American Prohibition Museum

Very well good museum. A number of great exhibitions which were both interesting and informative. You are able to walk through at your own pace, which I loved, as I am a "museum person". There was a fantastic guide in the room with the beer barons. She was extremely knowledgeable and provided additional context. The exhibition with still and the chicago gangsters were well done.i would recommend you visiting. A MUST SEE while in savannah.

I had an amazing experience on this tour, and it was well worth the money. Victoria, our tour guide, was absolutely exceptional—knowledgeable, engaging, and incredibly interactive. She made every part of the tour come to life and kept things interesting from start to finish. The way she explained the history, especially how the end of Prohibition played a surprising role in supporting federal income tax, was both fascinating and easy to follow. I walked away having learned so much more than I expected. If you’re considering this tour, I highly recommend it. The combination of great storytelling, interactive elements, and Victoria’s outstanding guidance makes it a fantastic experience.

Must do! Get the package that involves getting a cocktail at the speakeasy. Bartenders are great and friendly and the drinks are delicious. So much history and the wax figures contribute to the storytelling. I leaned a ton, especially about the connection between Al Capone / organized crime and also how it impacted income tax. You can get a ticket that covers the pirate museum downstairs too!

I thought I knew about Prohibition, and this museum proved there was more to the story. It is very well done, in a time period that I find haunting that as a country, we could approve a dramatic change to our constitution. It took 14 years to get back our freedom. It also was the basis to start income taxes to replace all the revenue government made off alcohol. There is so much to learn here. At the end, push the button in the door to enter the Speak Easy, where you will find some great drink selections. We all could learn a lesson here not to repeat in our country. When extreme views take charge, it takes a long time to correct!

The tour was well worth it. It was nice to connect the history with pop culture and other events of the time. Lynne was energetic knowledgeable and did what he could to make it personal and memorable. The drink was well made and there was a short film at the end. We contemplated that the cocktail class would have made a nice choice also.

a bit pricey for the amount of time you can spend here and compared with other museums but the quality is top notch!!! very well laid out, lots of genuine props and magazines, easy to follow and super interesting with lots of perspectives. worth a few hours

Such an amazing experience! We learned so much about the Prohibition period and the massive impact that era still has on the US today. The bar and the movie at the end really enhanced the entire visit, and the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommended!

I purchased my ticket to the museum as part of the city of Savannah’s HOHO trolley (at a reduced cost). The museum is right in the middle of downtown and is conveniently located at one of the trolley stops. There are many cute photo opps throughout the museum and it’s quite fun to go through. Would be a cool break from a hot, summer day walking around the city. You could probably spend 30-45 min in the museum (reading exhibits and viewing memorabilia), followed by 15 min having at drink at the speakeasy before exiting (extra cost for drinks). A cool little escape, just not something I’d go to Savannah specifically to do.

I absolutely adored my visit here. My cousins and I stopped by on our trip to Savannah to check out the Cocktail Making Class. We reserved a few weeks in advance and had a full class of around 20 in a side room on their second floor. Our instructor, one of the speakeasy bartenders, was fabulous and kept the jokes coming while teaching us so much about cocktail-making! We learned the difference between types of cocktails, and got to do a few hands on ones together while also sampling several others. The experience was complete with a few nibbles to enjoy as we learned. We even got a take home gift! The speakeasy down the hall is also excellent. We stopped by on our way out to sample a few drinks. It has an old time historic feel and even some old pictures and artifacts to peruse. The drinks were delicious and so unique! I highly recommend booking a class through here on your next visit to Savannah. I only wish we had more time to explore the full museum! Till next time!

Absolutely outstanding!! Booked the VIP tour ($55 per person on line). Had the incredible Victoria take us through the museum, full of artifacts, photographs, interactive displays and life sized wax figures. Learned a tremendous amount and Victoria was impressive with her tour. The second half was the cocktail experience in a speakeasy. Alex led it, and he too was extremely knowledgeable and impressive. We made a Bees Knees cocktail, but we came out with extensive information on his to make several cocktails, etc. They offer some classes and you can come in for a drink as well. Check out the website. Will definitely return next time we go to Savannah.

Awesome place! museum that is part of our history, prohibition lasted from 1920 until the 18th Amendment was repealed in 1933 Hundred of pictures and exhibits of the period worth visiting in this town Went on a Sunday and the Speakeasy wasn't serving alcoholic drinks! talk about prohibition. Come on Savannah! it will soon be 100 years that the crazy law was repealed, get on board and serve a drink any day of the week, I can't live on food and water only lol

Great time and the wall is so informative. Took a picture with some me in front of the wall for scale. Read the signs on the wall. Pretty cool!

