Google
Excellent pizza and a really interesting salad dressing that I loved! It had an Asian flare and was super good! The staff was fabulous. And I’m from New Haven where the pizza is superb but this was REALLY GOOD!! Really busy place so make a res if you can.

Google
One of the best pizzas I’ve had. The restaurant is really cozy and the staff is so friendly. Highly recommend this place. They have wood fire pizza and really different flavour profiles. I loved the fact they had organic vegetables as the toppings.

Google
The food was tasty. The salad dressing was very good. There are no servers for lunch but they still prompt for a tip as if there was a server. They did bring our drinks and pizza to the table. I always downgrade my tip in places like this. The place is an old mill with a large wood fired oven.

Google
What a pleasant surprise. Decided to dine outside under the pavilion. Drink was amazing in flavor. Flatbread crisp and toppings were great right down to the fresh herbs. Quick to be seated and staff extremely friendly. Highly recommend a visit to this restaurant.

Google
American Flatbread located in Middlebury was a great find during our road trip through Vermont. We arrived in the evening and the building didn't look like much until we went inside. There is a hostess table in the front and a large dining area to your right with a stone fireplace where you can see them cooking pizzas. In the left is a bar area and some extra seats. This is a very unique restaurant that serves delicious brick oven pizzas. They state they use local sourced ingredients in their food which was evident by the taste of the pizza. There is a lot of interesting art located outside and inside the restaurant providing an eclectic and welcoming vibe. We sat at the bar and the bar tender was very attentive and welcoming. We ordered three pizzas, two small and one large. The large pizza was split with the New Vermont Sausage and Pepperoni & Pepper varieties. All the pizzas were great, but I liked the New Vermont Sausage the best. The bar offers a great selection of liquor, beer, and cider. The bar tenders were busy making classic cocktails. With the menu there was a letter written from what appeared to be the owner that shared an interesting story that is dedicated to the week's menu. I found it to be interesting and it shows that they put that extra effort into making the dining experience more enjoyable. I highly recommend stopping into the American Flatbread restaurant for delicious food, good times, and an interesting experience.

Google
Everything was fresh. Staff so friendly and they have quite the cocktails and cocktails menu. Great atmosphere and ambiance inside with a great outdoor space as well. We will definitively be back.

Google
Great food, great service! We’ve been trying to get to this place on one of our trips up to Vermont and finally made it happen. Their house salad is enough for 2 and the flatbread pizzas were top notch! Will definitely return.

Google
One of our favorite restaurants in Vermont! Delicious pizza, fresh salads, and great drink selection. New Vermont Sausage pizza was the fan favorite but Revolution is always a great choice. Had to try the Heady Topper IPA and was not disappointed. Felt very safe with social distance outdoor dining. Highly recommend American Flatbread you cant go wrong!

Ragini G.

Yelp
We stopped in Middlebury on the way to Burlington. Probably one of the best pizzas we had. They had a variety of interesting sodas/drinks that we tried. We sat outside with paper plates so it was fairly informal (it seems like they do service inside for dinner as well). It was a highlight of our trip.

Yelp
Food is awesome. Recommend the pepper and pepperoni pizza and the cheese and herb pizza. Service is fine. Takes a little while for food to come out. It is a very pleasant establishment and is pretty kid friendly.

Iris W.

Yelp
The staff were nice and relatively attentive! There weren't a lot of people but it still felt really cozy and seeing the stone oven (if that's what you call it ) was definitely a bonus. The ceviche was decent and refreshing but I'm not sure if they offer it every day... Anyways what really did it for me was the pizza! It was thin crusted which made it super easy to eat and me and my dad finished a small pizza (which was the perfect sizing for us!). Also the pizza is cheaper than what I've seen at other places and I think they make most of their money off of alcohol (just an observation y'all!). Anyways never had pizza this digestible and delicious all in one

Yelp
American Flatbread in Middlebury has always been a favorite. Consistently excellent through the years.

