We were on the way back home and got detoured off the highway, well I'm glad we did because we spotted this gem of a diner. This place has been open since the 1960s and the atmosphere is amazing, very nostalgic. The waiters are very nice and the food was made in great time, no long wait. The pancakes with real vt maple syrup was great, the sausage gravy with biscuits is also homemade. The food tastes like homemade classic dining which is what i expected. I highly recommend getting off i87 in new york to visit this amazing diner.

My wife and I were up early in the neighborhood and decided to a diner. So happy we came here. I ordered the Farmers Omelet with whole wheat toast and orange marmalade. Breakfast as it should be. Delicious.

Google
This. Chrome, glass, and neon diner has plenty of parking and plenty of seating. Is located conveniently close to I 89. I had a Gyro, which was stuffed with lamb. And the sweet potato fries on the side or among the best I’ve had. The white staff were professional and were hustling. But, I didn’t see any of them being very friendly. I’m not sure if that is a management expectation. But since the place wasn’t busy, it would’ve been nice if someone had taken a moment to say "hello" and "welcome" instead of just asking "what do y’all want?"

Google
This was such a beautiful diner. Everything was clean and staff was friendly. There's a lot of items on the menu to choose from. But we just stopped by to grab a strawberry milkshake so maybe next time we can try something else. The seats were comfortable to sit on as well

Driving from PA to VT, stopped here for lunch halfway through our trip after a Google search. I wanted breakfast for lunch, so I was looking for a diner. Server's English was not great, so it was difficult ordering a "make my own" omelette, and I did not get the Rye toast that I ordered. The "fruit salad" was very sad. For a diner, at least what I'm used to in NJ and NYC, this was disappointing.

One of my favorite places to eat. Food was very good and service was very quick and friendly.

Google
Ordered the crispy chicken sandwich special. Cam with soup. Had the chicken noodle. Both the soup and sandwich were excellent. Service was snappy and polite. Diner itself was dated, but that's what I like about diners. It's like stepping back in time. Would definitely eat there again.

Alright, folks, buckle up your taste buds because Ambrosia Diner in Catskill, NY, is serving up a slice of pure, unadulterated joy! From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with that classic diner charm – think cozy booths, the clatter of happy plates, and the friendliest staff you could ask for. Let's talk about the food, shall we? Oh. My. Goodness. They're slinging out comfort food that'll make your soul sing. We're talking fluffy pancakes that melt in your mouth, burgers stacked high with all the fixings, and crispy fries that are just chef's kiss. And those milkshakes? Forget about it! Creamy, dreamy, and utterly delicious. But it's not just the food that makes Ambrosia Diner a must-visit. It's the atmosphere! It's like stepping into a time capsule of pure, unpretentious happiness. The service is lightning-fast and always with a smile, making you feel like a regular even if it's your first time. You can tell they genuinely care about making your meal an experience. If you're looking for a spot where you can get a hearty, delicious meal without breaking the bank, Ambrosia Diner is your place. It's the perfect pit stop after a day of exploring the beautiful Catskill Mountains. Trust me, you'll leave with a full belly and an even fuller heart. Don't miss out!

Yelp
First time ever coming here. And I have to say it definitely surprised me. The staff is very friendly and the food was exceptional. The large portions and very decent prices. I love the old school diner look. It also has a very nice parking lot. Next time I go to Walmart or anywhere near this diner I will stop in for another bite to eat. I'm telling you like going back in history with great food

Yelp
Legit diner! I was stuck in Catskill and the only good thing about my day was to go to this diner- Very nice ambiance and service. Loved their food- Their prices are sooooo good and their menu is splendid. Tried their omellete and french toast which were awesome- so was their country breakfast! Would defo recommend this place if in town.

Robert A.

Yelp
The kind of place you'd like to like. Food is good for the most part. Speed of service is good. And it feels like a diner should feel, with smell of coffee, bacon and other good stuff. But man oh man, be prepared for the servers constantly at each other, shouting about this or that, or loudly complaining about you name it. Who would go there and look forward to that behavior? I've been a few times when I'm in the area, and somebody's always in a bad mood. I don't know if this is a chain or whether there is somebody running this place, but if I do go back, I'll settle for good food and hot coffee. Is that too much to ask? Who knows.

