We enjoyed a girls' weekend at Mohican Outdoor Center in Blairstown, NJ, and had a fantastic experience. Our clean and well-equipped cabin exceeded our expectations, and the staff, particularly Christine and Melissa, were warm and welcoming, making us feel like part of the family. We savored a delicious home-cooked breakfast before embarking on a hike to Catfish Fire Tower and exploring Catfish Lake by kayak. We capped off the day with a game of volleyball and relaxation at our cozy cabin. Christine and Melissa went above and beyond, ensuring all campers were well taken care of and inviting us to karaoke later that evening. Our weekend was truly unforgettable!

Spent 2 nights/3 days in Black Oak Lodge. The cabin is well appointed and really worked well for our group needs. We did choose to have food catered through the MOC, which was great. They set us up in the lodge/welcome center with a small buffet, made sure to stay in line with our dietary/allergy needs and we also did trail lunches, which were delicious and well packed. They were not exactly as described, but we figured since it's off season for them, likely they didn't have things on hand. Not a big deal. We hiked several trails from the parking lot, and enjoyed the beautiful February weather. We will definitely be back. Keep in mind... this is in the middle of the woods - it's not a 5 star resort, but comparatively it's one of the nicer facilities we have come across.

I came for Indigenous People's weekend and had a blast at the AMC Mohican Outdoor Center! They have various camp sites and cabins near a lake. The cabins were fairly new and very clean, ours had a kitchen and fridge along with a stove and microwave, there is a community bathroom outside their rec center with warm showers and bathroom facilities. The staff is very friendly and accommodating as well as the food was so delicious! I'm not much of a camper but I thoroughly enjoyed my time here! I'd definitely recommend coming here if you're considering a quick camp site visit or a stop on the AT. They also have canoes or kayaks if you want to enjoy the lake. They also gave various fire pits to enjoy at night! Loved my time here!

We love stopping here after a long day hike. The ladies who work here are so nice and make the best home cooked food. Very inviting place to relax for a bit before hitting the trail again. Pro tip: Get the pancakes. They're delicious!

A fun place to start your hike to the catfish fire tower on the Appalachian trail. Has breakfast being served all day. Snacks and drinks to replenish your stash as you got from trail to trail.

My friend and I stayed here for 1 night it is set in stunning countryside BUT in a cabin for 4 there were no cups, 1 plate 2 bowls one of which was dirty and mostly plastic cutlery (very environmentally friendly!) There was no blind up at the door so people could see straight in (person at check-in didn't seem to care). There were no chairs to sit at our table, only 1 light was working inside and the shower area was filthy. One gents toilet was blocked and the paper towels had all gone (it was all bloodied and in the bin). I appreciate it's meant to be a rough and ready stop on the Appalachian trail but it was definitely not worth what we paid for it.

I booked a large cabin for a gathering of friends. The place was clean and well stocked, the grounds were beautiful, and the access go hiking and canoeing was a huge bonus. The staff in the lodge were accommodating and friendly. We will definitely be back!

I booked this for a friend and myself for the evening after a day at the Camp Crystal Lake Friday 13th set tour to fit in with the theme.||||Trust me - the kids in the movie had a better time.||||We knew we had to bring our own towel and bedding and that the toilets and showera were standard campsite 'shared'but there was no indication that our "cabin" would:||||1. Be part of a duplex with a poorly fitting connecting door.||2. Have a table but no chairs.||3. Have a coffee maker and microwave but no cups or plates or cutlery or no way of washing up.||4. Have no curtain or blind on the (75% clear glazed) door.||5. Be a half mile walk from the car park on a stony track (I am disabled). There was a sign stating words to the effect "Access may be allowed in specific circumstances".||||The shared bathrooms consisted of two showers, two cubicles, one sink and one urinal for all male guests. There were no paper towels apart from the ones with blood on them in the bin.||||By 7pm one toilet was blocked and one shower was filthy. They stayed this way until we left the next morning.||||After checking in and being unimpressed we went to reception and noted the lack of cutlery and plates etc. We were begrudgingly handed disposable versions of all (not great for an eco-styled business). ||||We were told that it was known there was no curtain and it was "on the list" to be fixed but no one had minded before. ||||They seemed surprised we were annoyed there were no chairs.||||I had to virtually threaten a lawsuit to be allowed to park closer to the cabin - despite there being two cars parked outside our cabin already. Being disabled didn't seem to the the right circumstances to normally park nearer.||||Whilst in reception we also noticed that there were two men in the waiting area who had been there when we checked in half an hour earlier. One of them had injured his ankle and they need a cab to their car. The staff wouldn't help them so we drove them in our hire car.||||If it had been cheap we would have made allowances. But it cost more than the *suite* we had in a 4* hotel in DC the night before...||||Too much money, not enough facilities, disinterested staff.||||Lovely location though.

