"How did it strike you on arrival? It looks like a temple, but the ornate entryway set amongst shophouses in this bustling business district enclave actually leads to both the 37-room Amoy hotel and the historic Fuk Tai Chi museum. There’s not much of a lobby, just a simple reception desk, but the space is peppered with a fascinating collection of items from the turn of the century. It’s almost as if you’ve stepped into a collector’s home. What’s the crowd like?Young couples, boutique hotel lovers, history fiends. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.Small, but cleverly designed, with the bathroom and entryway on a sort of mezzanine floor above the bedroom. It was a squeeze for two people, but it’s clear everything has been thought through – the room had all the essentials and then some, like a Nespresso machine and an umbrella. Airport transfers were provided with my stay, and breakfast (included) was at the Dean & Deluca café next door, also run by Far East. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?Sleep on the Simmons mattress was lovely and the bed had both microfiber and down feather pillows. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that worth a mention?Shophouse décor elements, like latticework above the work desk and a pretty blue-and-white porcelain sink (unfortunately heavy. Would steal!), really helped to add personality to the room. The mini-bar was stocked with snacks, beer and soft drinks – all complimentary. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. The shower floor was wood – harkening back to the sampans (a type of boat) of yore – and the water pressure (rain shower and handheld) wasn’t great, probably because of the age of the building. The Guava Asia toiletries were fresh and cheerful-looking though. We all need some good Wi-Fi. What’s the word on that? Not the strongest, but at least it’s free. Anything stand out about other services and features?Under-the-radar Japanese restaurant JIN on the property serves up great chirashi bowls. What was most memorable about your stay? The warm, authentic service from the staff. The historic setting is unique too. Bottom line: worth it?One of the most thoughtfully designed, mid-tier boutique properties in Singapore – with a unique historical element to it. Bonus: It’s steps from the Telok Ayer MRT station and in the middle of a buzzing food and drink enclave that’s home to some of Singapore’s best restaurants." - Audrey Phoon

This was a return visit having stayed 10 years previously and really liking the hotel. I have had another great experience with a very warm welcome from the friendly and very attentive team. I stayed in a cosy single room and enjoyed the design and considered features, for example the lighting controls are thoughtfully positioned by the comfortable bed. The hotel and the surrounding area is full of authentic character and the location is great for places to eat. The MRT is only 2 minutes away and easy to navigate your way around. I have no hesitation in recommending Amoy and it will be my absolute 1st choice when next visiting Singapore.

I really enjoyed my staying at Amoy. The facility is unique and you can breath all the history of the place. My single room was modern and had everything needed. Also very clean! Snacks and drinks replenished every day were a plus. The position is perfect to explore Singapore and just in front of the metro (Downtown line). For breakfast I experienced both options available: Henri and Genius Central, both next door. They provide a good choice for hotel guests and high quality ingredients and service. I highly recommend Amoy and I want to say a big thank you to all the staff working at the hotel for their warm hospitality. They even gave me a small sample of typical Singapore food as a gift, much appreciated!

Beautiful hotel, great stay. Our bathroom sink backed up a bit, but that was fixed immediately. The other issue was the light behind our bed that would flicker at times and then would not light up at all. We reported it, but it turned out to be a bigger problem to resolve, so we told the engineer to come back to fix afer we checked out. Very close to the MRT, which made it convenient to travel around. Overall, a wonderful experience, staff was very attentive and hospitable. Everyone at the front desk was kind and helpful, especially Sheirly, sorry we didn't get the names of everyone. Thanks for an amazing stay!

Excellent location of the hotel. Perfect facilities and friendly staff. Very close to restaurants and bars. The rooms are clean. Good breakfast options in adjoining restaurants. Shower facility after check out is available in a sister hotel chain which is excellent. Special thanks to Nadyah for the excellent hospitality.

