Seeking Hookups and Relationships on Work Trips | Condé Nast Traveler

"Late-night delays can turn surprisingly romantic here: a chance meeting at the bar drifted to the softer-lit sleep lounge for a brief kiss before the 11:30 p.m. closing announcement." - Alyssa Shelasky

We arrived at the Admirals Club lounge at San Francisco Airport ahead of our domestic flight to Chicago and were warmly welcomed by the team. Once we found our seats, a friendly staff member came over to give us a helpful overview of the lounge, which was a nice touch and made us feel at ease straight away. The lounge itself is quite long in shape but feels generally small. It has a variety of facilities including a child area, work stations, quiet phone booths, a quiet seating area and, of course, the usual food and bar area. There was even a little nacho cart that appeared during our visit, run by a very cheerful team member, which added a fun element to the experience. The food selection overall was quite limited in our opinion, and while there was a good range of seating options, they were not the most comfortable. That said, the entire lounge was very clean and well maintained, which was appreciated. Apart from a couple of guests who seemed unaware of how loud they were on their phones, the atmosphere was generally calm and relaxing. Overall, it was a pleasant place to unwind before our flight, even if there were a few areas that could be improved.

Decent lounge. I arrived on Saturday morning and it wasn’t crowded at all. The food options are average but the people working there were very friendly. Melissa working at the bar was especially helpful.

I frequent Admirals clubs all over. This one is a step above most! The staff were awesome, from the greeting to our bar service they were friendly and prompt. Much appreciated! On top of that the location has a great seating area to get some work done and watch the planes. It's along a hallway and it felt inviting. The food is what it is...

I've been to two other Admirals Clubs, in DFW and LAX. Here at SFO, it's older and smaller, but serves its purpose well. I really liked SFO in general because it's not a huge facility. CHECK IN: Kathy checked us in, and was welcoming and friendly. ATMOSPHERE: The lounge overlooks the runway, and has all the expected features of AC's, including restaurant-style seating, a bar, comfy sofa seats, and power outlets abound. I don't recall seeing a "quiet seating area" though. Attendants constantly came around to pick up dirty dishes. AMENITIES: The snack and drink selections were good, and included cheeses, salad, olives, hummus, trail mix, soups, soft drinks, and coffees. I love soups so I had to try both the Fire Roasted Vegetable Soup, and Broccoli Cheddar Soup, both of which were definitely of the bought-variety but was very satisfying before our 6-hour flight. The restrooms were fully private, individual closets and were clean. A nice selection of newspapers and magazines were available for the few who enjoy reading rather than being online. OVERALL: Intimate, relaxing, well worth the price.

Great cold (sandwiches, yogurt) & hot (sausages, oatmeal) options for an early AM flight.

It’s not the Amex Centurion lounge but the AA customer service people inside the lounges are exceptional. Every time a flight is delayed or cancelled I head here and they get it done in a matter of minutes. Even though I have access to the Executive Platinum 800 number, these people are WAY better and faster. 15 minutes ago they rebooked me on a United flight home after my AA flight was delayed and I would have missed the connection. Having the AA credit card with access to the lounges is worth it just for this. The food is decent, and the bar is good. There is usually sports on the tv. And sometimes in the afternoon there is a cart that makes fresh guacamole to order!

Drinks were of low quality not even good for cooking, needed to pay premium charges to get palatable red and beers. Plus point was quiet, clean and tidy for good restful transit.

This is one of the best Admirals Clubs in the country. It's spacious, well-organized, quiet and clean. The staff goes above and beyond to make it a great experience for every guest. The food is relatively traditional (when I was there, breakfast was eggs, fruit, yogurt, cereal, bagels, etc). Beer, wine and certain cocktails are free, other cocktails you have to pay for. The sleeping spaces are quiet and secluded, the desks/tables great for working. Overall this is one of my favorite parts of SFO.

Yelp
This is a nice lounge. It was large, spacious and clean. Service was kind and friendly while willing to help you out. They have a full bar and self service food bar. Plenty of options that will fit your food needs. Everything looks fresh and the plate I made was good. Spinach omelet empanadas, pumpkin spice swirl and poppy seed pound cake. Roast beef and bacon croissant and OJ. This was a nice location here at SFO and would comeback again.

Yelp
Staff is polite and friendly, and our flight was delayed till past midnight, and they extended the opening hours, which is really nice. The layout is the lounge is long and narrow, which I think helps keep this place relatively quiet, as there's no big open space for noise to bounce around. The restroom is kind of hard to find though, at one end of the lounge. There are different types of seats and outlets are plentiful.

