Ambiente Hotel Freieck

I have just come to end of a lovely trip in Chur. This hotel has been ideal. I needed somewhere close to the station as I had booked a trip on the Bernina express|It is really so charming. Its an old building set in the beautiful cobbled streets of the town. |Everyone is so welcoming...from the lady in reception all the way to the ladies that take care of breakfast.| My single room was perfect, and the bed was really comfortable. Unfortunately I had to be out of the room early a couple of mornings so I didnt get the chance to take advantage of the comfort . The shower was great, a real power shower and no loss of hot water or pressure during use, which is always a bonus .| Breakfast was very enjoyable with lots of choices, hot or cold, and if you are lucky enough to get a window table you get a perfect view of passers by going about their day.| Just a few minutes walk from the main station, passing plenty of shops if thats your thing. Also just a few minutes from a Migros supermarket.| I would definitely stay here again if I visited Chur again.|

Reasonable sized rooms all nice and clean when we arrived but then let down by the servicing. We had to chase other first day at 5:30 pm to get our room serviced!|A decent breakfast buffet in a nice, airy dining room.|Two big downfalls. |A totally inadequate and unreliable lift which is not much fun if you are on the fourth floor.|A bar which does not take card payment, only cash.

Not overly impressed with the Hotel or staff. Upon arrival, the Lady who was working the bar and reception was not welcoming or friendly. To access the elevator you have to go up a short set of stairs, which for anyone with accessibility/mobility issues isn't practical. Our room was on the 3rd floor. We were given a set of keys..one for our room and the other for the rear entrance to the hotel that we were told to use after 10 pm as the main entrance was closed at that time. Our room was a quadruple, with 4 single beds, which were comfortable enough. The decor was underwhelming, old-fashioned, and very basic. The kettle in our room had a note stuck to it saying it was broken! ( why didn't they replace it with a working kettle?), there wasn't a fridge or any tea/ coffee facilities either. The room was also extremely hot. There was a fan in the corner of the room which was dented on the side although it worked. We went down to the bar area in the evening, which was lacking any atmosphere. The furniture was a hodgepodge of outdoor fake wicker seating and other pieces that weren't cohesive but quite tacky. The same Lady served us and again had no personality, made us feel very unwelcome and quite an inconvenience. Breakfast was included, again all of the staff were very unfriendly and breakfast was very disappointing with a small selection. I would NOT recommended this hotel nor would I ever want to stay here again.

Positives first. Excellent location, clean, good shower and water pressure. Comfortable bed breakfast good until you read the management rules! |Agree with sentiment, careful wording would have got message across.|The hostess sadly is unfriendly and unhelpful. There is no warm atmosphere in the bar or breakfast room. Came with a group so we all made the best of it. Faulty towers comes to mind.

Lovely family run hotel. Staff friendly, very clean and nice large comfortable room. Good choices for breakfast and there is a small comfortable bar. I would recommend this hotel

This place has character, is simple but clean and includes a nice buffet for breakfast. Staff are friendly and the bedrooms have basic amenities which are fine.|The location works well for the train station and there are places to eat nearby for lunch and dinner.

I stayed overnight in Ambiente Hotel Freieck with friends after travelling down by train from Paris via Zurich and then Chur. We found this hotel a delightful stay before catching the Bernina Express in the morning. They serve a fantastic breakfast as well. I would be happy to stay at this hotel again.

Good, clean hotel located in the old city, close to railway station.|Big rooms and excellent buffet breakfast including continental and Eggs and bacon.|Very handy for an overnight stay particularly if you’re arriving/departing by train.

This hotel is absolutely fabulous. It is walking distance to the train station and in the heart of the old city center. Wonderful restaurants within walking distance. Great breakfast and very clean rooms with all the modern amenities. The owners are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They have operated this hotel for thirty years. They speak several languages, including English. You will not be disappointed staying here!
