Amethyst, Chennai is one of those places that instantly pulls you in. Set in what feels like an old colonial bungalow, surrounded by lush greenery and beautiful landscaping, it looks absolutely gorgeous. Part café, part high-end shopping space, it’s the kind of place you want to love. I was genuinely excited to try the food.
We started with a cappuccino — unfortunately, it was quite bad and set the tone. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, which came on circular-cut toast instead of the usual base, and sadly, it just didn’t work. The flavours were just ok .
My son’s waffles were so bad they had to be sent back, and the BLT we tried was as basic as it gets — nothing wrong, but nothing memorable either.
The only real highlights were the iced tea (refreshing and well done) and the desserts. The red velvet cupcake and burnt cheesecake were genuinely good and probably the best things we had.
Verdict?
Go to Amethyst for the ambience, the greenery, and maybe a leisurely iced tea and dessert. But if you’re going for a proper meal, I’d honestly skip the food.
