20 Best Bangkok Hotels, From Grande Dames to Converted Canal Homes | Condé Nast Traveler

"Romantic and right on the river, this hotel’s interiors mix alligator-print leather sofas, a red swimming pool, claw-foot tubs with chrome lion feet, Thai tile work, and Chinese antiques to create an atmosphere part old Shanghai opium den, part chic Addams Family. Stepping outside I wandered the Thonburi canals—crossing small bridges, visiting Buddhist spirit houses, and seeing banyan trees—and got a taste of everyday Bangkok life, with neighbors catching up over noodles and true hidden-gem restaurants; tucked down an alley alongside a canal, the property feels like a delightful hidden discovery." - Jenny Adams

From the minute our Bolt driver tried to find the hotel I had a feeling our stay would not go well!!|Down seedy alley, to even seedier entrance. Very nice and obliging staff but the premises!! Out of the 1950’s. Right down to the lift. Has to be seen to be believed. |Have to order breakfast the day before. I think the bacon was cooked 3 days ago but the omelette was fresh. |“Balcony overlooking pool” - well, the pool had a cover on it covered by leaves!! View of shanties!!|“Private bathroom”!! Well, it is in the bedroom room but because of the glass doors (to toilet and shower) definitely not private!! |Unable to get tv channels so tried to call reception - can’t!! Made the journey down, manager came up, got it working after a while. No chanells but luckily last guest not logged out so got YouTube. Next night same deal EXCEPT, I can’t be bothered traipsing downstairs hence I’ve got to write this!!|Would be the worst hotel ever. |Will definitely NOT be back

BE AWARE!!! I would like to point out that this review is not intended to discriminate against the staff, but rather to highlight the complete lack of supervision by management. The photos published on Agoda do not reflect reality at all. I planned this trip with my mother for the first time in Asia, and I greatly regretted my choice. The pool: Upon entering, it immediately shows signs of disrepair and dirtiness. Reception says they can remove the protective cover, but the pool is right next to the drainage pumps—unthinkable. Room: The air conditioning installation in the room has not been completed, and the ceiling is a disgraceful display of pipes and concrete. The view from the room is beyond reproach. The staff lacks basic housekeeping knowledge. Towels were not changed but simply folded without knowing which belonged to whom. The toilet doesn't flush properly after at least three flushes. The bed is not made, but only the blanket is pulled up. Restaurant: Breakfast is spartan and limited. We asked for mango on the fruit plate for a week and never received it. The lemon served with tea is the same one sliced and left over from the bar the night before. We were shocked when the lady cleaning the bathrooms tried to help and served us our food with the same gloves. Dinner options are practically nonexistent; 3/4 of the menu is missing. Common areas: There's no lounge on the top floor. At reception, a sign in front of the guest sofa warns guests not to sit there because the mirrors above might fall. On my last night, the chef was away, and I had to order a Subway sandwich—a ridiculous price for the room rate. The hotel is clearly in a state of disrepair; no maintenance has been done. The staff is kind and polite, but they act a bit like they're at home; they're not use uniform, and they sleep on the reception sofas. "The fish always stinks from the head." The manager is obviously never present, and I blame him entirely for the hotel's shortcomings.

Riverview Suite... The room and hotel vibe met the expectation. Got rooftop bar called "Hidden Gem" with quite creative cocktail However, it could be maintained better -- bad TV signal, dirty fan in the lobby... The staffs are kind but not so professional.. Note that parking lot is provided outside the hotel (different location)

So basically, the room service was nonexistent. I stayed there for two days and no one even knocked on my door to clean the second day. I was looking for a photo of what the views were like and I didn’t see any. I knew from Thailand that that’s a red alert. And yeah, this is the view from the window. Also, that beautiful bathtub was leaking a lot all over the floor. I stayed in room 33. So maybe just ask if you can get specifically a nice view. For location, it is located kind of in an alleyway so it’s not really safe to walk around there at night. I didn’t feel. The good things were : I really like the decor. It looks just like the photos. And the room had Netflix.

We stayed at Amdaeng Bangkok Hotel with another couple and had a really enjoyable experience. It’s a small, quiet boutique hotel, perfect if you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city without actually leaving it. Despite reading a few reviews suggesting the pool was closed, we were pleasantly surprised to find a clear sign at reception stating that the pool can be opened on request. We asked, and sure enough, it was opened for us without any fuss. The rooms were lovely; beautifully decorated in rich red tones with a unique charm. We especially liked the freestanding bathtub in the middle of the room, which added a touch of luxury. The bed was very comfortable, and the blackout curtains were a huge plus, keeping the room perfectly dark even after sunrise. The room had everything we needed: tea and coffee-making facilities, a mini bar, and a cosy atmosphere overall. Amdaeng is a great choice if you’re looking for a quiet, stylish stay in Bangkok that won’t break the bank. We’d happily return.

We had a wonderful stay at Amdaeng Bangkok Riverside. If you book a river view room, prepare to be amazed – the view is absolutely breathtaking! The terrace by the river is stunning, especially in the evening, and the rooftop is beautiful, though oddly underused and not really promoted, which is a shame.||Some areas for improvement: the service is a bit limited, likely due to a lack of staff (no help with luggage), and a few rooms could use minor touch-ups (especially the cotton shower curtains, which could be cleaned more thoroughly).||Still, the hotel has a lot of charm, with unique decor and a peaceful, one-of-a-kind atmosphere. A great spot to enjoy a more tranquil side of Bangkok.

We stayed for 5 nights on a 3 week trip around Thailand, with two friends in another room. We arrived after dark & were a bit disconcerted about the approach -- down a shabby narrow lane and then having to walk the last 30m which was too small for a vehicle. But then we saw it! A magenta coloured 4 story slender old building that stepped straight out of a period arthouse film set in the 1930s. The lobby area continued that ambience, as did our top floor rooms (not overlooking the river unfortunately -- extra $$). The room was large with a beautifully comfy king sized bed, a shower, toilet and small bathtub actually in the same room as the bedroom (for the shy, you can curtain it off). Not sure how many rooms it has, but maybe 10?? Not mannt more. So the dining room or river terracd is never crowded. The food is just wonderful, and inexpensive. Most nights you get a talented duo singing Carpenters & Bee Gees covers on the terrace, as the cruise ships drift by. The hotel is about 4-500 metres from a skytrain stop and a futher 500m on you come to a MASSIVE shopping centre with everything under the sun for sale there. The staff are exceptionally lovely and helpful. The small pool was closed while we were there -- no idea why. And the rooftop bar was not operating. Botton lime: we all stay in anodyne comfortable hotels all over the world which we could never describe 2 weeks later. This one will never leave your mind, for all the right reasons.
