Amtrak Seattle Station

Came here in mid May recently to take the morning train to Vancouver. It was ok walking from the Link station nearby with luggage except near the end as the elevator was not working (and still was not working 2 weeks later on the return trip). The station was spacious and airy. Was told by the receptionist can clear the immigration or check in the luggage first, either is ok. There are no assigned seating so it is better to queue up early if you want to be seated together with someone. The seats were comfortable and WiFi was available. Although the seats we chose were not near the coastal side, there were still nice scenery on the land side. At Vancouver the luggage was taken down and placed at the side of the train. For Amtrak - why not assign a seat at point of purchase? Even third world country rail systems have assigned seats. There were people at stations after Seattle walking up and down the aisle looking for seats.

I have really been impressed with the Amtrak employees and the stations… From Chicago across the country… Even with our extra long stops to get fresh air breaks… The Seattle station two was very wonderful and the staff very warm and friendly…

Amazingly beautiful train station in downtown Seattle with access to many restaurants and coffee shops along with some historic areas to explore.

Was genuinely worried about our trip from Seattle to Vancouver reading some of the reviews, however the service was efficient and well managed from start to finish and the staff courteous and helpful. Families in coach class were allowed on first so they could sit together, this process was well managed by the guard so it was anything but a free for all. Compared to British train journeys, this was a dream and came at the fraction of the price you would pay in the UK.

Surprisingly. On time both ways. It was wonderful and easy to get to Portland this way and spend the weekend with friends. The station is beautiful and the people all seem to be happy to work there and more then happy to assist. The seats on the train have lots of space and they even allowed us to transport a pretty big flat packed chair home from Portland. All in. 10/10. This honestly beats flying.

The free art gallery on the 3rd floor is a nice place to relax while waiting for your train. The station has beautiful architecture. Staff was nice and helpful.

This will be my first and LAST time using amtrak. Honestly a nightmare experience. -It's a very old station and in need of renovation. It is very old, dim, and grungy inside. Not a relaxing environment to be in. -There was ZERO toilet paper in the women's stalls. -Security guard was rude and stopped me for no reason. -There is NO notice that you have to check in, except for in a hidden room, many passengers were shocked to find out they had to check in after lining up for an hour. -The conductor was 45mins late. -There is no security on the train whatsoever. A vagrant managed to board our train, and disrupt the trip for 2 whole hours while waiting for police to arrive! When I got home, it was past midnight already.

Awful train station, no one ever at the customer service desk, no lounge for roomette customers, extremely dirty bathrooms, no charging outlets, floors dirty and seats needed cleaning...really sad for what we paid for tickets. Inside of building had some nice architecture detailing but outside left a lot to be desired. ☹️

I haven't fully utilized this station but from my visits to it, I do like it. King Street Station is a historic Station, it first opened to the public in 1906 making it well over 100 years old. Reed and Stem, who were involved with New York City's historic Grand Central Terminal, designed the station. The San Marco bell tower of Venice, Italy, served as the model for the building's familiar clock tower. The structure was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. I've had to pick up friends from here after they've arrived on their buses and day or night it's gone fairly well. There is often a line formed by ride shares/taxis and others picking up. I've never had much trouble getting in and out of there, though there are a lot of people walking around so you do have to be careful.

This is a clean and organized Amtrak station in downtown Seattle. There are a few parking spaces available at the drop off entrance and not much traffic in the area on a Black Friday morning. We are taking the Coast Starlight home and it is very convenient to not have to deal with airports, TSA, or traffic. The restrooms are easy to find and baggage drop off easy, too. I would recommend to have a few more vendor options in the train's heat.

I take amtrak when I go to Vancouver BC in winter season. Please know that you can't catch the train if you go 30 minutes before the train departure time. So it's better to get to the station at least an hour in advance. When you get to the station, first prepare your ID(real ID)and ticket. When I'm done checking, they're giving me a declaration card. You NEED A PEN to write that paper, so don't forget. It's like an airport. All we have to do is wait for boarding. If you're going from Seattle to Vancouver, sit on the left side and the view will be great. I recommend sitting on the right side on your way back. You can charge your cell phone on the train, but the speed is slow. Wi-Fi isn't very good either. The train stops at Canada Border for officers to check documents and ID. You won't leave the train until you arrive at Pacific Station BC. There is a cafe on the train, but I don't recommend it. The last time I ordered a burger, it tasted bad because it was heated in the microwave. The ride takes 4 hours, so let's relax. It takes a little time to enter the country, but Good Luck.