Do not let the ancient appearance on the outside fool you! This is a modern hotel for modern sized people. Many hotels in Singapore are small, especially the newer ones. Amoy is the opposite as they provide greater size & is less expensive than rival accommodations.||Everyday the staff provide complimentary drinks (alcoholic & nonalcoholic were in my fridge), although I did not drink any of them as I wanted something fruity (you may enjoy the drinks though).||The nearby restaurant (past the elevator, through the sliding doors & on the left) provides free breakfast, & a reduced fee for staying in Amoy (which I discovered on my final days at the hotel).||Staff is fun to talk to & Amoy is located across the street from an MRT & there is a taxi pickup/drop off right outside of the gate. ||As far as the room itself, I slept on a comfortable queen sized bed, & I have cabinet space right across where I was sleeping. There is a mini fridge as well as a coffee maker (I do not drink coffee, but plenty of people do).||I enjoyed the selective light switches which turn certain lights off (master for everything, bathroom lights for bathroom & shower, & night time if you just want night lights.||Shower room in Amoy was nice as there are two shower “heads.” You have the normal shower head, as well as one from the ceiling, which can pour water on your head. You can not use both at the same time, but it is great that you have options (ceiling shower is good for tall people).||Location of hotel is in a great place in Singapore, & the staff are friendly & super helpful. I will stay there again—as soon as my boss gives me the opportunity to.

All of the staff, Letitia, Nadyah, Thomas, Jay, Jun, Hao, and Sheirly were so welcoming and assisted me with all of my travel needs. They were professional and efficient while being so friendly and always remembering my name. The historic property has been well repurposed and the room most comfortable. Great overall experience!

Lovely stay! I visited Amoy along out honeymoon, and ir was a perfect place to stay in Singapore, it is on the middle of Chinatown, in front of the TELOK AYER station, which takes you to Little India and Arab neigjborhood. So easy to visit Singapore in one day! Staff is great, specially Nadia, thanks for taking care of us so well!!

Yelp
Fantastic stay... no complaints! The only thing it's missing is a pool... but that is more than made up for with clean, cozy rooms, fantastic location on the border of Chinatown (right next to many good food and drink establishments, and conveniently across from an MRT station), delicious breakfasts (you can't go wrong with either the amazing Henri bakery or the Genius Central more vegetarian spot), and fantastic service (Tina was especially great)... oh, and more affordable than many places in Singapore, too!

Yelp
If you want a unique hotel experience i recommend the Amoy. It's near Chinatown and housed in a former temple and chop house building. The two story hotel is behind the former temple which now serves as the entrance. The rooms are a mixture of ultra modern Asian and old world charm. Free WiFi, international calling, free breakfast at Dean and De Lucas (of NYcity fame), friendly staff, across the street from the underground metro, close to great restaurants and bars and very comfortable rooms that might seem a bit eccentric but great fun. Yes, we enjoyed our three day stat in this hidden treasure that included a complimentary ride in a new Mercedes out to the most incredible international airport I've ever entered!

Yelp
Stayed two separate times as a solo female first time to SG at this really intimate cozy boutique hotel with that old world charm and authenticity. Can't beat a location called CBD right , okay not oil but Central Business District, walking distance to so many bars and eateries, shops, bank, ATM, and MRT station right across the street from front entrance. You can walk to Chinatown but it's one stop over with MRT. Most of all, loved personalized complimentary amenities - like car service pick up from and to airport (normally 1 way only, but I stayed two different times so...score), the complimentary refreshing welcome drink, mini bar and snacks, breakfast AND souvenir fan and umbrella! Just the kind of touches you don't get anywhere (like the MBS, which I stayed in also but MBS admittedly has a different value proposition). But here, you feel you dollar goes a long way. The rooms are small, but to me, feels nest-like cozy. The rain-shower was heaven. The cute welcome notes in the bookmarks were nice. They also showed me around nearby facilities I needed - where breakfast and ATM was. Like walked me directly! AND lastly, after already checking out, when I returned to pick up my luggage after a hot humid afternoon walking around Chinatown, they gave me a room to freshen up before heading to my next destination! Who does that! (They did say they had to confirm first that a room was available, and it was...score again!) If/when I come back to SG, the experience here I definitely wouldn't mind repeating

Yelp
My first time in the country/city-state of Singapore, and I stayed here. They picked me up from the airport and I got settled in. The location here is perfect- on the border between the financial district, and Chinatown literally steps from the river and all the fun nightlife and restaurants there. More importantly, since it gives you access to everywhere notable, it's steps from an MTR subway and a taxi stop. The hotel is part of a temple and merchant complex that dates to the beginning of Singapore as a modern city. The rooms have great air conditioning, a minibar, a cellphone with information and that allows local calls, and is very clean. The showers with the rainfall water shower head were great. Staff is friendly and the pricing here is definitely right. Comfortable beds and everything you would need for a stay here.