Yelp
American Flatbread was on one of my 'must stop while in Vermont' list. I had tried AF years prior in Burlington and loved that they put corn on their pizza and fell in love with the clean ingredients. I was a little bummed that they did not have corn to add to my pizza this time, but it still did not disappoint! We enjoyed the Apple, cheddar & bacon pizza, it was so unique and AMAZING. Cheddar on a pizza is so different and then the sweet maple drizzle... YUM. (It could use a little more bacon). The others in our crew wanted the new Vermont sausage, which they really enjoyed, I am not a fan of fennel sausage so it was not my favorite, but still tasty. The kids enjoyed the maple lemonade, but it definitely lacked the maple aspect, but was still enjoyable. We were also very impressed with our waitress Emmy, she not only did a great job, but her personality made our visit that much better! Thank you AF and keep being you Emmy!

Yelp
Great food, outstanding service, and a fun venue. We'll be back. We enjoyed the flatbreads , salads and desert.

Rhea A.

Yelp
Very cute and cozy establishment. Pizzas were delicious and you can really taste the flavor difference since the ingredients are sourced from farms. Unique combinations as well, both on menu and the specials. You can also create your own. The drinks are also tasty. Also the bathrooms are clean, so that's a big plus. The workers were fairly attentive and kind, but it was hard to get their attention cus they were talking amongst themselves a lot. They also have car chargers outside.

Steve B.

Yelp
We stayed a night in Middlebury and were hungry for pizza. It was a short walk from the Inn. Located downtown, across from the park along the river and waterfall. We called and asked if we needed reservations if we arrived at 5, I was told no reservation needed. When we arrived, it seemed to come across that reservations are needed. After a short wait, we were seated directly across from the pizza oven. We ordered the Evolution salad, organic greens with a raspberry vinaigrette. It was fantastic. The New Vermont Sausage pizza was the best I had enjoyed in a long time. Just stupendous. The server was excellent. She was training a new employee. Watching the young man at the pizza oven was a delight. Good thing I had a cold beer.

Jack T.

Yelp
Great indoor dining atmosphere. Great staff. Be sure to try the ABC Flatbread/pizza. Last few trips the pizza was not completely covered with toppings. Too much plain crust. These pizzas are not inexpensive.

Bob S.

Yelp
The punctuated equilibrium is by far my favorite flatbread and don't forget to add the goat cheese to the evolution salad.

Shaun A.

Yelp
Since 2003, we have enjoyed the food (amazing salads, creative and classic flatbread pizzas), the drinks (ahh...Vermont craft beer!), the attentive staff and the unique ambiance in the Marble Works above Middlebury Falls.

Angie P.

Yelp
The inside is super cute at very location! Very Vermont and they use local ingredients which I already love. However the prices are petty high but id you consider local ingredients I suppose it makes sense. Their pizza is alright, I've definitely had better but also worse. If you're looking for wood fired pizza in a pinch you could go here but I recommend looking for smaller business! If you're in the Middlebury area just 20 minutes away is morningside bakery with the best pizza I've ever had.

Don J.

Yelp
Check their hours. They only seem open in the afternoon. One thing I truly liked was the car chargers in the parking lot. We had the revolution salad which was made with an excellent blend of baby lettuce and other shredded vegetables with a nice vinaigrette. The pizza was very good but the description is way fancier than the actual pizza. The inside of the restaurant is rustic and surrounds the pizza oven.

Monica S.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere. With the pizza oven going it was a little warm, but I love hearth-baked pizza so it was worth it. Also had the Revolution salad along with the pizza. I took off one star as we were not told ahead that the cheese for the salad would cost over $3.00 more. All in all it was a very nice experience.

Jan B.

Yelp
Great, authentic, locally sourced when possible! This business is popular and well worth a visit!

C F.

Yelp
Excellent food. Very fresh, vegetarian options, beautiful putdoor seating, excellent cocktails, wonderful service. Make reservations, it gets crowded.

