Wow! Immaculately clean. Cozy, welcoming. It’s tiny, but they provide everything you need. My daughter dropped her toothbrush as we were moving luggage into the car, and the Amherst Inn had a toothbrush and the tiniest cutest tube of toothpaste. Snacks, water, coffee, tea - it felt like I was staying with a beloved aunt. And that shower! The water pressure was great! So many thoughtful touches. Is Amherst Inn the best example of Southern hospitality or just a business owned by people who are passionate about creating a welcoming and relaxing home away from home? So impressed with Amherst inn.

We chose to stay here due to proximity to the fabulous wineries and brewing the area.|The Inn is conveniently located within walking distance of grocery store and places to eat. Highly recommend Vito’s. |The Inn is newly renovated. Rooms are as seen in the pictures. Quiet AC and great water pressure! They offer snacks and toiletries that you may need for a brief stay. |The owner was very nice and accommodating. They have 2 nice sitting areas to enjoy the beautiful weather. |We will definitely stay here again.

Loved this place. Quaint, comfortable, safe and had everything you could possibly want in terms of thoughtful in-room amenities. Though it's located near a busy intersection (for Amherst), it sits low off the road so it's very quiet. Easy walk to convenience store and yummy eatery. Terrific customer service. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll definitely stay here!

We stayed at the Amherst Inn while visiting friends and were very happy with the accommodations. Friendly staff, beautiful, clean rooms, and great blankets!. Lots of little details made us feel as though we were staying with friends - complimentary snacks as well as water and coffee. Accent pillows, extra blanket/throw and a comfy lounge chair with books and magazines made me want to stay longer. A thoughtful book with helpful info about the hotel and shops and local things to do, written with just a little bit of humor were a nice touch. Also need to mention the water pressure in the shower was amazing, beat shower in any hotel we have stayed in ever, and a real shower head, not one of those water saver take your skin off kind! We will definitely stay here again.

An older motel with great care put into renovations, decorations, and details. The shower water pressure was AMAZING! The whole room was immaculately clean. Well worth the money when we visited Arrington.

The inn was exactly as pictured and extraordinarily clean. There were many little touches that made it feel very homey. The rooms are very small, but for our short stay and just the two of us was fine. The only negative was a very strong musty smell in the room.

I was having a bit of a medical emergency & needed a place to rest and recover. The gentleman at the front desk was beyond helpful and compassionate. The room was absolutely delightful! It felt as though I had just walked into a home, rather than a plain, uninviting motel room! The bed was very, very comfortable, and the décor was very well done and quite beautiful!|Thank you for providing such a beautiful, safe harbor!

My husband stayed there a couple days this week. Becouse his mom is sick and wantez to be close. He said it was well taken care of and the room was cozy and looked inviting. The staff was friendly as well. He did have some problem with the ac unit but the manager brought in a portable one to make up for it so that was good of them. Over all he said he liked it and it was next to were his mom lives so very helpful location. Also that we will make it a place we will stay again when we visit his mom.

Yelp
Really lovely little Inn! Clean, nicely decorated, and the gentleman at the front desk-- who has owned the spot for over 25 years-- was very kind and accommodating! At ~150 a night, it's very reasonably priced, and the experience is far more friendly than your typical motel experience. The bathroom was stocked with all sorts of goodies one may need, and there was a FREE snack bar in the room! They have early check in and late checkout available for a very reasonable fee, and a log book full of all sorts of recs for activities/restaurants in the area. It's obvious how much the owners care about and take pride in this establishment, and I'd definitely recommend it if you are ever in the area. I would certainly return.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed one night while visiting friends in Amherst. Charming, cute, comfortable and clean! Snacks, bottled water and toiletries were provided. Friendly staff.

Yelp
"Unexpected" is the word I'd use. We were on a motorcycle trip + it's getting late. We'd been looking at those blue roadsigns that tell you about what lodging, fuel and restaurants are upcoming at the next exit. Our next "blue sign" has only one "Amherst Inn". Long story short, SO glad we stopped. What a GREAT place! This is truly a "hidden gem", ...clean, neat, comfortable, the room had everything you could think of (loved the little toothpastes) At check-in, the gentleman could not have been more pleasant and helpful. I have nothing but good things to say about this place. If I'm in the area again, to "heck" with the big chain hotels, I'll be staying here.