Yelp
I had the opportunity to stay at the AMOY thanks to a promotional rate that included airport pickup, breakfast, and wifi in the room rate. Other primary considerations were the easy, three-block walk to the office I was visiting on this trip. There wasn't much in the way of on-line reviews, but the website photos looked promising, so I took a chance and booked three nights. From the start, service was exceptional. I was picked up from the airport in a nice, new Audi sedan and the driver gave me a quick local history of Singapore and some not-to-be-missed food recommendations during the 20 minute drive. I was greeted at the street entrance by the front desk staff (her name was Apple, and she was very friendly and much more awake than I at well past midnight!), walked to my room after check in, given an explanation of all the amenities, took my breakfast order and wake-up call requests, and then left me to sink gratefully into a clean, comfortable bed with a choice of soft or firm pillows. Everything about the room was thoughtfully done: a spacious walk-in shower, an iPhone-docking alarm clock (5 or 5s models only, but there's USB ports for both your older model phone and an iPad), a squeaky-clean Nespresso machine, as well as an electric kettle in case you prefer tea. There was a safe for valuables, and a built-in shelf specifically designed for your suitcase to make unpacking clothes easy. There was even a low-level night light to help me see the step up into the bathroom in the dark. Wake-up calls and breakfast were on time each day. I was greeted by name by the front desk staff and offered dining recommendations any time I looked like I intended on wandering the city. One of the staff, Grace, personally walked me around the immediate area and explained all the dining and happy hour options, of which there was a wide array - everything from dim sum to sushi to burgers. It's also worth mentioning that the hotel is something of a historic preservation project, and you can clearly see both the historic and modern construction come together to create the space. Due to the traditional front facade, it's very easy to miss the hotel if you don't know it's there. It's a real treat for anyone interested in architecture, but if you or someone traveling with you has a mobility challenge, be aware that there are stairs and inclines throughout the lobby, hotel corridors, and even in the rooms. You may want to call ahead and discuss your needs with the staff to ensure a comfortable stay. I wholeheartedly recommend the AMOY to both the business traveller and the tourist, for its beautiful aesthetic, cheerfully helpful staff, and convenient in-town location.

Yelp
Awesome little place. Very quaint & thoughtful decorated rooms (they're small, but sufficient). Over-the top service. The previous review covers most everything... the only thing I'd add is they don't have a pool.

Yelp
really pleasant stay at the AMOY for my first trip to singapore. as a first time visitor, i enjoyed the location of the AMOY as it was close to chinatown, hawker centers, and the LRT is right across the street (telok ayer station on the downtown line which takes you to most touristy sites). i was able to easily eat/see most of the top attractions during my 3 days in singapore. whats really cool about this place is that it's actually housed in an old temple so you get a real sense of Sinagpore's history while staying in a modern hotel. even though the hotel is a public space and connected to a plaza with restaurants/bars, you still need your room key card to access the guest rooms and there's someone at the front desk area all the time so i like that extra security there. lots of cool perks when booking your room directly with them too! first, airport pick-up in a private car was awesome! its so nice to arrive in a new place and not have to worry about logistics about getting around town right away. our driver was waiting for us at the arrival area of the airport with a sign holding my name - so easy! also, our rate included a free city tour with hotel pick-up. since i booked the tour a bit late, the shuttle for pick-up couldn't come get us on the morning of our tour, but the hotel just paid for a taxi instead to take us to the Flyer area (the Hop-On, Hop-Off tour is a fun way to get a feel for the city). breakfast is also included but with so many other great options in the city, we actually skipped out on this perk haha. complimentary mini-bar (drinks & snacks), hot water heater , and nespresso machine in the room was nice to have too! all the staff we encountered were nice, friendly and helpful as well! thank you, AMOY for making my first visit to Singapore an unforgettable one!
