Amet Haveli, A Heritage hotel, Udaipur

We stayed as a family in Amet Haveli during our recent trip to Udaipur in December 2025 and could not have chosen a better location. Situated on Lake Picchola amidst very picturesque surroundings, it was a location to savor. We made an online booking from overseas and were offered the option to pay at the property due to a technical glitch. Rakesh was very facilitative throughout this process. I would think we were offered one of the best rooms on the property, where one could watch sunrise and sunset while still in bed! I indicated at the time of booking that we were three adults in the room and that our son was very tall and would need a bed beyond the standard size. Rakesh assured us on our WhatsApp call from overseas that they would make corresponding arrangements, and true to his word, he complied. All the rooms were tidy and well kept, and the views from within were simply breathtaking! ||Access to the property was by small motorized vehicles, then on foot. Haveli Staff met us a short distance away and helped carry our luggage and check in. We were greeted warmly and ushered into our beautiful corner room.||Dinner was on-site at a restaurant by the lake. Breathtaking views, soothing local music in the background, the tranquility of the lake, the noisy chatter of fellow diners, and the excellent evening lighting made for a spectacular experience! The food was great, the Staff were courteous and friendly, and the cost was very reasonable. On our last night at the property, we had dinner on the rooftop - an experience we hope to duplicate next year soon.||One genuinely felt treated like royalty with all the pampering and sights, and we hope to revisit Udaipur and Amet Haveli soon (as our short two-day trip did not do complete justice to what both Udaipur and the Haveli had to offer).

This is a historic hotel where they filmed The Real Marigold Hotel for the BBC some years back. ||It's on a stunning lakeside location overlooking the City Palace and the Lake Palace, and its restaurant - the Ambrai - is one of the best in the city. It's easy to walk to most of the sites from here. However, it's worth noting that because of its location only certain licensed taxis and tuk tuks can access the small roads that lead to the hotel.||Our check-in experience was not particularly welcoming...the receptionist was quite miserable and there was no welcome drink or similar offered. Our room was large with a high ceiling and smallish shower room. And whilst it had a certain rustic charm, it was very dated. The tiny TV had zero reception and the Wi-Fi was equally poor. ||The grounds also have a certain charm - especially when lit up at night - and included a small swimming pool. ||Breakfast and dinner was included in our rate, which turned out to be astonishingly good value when compared to the Lake Palace for example. Breakfast was served in the Ambrai restaurant and consisted of a buffet plus cooked to order items which were all pretty good. ||Dinner at the Ambrai was on a different level. The romantic ambience at sunset was simply stunning and the food and service excellent...in fact some of the best food that we tried during our tour of India. Not surprisingly, it's an extremely popular spot so make sure that you reserve a table especially if you want one of the lakeside tables. ||We really enjoyed our stay here but there's no escaping the fact that the rooms really need some updating.

The hotel has a fantastic location with incredible views, and the restaurant was one of the best experiences of our stay. The staff were extremely attentive—very engaged and on top of everything. Not overly formal, but genuinely friendly, which made it feel relaxed and welcoming. I regret not remembering everyone’s names, but one person in particular stood out: Deepak, who was exceptional. Overall, a wonderful experience.

Great location for a hotel. Beautiful views. You can easily walk to the city palace and it’s a great way to see the old streets. So much to see. Breakfast is fantastic (loved the Dosa) and they have proper coffee. Best we had in India. We had a suite with lake facing balcony. Beautiful. Large and luxury bathroom. Staff friendly and can help with anything. We see some people comment on cars: the old town gets crazy and it’s extremely hard to get around in a car. Our taxi driver did not drive to the hotel at all, we walked the last 400m( arrived 5am) and when leaving we got an Auto (Tuk Tuk) to meet our car outside the old town. You will understand this once here. Noise: it’s a heritage building so it is not sound proofed to a modern standard. There is a restaurant on site and we could hear the guests to past 11pm. Also, some days we could also hear chairs being moved etc to set up for breakfast at 6:45am. If you are a light sleeper this can be a problem. The room also needs some fixing: toilet roll holder on the skew. Not enough storage to hang clothes. More comfortable chairs on balcony. Maybe a sun lounger? We were also given a dirty iron but luckily it didn’t damage the shirt. With some very small corrections this would be 5 star across the board.

Has to get a tuk tuk to property as no cars can get down thin streets. Nice reception and nice staff. Good walk through hotel. Great room. Great view over lake. High bed and comfortable . Plenty of water to drink in room. Big room. Massive shower would hold 3 easy. Good bathroom products. Nice towels. Cold pool all kept clean. Wonderful restaurant attached with roof top views. Can be a little noisy from rooms above. But not too bad. Good check out. Best hotel on our trip.

I recently stayed at Amet Haveli with my wife and our 4-year-old son, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by their top-notch hospitality. The staff is extremely polite, attentive, and always ready to help with a smile. They made sure our family felt comfortable throughout the stay. The ambiance of the property is absolutely breathtaking—a perfect blend of heritage charm and lakeside beauty. Waking up to serene views of Lake Pichola and the surrounding architecture is something every traveler should experience at least once. We tried a variety of dishes during our stay, and I must say the food was exceptional. Every meal was flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented. Even our little one enjoyed the food, which is a big plus for families traveling with kids. Yes, the price is slightly on the higher side, but honestly, they do not compromise on quality or service at any point. The entire experience—from the room, service, ambiance, to the dining—felt completely worth it. I would highly recommend Amet Haveli to all visitors coming to Udaipur. Whether you’re traveling as a couple, with family, or even solo, this place will add magic to your trip.

Amet Haveli is a beautiful heritage hotel in a lovely setting overlooking Picholi lake in Udaipur. It’s a fabulous location to explore the city from. The staff and rooms are great. The restaurant overlooking the lake serves good food and has a fantastic ambience

Its difficult to describe how amazing this hotel is, and the location perfectly placed. Our room had a lake and Palace view, which I will never forget, especially at night when the magic happens. Staff were all so friendly and helpful, my only slight complain would be, staff were a bit slow at the beautiful restaurant, however, setting was so breathtaking, it didn't ruin it for us. Would highly recommend.