Yelp
I was so surprised to see how inviting and neat this establishment was upon pulling into the parking lot. It is beautifully landscaped, freshly painted with updated lighting, doors, and well lit location. The check-in was wonderful and the night clerk was so friendly and helpful. My room was the best part! They really did put a lot of effort into all of the little details in the room. It makes you feel like you are staying in a guest room in a very nice home versus being in a motel hotel setting. The beds are super comfortable with nice fluffy pillows and everything is super clean including the updated well lit bathroom has great water pressure! The final touches were the things like the books by the bedside table, the Wi-Fi area and desk station has lots of accessories to help your stay and the breakfast nook, features, a refrigerator, microwave, coffee, pot, ice bucket, and snack area. It is a perfect place to stay an entire week care and comfort.

Yelp
Not my first roadside hotel in life (get your mind out of the gutter) but this is the Cadillac of roadside hotels if 1 exists. Extremely clean in the rooms, like I might just eat a burrito off that thing. The beds were very comfortable even though my feet kinda hung off the edge. Complimentary vending machine style snacks in a welcome basket. A camp style shower (tight for large folks and people with long arms) that provided nonstop hot water with a flow that'll blow you out of the joint. YESSSSSSSS, Daddy loves his hot showers! The grounds are pretty cool. Gazebos and places to sit, eat snacks and chill with some friends. There is a McDonald's and a gas station directly across the street. The owner(s) are great people. Keep up the great work and see you the next time we drink wine all day at Ankida vineyard!!!

Yelp
Clean, comfortable and cute. Amenities include: Coffee maker, snacks, water, coffee, coffee mate creamer and tea. Microwave, refrigerator, iron, ironing board, magazines, books, usb outlets, hair dryer and toiletries including: razor, Toothbrush, toothpaste, ear swabs, mouthwash, hair net along with usual soap, shampoo, condioner and lotion. I wish all hotels were half as nice.

Yelp
Charming. CLEAN. Comfy. This totally sums up the Amherst Inn. I'll be honest, I was a bit apprehensive about staying at a roadside motel in a fairly rural area, but our friends assured us that we'd feel completely comfortable and safe. They were 100% correct.   The most important part of an overnight stay for me is cleanliness. No worries there. They keep the rooms spotless. Next, I need to be comfortable. I run hot all the time, so a good a/c is important for me. This room got nice and chilly, which was perfect for snuggling under all the soft blankets they provide. There was plenty of storage space (hooks, shelves, divans at the end of the beds, etc.). The water pressure in the shower was incredible! There's a mini fridge, a microwave and a little coffee pot in the room - they provide real coffee mugs or individually wrapped cups for your comfort. The wi-fi was fast and the TV had a ton of channels. If we were staying longer than just one night, that would have been a big plus! We still appreciated it, even though we didn't have much time to take advantage of it.   It's the added small touches that put this place over the top though ... they included a basket full of complimentary snacks and two bottles of water in the room. There are a variety of books by the bed, which made me feel right at home. The bathroom contained a basket with all kinds of essentials if you forget to bring your own. Some of the items were: a toothbrush, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, toothpaste, mouthwash, q-tips, shower cap, soap, hand sanitizer. Plenty of fluffy towels and washcloths were freshly laundered and neatly arranged for our stay. The owners have thoughtfully curated an album with all the local eateries, shops and things to do/see in case you want to explore the area.   We chose this place because of its proximity to Ankida Ridge Vineyards - we were there for a special wine club event. I highly recommend staying here if you're in the area. If you'll be exploring wineries, it's a pro move to book a ride with Tabb's Cab service. They shuttled us from Amherst Inn to Ankida and back again. We had an overall wonderful experience! We'll definitely be staying here again when we're in the area.

Yelp
*Website and Yelp review says 24 hour service. Which is false because they would not help me. If you are a black man don't bother trying to book a room after dark they won't even open the doors for you. If you tell them your looking for a place to sleep the clerk will tell you "go to the Food Lion parking lot". If the clerks are that scared of Professional black men they need to get glass windows with metal extended cash registers like at the gas station to deal with the public at night time. When I knocked on the glass she just waved her finger NO and didn't even bother to communicate with me or give me any explanation so I can know what's going on as a customer. I could have been a customer who has already paid who had a genuine concern. The owner of this establishment should sign up The employees for my customer service class $250 per person So I can deny them service like they did me. I had to come up with other solutions like calling over the phone and using hand gestures through the glass like a jail visit. They had no idea of my financial status. If you're scared of people you should not work in customer service.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem! The rooms are tiny so book the two double beds - it is so clean and stocked with free snacks, coffee, microwave and fridge- the tv and WiFi are great - we truly enjoyed our 3 night stay here and highly recommend it! Owners are friendly and helpful - we will stay here again

Yelp
Couldn't ask for a lovelier little place to stay during our trip to Amherst. Clean, comfortable, and utterly charming. The owners are really nice and the prices are truly reasonable. For any smokers out there, there's a convenient smoking area set up outside. My favorite part is all the books - makes me feel like I'm at home. Would definitely recommend the Amherst Inn to anyone traveling to this area.