Yelp
Had car trouble on a trip to the Cooperstown area and had to stop at the nearby Advanced Auto Parts in Catskill. We stopped at Ambrosia for brunch, desperate for some classic diner food and were not disappointed! This diner is as old school as they come and I enjoyed it immensely. The Lox eggs Benedict was scrumptious and the perfect combo of salty and smoky and rich. I also had a "side" pancake and I put that in quotes because it was bigger than my head! It was perfectly cooked, light and fluffy. We loved that they had pineapple mimosas (as they're my favorite) and they were so refreshing!

Yelp
Decent diner that is neither over the top nor in any way bad. Ambrosia is a regular diner with red soft seats and heaped dishes. There are TVs. The coffee is fine. The menu is extensive and dessert options are plenty. Burgers, salads, fries are all very fresh and not dry. There is no Maitre'd. The plates are large and you'll get your buck's worth.

Yelp
I don't go out to eat often, but when I do there is a certain expectation of quality of food and service. I am not expecting anyone to genuflect, but common courtesy should prevail. Unfortunately, this is the third and last time I will eat at Ambrosia Diner (I figured try them again they might have had a bad day. I ordered scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes and rye toast. Based on my previous experiences I asked the waitress to make certain the bacon was fresh and crisp and the meal was warm as my previous experience was not good. Her answer to me was "I don't know how to put that on the computer". One would expect that is the way it should be served. I received my meal. The bacon looked like it had been re-heated and was old the potatoes were mealy and the eggs were lukewarm and the toast was not rye nor was the butter trying to melt. I called the hostess over and told here I wanted freshly cooked bacon crisp. She looked at me as if I had two heads shrugged and took plate. When it came back the bacon was not fresh, (it looked like what i returned) was cold and the potatoes and eggs were warmed up. When I checked out I spoke to the manager who did not even have the decency to stop what she was doing and look at me but promised to talk to the chef. Well if the chef cared at all he would have had enough pride to not serve food that way. The same goes for the waitress and the hostess, Although not directly responsible the waitress could see the food was not cooked well or then again maybe she did not care, and the hostess never came back to ask if everything is better. I can understand places are busy or someone is having a bad day, but to not fix a problem or to pretend not to understand is unthinkable. When I go out I would like to have a meal that is cooked at least as good as I can and with a modicum of respect. In my opinion, Ambrosia's chef has no pride in their work and the management is not about customer satisfaction or appreciation or respect.

Yelp
We were passing thru town, so he decided to stop for lunch. Inside and outside, it definitely gives the diner vibe. As does the very large menu. Also, everybody was friendly, and we were served quickly. We Each decided to get the meatloaf sandwich, with gravy. We also got a side order of onion rings, and to drink we each had a chocolate egg cream. The definite winners were the meatloaf sandwich, and the onion rings we ordered the onion rings, because we didn't notice that the sandwich came with fries on the side we were still glad that we did The sandwich was so good! The meatloaf was tender and had a great flavor, and the gravy was nice and rich The onion rings had a great crunch, they tasted good, and the onions were tender The french fries, they were OK. Just standard french fries. My partner liked her egg cream very much. Me? I'm from California, so I wasn't as fond. For me, I could taste the seltzer more than I could taste the chocolate. She explained that that's how an egg cream is made Again, It was OK, but personally, I wouldn't order it again. . It just wasn't for my personal taste. The price was very reasonable, and they also gave a military discount. I would come back again. Thank you.