A very beautiful station. Since we took business class to go to Vancouver, we had a dedicated area to sit, and to board the train first. All Amtrak staff was very polite and helpful.

Took the Empire Builder from Milwaukee to Seattle. So many good things to say about this trip. The crew worked hard to make us comfortable. The food was better than expected. Way better than airline food and we had a roomette, it is considered a first class sleeper so our three meals a day were included. If you're not in a sleeper you had to pay $40/meal. Not sure I would do that. Our room also got us free soft drinks. Our train car's AC was not working in the room, just the hall so we had to sleep with our doors open, but the cabin guy stayed up in the hall way looking out for everyone. I was bummed that they could not move us to other cars but I get it. However we payed for comfort and did not get it. Once in Seattle we took the 517 on our last leg of our journey. Again the staff on board were amazing.

I walked by king street station only because i was not taking a train but just passing by but it's beautiful and well Maintained outside

They close the doors 5 minutes early, so arrive beforehand! We missed our first train and the staff was really helpful and didn't hesitate to move us to the next departure at no additional cost. They're very professional and helpful here without being abrasive to handling public confrontation from difficult travelers. I enjoyed this train station and was in awe of just how beautiful it was. It's a nice spot to hang out while waiting for your train to arrive. It's monitored by security at the entrance, so you just show your ticket and then relax in a safe space until it's departure time!

This station is one of the most beautifully restored locations I've traveled through. Someone was available to direct us as soon as we walked through the doors. Be sure to take some photos if you have time. You can walk upstairs to get a different view.

Total breeze to navigate! I hopped off the Amtrak here and picked up my baggage at their baggage carousel. Super easy in and out and extremely easy to get a ride outside of the station.

A beautiful structure in downtown Seattle surrounded by homeless people. What a shame. Amtrak and Seattle area commuter train Sounder both share the facilities, but it seems Sounder has more priority when it comes to the platforms. Sure, Amtrak only has the Empire Builder, Coast Starlight, and Cascades run through here, but they should never take a backseat to commuter rail, ever. The ceiling artwork is beautiful as you walk through the main concourse. It is no Grand Central, but still magnificent to look at as you pass through. I guess I have to bookmark this station for its aesthetics.

Took a ride from Kent, WA into Seattle, WA. The train wasn't crowded and was on time. Some of the areas are sketch and I wouldn't want to be here after dark. The station in Seattle is in the lower level and not enclosed. Lots of trash everywhere. I don't recommend traveling alone. The ride was convenient and cheap ($8 round trip). Was cheaper than driving.

Amazing architecture would definitely recommend for an Amtrak station my train was delayed but they got us subway amazing staff

The renovations on this building are beautiful, elegant, dramatic! The station has a large waiting area with tracks off the sides. There is also a multi-window ticket hall and a single luggage carousel in the back corner. Two restrooms are off the waiting area. This is a three story building. The bottom level where the tracks are located exits to King St. One level up is Jackson St. This exit has a good sized plaza that stretches out to the street, a large, neon 'King Street Station' sign and the best photo op of their tower. Which, by the way, is designed after the tower in St. Mark's piazza in Venice. If ya didn't know. The 2nd level includes balconies overlooking the wait area and offices. 3rd level is an art gallery for 'King Street Station Art'. The only amenity at this station is 2 vending machines. With 3 levels I would think they could at least include a cafe for coffee and sandwiches. The King Street exit has a restaurant nearby. Both the King St. and Jackson St. exits had a few homeless sitting or walking around. Taxi's, Uber and buses pick up at the King St. exit.

The station looks nice even decorations were during winter holidays. But absolutely lack of services. The area is already very isolated from town and specially when you come very early/late for your departure you can't even get food anywhere. I had to buy water from vending machine, no food tho. Trains are old and even if you are business class it doesn't help much. Armrests are broken and food selection on train absolutely disgusting.