Melanie C.

Yelp
The best pizza in Vermont alongside amazingly fresh local salads, seasonal farm foods, great drinks & creative desserts. A great indoor & outdoor atmosphere too!

Karyn F.

Yelp
Delish fresh pizza!! Will definitely be back. There was 5 of us and we had a great seat by the fire. Wonderful waitstaff!!

Rob C.

Yelp
Always delicious pizza and salad. The outdoor pavilion is nice in the summer. Dog friendly too.

Jane M.

Yelp
The pizza is the best around! Cocktails are excellent and love sitting close to the fireplace.

Alley B.

Yelp
Don't expect to be served if you got our vaccine more than 9 months ago, they won't seat you even with proof of vaccination... My family members are elderly and got their vaccines and boosters early because they were eligible early. It's great that they are trying to keep everyone safe, I DO applaud them for that. HOWEVER there is not a fourth booster/vaccine available yet, so what are they expecting people to do? Save yourself the trip if you were responsible and got vaccinated or boosted early! Not worth the trouble, or being made to feel irresponsible by the management here.

Chip M.

Yelp
I went with a friend on a Saturday night, which admittedly might have been a mistake, since they are extremely busy. But the wait was not terrible; unfortunately, the pizza was just a notch or two shy of very good. And this from a guy who has enjoyed it, it worked with, and eaten a lot of pizza in his life!

Kevin H.

Yelp
Flatbreads are amazing, and drinks are even better. Giggle water craft cocktail is a must try.

David M.

Yelp
So much potential... early seating Saturday night ordering drinks, salad and the New Vermont Sausage and Revolution pies. So impressed with our Waitsfield experience this fall, booked a table at Middlebury. No comparison. Salad-ok but overpriced for such a simple salad - also ice cold, not my preference. Pizza arrived.... Meh. Crust soft/limp. Toppings, sparse. Observation: we were close enough to the oven to see how the meal was made. It's my contention that at 5:00pm that wood fired oven was just not hot enough to crisp up a nice pie. Can't wait to get back to the other side of the gap to get a properly cooked pie. Bill for two w/ tip $75. (BTW-staff very, very nice)

Walker J.

Yelp
This place should be called American Douchebread. It's June of 2021: the rest of the state is open and the overwhelming majority of people in this state are vaccinated. NOT AT AMERICAN DOUCHEBREAD where it's perennially March 19th 2020! Outside and online it says "fully open". When you get in there are two milquetoast imbeciles who immediately yell at you to wear a mask. And then, when they take 45 minutes to make a $30 pizza, they won't even bring it out to you at their outdoor seating. American Flatbread represents the very worst of customer service, respect for science and facts, and the food is just mediocre. Even if this place was open, it has no charm, no vibe, and no accountability. Go buy a frozen pizza or just simply patron a different establishment - one that cares that you're spending your hard-earned money there.

Tina R.

Yelp
BEST pizza I have had in forever. SOOOOOO GOOD. We had the Revolution and the Apple bacon maple Cheddar. Oddly fantastic. They use local ingredients--cheeses were next level. I loved this restaurant!

Jeanette M.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, really good wood fired pizza. Fresh local toppings and these folks donate lots of time and food to charities. Well done folks.

W W.

Yelp
What a great place! Pizzas were all fantastic. Very nice staff. Would absolutely go again!

Nathan N.

Yelp
My first time at this Middlebury staple was when we were hosting a dinner for our first generation college students here as part of the First@Midd pre-orientation program. There were several options of pizzas available for our outside feast, but I was especially impressed by the Evolution Salad, one of the factors in why I am now a salad eater. The servers were super friendly, constantly refilling our water pitchers. I have since returned on several occasions including an (indoor) interfaith dinner, where the fancy flatbreads are placed on special trays to hold them up (as they were outdoors too). I also ate here this past spring with some friends, before I flew back home for the summer. I have found that the flatbreads are all worthy of being eaten (actually haven't encountered a flatbread here that I haven't liked yet), though I am most recently a fan of the New Vermont Sausage that somehow brings out both the sweet and savory flavors of the meat (two of my favorite tastes).

