We had a thoroughly enjoyable week at this splendid hotel, but we would agree with other people’s reservations as to whether this can truly be considered a five-star experience.||There were many positives about our stay. Our room was extremely clean, spacious, comfortable and had a magnificent and uplifting sea view.||The hotel in general felt classy and high-end and the staff on the whole were helpful and courteous. Particular thanks to the reception team who acted to swiftly when these weary travellers left a bag on the transfer bus!||We really enjoyed daily yoga and wellbeing sessions with top teacher Jovana – especially when held on the rooftop with its stunning views over the Makarska Riviera and the nearby town.||In our week-long stay, we had a couple of stormy days but the luxurious indoor spa was the perfect place to hide out. It had ample sunbeds, pool, whirlpool and extensive sauna area. Be warned about the sauna area, as a minority of guests clearly preferred a fully naked experience, which we were not expecting.||We were half-board and used the hotel for breakfast and dinner each night. The experience was OK, but certainly not as outstanding as the marketing imagery would have you believe. The best dishes were often a once-only offer on any given night so if you missed them by coming down mid-service they were not replenished. There was not a huge choice of fresh fruit at breakfast which, again, would run out during the service. I would have liked to have seen some stations where food was freshly prepared and piping hot. The restaurant could also get full so there was a need to hunt round for a table on a couple of visits, which isn’t conducive with a seamless five-star holiday. There is no free water on offer in the restaurant at dinner time, so be prepared to pay your way for drinks, including the smallest glasses of wine we have seen! And don’t be tempted to take a drink from the restaurant into the upstairs bar as that is against the rules. We were made aware of this oddment very politely, but such silly rules and regulations again don’t make for a hassle-free trip.||The hotel’s beach is lovely, with the sea easily accessible – no huge rocks as can often be found in Croatia. The sea is clean and usually like a millpond in the hotel’s small bay. The path from hotel to beach could be made more accessible – again, a minor quibble in the grand scheme of things but important if the hotel is pitching to be among the best.||We were adults-only but the hotel seemed to have comprehensive provision for children of all ages, including dedicated, shaded swimming pools and indoor gaming centre. It would be an ideal base for a luxury family holiday.||Overall, we would recommend a visit but there is definitely room for improvement in the catering, beach access and dispensing with a few daft rules.
