Clean, comfortable rooms and friendly landlords. Located on a quiet street within walking distance of restaurants and shops. Well maintained grounds. Owners made sure we had everything we needed (including fresh ground coffee) and graciously accommodated our late checkout. Thanks for making Medora so welcoming!

I made the reservation over the phone. I was NOT told that smokers were not welcome when I made the reservation. I didn't read the entire text confirmation but it said "no smokers". Most places don't permit smoking in the rooms. We arrived at Amber Inn about 6 PM. I was NOT told at check-in that smokers were not welcome. I unloaded two bags and my wife and I headed out for a ride through Roosevelt National Park. We returned about 8:45 PM and I went to get a pizza. My wife went to the room to use the bathroom and then outside to have a cigarette. The owner started screaming at her about smoking. My wife apologized and immediately put out the cigarette and returned to the room. The owner then came and knocked on the door and told my wife we had to leave immediately. She was very rude and told my wife she stinks and didn't want my wife's person stinking up the room. My wife said she was unaware of the smoking policy and that she would not smoke at the inn. Owner said she didn't want smokers staying at her inn and that we had to leave immediately. Owner said my wife knew smokers weren't allowed and showed her the text confirmation sent to me. My wife has an old flip phone and does not text. She never saw the confirmation sent by the owner. The owner then texted me and said we had to leave immediately. I got the pizza, returned to room, got our bags, and we left. Needless to say, my wife was very frazzled over the entire incident. We are in our late sixties and this is the first time we have ever been kicked out of a hotel/inn. The owner said she would not refund the room fee. Now I am wondering how many other people have been scammed by this place.

After a long drive from Rapid City, SD we were so pleased that everything about The Amble Inn and our hosts exceed our expectations. I loved the western decor and everything in the room seemed new and fresh. Medora is such a fun place to visit even though we were there on a "working vacation".

We were traveling during the Wuhan Covid19 crisis and before Memorial Day so we called ahead to make sure we could get a room. Our plans were to tour Theodore Roosevelt National Park South Unit and roam around town. She let us know the town was just getting going opening up and we’d have a tough time finding a place for breakfast. Although a couple of restaurants are open for lunch and supper and she said the Hitching Post was open. (I wanted to buy a trinket while I was there.) I bet that town is a hoot when it’s up and running full bore. As it was, we really enjoyed the park, we hiked up to the top of Buck Hill, saw the wild horses, bison etc... Oh and we loved the bed! Soo comfy. Yes, the room (#1) was small, but we had choices to sit on three different kinds of chairs or plop on the bed. TV was small, but it worked for us. We asked for ice and she brought it right to our door. The location was perfect, we walked the town, took a photo with the statue of Teddy and found the geo cache. The statue of the Marquis de Mores needs a good rain, so no photo there, but a nice park with deer in it. We loved our stay and wow, the history there! Maltese Cross Cabin. We’d go again.

We planned on spending 3 nights in Medora to explore Roosevelt natl park. After checking in we walked over to a restaurant for dinner. I decided to have a cigar on the back patio of the hotel. || After about 15 minutes a woman came around the corner and in a stern voice informed me that "there is no smoking on our property inside and out. The smoke is coming thru our screen door" I apologized and left the area to finish my cigar. When I returned, my wife (who was in bed) informed me that someone was knocking at the door. She did not answer as she was not dressed. A few minutes later there was a knock again. It was Mary with 2 other people that may have been her daughter and son? She informed me that we were to vacate the room immediately and we would forfeit lodging fees for that night and the next. She indicated "I am sick of you smokers" I was in shock. I asked if there might be other lodging in town and she said the closest lodging was likely in Dickinson 30 miles away. She showed me a copy of the lodging confirmation E mail sent to me when we reserved the room 30 days prior. It did say the grounds are non smoking. When I received the email and did skim thru it and did not remember not to smoke outdoors at the hotel. We were forced to leave, drive around and find a room at 10 pm at night.||||If you read most reviews for the Amble Inn they are great. Take the time to read the bad ones. It seems to me there is a pattern. I am now forced to fight for a refund of $443 thru the Visa dispute system and we were forced to change our vacation plans because I forgot not to have cigar on the property of a very crabby owner. ||||BEWARE THE AMBLE INN

In the middle of Medora, everything at walking distance. On arrival we received a very friendly welcome by the owners. They showed us our room which was great. Nice room with queen bed, airconditioning and bubble bath. Separate large bathroom with spacious shower. Breakfast restaurants close by. At night you do not hear a thing. Loved our stay, would stay here again.

