Chandra Mahal Haveli, Near Bharatpur, Rajasthan - Explore & Book

"As it is often said, there are many Indias. More of a continent than a country, India spans from the dramatic slopes of the Himalayas to the golden beaches of Goa, from the languid backwaters of Kerala to the heaving metropolis of Mumbai. It takes many forms and has many faces, but the purest incarnation is the simplicity of a quintessential Indian village. There is no truer India than the village. Tucked into the winding alleys of Paharsar, a tiny hamlet near Bharatpur, sits the glorious Chandra Mahal, a 200-year-old haveli that was once home to the Maharaja of Bharatpur. Inside its high limestone walls lie peacock-filled gardens and a magnificent turquoise pool, with alluring rooms and impeccable service to boot. There are fascinating daily village walks, camel-cart rides for the adventurous, and the Taj Mahal is an easy day-trip away. And after a day of exploration, what could be better than retreating to your private terrace and hot tub, for a moonlight-dappled dip? Highs The setting in a sleepy traditional village, giving you a rare glimpse into rural Indian lifeIncredible meals in the Peharsi Andaaz restaurant - their Rajasthani thali blew us awayA massive pool and immaculate gardens - perfect for playing croquet or sitting in the shade with a good bookJust off the Jaipur-Agra expressway, so excursions to the magnificent Taj Mahal, Agra or Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary are a cinchSpacious rooms decorated with antique furniture - splurge on a Suite for an outdoor hot tub Lows The village is an 'authentic' one - so expect some litter, ambient noise and monkeys visiting your balconyOff the beaten track (a high for me!) - so make sure your driver knows exactly where to bring youIt’s lucky the food is fantastic, because there are no other restaurants nearbyBeyond relaxation and day trips, there isn’t heaps to do; 2-3 nights here would be idealSince our visit, we've heard that the hotel could do with one or two maintenance touch ups" - Emily Hirschberg

The location threw us off a bit..It's quite in the interiors of bharatpur. 25km from the bird sanctuary. The staff was very good and helpful and the property is very nicely maintained and cozy. The dining options are a bit limited given the location but all the items served were very delicious. Overall the experience was amazing. Food, staff and the pool was the high point of our stay.

This hotel is an old haveli(villa) that has been converted. The place is no doubt nice but the infrastructure needs serious upgrade||Cons||1) The ACs are old and need replacement. The fans are not on top of the bed hence they are rendered useless. Lack of ACs would be fine during winter but definitely not in summers||2) Taps and fixtures are also old and need replacement||3) The place has a lot of monkeys and if you are ok with that it’s fine. You will find monkey poop and the attending smell at times. Hence didn’t use the pool since saw the monkeys having a dip too 😊||4) Place is not senior or disabled friendly. Lots of steps to climb. Also no EV charger though it was mentioned as available. | |Pros|1) To make up for this lack of infra the staff puts in extra effort. The cook is good as is the food. ||2) It is in a village and hence is quite calm with no traffic etc unless you have a boisterous NCR crowd playing loud Punjabi rap and drinking beer.||All in all it is a good place but needs serious rework and investment by the management. You can only sweat an asset so much. ||I am sure if I were to have made the same trip during winter, my review would have been more favourable.

"A Must-Visit Experience!"|Wow! This hotel, located just 5 km from the Bird Sanctuary, offers a truly memorable experience. Under the warm and capable leadership of Mr. Rakesh, we had an incredible time enjoying the authentic village atmosphere. It was a perfect escape with the family — peaceful, traditional, and a real taste of rural India. Highly recommended for anyone looking to experience a genuine village-themed stay! ||

Quite a unique experience. The sprawling haveli with its open lawns, pool, and persian architecture fulfills your craving for some peace and quiet. You can hear so many birds chirping in the mornings. The service is very good as well. The staff is forthcoming, warm and most importantly, ever-smiling. Overall, a memorable experience.

A soulful, characterful retreat with warm staff, great food, and a heritage vibe—just don’t expect a normative resort experience.||A beautiful, quiet haveli near Bharatpur—full of old-world charm and warm hospitality. Rooms are spacious with vintage décor, the food is homely and well-prepared, and the staff go out of their way to make your stay special. Great base for visiting the bird sanctuary.||Don’t come with too many expectations—and you’ll really enjoy it. It’s more about the vibe and serenity than luxury. |A hidden gem if you want a slow, soulful getaway.||Tips: |Request a candle-lit dinner or quiet poolside evening if celebrating—staff go above and beyond.||Plan for day trips to Bharatpur, fatehpur Sikri or nearby attractions; roads are narrow and signage is minimal.||Be door-smart after sunset to keep monkeys at bay.

I would be honest that I'm not mighty impressed with my choice to go there, but it wasn't bad too for an experience. It's summer time, so the place was abundantly hot, mostly Indian tourists so they chose not to conduct any activities (I'm assuming). The staff did its best when it came to service, food was good from the next day, and the ambience was good too, but the place is far from main Bharatpur so needs a 30.mins drive to see anything for that matter and nearby places are all villages, so there's no other option to eat other than eating at the property itself. If someone just wants to go down and chill for a night, I think they would like the place.

While the staff was courteous however the property needs a lot of renovation and maintenance. The light in room was flickering and landline wasn’t working and even post 1 hour of trying they couldn’t fix it. Monkeys are a menace here, you can’t enjoy the property because of monkeys. We booked royal suits with jacuzzi’s but we couldn’t use the jacuzzi’s since monkey’s were roaming overhead… so in all hotel management needs to take some serious steps. Current state- not worth the money being charged!

The haveli resort is a fresh sigh of breath away from the city. The hospitality is amazing and the food is really good. Pushpendra, Bhupinder, Hamid, Sagar, Puran were very polite and quick in service. The chef Govind and Neeraj were really good as well. Since, we were travelling with a toddler, all of them were really helpful and understanding. Would surely recommend for a weekend getaway. Great place to visit with kids.