Yelp
This place was perfect for my solo backpacking trip along the AT! Since I was alone I wanted to be around people and this place offers walk in campsites as well as drive up platform tent sites. It was pricey for the small rooty campsite I was given(W4.) It was $33 since I was out of state and not a member. You can easily camp along the AT but I didn't feel comfortable doing so alone. The center offers showers, toilets and potable drinking water. They also have multiple bear boxes throughout the tent sites, which is super convenient to not have to hang food or other smelly items! There is a small store and kitchen and they offer a small menu of items for purchase. The night I was there, they had storytelling/ open mic night at the boathouse. This was super fun and brought back memories of summer camp as a kid. They have a swimming beach and canoes/kayaks for rent. Do be careful near the privy by the beach. The night I was there I saw a rattlesnake on a log next to it! I highly recommend camping here! And I will definitely be back

Yelp
I went camping with friends and stayed at the platforms and brought my tent and food. They used to allow ground fires near the platforms but they changed their policy. Kayaking and canoeing in The Catfish pond is very easy and relaxing. The water is clear and at this time of the year it's also warm. The crew at the information center is extremely nice and helpful. Overall we had a great time.

Yelp
Stopped by to go kayaking on Catfish pond. Staff were hugely helpful: they gave us a map, and instructions for how to find the kayak launch. Beautiful lake. The Center also makes delicious food: sandwiches, paninis and breakfast. Had I known how great the chef and food was I would have come here every meal: but we had just discovered the place, and were leaving to go back home that day!

Yelp
Usually at this time of year in early January, I seek out some alone time, and usually I take a a cabin winter retreat, up at Stokes State Forest. But this time I needed to work on some writing (read: i needed electricity for my laptop) (and lights for working late or very early) and just didn't feel up to the work of making a fire, dragging a mattress with me, etc etc. in other words, i wanted a cheap motel, somewhere near the forest. WELL lucky me, i finally googled "hotel NJ" and dragged the mouse pointer over to the NJ wilderness that i love so much, and up popped this place! i had been here before about ten years ago, when it was under reconstruction. Here, I will let you read about it yourself: http://www.outdoors.org/lodging/mohican/index.cfm so you can make up your own mind if it's for you. WHAT I FOUND: a bright sunny clean cabin that had 6 bunks in 2 bedrooms, a bathroom with a stall shower and HOT water, a kitchen with an electric stove, oven, sink, coffee maker, and microwave. and HEAT! i wasn't using the wifi so i am not sure where you can pick it up. I happened to have the place all to myself for 3 consecutive nights. Lucky me again, plus there was a meteor shower happening, and the light show was quite a surprise. The center is in a narrow valley on a large natural beaver pond, and if you love nature, this is the place. The AMC runs programs all year round, the Appalachian trail runs right through it and this leg of the trail is rocky, mossy, and very picturesque. The trails here are some of the prettiest I have ever walked on. They also rent out canoes and kayaks. The well water tastes great! I will be back! with friends!

Yelp
We go camping every year with friends. Last two times at executive suite and couple of times at place beyond. Both spots are great. Camping ground is perfect for us.

