The lodge's greatest asset is its fantastic location, just minutes from Amboseli National Park and with stunning views of Mt. Kilimanjaro on clear days. We thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food, particularly the fresh Kenyan vegetables and fruits. The majority of the staff were warm and welcoming, which made our stay pleasant. However, the experience was marred on our final day when a staff member insisted we leave a positive review, which felt inappropriate and pressured. Furthermore, the accommodations are in serious need of an update. The rooms are very dated, featuring decor and a style that feels stuck in the 1990s.

We stayed 2 nights at Amboseli Sopa Lodge and it was one of the most awesome stay. The lodge was beautiful and the welcoming party was accommodating. Rooms were cozy , wide and had good hot water pressure for us to shower after a full day Safari. |Buffet food had a full range of varieties catering for vegans and non vegans. Local, Indian and international food was always available. |The icing on the cake was when Mount Kilimanjaro showed him magnificent self to us. We were indeed very fortunate. Thank you Amboseli Sopa Lodge.|Highly recommended

I am writing to express my disappointment with my recent stay at your hotel from September 8-9, 2024. While the hotel grounds are impressive, I was very dissatisfied with my overall experience. One of the main issues was the size of the compound and the lack of communication. With 83 rooms, the property is difficult to navigate, especially for first-time guests. It was concerning that there are no phones in the rooms, forcing guests to walk to the reception for any assistance. This was particularly problematic after dark when my family and I got lost and spent 15 minutes trying to find our room. It took another 10 minutes to return to the reception desk for help, as we were unable to find any staff patrolling the grounds as we had been told. We then had to wait to be helped by a staff member who seemed reluctant to assist us. Later that night, we experienced a power outage. There was no communication from the hotel about the situation, and we had to contact our agent to find out what was going on. It is unacceptable that guests were left in the dark, with no information or assistance from staff, during an electrical issue. Additionally, the room we stayed in was in need of refurbishment. The bathroom walls showed signs of neglect, and the lighting was poor. This was a stark contrast to the images on your website. We also received no information regarding scheduled trips or activities during our stay. The advertised night security patrols were not visible, which raised concerns about safety. As a guest, I expect a higher standard from a reputable hotel chain. I urge you to address these issues promptly. Improving your communication systems, updating the rooms, and ensuring staff and security are accessible would greatly improve the guest experience. I look forward to your response regarding these serious concerns.

Amboseli Sopa Lodge was the first destination of our Kenyan Safari. The lodge is located right outside the Kimana gate which is quite helpful to reduce the drive time to/from the gates and maximising on the time in the park. They have two types of accomodations - tents and rooms in more stable structures. We were in one of the tents quite far away from the bar, restaurant and the reception. |The tents are quite big and well furnished and the facilities provided are more than adequate. The decor could do with an update though. |The bar has a decent selection of alcohol which is not overly priced. The restaurant serves tasty food with a variety of options (veg and non-veg) and the main attraction here is the watch tower which gives you amazing views of the property and if you are lucky Mt.Kilimanjaro too! |The lighting in the restaurant and bar could be a little brighter which would elevate the overall vibe. The staff across departments are quite friendly, service oriented and have a small on their face. Special mention to Moureen who was taking care of us during all our meals at the restaurant. |Some of the wildlife we saw during our stay - zebra, mongoose, waterbuck, monkeys.|One suggestion - Please provide slippers in the rooms as the floor gets quite cold in the evenings and at night.

They only provide 1 bottle of water, which is not even enough for drinking, let alone brushing teeth. You need to put at least 3 bottles per person in the room. I asked for more but they didn’t bring any. They don’t even provide any water during lunch/dinner. Just insist you to buy drinks at the bar for extra. Room is definitely 2-3 star especially the bathroom shower head is tall and not very comfortable. Food is acceptable. 70% of food stays the same and the main dish changes. Oxtail and roti is good, they don’t know how to cook stew meat so their stew beef is always undercooked and too chewy Massage is $170 for 90min. If you are going to price everything as a 5-star hotel your service needs to be like a 5-star hotel. Cheaping out on your waters is unacceptable.