A fun detour while out and about! Learned a bit of American history. It was really easy to follow and understand since the exhibits are well done and informative on their own, but you can also get a guided tour.

Checked out this museum in DT Savannah. You have the option of a guided or self guided tour and option to add on a signature 1920's cocktail at the end. I decided to forgo the drink and walk around myself. It was a very cool experience, and you might run into some friendly staff who are dressed up and can help you answer any questions. They had a lot of wax figures and some fun interactive stuff staged out. By the end of it you have to hit this button and it automatically opens up to an underground speakeasy that was super cool. The bartender is dressed up like old times and they had a few more things you could check out before exiting. I learned a lot and enjoyed myself. It is a fun and educational thing to do if you're in Savannah!

A little bit touristy and a tad bit pricey (if you get the package with a drink), but worth the visit to learn a little more about the history of alcohol in the US. Apparently this is the only Prohibition museum in the US. The exhibits were pretty cool to see. We did the self-guided tour, but you can certainly overhear the tour guides that are conducting the guided tours if you need to learn a little more along the way. It's not that large, but it takes about 40-45 minutes to get through. As we ordered the ticket with a drink, we got our complimentary cocktails at the Congress Street Up speakeasy connected to the museum. I'm not entirely sure how people access this when the museum is closed, but it looked pretty cool to me. Unfortunately, they ran out of proper cups for me, but my girl got a proper one. Lot of Prohibition-inspired cocktails. Other than that, definitely come for the history..... can decide last minute if you want to come for the drink, but the history is worth it.

A lot of sizzle and no steak! It would not be a repeat or a recommendation for me. The big point that they really push is the "speak-easy" at the end where you can buy a cocktail. Big PASS... too crowded and not atmosphere. Save your money and skip it.

A must see while in Savannah, located in the heart of downtown. I have a hop on hop off tour while in Savannah definitely the perfect way to the town one of the stops actually, our first stop was the prohibition museum. This place was awesome and told an incredible story. The museum was full of different artifacts and stories about alcohol, the abolish of it, and the bringing pack of it. There was even a speakeasy upstairs that had some wonderful cocktails that we indulged in early on in the day since we were on vacation :) I would definitely reccomend

Interesting place dedicated to prohibition era.....several option tours.... If you like this kind of stuff, I suggest the basic tour and then wait until 630 when the speakeasy opens up to the public....or skip the tour and wait for the bar to open....metered street parking

This museum is fun, clean, and friendly. It is also appropriate for a family trip. I enjoyed the props and history lessons. Admission prices are affordable, and not too expensive. I have visited this museum three times. It was fun learning about gangsters and mobsters during the prohibition era. It was also interesting to learn how people drank alcohol legally and illegally. Did you know that women also made moonshine?

The Prohibition Museum is positioned in the perfect spot- spend your day shopping and checking out historic squares, and then walk right over into the museum for a step back in time and a really great cocktail in the speakeasy. Yes, its air conditioned! Yes, there are plenty of exhibits to explore! Yes the drinks are strong!

It's a museum with a really jumpin' bar inside. The museum part is very interesting that takes you through the time of Prohibition. Who drove it, why, what the consequences were and how folks got 'around it'.... or tried to... and the creation/evolution of the mobster/gangster guys. Definitely allocate an hour to walk through the museum and then more time if you plan on having a drink or 2. You don't have to buy the drink ticket up front if you don't want to but I think it speeds up the process. You can buy more drinks after the use of the drink ticket if you feel so inclined. The drinks are 'ole-timey' drinks. The old fashioned was nothing special, but the other 2 were quite tasty. The wait for a drink can take about 20 minutes if you plan on having a drink... there's tons of bars in Savannah... so if you are not willing to wait then you don't pre-buy the drink. I on the other hand enjoyed the show of the bartenders making the drinks and the ambiance.

One of the highlights of our trip! Really cool to learn about the history and see the propaganda. They did a nice job organizing everything and making it interactive. Love the speakeasy idea at the end.

Got a deal on admission tickets with the trolley ride. It seems some patrons had a drink included. I'm not sure which package that would've been. But it was a narrated tour or self guided. There was plenty to learn and observe in the wax figures were on point! I love the speakeasy was a great way to finish the tour. The location is central so you can go to many other hotspots.

This is a really fun museum. Self paced with a few docents to ask questions. They do have a speakeasy bar upstairs that makes prohibition era cocktails and throughout the museum are a few posters highlighting the history of some of these cocktails. Ok maybe I was into the cocktails. Fun place. Lots of wax figures and a short video showing the consequences of prohibition that lead to our current income tax, the mob and NASCAR. Check this place out.