Great station but surrounding neighborhood less so. Get a taxi and you won't have to deal with the characters that are literally on the other side of the tracks

Beautiful interior. Came here to take a 7:20am-ish train to Portland; was not crowded at all. Baggage check was quick and painless; agents gave option to print our tickets out. Once boarding began, the agent began with business passengers then I believe he called families with young children. There are bathrooms in each car and a snack station located at the front with little snacks such as muffins and bagels, and larger items like salads and sandwiches. Once in Portland, the train takes an extended stop so people traveling further can get out and stretch. Baggage claim was quick and easy. Would recommend.

I asked for help n was denied. They said they don't help people in wheelchairs. I guess they don't care bout being racists against persons in wheelchairs. Was going to go in a vacation onboard this summer but now I'm rethinking my plans. It sux! I thought this company was better than that. But I guess not.

Amtrak has a nice facility here at the King Street station, friendly staff, but I feel (as others do) that it is a sad short coming that this beautiful icon of a station lacks a First Class lounge. It's time for the city of Seattle and AMTRAK to come together and make this beautiful station more grand than it's.

Beautiful building. Staff friendly and helpful. I was walking with my cane and pulling a suitcase when I was asked if I needed help, which I did. I was then directed to a location in the train station where you will be assisted with boarding the train. No restaurants in the station, only vending machines, however there are many reasonably priced restaurants less than a block from the station.

King Street station is indeed one of the more beautiful stations you may come across, however I'd caution any tourists to be extra mindful of their surroundings and belongings if they choose to walk around. Masks are currently enforced inside the station and on the platform, but doesn't seem to be if you're waiting for Uber/Lyft or the buses. If you Uber/Lyft to or from the station, you'll be dropped off at the entrance. If you're taking an Amtrak bus (even the 'thru bus'), you'll be picked up at the left of the entrance (guards inside can confirm this for you, when I was there at 8am there wasn't an Amtrak worker in sight). I took the Amtrak thru bus to Everett, and we left King Street on time. However, we ended up stopping at a Greyhound station nearby to pick up additional passengers (waited there about 20-30mins, for some reason the passengers weren't allowed to board until the last 10mins). If there was a cafe or a coffee stand in the station, it wasn't open when I returned on Saturday around 11am. If you are hungry and have some time, there is a restaurant a few feet away called "13 Coins" or there's a Starbucks across from 4th Ave. Also, be mindful that the station is near Lumen field. If there are any games, concerts, or conventions the area may be harder to get to if you're in a rush.

Taking an Amtrak to Seattle? This will be your destination. Located right next to Chinatown you are a stones throw away from lots of good eats. Dough zone is a favorite (seem my review of them). Uwajimaya is also very close. Theres also a bunch of snack / bubble tea / shaved ice places nearby. In the mood for games check out the pinball museum. There's an embassy suites 1 minute away (literally). If you have long stopover they have a bag storage area. Open from 630a to 8p you can leave your bag here (10 bucks a bag). Very handy if you want to dump your stuff and check out the sights for a few hour. Waiting area is huge and clean and they have free WiFi. Not an international first class lounge but also not a dump either.

Do not go here, it is hell. The bratty security here can't stand you staying on the station platform for more than a minute. They do not let you explore or take footage, they quickly start yelling at you like headless monkeys. Most of the employees on the platform are complete assholes and do not let you take in the experience. They send you straight to the terminal and they do not let you look at other trains. Good luck getting footage. If you think your smart (like me) you would leave the station and go up to the bridge above to try and get to the sounder station located directly to the right of the station. Apparently the Amtrak security think they have some sort of authority over the sounder station and follow you with an Amtrak police officer or two. Leave me alone you bum ass people. I'm just trying to film trains and have a good time. They will yell, they will screech, I have never been so disappointed in my life. One last thing, here is something Amtrak doesn't want you to know. The reason why they replaced the majority of their fancy talgo cars with old rusty horizon cars is because the talgo cars did not pass the federal railway administration's guidelines, it had multiple flaws and it was deemed unsafe to use for the cascade service. DONT RIDE THE CASCADES!!! It is not worth the money. Go on the coast starlight.

Such a beautiful building. Free wifi is also useful. If you need to cross the border to Canada, you have to be here one hour before of departure because of check in process. There would be small podium with sign. There is one drink, one snack vending machines. I wish there is hot food/drink vendors.