Yelp
Overall: D // 2 stars The Admiral's Club in SFO is one that I find the complimentary options to be unfortunately bare given its lack of accessibility -- their food is structured into a complimentary buffet featuring only a couple of options, and a more interesting made-to-order menu that has a supplemental charge. Luckily, the bar has more options, including a complimentary seasonal cocktail that always piques interest. This lounge is accessible through Flagship travel, One World partner business travel, or having the AA specific lounge subscription/credit card. Through the first two access points, this lounge is simply outclassed by the Alaska and Cathay Pacific lounges, which you would also have access to. Through the paid subscription method, this subscription is comparably niche to one of the primary travel credit cards that give you access to a much better network of lounges, that are also higher quality. That being said, the advantages of this lounge is that it is extremely calm, and as a result, everyone is more at ease, and more pleasant to interact with. This makes it especially advantageous through IRROPS when you need customer support. Yelp
From the moment we entered to the time we left service was great. The staff were so kind and friendly. The food was very presentable and stocked. So much variety including vegetarian. There was hardly anyone in the lounge so it was quiet and calming before my flight. Something I need since I'm an anxious traveler. There is also a kids room with tv and tables and chairs for them.

Yelp
Nice lounge with ample seating and amenities. They have meeting room space, phone booths, and showers if needed. Staff is friendly and attentive. Food was the typical hummus, veggies, fruit and cheese, two soup options, Asian style hot meals (vegetable friend rice and Chinese chicken dish). Then they had a few small dessert options and snacks (trail mix, cracker mix, tropical jelly beans). I'd appreciate a few more hot meal options or maybe a salad element but otherwise a nice long. This was the set up for both evening and lunch/afternoon hours.

Yelp
Good lounge with spacious seating. The staff is very patient and friendly. Will return on our next journey to SFO.

Yelp
It's nice to have a place to relax and enjoy a little mimosa before the long trip. The ladies working the desk are always so nice and charming at 6:00am. I appreciate that after going through the Austin TSA screening. WiFi, relaxing chairs, light breakfast snacks.

Yelp
Legit AA Admirals Club in Terminal 1. Biggest surprise for me? It has showers! (First come, first serve.) Friendly service, and the usual allotment of amenities.
google avatar

Teresa R.

Yelp
Such a nice clean and bright place to relax for a bit before our next leg of the journey. They had these amazing apple cider mimosa that was delicious! We had a great snack - the complimentary avocado toast made to order. If you have this membership, it's fun to make a point to visit, even if you're not staying long. See ya next time!

Yelp
I really enjoyed my visit to the Admiral's lounge today and yesterday for my coming and going. It is expansive, to say the least. So most people, it seems, turn right once they are on the second floor, facing the windows. That is where the bar and the majority of the food are located. If you walk past the bar, there is more roomy seating for laptop work. Continue walking and you'll get to the bathrooms. But, if you turn left. That's when you entire my world. LOL. They have several sectioned off areas for different sized groups and different needs. They even have a children's area. And it has a door!!! Hallelujah. I have 5. I get it. But they're grown now. So, ya know... They have work areas with printers behind them. They have cozy little tables up against the windows, so you can watch the action. They have 2 phone booths, that would be nice if everyone on a business call would use. And they have my favorite, the quiet area. With lounge chairs, your own table and charging area, and most important, curtains, for partial privacy. But it is not a sound proof room. And that man who did his 20 minute conference call 20' from completely polluted my air space. (LOL. I'm just trying to be funny.). I still had it pretty good. And earbuds are always an option for noise canceling.
google avatar

Rob R.

Yelp
They require that you fly ONLY their airline o the day of travel, to use the club. However, they will take your $500 annual fee at anytime! Terrible customer service. That does not exist anymore.

Yelp
This is a great lounge, located in the newly refurbished Harvey Milk Terminal 1. Gayle and I have been here twice. The first was last Spring just before heading off to Chicago and then Madrid. The second was last November when we were escorted over here by a British Airways agent as their lounge was on minimal service after losing their water service. We're not that experienced in Airport lounges, but this one ranks up there. And at SFO, only the United Polaris Lounge (International Terminal) is arguably just a bit better. +/- - Nice bar and selection. However, I could have used a little more clarity on which drinks were free and which required payment. - Food selection was tasty enough, but tended toward the basic side. PRO - Attentive, professional, and friendly staff. - Clean and roomy lounge areas with comfortable chairs and a relatively quiet and uncrowded environment. - Convenient plug ins for devices. - Big windows, nice light, and stunning gate/runway views.

Yelp
Don't waste your money. They only have four flat beds with no privacy. Patrons are loud and entitled...especially those on their phones. The children's area is in the middle so there's always screaming rug rats. And then there's the dogs. My god...so many dogs! I'm an animal lover, but the barking is obnoxious. It's probably more zen in the actual airport. Absolutely awful.

Yelp
The good - contemporary, current, clean, convenient. The bad - dearth of food choices. The ugly - nothing.

Yelp
I've only this visit to this Admirals Club. I was early morning. Greeted promptly. There is a half with tables and the other half is more lounge. The breakfast offerings were freshened and filled regularly.