This was a very informative museum. Definitely learned some things while walking around the self guided tour. You can also do a guided tour. The only flaw is there are guided tours going on while the self guided tours are happening and you have to walk through groups while the guide is talking and skip that area. You can go back when they are done though. There is a fun bar at the end with alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Restrooms: They have restrooms when you go past the bar. Parking: You'll need to park at the parking garage next to Ellis Square.

A very informative and unique museum with much higher than expected production values. There is even a speakeasy towards the end where you can grab a drink and view a few more exhibits. Heads up though: there's no alcohol allowed here on Sundays due to Georgia's blue laws-feels especially ironic given the nature of the museum, but it is what it is. The block the museum is on is also lively (and car free!). Recommend going a couple blocks away for a quick meal at Spudnik before or after as well. Well worth a stop.

Pricy but interesting. It is self-guided, and necessitates lots of reading, but it is informative if you are in to that. It doesn't seem to be very accessible, unless I was oblivious to things out of the general eye-sight. But I recall a lot of stairs, so be aware of that. There are a couple ticket levels, some which included a cocktail class or a cocktail at the speakeasy at the end, but with the price we paid just for admission, a drink should have some with that cost! There are a lot of cool looking and impactful photo-worthy scenes set up along the trail through the museum. Everything is clearly marked not to touch or climb on, but nearly half the other museum visitors either can't read, can't read English, or DGAF and will be all over and in the displays. I found myself lowkey entertained but also disappointed in the whole experience. But we can say we've done it!

Awesome visit every time. From the wax figures, to the signs, to the cars, it's a great time. Their speak easy is definitely worth the stop and order. Great friendly staff, and knowledgeable people.

Excellent tour with Tommy!! Do the guided tour, not self guided, and you will learn so much! Heads up, if you go on a Sunday you can only have a no -alcoholic drink in the speakeasy. I don't know that when booking. Drinks were still very good. Highly recommend doing this

July 18, 2024 Bought a ticket to come here when we got our tickets to take the Old Town Trolley. I had a friend visiting me and she really wanted to come here as she missed it her last visit to Savannah. For me I had never been so I was in. We took the trolley here and really liked that everyone was dressed and acted in character. Very interesting information regarding this interesting part of Savannah's history. We got a ticket for drinks that was included during the Speakeasy part of the tour where the bar was hidden and you gave the password. The drink was interesting and was popular to the era. Definitely interesting as well as fun. But I will say now that I went no need to visit again. All good got my history on!

This was a really cool spot! We did a guided tour of the museum, which includes a cocktail in the speakeasy afterwards, but I do think I would have preferred to do a self-guided walk through. I was just in Savannah for a day so I had a pretty packed schedule. I was told when I bought the tickets that the guided tour was 40 minutes but it ended up being over an hour. Additionally, the museum just didn't feel built for a guided tour. Our group often took up an entire gallery and our tour guide would tell guests to pass through, creating an uncomfortable experience where other guests would miss an entire gallery. When one group told our guide they didn't want to pass through, he insisted and told them we were on a private tour. I completely understand that, but I don't think it's right for paying customers to have to miss any one section because a tour group is inside. It just seems that the guided tours could use some restructuring, so that self-guided tour guests don't have to miss anything. The speakeasy after was SUPER neat! Loved the classic cocktails on the menu and period glassware.

What a fun way to experience the dry spell of America. And the experience ends in a speakeasy.

We came in on a Saturday in January looking to explore Savannah while escaping the cold. The staff was very friendly. We did a self-guided tour of the museum which was clean and very interesting. There was lots to see and read. Some of the interactive exhibits were fun. Make sure to try the dance steps towards the end of the tour. Then you need to go to the speakeasy at the very end, that was our favorite part! Both of our drinks were great, we had the daiquiri and the punch. The bartender, Eric was great!

A must if you're in the area. Family friendly, and self paced walk through history on prohibition with a lot of insightful facts that can be read throughout the tour. Family loved the audios, and visuals throughout the museum and the Speakeasy which also allowed for "mock tails" for the kids. They do have guided tours available, our families were ten in total and decided to do the self paced. Also they have cocktail discount at the door but if you are indecisive at the door you can always purchase at the speakeasy.

My wife and I were on a long weekend vacation trip and we had heard about the Prohibition Museum and it is near the main part of City Market in the heart of the historic district. I ordered a drink ticket with our admission at the speakeasy. The exhibits are really cool and well written. Really interesting and probably takes a good 45 minutes to go through the whole thing. There is a speakeasy towards the end and I got a sassafras cocktail, which was well made and the bartender was nice enough. I would highly recommend doing this museum, it was very fun!

