Arriving at the restaurant around 13:10 without a reservation February 17, 2025, I was welcomed with great hospitality. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and well-prepared, ensuring a seamless dining experience. Their familiarity with the menu was commendable, as they carefully explained each dish with enthusiasm.
As a welcoming gesture, the restaurant offered a complimentary soup (Caldeirada de Tambaqui) as an appetizer. The flavors were deeply rooted in the Amazonas culinary tradition—rich, balanced, and full of authenticity. A well-executed start that set high expectations for the meal.
For my order, I selected Costela de Tambaqui with Asian sauce, Croquete de Pirarucu, and a jar of Graviola juice.
The Dishes
• Costela de Tambaqui with Asian Sauce
Unfortunately, this dish was a misstep. The essence of Tambaqui was overshadowed by an overwhelming amount of chili, which did not complement the fried rib. The bold flavors clashed rather than enhanced the natural taste of the fish, making it an unbalanced and, ultimately, disappointing experience.
• Croquete de Pirarucu
This dish, however, was a redeeming moment. The croquete transported me back to the Amazonas with its authentic and well-balanced flavors. The fish was present in every bite, the frying technique was precise, achieving a crispy exterior while maintaining a soft, flavorful interior. It was a dish that reinstated confidence in the meal.
• Graviola Juice
Simply put, perfection. The juice was refreshing, naturally sweet, and a delightful complement to the meal.
For the main course, I ordered Pirarucu with Banana da Terra Frita and Grilled Cheese.
While the concept of combining these three elements is intriguing, the execution fell short. The dish ended up being excessively dry. The banana, while well-prepared, failed to provide the expected moisture to balance the plate. Additionally, the use of lemon on the pirarucu seemed to exacerbate the dryness rather than enhance its flavors. Each component was well-cooked individually, but together, they lacked harmony, leaving the dish with a textural imbalance that diminished the overall experience.
Final Thoughts
The restaurant delivers a high-end atmosphere with impeccable service, a well-curated menu, and an evident commitment to Amazonas flavors. However, not all dishes met the same standard. While some were outstanding, others suffered from an imbalance of flavors. In the case of the Tambaqui with Asian sauce and Pirarucu with Banana da Terra Frita and Grilled Cheese, the excessive use of lemon may have contributed to the dryness of the fish, making the overall dish less enjoyable. Each element was well-prepared individually, but together, they lacked the necessary harmony to create a cohesive and satisfying experience.
Would I return? Yes, but with a more selective approach to the menu. The potential for an excellent culinary experience is there—it just requires careful choices.