If I could give this place 6 stars I would! Everything about the Amble Inn is very welcoming. Doug and Mary are amazing people and very kind. They also have a bookstore right next to the inn. The room itself feels like a modern cabin with accents of pine and has photos on the wall representing the history of the area. Everything is very clean and well kept and quite spacious. There's coffee ready to be brewed which will be an amazing addition to the beautiful mornings here in Medora. The bathroom is very clean with a beautiful tiled shower. I can talk all day about this place but to keep it short, if you're in Medora, passing through, or visiting Theodore Roosevelt National Park, stay at the Amble Inn. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Wonderful Mom and Pop place for those who want to avoid the chains. Best western book store anywhere. Nice hosts.

Yelp
Just what two touring cyclists needed after a grueling day of intense North Dakota headwinds! Upon arrival we were graciously permitted an early check-in, and our sweetheart hosts warmly remembered us from a phone call the previous day. Best rate we found in Medora -- bit of a tourist trap town if you're into that kinda thing, and it's a great means to check-out the neighboring gem Teddy Roosevelt NP. Coffee maker, spacious room (enough for our bikes!), fridge, DIY included laundry, table, comfy bed, sweet shower. many thanks!

Yelp
Doug and Mary run a great inn! It's clean, has all that you need for a night in Medora, comfy beds...and they are the nicest people that travelers can encounter. They run the coolest bookshop in addition to the inn and parking is right there. Great place, great people!

Yelp
Wonderful hospitality and great hosts!!! Seriously the best smelling room ever, super clean, convenient but quieter than the bigger local hotels. Very helpful. Gas grill and picnic tables available as well as small refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. Reasonably priced! Not super fancy but perfectly homey and comfortable!!! We've been traveling all over ND and so far my favorite overall value and spot

Yelp
Be careful! Make sure you check your room for any damages before moving any of your belongings into your room. Over 2 hours after we check out we get a text message with a pic attached of a small hole behind a door that had been fixed several times preciously. They charged our bank acct $50 for damages that she states she had not charged previous people that stayed in the room. (We turned around on our trip to see the damage and talk to them in person. The man was not around.) The wall had a small hole in the paint/drywall that had happened from the lock that sticks out past the door knob itself. Since damage had happened previously, (and fixed several times previously) why did she not install a door stop? She says she did by placing a sharp jagged rock behind the door to stop it from hitting the wall. (We have our own pic of the rock and hole). Who does this? This is normal wear and tear that happens when proper equipment is not installed. Other than this our stay was very nice. We only dealt with the man (Doug Ellison) when checking in and when buying books. We complimented him on the room and the shower. I asked his advice about a good book for my grandson, etc. It was Mary Ellison we dealt with about the room damage. She sent us a text that was not nice and very accusing. This is shady and completely unjustified. We have no proof that this did not happen previously. If we had done that we would have talked to them. But as I stated, you can clearly see in the pic that this has happened several ttimes.Anyone would think that a rock was there to hold the door open for moving stuff in, rather than stopping a door from hitting a wall. A door stop cost less than $5. This is not the customers responsible, iis the owners. Clearly having no door stop stalled says they were not worried about the wall when you can see several attempts to fix it. How many other people are going to be charged, or have been charged, for this same hole? So put a damn door stop in and treat your customers with some respect when issues arise. Don't wait so long to text them. This seems like they were just hoping we were too far away. But as I stated, otherwise it was nice looking and comfortable. Just stay at your own risk. We will not be back because of this.