Serendipity. That's how I wound up at the American Prohibition Museum. As it stands, this was not per se on my list on my travels. Nevertheless, an Uber driver recommended it to me, and funnier still, I walked into the gift shop, falling in love with a whole bunch of Betty Boop trinkets. Given that this was my mom's favorite character, I took it as a sign to check out the museum and I'm happy I did. I went in and was able to take plenty of photos and learn quite a bit about the Prohibition era. Admittedly though, this all paled in comparison to the gift shop where I spent way too much money. I'd have spent even more money had it not been Sunday. Apparently this museum has a speakeasy, and on Sundays, they don't sell alcohol. Go figure! At any rate, it was a good time and I'd recommend it if in the area.

An avid specialty museum follower, I was intrigued by the notion of a prohibition museum. At best a 60-90 museum visit, the experience was both informative and entertaining. Great spot to keep in mind when in Savannah if you have any interest in the era as the museum does a good job of keeping visitors entertained based on exhibits and unknown facts.

Came here on the recommendation of a friend and our tour guide. Entrance is reasonably priced and it takes just about an hour to get through. Really informative with a lot of historical relics. There is quite a bit of reading but we enjoyed learning! The speakeasy was a highlight and we enjoyed some great cocktails! All of the staff was incredibly kind!

We loved the guided tour with Stephen. He was amazing. He was animated and fun and we learned a lot. I highly recommend this tour when you're in Savannah!

The museum was decked up with all the items in that era, including the make and model of the car mimicking an ambush ala Bonnie & Clyde, among many others. History of kick backs and how the mafioso (Al Capone, et.al.) made their big money out of prohibition. Analogous to the Rock of Ages when Catherine Zeta-Jones and her Sunday-dressed ladies protested all the rock n roll as they waged " we're not gonna take it... , no, no, we're not gonna take it anymore!!! " Though, of course, in this era it was the women wanting to prohibit their men wasting their income on booze...hey, just making an analogy!!! Impressive and informative and love that there was a Speakeasy bar at end of the tour but unlucky for us we went on a Sunday when local rules prohibits serving alcohol on Sundays, pun intended.

what a fantastic time we had as a family of three visiting the American Prohibition Museum as tourists from California! You will love every square foot of this exhibit from the fun interactive videos to the "secret door" right after the crime scene. Take your time and enjoy everything this museum has to offer, you won't want to miss a thing.

The American Prohibition Museum is a fun and intriguing museum to check out in Savannah. I had a good time here, learning more about prohibition, American politics during this time and some of Savannah's history. I highly recommend visiting if you're into history and/or drinking or both! No judgement. We had a tour guide that led us through the museum who was very friendly and provided highlights of the museum, with some history lessons sprinkled throughout. A lot of the exhibits here help capture America during the prohibition era with mannequins dressed as so, marketing material, audio and visuals of significant events and people. If you want to thoroughly see all of the exhibits, expect to spend up to two hours here. The guided tour was about 45 minutes, which didn't allow for you to see everything, but provided a summary of highlights not to miss. At the end of the museum, there's even a hidden speakeasy where you can get a cocktail and there's also a theater where you can watch a short clip about the 21st amendment. It also leads you back to a gift store on the street level. Located in the north historic district in Savannah in the central market area, it's easy to find and is not to miss if you like U.S. history and/or drinking! Like I said, no judgement.

We had fun, took us maybe an hour to get through the museum. Some interesting artifacts, pictures, and videos to see. I would skip the drink at the end. The wait was long and cocktail was very average for the price. After all, these days you can get a drink anywhere! Wanted to point out that contrary to what it says here on Yelp, dogs are NOT allowed. No surprise as this is a museum. Must be an oversight.

My husband loves history so this was right up his alley. The museum is cute but the speakeasy was everything. Watch people learn the Charleston while sitting at one of the high tops ;) The drinks were great! We loved the vibes

Enjoyable walk-through your, plenty of information about prohibition and how moonshine became popular. If you come Savannah please stop in and check it out for yourself.

The Prohibition Museum was honestly a lot of fun! I had no idea what to expect, but I actually learned so much and it never felt boring. They do run guided tours, but we missed the first one and didn't want to wait for the next one. We walked through the musuem ourselves and it was perfectly fine. We opted for the ticket that also gives you a drink in their speakeasy bar, which I highly recommend. They have a bunch of tasty cocktails as well as wine and beer. We both really enjoyed our drinks and it was a nice end to the very interesting and informative musuem. If you only have time to do one thing in Savannah, I would recommend the Prohibition Museum for sure.

