept in touch with us while away and welcomed us back kindly once again. We are so happy to see her again! Familiar faces with their courteous service has always made our stay very leisurely and relaxing with zero stress.||Having been traveling heavily, we know exactly what we want this trip and picked the sea view suite without a private pool, it doesn't feel like a downgrade at all compared to pool villas. Bedroom is in the same layout and size as the pool villa, large with plenty of space for work, lounging on sofa with a balcony to enjoy the breeze and view.||Our room is right in the central zone beside the Spa and infinity pool, making it a lot more convenient.||As always, the best spa in Phuket we feel is still at Amatara ❤️ Happy to be back 2025!

We stayed in a Bay View Suite which was spacious, elegant, and very comfortable. The bay view is very beautiful, but a little noisier than the ocean side. We could see the Big Buddha on the mountain top from the balcony and it was perfect for my morning yoga. There is a large yoga studio and a well-equipped gym too. Although the resort is a little older, it’s very well maintained. There are several quiet spots around the property to relax and take in the stunning views. We especially enjoyed the two infinity pools and the small private beach, which was peaceful and overlooked throughout our stay.Breakfast was fantastic, with lots of variety and a great view, bird watching too. Sadly, I fell sick, but the hotel staff were amazing, and they even have a qualified hotel nurse. A special thanks to the manager, Top, who really lived up to his name. Our only regret was not booking twice as long. We definitely plan to return.

We loved our meals while staying at Amatara for 6 nights - we had plenty of choice (which meant we didn’t struggle to pick something new - although there were a few favourites). ||We were only commenting this resort has very highly trained staff that remember the small details! During our stay we were served by Jane, Nam, Sun and Kim. ||Compliments to the chef - best pad see ew and tuna tartare we’ve had on the island! ||We will be back for sure.

What a first class resort in one of the most beautiful locations I've ever seen. We had a private pool villa which was absolutely beautiful. Our fairly large, private infinity pool overlooked the bay. The room was very comfortable. The service was beyond excellent. Everyone greets you with a warm smile & goes way beyond to accommodate your every need. I hated to have to leave paradise but plan to return again to the Amatara.

I originally gave this place 5 stars because of the staff - especially Ryan, Natty, Pix, and Oui - however amending to 4 stars as there was a whole lizard in my room tonight. ||This place is gorgeous but there have been too many inconveniences. My first room had a leaky roof and so they switched me to an upgraded room. This room had drainage issues requiring a parts replacement, issues with being able to lock my door requiring the engineering team to adjust the bolt, and more. ||The staff was great and offered me a complimentary several course dinner for my troubles, which I appreciated - hence the 5 star review (originally). ||However, my final straw that’s led me to change from 5 to 4 stars is that there was a lizard in my room tonight. Not sure if staff leaves my door open when cleaning my room or refilling the mini fridge but I literally cannot sleep with the idea of there being lizards in the room. ||In conclusion: The staff is great (zero complaints about the staff!) - especially Ryan, Natty, Pix, and Oui and the views are gorgeous. So if you can cope with the potential of lizards in your room, then you’re good.