Suzanne K.

Yelp
Opens at 4:00 with a very welcoming staff inviting you in. Tables are high with stools or high chairs. There is a full bar, lots of interesting pizza options and the garden salad was so good we ordered a second one.

Peter W.

Yelp
Enjoying their great food for many years never disappointed. The consistently high quality of food and friendly service makes dining here always a satisfying experience. Service is generally very accommodating, friendly and accomplished in an expeditious way with some occasional and very seldom exceptions. Bringing visiting friends from out of town to this restaurant always garners high remarks of praise.

Gary B.

Yelp
Got takeout yesterday. Mediocre. For the price I expected better. Was baked well. Dough was heavy to chew. Was hoping for more flavor in the sauce. The high point was the caramelized onions.

Monica M.

Yelp
Best pizza! Great ambiance and good service. Recommend to make a reservation in advance

Monica S.

Yelp
Went again and had a great salad, flatbread ( revolution and another veggie one) it was nice to go when the sunflowers were blooming outside . Excellent service but at 10pm we were the only ones left !

Steve H.

Yelp
Consistently above average food, service and ambience. A Vermont benchmark for Flatbread pizza.

David C.

Yelp
The flatbread was delicious, the atmosphere was cozy and warm, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. I could tell right away that this restaurant uses only the best and freshest ingredients. The flavors and fragrances of the toppings really come through while the bread delivers the perfect balance of texture and flavor. Cooked to perfection, toasty and crispy on the outside, warm and tender inside and just the right amount of chewiness. This place will definitely be on my itinerary the next time I visit the area.

Cori G.

Yelp
I think the American flatbread in Waitsfield is the best. This is pretty good but unfortunately did not blow my mind like the other location did. I love that they use local, fresh ingredients though!

Shazi L.

Yelp
Came here an hour early for our reservation--around 6:30, and the place was already packed. We were seated quickly, however! There was a wait until we were served though, which everyone in my party of six agreed was a tad too long, even after we'd all closed our menus. Once we were served, our server for the night was so lovely and attentive! I had a Dark'n'Stormy for my cocktail of the night, and I liked it very much! A nice kick of ginger with an interesting and tasty mix of sweet syrup as well. My friend ordered an Old Fashioned, and it was entirely too bitter for both of us. The drinks menu seemed pretty vast as well. The pizzas--clearly the reason this place is so popular--were amazing! I was a little boring and ordered my traditional favorite, a Margarita pizza, but it was definitely one of the best I've had (including my beloved New York City orders)! A small is more than enough for one person--most people finished theirs, but two of us had enough for leftovers. A regular sized pizza from here is also perfect to share for two. Although I made jokes about it during the meal, I adored the simple decor. The colors were warm without being distracting, and my favorite thing was the black cloths held up by clothespins and binder clips. It felt very DIY and unpretentious. When you first step in, the restaurant seems as fancy as you would want or expect a restaurant that served just pizza to be; nice enough to be a good night-out spot, and casual enough to be comfortable. I would love to come back here, maybe to try a different cocktail and branch out on pizza toppings too! Middlebury is full of good food spots, and American Flatbread surely fits in that mix.

Christine V.

Yelp
Visited American Flatbread for the first time and was blown away with the pizza. Excellent quality, very good service and a tasty margarita. We will be back!

Michael W.

Yelp
Up for a college tour of Middlebury College. Showed up when they opened 4:30, they weren't sure they could seat us (lots of empty tables). I said ok, to go, they said our pizzas would be ready at 7:30! Ten minutes later they sat us, we ordered drinks, a salad, 2 personal pizzas at 5pm. Waitress came up a few times saying order ready soon, 6:45 I ask where our pizzas are, at 6:30 we had been told 15 minutes. TURNS OUT THIS IS NORMAL. Kitchen and pizza makers work at a molasses pace until the backlog becomes ridiculous. They are a chain, "flatbreads" a bit odd and over-doused with balsamic vinegar on top. Wouldn't go back. However, Otter Creek Bakery wonderful for breakfast and lunch!

