I've been here once before, and I've been dreaming of coming back! It's a 3-hour drive from home, but well worth it!
My family and I walked in and were greeted by the scent of warm yeast, sweet and spiced fruit, and various roasts, all the smells of home. We walked in through the bakery. They offer an assortment of freshly baked breads like pumpkin, banana, and apple cake. They also offer varying sweet and savory pies, including apple, peach raspberry, chocolate, chicken pot pie, sheppards pie, etc. Everything is simply and neatly packaged.
The host greeted us shortly after we entered and brought us up to the 'loft', a 2nd floor walk-up area which seats about 20. The 1st floor seats about 30, but they're always packed, well, from my experience.
The servers were smiling and pleasant despite being slammed. Our server was a petite brunette wearing a witches hat, and she was absolutely charming! My uncle and dad hit her with all the dad jokes, and she effortlessly hit them with the comebacks, lol!
Note, they are making the food from scratch, so things do take a while here. It's all good though, it gives you time to talk with your family. Entrees come with a choice of soup or salad. Most people got the french onion, which came with a crispy piece of cheese and chunky croutons in it. My husband liked it so much that he was tempted to lick the bottom place that caught the overflow. If you get the salad, ask for extra bread. Trust me. Don't ask questions. Just do it.
My dad and I got pot pies, my son got a burger, my husband got wings and bacon jalapeno mac and cheese, my aunt got the turkey dinner, and my uncle got sheppards pie. The pie was bigger than my head! The crust was light and flaky, and the filling was simple yet flavorful. My sons burger was huge! They gave basically a full pound of pasta with generous chunks of pulled pork and crispy bacon cubes in the mac and cheese. The best part about it was that it was cheesy but not overly salty, and it had a kick but didn't burn off your tastebuds. I like spice, though, so if you can't do hotter than spicy cheetos, this isn't for you! My aunts thick cut turkey dinner came with all the trimmings, gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, etc.
Last, dessert. The pies are all homemade and come with a different crust depending on the type. They also make these desserts in a stein mug, which are epic!
All in all, it's a simple place that offers quality comfort food without all the fluff. If you're looking for homemade, from scratch, country cooking you'll love it here!