This place is magical! A beautiful combination of rich history and modern amenities. The on-site restaurant buffet was stocked with everything you could think of for each meal: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. What's superb and the setting and atmosphere made every meal enjoyable. the rooms were set up like separate bungalows, so you felt as if you had the opportunity to almost mimic tribal housing scenes.. however, beds and bathrooms inside were 5 star hotel status. each of the rooms had their own personal sitting porch, so you could be outside and enjoy the scenery in the gardens, fans, and mosquito nets for each bed are provided, hot showers stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body, wash, and even robes for you to wear on your way to the spa on-site. The staff were polite and helpful and actually looked happy to be there and serve! The oppotunity to meet the Masai village and Safari is the best part!

Amboseli Sopa Lodge was one of the lodges and camps that we stayed in on a 19 day safari through Kenya and Tanzania, booked through Tapestry of Africa. This was the second Sopa lodge that we stayed in.||It’s a big property, on expansive grounds with a large variety of accommodation. We stayed in a small standalone bungalow, number 45. It was towards the rear of the site just below Hemingway’s Bar. The history of the bar was explained by the wonderful head barman Emmanuel.||We stayed here for two nights after crossing back into Kenya from Tanzania. ||Greeted by an absolute giant of a Masai who always had a laugh with us. The staff were all excellent. Always smiling. They genuinely looked like they enjoyed working at the lodge. ||We arrived as lunch was about to begin. The buffet at Amboseli Sopa was the best we saw at any lodge on our tour. It was huge. An amazing variety. The lodge is large, and the dining room gets very busy. There’s a huge fireplace in the middle that would be very cool to see alight.||Our room was really cute. I called it the hobbit hole. It had plenty of room for the two of us and our bags. Readily accessible power points meant it was easy to recharge phones, cameras and netbook. The bathroom was small but functional and you had to give the shower plenty of time to get hot water. Very comfortable queen size bed. I’m sure two men in a bungalow with one bed raised some eyebrows amongst the staff but at no time did we feel uncomfortable. At no time did we as gay travellers ever feel uncomfortable in either Kenya or Tanzania.||I think the lodge dates to 1984 and apart from some of the fittings in our bungalow it could have been built yesterday.||We didn’t make use of the pool or pool bar but it was a beautiful area. We did use both the main bar and Hemingway's. Both were excellent.||The lodge faces Kilimanjaro and is a 20km drive from the gate into Amboseli. ||We loved our two nights at Amboseli Sopa Lodge and recommend the lodge if you are travelling to Amboseli National Park, either on an organised safari, or as an independent traveller. Wonderful smiling staff, great accommodation, great food, beautiful grounds, vervet monkeys everywhere and a view of Kilimanjaro. An unexpected bonus was the historical association to Ernest Hemingway.

Travelled over 5 hours from Voi after going to the Tsavo East National Park, arriving at the Amboseli Sopa Lodge was like arriving at an oasis. The lodges are set in acres of tranquillity and calm and the food that is served is amazing. I had a head shoulder and back massage given by the lovely Jane and I was ready for the evening. Jane’s massage was heaven and she was able to get me so relaxed after the 5hrs drive that got my Garmin believing I had walked 12.5k 🥰 we are only here for 2 nights, but I might try and fit in another massage with the lovely Jane as they are opened till 9pm. How amazing is that. I cannot fault anything at Sopa Lodge, the swimming pool is very clean, the lounge is tranquil and the staff are happy to do anything to make your stay very pleasant. I would recommend this place even without doing Amboseli National Park as it’s so lovely but the Park will be an added bonus as you can’t go all the way to Amboseli without visiting the park. What can I say about the view of Mount Kilimanjaro even thought you have to go to Tanzania to climb it, the view from Amboseli Sopa Lodge was enough for me. I also forgot to mention the vervet 🙈 🙉 🐵