Yelp
American moved from Terminal 2 to the renovate Terminal 1 more than a year ago - but we few noticed because it happened during the pandemic. It's a lovely space, and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Great amenities, including a color multifunction printer/scanner/copier and phone pods for the now ubiquitous zoom meetings. The food is yummy and varied, however, as many have with the pandemic, they've adopted too much single use plastic believing that it's somehow better or safer - even though it's not. I'll expand on that in an update. For now, it's time to continue our vacation!

Yelp
I would definitely have your associates take some courses on service before getting into a role that has you interacting with human beings. Thanks Eileen for being so wonderful. I absolutely loved your condescending attitude. I really enjoyed your "teaching moments" as you referred to me. Awful experience Eileen. Thank you again Eileen for your lessons on God!

Yelp
Ok so here is a real time review as we text. The lounge receptionists were very friendly and welcoming. The lounge attendants were so friendly and really did a fantastic job maintaining lounge. Now the food selection is ok especially for a lounge. seriously!!!! what kind of food/snack spread is that? why would you have onion dip and cold pasta. why not have pasta with the meatballs, thats F&B 101. but they did have mini breads for sliders The bartender needs service training. I asked him if the drinks were complimentary and he said yes. i asked for a glass of wine and he states not that one, that you have to pay . so which one. don't tell your customers that drinks are complimentary and then turn around and say those you have to pay. so this one in the pic is complimentary. bottom line- Get some food outside in the main terminal and come here for beverages and cookies. 4 stars because of the super friendly lounge cleaners

Yelp
I honestly don't have that many complaints about the AA Admiral's Club here at SFO. It was very clean and was well-maintained. I decided to purchase a day-pass, because of an extended wait for my ride and was like ... why not be comfortable at the Admiral's Club. Honestly if I was not spending 5 hours in the airport, I would recommend spending that time exploring the rest of the AA terminal, because it is beautiful to be in and with myriad comfortable seating. I appreciate that there were dedicated areas to eat, chat, and be quiet. The highlight of this lounge were the staff members! They are incredibly hospitable and humble. Although it was my first time at an Admiral's Club, they oriented me to all sections. I even got to chat with a few of the servers and got to know them. What a great group -- maybe I'll cross paths with them again if I'm back in the American Airlines terminal here at SFO. Would come back again! Happy traveling and stay safe, everyone!

Yelp
Had my first visit to the new Club at SFO T-1 last weekend. Warm, friendly greeting and check in. Stairs or elevator and there you are. Nice entry, not as spacious as before, but they brought the artificial trees over. To the left are comfortable chairs, lots of seating. To the right less comfortable seating, large tables and the food and bar. Wonderful foods on offer, a very good selection. Good bar, lots of choices and friendly service. Comfortable, quiet, and well serviced. Another great AA Club. Enjoy!

Yelp
Very nicely done club! Too bad it's in a horrible airport. Seriously, from check-in to leaving, the staff was on-point, friendly, and helpful. The club was clean and nicely decorated... It looks very new, not sure when it was built or renovated. They have the typical offerings of all the AA clubs, which really do need to be stepped up, as they're very boring, especially for breakfast. This club is also in a large AA terminal, so it's probably going to be near you when flying in/out of SFO.

Jon O.

Yelp
Definitely not worth $79 for a day pass. Very few complimentary drinks. Uninspired food options, both at the food bar and the food to order. Incompetent service. Lame, boring design for the lounge.

Yelp
Love coming here on my trips to San Fran. Always brings back memories of my son's first time flying when we was 3 months old. The folks at the front desk are always so welcoming and polite. Rarely have I seen this lounge crowded. You can find a casual selection of eggs, yogurt, and fruits along with bagels. There's also a make your own egg scramble option and a small variety of cereals. Sometimes they set up a little table by the bar with an off menu food option. You can also find a diverse array of seating options. My favorite is the little space at the far back with block out curtains for those times when you need to catch some zzzzz. For meeting needs, there's a couple of small telephone booth like offices that keep the sound out or in depending on which way you see it.

Hal K.

Yelp
I am a Platinum cardholder with the card that American Airlines recommended I get (Aviation Mastercard) while flying internationally. This lounge doesn't "partner" with that particular American Airlines card, so my status and points got me nothing. What a joke.

Yelp
I was so excited to go to the admirals club with American Airlines. My husband has the credit card and always goes to the airport early just to go to the club and today I decided to see why. Upon entering we were greeted by the ticket counter ladies and asked to see our boarding pass and credit card, once inside I was blown away. I see why some people pay for one day passes. I was able to get me soup and crackers and tacos for the FREE!!! Yes everything is free once you're inside. Drinks and food. There is plenty and I do mean plenty of place to kick back and relax. The also have showers and a bar area. My overall experience was great. I think I may go early all the time now.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite clubs in the system. The relatively new club is clean, has showers, and a quiet area to relax. But what makes this club better than most is the friendly, professional and helpful staff from the check in to the bar. I am lucky SFO is my home club.