Beautiful architecture what with all the white and bronze. Very picturesque and a good example of the city's continuing efforts to improve. As a station, it appears to be perfectly placed with taxicabs outside and Amtrak permanently ensconced. We arrived here by bus. Not at the trains station itself, but the bus stop was less than a block away from here.

It would be nice to come in to the station on a sunny day and see the beautiful remedial and ceiling. Well. I guess I am not supposed to. At 11:00 am on a sunny day I went in and was immediately challenged by the " security" guard. If I was not there with a ticket for a train I should not be in the building and need to leave now! oh well. Maybe it's not safe to be in there. Sad that it is so unwelcoming. But I guess taking the plane is faster anyway.

What an historic and lovely building! The high ceilings, bright interior and useful space is great to marvel at or utilize when awaiting transportation. A balcony on the second floor allows you to see the waiting room from above, taking in the architecture and glory of the lobby. The multi-purpose use of the building is also a wonderful sight and gives meaning to the use of space in creative ways.

I've been taking the Amtrak from PDX to SEA for 30+ years and commuted between those two cities weekly for several years. During that time I've seen King Street Station go through a lot of changes, improvements and upgrades. King Street Station is one of the last remaining old style big city depots. Not as grand as Grand Central or some of the others but very similar in many ways to Union Station in Portand. King Street Station is somewhat larger and grander though. Always clean, mostly efficiently run but the waiting room can become quite crowded sometimes. It would be nice if they would put in a Business Class waiting lounge ala the one in Portland. King Street Station isn't exactly in the best neighborhood but it is central to the city which is what one would expect in a train depot. You may see some shifty looking people in the area outside the depot but security does a good job of keeping non-passengers out of the building itself. I've never personally felt unsafe walking from the depot to the nearby Pioneer Square Best Western but you do want to maintain situational awareness. For the benefit of CHL holders, Amtrak has firearms regulations similar to those involving air travel. No metal detectors or anything like that but if you get caught with a firearm in your carry-on or on your person (loaded or unloaded) you could find yourself in deep legal do-do. Amtrak does have provisions for transporting unloaded firearms in checked baggage. Check the Amtrak web site for details on how to do that legally.

I came here not because I needed to take the train but to admire the architecture and craftsmanship of the beautiful intricate building. It was clean and gorgeous with the white space and tall long walls. Apparently, a group of three people were taking pictures with a professional camera and the worker aggressively shouted that it wasn't allowed. He shouted across the room alarming all persons in the building. We were glancing back and forth to see what was going on and the group was merely just taking pictures. Perhaps one is required to book the place to have a photography session? Who knows... but word of caution that you may run into mean workers if you do.

Taking the train between Seattle and Portland is an inexpensive and convenient method of transit for a fun weekend getaway. Amtrak trains are my favorite mode of transportation. King Street Station is absolutely beautiful. I love the lighting, ceiling and architecture. It is also located right in the middle of Seattle. I dont mind arriving, but waiting for a train is awful. There are no amenities. Luckily we have found some good coffee shops nearby. The bathrooms smell so awful all the time. They could use a little air circulation and an air freshener. When the train arrives, the atmosphere turns chaotic. Long lines everywhere with no direction or destination. Ten minutes of pure chaos. Once Im on the train, I calm down and vow to arrive a little later on my next trip to King Station to avoid the stress.

For the US this is a nice train station. Easily accessible, and can run in and out on the go! If I am traveling between Portland and Seattle, this is definitely the way to go. You can get from city-center to city-center in 3 hours and not have to fret about traffic. Not to mention the scenery along the way is lovely. The architecture, old light fixtures, etc. in the station are quite nice if you have a moment to enjoy them. The customer service here has always been friendly for me too. This is definitely not a bad way to get to and from Seattle!

During my vacation I several times visited the station, sometimes in a rush to catch a train and other times with a layover between trains. They did am extensive renovation/restoration a few years ago and it has since ascending to being a beloved icon. But also a living, breathing train station not a museum. Layout is very straight forward. Staff are friendly and helpful. No on site cafe but there is a vending machine. I actually had DoorDash deliver Ezzel's Chicken during a long layover and it went smoothly. ATM is adjacent to ticketing. Water fountains near bathrooms. Serving three Amtrak routes plus the commuter Sounder trains it is a vibrant active place. Just people watching is a great way to pass the time while waiting. Too bad no metropolitan lounge.