Yelp
Such a great diner with great food! We stopped by for lunch on our way up to the Catskills and the first thing that drew us in was the scent of french toast being made. We had a pretty big party of 8 but was seated immediately without any waiting. My husband ordered the chicken salad sandwich, my daughter got the 2 eggs with sausage and I ordered the french toast with strawberries and whip cream. I snagged a bite of the chicken salad before my husband ate the whole thing. It was a solid chicken salad sandwich without a lot of fillers. We got the 2 eggs scrambled and it was good but not as fluffy as I thought scrambled eggs were supposed to be. Her sausage patty was good but definitely go for the sausage links since you get that crispy bite from the casing. My french toast was AMAZING and I highly recommend it to anyone who's looking for a food stop!!! PRO TIP: They make all their bread themselves on premise and you can tell for sure! Maybe that's why it smells so good before you even walk in.

Amanda S.

Yelp
This is a splendid diner. Exactly what you would expect from the ambience to the food. My husband and I had no complaints. They were there to refill the coffee on the regular. I had the Ambrosia Benedict which was phenomenal. So tasty. Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
I really like their wraps, especially the chicken Caesar salad one. They have a salad bar which is great. Wonderful service and it's not that loud.

Chuck C.

Yelp
Service is crazy inconsistent. On a recent visit I sat for ten minutes, then left. Another thing I don't get is the lousy and grumpy attitudes put out by more than a few staff. Why? Food is good and the owner is nice, but wow, the mean ones create an unwelcoming atmosphere -- and I'm tired of it.

Rick W.

Yelp
Great NewYork diner. We ate there three times in 3 days. Nice to have a diner open for dinner. The menu was so huge there were 20 things we could have eaten. Did I mention we are vegetarian? Prices are very reasonable. Desserts were amazing and great coffee.

Frank Y.

Yelp
If I could leave a negative review, I would. The food was horrible, the staff was just as bad. The open salad bar was the best part of the meal, but was loaded with sulfites to keep the lettuce green. My wife and I ate here 2 days in a row, and got sick BOTH days. I suspected that the first dinner wasn't the problem, but man was I wrong! PLEASE do yourself a favor, AND DON'T EAT HERE!

Linde L.

Yelp
The manicotti gave me bad food poising, be careful when you see large menus you never know how fresh the food is.

Frederick F.

Yelp
This place looks so classic! Honestly just wanted to mention that the American flag out front looks very tired and dirty. It was a little out of place because the rest of the building looks so great.
google avatar

Stephanie F.

Yelp
Oily greasy and flavorless Everything tastes the same. Other than salads not much choice for gluten free

Sabrina P.

Yelp
As someone from the city, I was shocked at the portion sizes compared to the prices. My fiancé and I ordered three things thinking it would be only enough to refuel half our stomachs, but when the food came out, we were taken aback! In the end, we had to take two to-go boxes because we couldn't eat everything. Amazing prices. Delicious food. Amiable staff. You won't be disappointed with this place.

Yelp
I was there on the 4th of July for dinner with my mom and friend ordered prime rib and found a bug in it when we showed the waitress she just took the plate and said nothing. Then we asked for the manager the cashier at the cash register she kept saying don't speak English and did nothing. I will never return to this restaurant.

Yelp
Fast and friendly service. Good food at reasonable cost. Clean and pleasant diner atmosphere

Yelp
I never had a bad meal yet. we've been going there for over 20 years. The farmer's breakfast is awesome, and the sausage gravy over biscuits is southern food upstate.

Yelp
We had such a lovely dinner here last night. The baked scrod with crabmeat stuffing smelt amazing and tasted just as it smelled! It came with potatoes and broccoli. The breaded chicken Parmesan was delicious. The chicken was moist and crisp on the outside. Could have used a little more sauce with the spaghetti but it was overall wonderful. All of their dishes are huge! Definitely able to take it home for another meal which is always great! We got to share an "egg cream" which is a drink that my friends mother was very happy they had and we got to hear a great story of her having it as a girl growing up. The best part was dessert. You can choose from about 20 different desserts!! I decided on the chocolate mousse cake and boy did I make a good decision! Moist cake, silky smooth mousse that melted in your mouth. My friends mom got the cheesecake which she likes and said it had a lemony taste to it.

Al L.