Paul R.

Yelp
Really good! Fresh ingredients. Friendly staff. Was able to sit our group of 5 including 3 kids ages 10-12 very quickly without a reservation on a Friday night. We got three regular size flatbreads that we didn't finish. Each was excellent. The atmosphere is fun and not a "pizza place," more upscale/trendy. Note: Construction as of 8/10/18 made it hard to get to. Google Maps will lead you to a turn that doesn't exist onto Main Street. It's worth finding so, good luck! 3 Regular-size flatbreads (Margharita, Sausage, Pepperoni) Dinner salad 4 sodas/kids drinks 1 Lawson Sip of Sunshine IPA $120 including tax and tip.

Moe P.

Yelp
You can taste all the quality of ingredients in just one bite. Oh my, freshness, that authenticity and that hospitality. The price is also reasonable.

Liv S.

Yelp
Awesome spot for a family dinner. A bit noisy, not great for a romantic evening out. The pizza is wonderful, flavorful, made with superior ingredients. Watching the wood-fired pizza oven is very relaxing.

Ashley T.

Yelp
Got the revolution pizza takeout and it was quite good! A little pricey, but not too bad. Four stars rather than five because of the price and I found a little piece of wood in my pizza ‍

Tommy J.

Yelp
American Flatbread is a classic restaurant for Middlebury College students who want a taste of the local flavor without getting too local. Almost every option is exceedingly tasty & equipped with all the non-standard options for vegetarians, vegans, pescatarians, and whatever other diet college students are convinced will save the planet (and a few pounds). The ambiance exudes the homey-but-not-too-homey vibe, complete with those candles that look real (but upon close inspection are sadly not), a stone oven (not pizza oven), and friendly servers who are all too happy to take your order and talk your ear off about the locally sourced ingredients. Though I am not entirely convinced the so called "flatbreads" are not pizzas cut into rectangular shapes, the quality of the food is top notch. Here I commend the creators of the flatbread for reinventing pizza to make it more trendy and appealing. To all the true flatbread fans, I apologize for my lack of FB expertise.

Chuck A.

Yelp
Compared to Flatbread (regional chain, especially Portsmouth, NH location)....there's work to be done. Mostly ignored by the bartender...owner "warned" us that our pizza would be a while...I guess that's ok, but think it's only a two minute cook time? Not sure. So...underwhelmed.

Devon D.

Yelp
This place is great. We love coming here every time we are in town. I love their beer selection - they always have some awesome local options on tap. The last time we were there we started out with the cheese pierogis and I cannot wait to come back to have them again. They were awesome. We love their pizzas. I love the cheese and herb pizza. It is simple and not too fancy, but the flavor is outstanding. My family enjoys the New Vermont Sausage pizza as well. They also have vegan options as well so they are good for any group of people!

Dakota R.

Yelp
ALWAYS amazing! Love their evolution salad--ginger-tamari vinaigrette with in-house raspberry vinegar!!! They need to bottle this, and sell it everywhere! Flatbreads are all tasty, many vegetarian options. We like the New Vermont Sausage (housemate maple-fennel sausage, sun dried tomatoes, caramelized onions, mushroom and two great cheeses! Good pies and ice cream/cookie sandwiches. Great place for large groups (pre- and post-COVID).

Lynn B.

Yelp
This is hands down the best place around to eat pizza, particularly if you're a vegetarian. The garlic-rosemary white bean dip plate is a great beginning and the roasted tomato salsa flatbread is a winner. Local craft beer is served and wine from Lincoln Peak Winery. The best part about this place is that all the ingredients come from local farms, proving once again that Vermont takes care of its own. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is great...what are you waiting for?