I'd say this place is touristy, but fun! It's weird and cooky and interesting and informative and kitchie. Aparently (and somehow) it is the only prohibition museum in the country. You'll end your tour with a cocktail in a speakeasy style bar complete with beautiful vintage cocktail glasses that the bartender told us were collected by the owners from various antique stores. I loved that little personal detail! And the drink to cap off the visit was actually a pretty good one. I won't spoil too much about the tour, but prepare for a very touristy, very fun experience.

Fun spot in Savannah's City Market. This small but mighty space has diverse and well-curated series of exhibits on the temperance movement and the Prohibition era. We took a guided tour with an enthusiastic guide, Bernardo. For those of age, the tour concludes in an in-site speakeasy-like bar with a complimentary cocktail. The cocktails were tasty and the atmosphere was great. This is a fun Savannah stop for a history buff.

Christopher is our bartender in a private lesson where we learned to make an old fashion and a Bees Knees. I don't like gin but I loved the bees knees anyway. After our cocktail making lesson, we went into the bar. When you go through the museum, they give you tickets. But lots of people we're passing around tickets so we had plenty, read, maybe too much to drink! I ordered the brown derby, which was amazing and my companion ordered a Chatham artillery. They say it is the cocktail of Savanah. It was quite tart, but if you like citrus, you may very well like it. It had old Forrester Bourbon, Bacardi, rum, brandy, lemon, sugar, and sparkling wine. My brown derby was Old Forester bourbon, grapefruit, and honey. It was awesome. Everyone is quite happy at the prohibition museum. It was a really fun time!

Would I go again? No. Was the bartender in the speakeasy wonderful? Yes. It wasn't what I expected. I felt like it was missing quite a bit of information. It seemed to only hit a little bit about the time period and then you're in a bar & gift-shop. Good if you're into short, sweet and waiting in life.

I love museums and more importantly! I love weird/niche museums. The American Prohibition Museum definitely checks those two boxes. I don't want to talk too much about it because I don't want to spoil certain things about the museum. I think it's more fun to go in "blind" and not knowing a whole lot about it. Drinks! Get the drink ticket. This was the funnest part. After seeing so much alcohol and alcohol paraphernalia it was really nice to just sit down and have a drink. The drinks are Prohibition themed and fun. The bartenders are knowledgeable about the drinks and will help you make a decision because honestly...all the drinks are fun/interesting to get. You can also get more drinks to have a more typical "bar" experience. The drinks are $12 a piece, so that's a fair price for premium cocktails made by hand. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. Again, I don't want to say too much about the museum because I think it's more fun to not know a whole lot before you go in. Just don't forget to dance when you have the chance toward the end.

We took the guided tour and really enjoyed it! Our tour guide was Victoria and we learned a lot from her. I highly recommend taking the guided tour, much more informative than going through on your own. It also comes with a drink at the speakeasy at the conclusion of the tour. Great value!

A group of 8 friends and I are on our annual trip and this year took us to Savannah. We all love our libations , so why not take a guided tour of the Prohibition Museum. Rodney was our tour guide and if possibly ask for his tour. He's very knowledgeable and puts on a great tour. He read our group and knew he could be relaxed with us and still give a great tour. If you do the guided tour you do get a free drink at the end, but you learn so much more if you pay the extra money for it. Believe me it's well worth it. Would definitely recommend this as a must see tour.

The tour was fabulous. Our guide Thomas was informative, well spoken and easy to understand. We left with so much more understanding about what transpired during that time in our history. Highly recommend.

So let me preface this by saying that this is our second time here in one year. It was my son's favorite museum last year when we visited and his most requested to come back to. The first time, it was an AMAZING experience. Late August 2023 was our first visit. When we got to the speakeasy, our bartender was just this awesome guy who was fun and easygoing. If I was only rating the museum experience then it would be 5/5. However, I have a sour taste in my mouth from this trip (7/16/24) after the experience in the speakeasy. Rude is honestly an understatement. Our bartender (I have name but choose not to name in public review) didn't acknowledge us for several minutes and upon asking a few questions about the menu, it became clear that she had no interest in being kind in her answers. Maybe she was having a bad day, maybe something else was going on- I'm sure that must be the case, but it was an absolutely dismal experience. It sucks too because having experiences like this really ruins a portion of the experience and after spending the amount of money to come back especially for this place on our vacation just feels meh now. And also, the drink was pretty mid too- which wouldn't matter if the service was better.