Yelp
Absolutely horrible! I've never had bad diner food ever. Diner food is such a staple and you can never go wrong with it, well at least that's what I thought until I tried this diner. The food was literally inedible. In addition I never put salt on food I feel there are so many other spices and seasonings that help bring out amazing flavors in foods but this time I even broke out the salt shaker for any chance of trying to save this "meal." (Unsuccessful) I will literally never go back here and would never recommend this place to anyone. It is such a shame because it really could be such a great place.

Jackie B.

Yelp
I go to the diner often .It's like my second home. And the company and food are great

Blake G.

Yelp
This is usually a decent diner and whether breakfast time or lunch, I typically get the Reuben or turkey club. Went for the turkey club today and although it was fairly tasty, it was messy to eat. Place was super busy but we were sat immediately. Decent selection on the kids menu so our son had chicken fingers which he devoured. My wife had a mediocre corned beef omelette which was over cooked and under seasoned. Service was on the slow side and we had to ask for silverware and our dirty dishes were never cleared. I may sound like I have too high of standards for a Diner but they are usually pretty decent here. It's not fine dining but a multi paged menu has something for everyone. They fell short this time. Oh they have Pepsi and not Coke so that was a plus.

Mary H.

Yelp
My turkey sandwich was bland but edible. My companion's burger, ordered medium rare, wasn't even cooked on the OUTside.
google avatar

Steph R.

Yelp
This place was comically horrific. The waitress was short and rude. When she brought our plates over, she didn't ask if we needed anything except dropped them off and started talking to another person. Didn't pop back if we needed anything. Our drinks were dry when she brought our food over, when we flagged her back we got this scathing look. Made asking for more drinks difficult by acting like she didn't know what we were asking for. It was actually all really weird. Like she forgot to take her meds this morning, i'm not sure. I'd eat anywhere else in town except here!
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
Great portions and really good and tasty food! Try this place out you'll leave shocked in a good way as the dishes are excellently prepared. So much for your money and friendly service!
google avatar

Anna Y.

Yelp
After reading the recent negative reviews I was worried about stopping by but I am so glad we did! We had really kind servers, yummy food, and good prices. We ended up coming back again the next day we had such a great time! Would definitely recommend.

David H.

Yelp
The food first of all is perfect all the way around, don't get me wrong the actual menu options are mediocre at best. Even with the lack of major options it's a perfect diner in the middle of the Catskills, Definitely give them a try!!
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
Always bustling with popularity but the food and service never suffer for it. Have breakfast for dinner then try something from their extensive dessert case. I tried the Anastasia pancakes this last visit: Nutella and sliced bananas. The veggie burger and omelets are also quite good. Generous portions, on par with other diners price-wise.

Danielle H.

Yelp
sense when do you not put cheese in an omlette.the flies were really bad they kept landing on my food and head and I'm pretty sure they tried to fight me.the French toast was as hard as a rock. The breakfast sandwich was raw and did not get what I asked for. The potatoes had no flavor.

Sara B.

Yelp
Food was awful, slow service. Would not recommend this place. Used to be a good place to eat years ago, seems like it's under new ownership and server was not friendly at all. Will never go back there again.
google avatar

Stephanie N.

Yelp
We came here for breakfast after camping. Typical diner food with nice staff. Pretty affordable as well for the amount of food you get. Food didn't blow our minds, but definitely satisfied our hunger cravings.
google avatar

Ruby M.

Yelp
The outside of this diner isn't the prettiest, but don't let that fool you. My fiancé and I were taking a random road trip and after 40 minutes we ended up here. Our waitress was very sweet! The food was absolutely astounding! It definitely tasted fresh and the overall diner felt homey. I would highly recommend this place. Thank you guys for the great food!
google avatar

Louise G.

Yelp
It's a diner. Open kinda late serving warm food. It's not great. It's a diner. Desserts are sugary and some chocolately and satisfying in a guilty pleasure way. I have eaten here the chicken gyro and cobb salad. Both not great and not the stuff of happy memories, though not bad. Salad is pathetic as is the gelatinous dressing. There is no joy in the sad noncommunicative money-taker. When you're hungry and don't patronize fast food joints, this fills the bill.
google avatar

Crys S.