Took the Amtrak Pacific Coast Liner from Portland to Seattle and was amazed by how beautiful this station was when I stepped of the train. It's not very big so it's super easy to navigate. I had luggage that I needed to grab that I checked in, and the cute little baggage room with it's mini conveyer belt was super easy to find. The staff is friendly and helpful and leaving the station is great because you can walk to any of the sporting stadiums and some awesome downtown bars and restaurants. It's perfectly located. I definitely suggest taking the train as it's beautiful view if you're coming from Portland and it's super affordable too!

Horrible station, horrible customer service, and horrible communication. My friend and I booked the 12:35 pm bus to Port Angeles from Seattle. We were at the station an hour before our departure time, at 11:30 am, and we checked in with both the staff and the security guard about our itinerary. The bus was supposed to leave at 12:35 pm (we were well aware by getting there an hour early). We checked in again with the staff at 12 pm and they said the bus was expected to stop at 12:30 pm. We had waited inside (due to cold weather and rain). We kept checking out the window, waiting for the bus - we were concerned since we didn't hear any overhead announcement of the bus arrival time. We decided to walk outside at 12:30 pm and the security guard said the bus had already left! We were appalled because there was no announcement that the bus had ever arrived and/or left! We immediately went to the ticketmaster booth and the rep said that since we had purchased our tickets through a 3rd party, there was no communication between the vendor and the station that the bus had passengers to pick up. We explained that we had been there waiting for an hour, and made the staff aware that we were supposed to be on that bus. We were upset since there wasn't any indication of the bus arrival, no announcement, and how could they miss picking up passengers who had paid for tickets? Also, the ticket master rep told us that we should have purchased tickets directly though Amtrak, as if it's our fault the bus left without us? Such an absolutely terrible experience, awful communication skills, and poor customer service.

I was sort of expecting the worst but the recent renovation means this place is GORGEOUS. I heard other commuters mentioning how bad it used to be with bits of the ceiling falling down. But now it's beyond lovely. Signage was sort of clear...at least I ended up in the right area, but there was no one around for the Cascades line until right before checkin. I guess you're just supposed to know. Also there was no where to purchase a snack or beverage. I didn't attempt to use a restroom so I can't speak to what they're like. The wooden seats were surprisingly comfortable.

I just went there on Friday at around 12:30 in the afternoon with my son and the black security guy was the absolute rudest and disrespectful person u could imagine we wanted to go in there and get tickets to Portland and he was telling us that we were from the streets and he wanted us out if there when we were actually there to conduct business and this is a place that is open to the public and he is a public service he works for us we don't work for him and even on our way out he kept calling us homeless over and over again how can a person like this work here with such rudeness and unprofessionalism very very terrible from this man's actions and way of treating the customers me and my son were very disappointed

Design: 5 stars Service: 4 stars My fellow CM Katy hit the nail on the head: "There are gorgeous white mosaic and marble tiles everywhere, little flecks of gold, big expansive windows, refurbished benches, old fixtures and clocks on the wall... It's like the most beautiful movie set you've ever seen." It was 5:30 in the morning. I hadn't eaten, there was ZERO coffee in sight (would be nice to have a cafe or something inside). My loving boyfriend is carrying ALL of our luggage and dealing with me (a toddler). Bless his heart. I walked in thinking oh GOD - a train station is the LAST place on earth I want to be right now (after a long NYE of partying). We walk in and my droopy eyes LIT UP. My frumpy face turned right-side up. He dropped the bags. And we stood there in silence next to one another as we took it all in. My mind was racing. Thinking... who were all of these people who have come through here? Where were they going? Who carved these incredible details? How long did it take them? Honestly it was one of the things in my life that really did take my breath away. As for the service, it was prompt (not going out of their way to help us, but fair enough at 6am). Our ticket from Seattle to Portland was a fantastic price at around $40pp. We had a AAA discount as well. In conclusion, this place is a photographers dream. Take your camera. Take a moment to pause. Enjoy the little things, and don't let them pass you by.

The King Street Station is lovely with the remodel with restored brick and gorgeous molding. The trains run on time and today my train home was 20 minutes early! Woo hoo! Super easy to take a Sounder into Seattle from north or south, and Amtrak runs in here as well. Your Orca pass works for the Sounder and Amtrak.