Yelp
The pond is great for swimming and is free and open to the public. I've gone here multiple times with friends and it's been so fun. However, I backpacked 11 miles to the outdoor center from the PA/NJ border via the Appalachian Trail a few weeks back and had an unpleasant experience. My friend was badly injured and needed to stop for the night, so we decided to camp at the outdoor center (it was her first time camping). $19 each for the privilege to set up our tents on their property is RIDICULOUS. I can find for-profit campgrounds that are cheaper than that. I was seriously shocked. Plus the water-lines weren't even running yet by the tent platforms. The ladies behind the counter were not welcoming when we arrived (I had to seek them out after sitting around the common room for 15 minutes), and the assistant seemed to have no idea what she was doing. When she asked if I was an AMC member, I replied that I was, but I wasn't sure if my membership had expired (I bought it around that time one year previously). The only way she would have been able to tell if my membership was still active would to be to call someone - she basically looked at me and was annoyed that I was asking her to call to find out! Maybe I was cranky because I had just backpacked 11 miles, but her customer service skills were severely lacking. The only reason I agreed to the price was because it was supposed to thunderstorm and I wanted to sleep under an awning and my friend felt more comfortable camping around people. Long story short, come to swim, kayak - and I hear they have really cool programs throughout the year, etc - but save yourself the money and attitude behind the counter and just camp on the Appalachian Trail by the side of the road. I would love to attend some of their programs, but I'm just so turned off to that place at the moment.

Yelp
Fun Times! Rent a kayak bring a tent swim grill build fires look at the beauty of nature... Live bands on Friday.. Family FUN ALL AROUND! I like this place alot... A beautiful well kept campground right next to a lake.... Very peaceful with very reasonable rates for tent sights and cabins... There's so much to do you'd have to check it out to know for sure..... Oh and to top it all off its right next the Appalachian trail.. Camping at its finest!

Yelp
AMC Mohican Outdoor Center is a great outdoor destination. The staff and facilities are awesome. We spent seven days here with my troop conducting a mini summer camp. The staff was helpful with trail suggestions (Misty) and super accommodating and informative (Tricia). The Group campsite is great for large groups. The Rec center has a large open space gatherings, information about local wildlife, plenty of board games and bathrooms with showers. Their waterfront is refreshing for those really hot days. No complaints here! We will definitely return with family, friends and the Scouts!

Yelp
I was on an Appalachian Trail thru-hike attempt this year (2015). After reading a favorable description of the property in a thru-hiker guide book, I mailed a resupply box there, intending to tent there for the night, resupply, and re-forward my "bounce box". I arrived about sunset on August 8, 2015, requesting my bounce box, and tent space for the night. I was incredulous when told that the whole property had been reserved for a wedding that weekend, and that I would have to move on into the night and find a place to wild camp. Of course, I was very experienced in doing that, since I had had hiked 1,304 miles before arriving there. But, the issue is this: What indeed is the mission of the Appalachian Mountain Club, who owns the Mohican Outdoor Center? Despite their loftily stated goals, it obviously is merely to make money any way they can, rather than serving the needs of the hiking and outdoor community. Of course there was ample space to tent camp on the property - they own what must be hundreds of acres. They could have offered me a place in their woods to set up my tent, go through and bounce box and mail it out again the next day, but NO! The manager was adamant that the WHOLE property was unavailable. So, out into the evening I went, now carrying the heaviest pack of my whole journey because I now had the whole of my 15 pound bounce box strapped to the top of my pack, not being able to ship it forward. I must say that in the whole of my hike, this was the ONLY time I was turned away for lodging, and this was from a place purportedly to serve the needs of outdoor enthusiasts! In contrast, several small towns (Unionville, NY, Port Clinton, VA, and Glasgow, VA, to name just a few) provided free lodging to hikers at locales that they constructed just for that purpose, and several business establishments offer free tenting to hikers on their property (South Mountain Hotel in South Mountain, PA was a shining example). No, I was not looking for "free" lodging at all - I was expecting to pay for my tent site, of course. But, to be turned away by an organization that supposedly serves the outdoor community was an insult, and shows the AMC and the Mohican Outdoor Center in a very poor light. I would encourage AT thru-hikers to avoid this place like the plague - they obviously do not care about the AT hiker community. Take your money elsewhere, and let them cater to the needs of the well-heeled who can rent out the whole place to fill their coffers.