Yelp
I give 3 stars because I've only been here once. This is where hubby and I had breakfast our only full day in the area. My husband is a BIG fan of diners. After looking through the menu, which is a few pages, we settled on sharing the French Toast Deluxe. I'm glad we shared! As you can see from my pictures, it was a large amount of food. French Toast: 2 Giant pieces cooked to a fluffy point of perfection. Eggs: We got scrambled with mozz and had no complaints. Bacon: 2 strips, crispy, but a thicker cut then I'm used to. Sausage: Simple, but yummy. Ham: This I gave to hubby since he eats more in a meal than I do. Served with butter packs and container syrup, my only qualm is the syrup not being at least from a bottle. Those tubs have sooooo much added sugar! I stuck with butter and found it didn't need syrup. Topped off by our normal selection of iced coffee, this was a good way to start our day. The waitress was friendly. The place was very clean and kinda empty since we got there about 8A when I assume locals are busy with other things.
google avatar

Thomas K.

Yelp
As other Yelpers have mentioned, this is a pretty standard diner. No surprises here. It's good if you happen to be in the area knocking back a bit of shopping. Priced well, and good service were some high points. The food was pretty in the middle. Like this review...just down the middle.
google avatar

Renee C.

Yelp
Basic diner food but always reliable, quick and good. Homemade soups and full bakery.
google avatar

Sugar M.

Yelp
I've been here several times and on several occasions have witnessed the waitresses using the restroom and NOT WASHING THEIR HANDS! Ick!!!! On top of that tid bit of delight, the food is rarely cooked properly and the place is overall dirty. It's better than Penny's down the street but for god sakes wash your hands ladies!!
google avatar

Tate O.

Yelp
Want the same menu items with better taste? Go to the sawyer diner on Main Street in Saugerties. At the ambrosia 3 kids breakfast and one adult came to 63.00, the same menu items the next day at sawyer diner cost me 28.00.
google avatar

Deanna R.

Yelp
Had great chicken wings and a side salad which was crisp and colorful. The wings were nice size and very good. Melissa was our waitress and she was very good. The diner is always clean as well as the bathroom. I would recommend Ambrosia Diner for a good meal and reasonably priced.

Amanda P.

Yelp
Don't go here!!! Cant stress it enough. Rude staff, mediocre food. Slow service. Would not recommend at all
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
I had the roast beef club and she had the Monty Cristo sandwich Both were good. Service was good.

Ari W.

Yelp
I would give this place 0 stars if I could. I came here during a weekend trip and stopped by for some food. We arrived as a group of 4 people with diverse ethnicities and received the worst service of my life. I am not sure what the waitresses name was but she was heavy set and had glasses with short, grey hair. I ordered waffles no whip cream or butter on it just strawberries. Then I see her go off in the corner and point at our table to another waitress saying look at who she has. The food arrives shortly after and she throws my plate down in front of me and says here is your "fun less" food. I get turned off by the way she presented my food and didn't want to eat the rest. When she returns she asks if I need anything I say no thank you I'm fine. She then rolled her eyes and mumbled something as she walked away. I am not sure what her problem was but that attitude and way of speaking to us was far from professional. The food: Nothing special, find another place to eat if you want something enjoyable.
google avatar

Nita C.

Yelp
This diner is an excellent little place for a stop and go. The staff was very friendly, and the food came out quickly. I ordered the waffle, and it was a little dry, but it was decent. My dad ordered the fried fish filet sandwich and enjoyed it.

Trish S.

Yelp
I have been here on a couple occasions now and each time you are greeted quickly and from someone with a smile on their face. They are completely attentive and prompt and really friendly every time. I am always so surprised by it and by the way the food has been excellent. I've only had breakfast here but it has been consistently awesome.
google avatar

Yelp
It's a diner! Certain items are reasonable, some overpriced. For the only diner in the area, what do you expect? Lots of loyal locals, pretty crowded breakfasts, food is hit or miss, but never foul. At least there is plenty of parking around the back!! The owners, once they know your name, will greet you every time. Agreed with the other poster, sometimes the manager can be mean, especially if you're a group of younger kids.
