This is definitely one of the better hostels I've stayed in. We picked it based on price and location... and it lived up to our expectations. It was a quick walk to the beach and while it was far from the Gothic Quarter, you COULD walk there (my blistered feet attested to that), though there was also a subway station just a few blocks away that could take you anywhere you needed to go.
The rooms were crowded, but that's expected. They (and the rest of the hostel) all seemed clean enough. There were only thin sheets on the beds, which concerned me at first, but it turns out that Barcelona doesn't get that cold at night (ha!) so it wasn't a problem. The kitchen was spacious and had everything we needed, including places to put our groceries. It did, however, get locked at night (oops, when I didn't feel like bringing a key card out and hid it in the kitchen..). There was also a nice patio area to sit and relax and drink your wine.
Overall, both my friend and I were more than happy with our choice in this hostel. It got loud (as all do) but wasn't a 'party hostel', which we really appreciated.
