The Ultimate Guide to Visiting Pompeii (Updated 2025)

"Built in 70 BCE and one of the first stone amphitheaters, this huge arena hosted ancient games and today is a quiet spot at the far end of Pompeii where you can often escape the crowds, especially early in the morning or late afternoon; it's notable as the oldest surviving Roman amphitheater." - Matthew Kepnes

Very nice tour, very hot place with lots of walking. There was one family with a wheelchair and a couple with strollers and they were obviously struggling. The streets are original stones in which you can see the marks made by chariots, I understand now why people who had disabilities were carried into the town squares.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely amazing experience visiting the Amphitheatre of Pompeii with my family! The site is incredibly well preserved and rich with history. What really made the visit unforgettable was our fantastic tour guide, Carlos — he was knowledgeable, engaging, and brought the ancient world to life with his stories and insights. We barely had to wait to enter, and I definitely recommend buying tickets in advance to make everything smoother. This is a must-see if you’re anywhere near Pompeii — both educational and awe-inspiring!

A great and humble experience, however you need to pick your time to visit. It is extremely super busy, understandably, with a humbling experience. Tours are great but sometimes its better to go and do your own thing here so that you are not guided together as there are many tours here

Some awesome history and fantasticly well preserved buildings including the amphitheatre here. It's tricky to walk down the cobbled pavement due to the steep incline. But please be careful and try it, the view inside is worth it.

Fascinating place. You need to be fit. There was a lot of walking and obviously very uneven paths. But it was a great visit. We spent a bit extra to have the guided tour. Which was well worth it.

Hi there, An must visit when in Italy. Impressive to see the ruins of Pompeii and how advanced they lived BC. The restored art work, the discovered utensils and statues even table silver ware and glass bottles. Cheers

It was really incredible. Actually, being able to see this famous city, having that beautiful and deadly volcano just looming in the background in most of the photos, was a real sobering experience. They have plenty of drinking fountains cleverly put in the original fountains the people of pompeii once used. Bring good stable walking shoes the paths and roads are uneven really works on your calves and balance, also its alot bigger than you ecpect.. its to be expected it's an ancient ruined city