Yelp
We cannot Express enough what a perfect place this is. We normally stay in hotels that are in the Hilton hotel family for the points but weren't able to find one close with our dates. We decided to try this place out not expecting much and we're MORE than pleased. The beds are really comfortable, the room is impeccably clean and had a microwave, coffee maker, fridge and every single day when we returned to our room it was cleaned and stocked INCLUDING bottled water, microwave popcorn, and chocolates. The room is stocked with books and cable tv and even the lobby has a full library and breakfast in the morning. I am really pleasantly surprised. I can say without reservation that this hotel meets and exceeds the standards of the large chain hotels for half the price. We cannot say enough positive things about the Amherst inn and will DEFINITELY be staying here each time we visit the area.

Yelp
WOW! and WOW!! again. My wife and I could not believe the "5 star" luxury in such a small space. Amherst Inn from the outside reminds you of the 60's retro roadside motel of my youth in a good way. The inside blows your mind of a New York City 5 star Hilton Hotel. It's luxury without being gaudy. We look forward to return again real soon.

Yelp
I've spent multiple nights at this inn since 1999. I've recently spent the weekend there and have to say the owners of the Amherst Inn has done a wonderful job with their renovations. The room was very clean and had multiple small touches that made my experience there second to none. The basket of snacks and novels along with the library in the lobby is a nice touch. Great job Amherst Inn!

Yelp
While driving at night with family towards Lynchburg, we decided to pull over and rest for the night and found this Inn. I was was very pleasantly surprised by the price and the room. The room was very clean, quaint and contemporary at the same time. it even had a small collection of books to read (nice touch!). Overall I would definitely stay here again with my family and would recommend to book.

Yelp
What a beautiful and quaint motel! My friend and I came to Amherst for a quick get away and to go to the Lazy Day Wine Festival last Saturday. Don't be fooled by the old sign! This place is super comfortable and beautifully decorated. The owners are so helpful and kind. It was a lovely little motel/inn. Thanks for a wonderful overnight getaway!

Yelp
I had very funny experience during my stay. For some particular reason, I have to stay in this area for 8 days. There was no much choice, so I moved in even though the Inn has very strong smell. And I did ask and get a few dollars discount for extended stay. And the hotel is run by an Indian couple. It was not until the last day, when I found out there should be continental breakfast. They didn't tell me when I moved, and never bothered to tell me during my stay. This is such a small town, the nearest Walmart is 25 miles away. I did stock some breakfast, but I surely could not get fresh fruit everyday by myself. So I questioned the wife: why you never let me know there is breakfast? Her first explanation: "because we already gave you the discount" -- what?! I got the discount because of my extended stay, continental breakfast is part of the stay, discounted or not. Then came her second explanation:" "because sometimes I have to clean your room after 12:00, we usually clean room before 12:00." -- did you guys ever hear this kind of reason? Then she said: " I told you in the first day, you just didn't get it" , and I had to tell her: "I have perfect English to understand whatever you say. You are simply lying. " Finally, I look into her eyes, and stated firmly: " I understand you run family business and on thrift budget. Before I question you, I had thought that you may simply forgot, or you may think I don't like your food. But now, I believe you did it on cheap purpose. I demand your apology." And finally, she did. It is so cheap, the toiletry is yellowish and thin, and I did buy my own toiletry. Another interesting thing: every time my room was cleaned, they would turn off my AC to save energy. And two of the days were hot!

Yelp
Keeping in mind that this is Amherst, a tiny town with very little in the way of accommodations, Amherst Inn is fine - the lap of luxury, it's not. What it is, is inexpensive, downright cheap - and pretty clean. And, quiet. I ended up leaving my glasses behind, and they kept them for me. I called a week later when I realized - and they'd been saving them for me.

Teresa E.

Yelp
This is a nice old fashioned roadside motel. I was able to park right outside my door. The room and bathroom are clean and the grounds are nicely maintained. Just what I needed at a reasonable price.

Yelp
I rate dollar for dollar. This place does outstanding. Not terribly expensive. The main word I would use for this location is CLEAN. It's not a five star hotel but if you want a place to sleep that's probably cleaner than 98% of people's homes, this is it.

Jane D.

Yelp
If you are looking for the most updated, luxurious hotel room around, the Amherst Inn is not for you. If, however, you want a clean room with a comfortable bed, decent bathroom, and flat screen tv, this is your place. The Amherst Inn is a roadside motel. The rooms were probably last remodeled in the 1980s. The wall unit A/C was very loud, but our bed was clean and comfortable, and the bathroom was spotless.