The station itself is beautiful and clean, but that's where it ends. The only food/drink options are vending machines. My most recent time here there was no seat assignment, 100 people just had to stand in line for an hour and wait to board. The line for dropping off baggage says business class only, even though it's the only line and they accept people who are traveling coach.

The best part of using this station is looking up at the ceiling & viewing the architecture. The station has a fairly clean area to sit & wait. We caught the 720a train to Portland. We got there about 7ish & lined right up. We were asked if we wanted a table seat, but were actually given seats that faced each other. The wait to get on was fair, the employees were pleasant...thinking that only bc we were most likely the first train out.

Had an early train departure to Vancouver. The station felt very clean and signs were clearly labeled to guide you in the right direction. The decor and construction is absolutely beautiful and not what I was expecting at all! They have plenty of seating available throughout the station. The bathroom was clean. Unfortunately, There is no parking nearby so had to uber from my house.

Currently there's only one side door open for entrance which can be confusing, but the employees here are exceptionally helpful and kind. When I bought the wrong train ticket, they held the bus going to the correct destination while I exchanged my ticket. Everyone was pleasant and went above and beyond to help me!

This is a must-visit in Seattle. Close to downtown and Safeco Field is this amazing train station gem. A few years back, I took the Amtrak Cascades from Seattle to Vancouver, BC in the wee early hours and was too asleep to notice its beauty. Truthfully, it was also under renovation with scaffolding and the like. Fast forward to last month, I visited King Street Station to once again take the Amtrak Cascades up north to the beautiful Bellingham to visit my one and only BY friend there and her family. In the early afternoon (and with 2 hours to spare), I was able to fully appreciate the beauty and charm of this building. From the airy feel to the light fixtures to the crown molding, it's an homage to historic architecture with a bit of modern day flair. New benches and mosaic flooring, and decently priced vending machines, too! Amtrak and station agents are super friendly and helpful, which made my experience there quite pleasant. Please do yourself a favor, and visit King Street Station. Highly recommend taking the Amtrak Cascades, and hopefully, you won't be stuck in Everett (2 stops north of Seattle) like I was last month due to the big recycling plant fire in Everett! This is by far the most beautiful train station I've ever had the pleasure of visiting. Now, it's your turn to see it for yourselves! Cheers and happy Summer dear Yelpers!

I came to the station as a tourist just to see what it was like. It was much smaller than I expected. However the interior was really nice and the architecture was really neat. Didn't actually use the station

It's a well organized station for boarding and detraining from the trains that operate here. The main issue is the lack of a newsstand and coffee shop or similar. The Amtrak staff are extremely helpful.

Pretty solid place as far as small train stations go. If you have a longer layover take the metro in to the downtown area. You'll get a 4 hour transfer with paid fare to get you back or just walk if it's nice. For shorter layovers, a jaunt to the International district will keep you busy for an hour or two. Go to Uwagimaya for lunch and fun random shopping. King Street station has vending machines and semi clean washrooms. No free wifi which sucks for out of towners and Canadian travelers like myself.

Beautiful station inside and out. Taking the train to Vancouver was very convenient, easy and comfortable. The location is in the middle of downtown near Pioneer Square, close to the international district too. They have a luggage storage option for those looking to leave their suitcases behind while they explore. It's $10 per item for 24 hours with an Amtrak ticket, $20 per item without. Definitely worth it so you can sightsee without dragging luggage with you.

I personally dislike this monstrosity of a station. It's hard to navigate once you disembark your inbound Amtrak train and the signage isn't helpful at all. You can never find an Amtrak employee to ask for assistance or to direct you where things are and it's nice and new, but lacks the human aspect to help when signage and directions from the train staff really make no sense! The area you are expected to be picked up and dropped off in basically is a dead end road and when several cars try making U-turns it gets congested and very hard to either hail a cab, find your Lyft driver or even get yourself and your things into or out of a car because of the severely impatient other drivers. I have only ever been into the station once and will never make my final destination or origin point be this stop! I will get off further up north on the route of the Cascades or one stop prior to King Street Station. This would be an amazing station to experience if there just would be more directional signage that made sense, as well as Amtrak employees available throughout the station to assist you and not just at the ticketing area and the baggage redemption area. The lack of customer service and the layout were added things to the confusion of signage!
