"Union Station, Crossroads District. Kansas City has always been a railway hub for the nation and Union Station was where thousands of travelers would disembark in the heart of the city. Built in dramatic period style in 1914, Union Station fell into disrepair and was closed in the 1980s, narrowly escaping demolition. The city thankfully elected to renovate the architectural masterpiece, which now welcomes visitors with theaters, a science center, a planetarium, exhibit halls, restaurants and cafes and more."
1st trip by train in US. I’ve never thought, train might delay so often. More then 1 hour delay. Station is wonderful, old, clean, but nothing to grab with you to trip. 9 minutes by walk from station is crown plaza. All you need is there, coffee, bakery, and etc. worth then station facilities.

The train setups were so much fun! All the little details added to it. And it’s free. They just ask for a donation if you’re able.

The first leg of our journey was from Kansas City to Chicago. (The car smelled like BO and feet, which I realize Amtrak had nothing to do with.) We were two hours late in leaving the station. Otherwise an uneventful & mostly comfortable 7-hour trip.
However… the trip back from Chicago to Kansas City was a different story altogether. Although we left the station on time, we had to stop about an hour and a half into the trip and wait for more than 6 hours for a replacement engine to arrive! There were several additional stops throughout the night that delayed us for a total of 10 HOURS and turned our 7-hour trip into a 17-HOUR trip! They gave us a bag of snacks and a mini bottle of water. We came prepared with food/snacks, but the family with four children who sat behind us did not. My 82-year-old mother was miserable.
I don't know that I'll ever (willingly) take Amtrak again.

An absolute must for any human being! Take a train to anywhere or even better, take one to nowhere… I’ve enjoyed every minute of my train experiences. Love nostalgia? And no history-lesson like experiencing it yourself!

Nobody is ever in front to check bags and train departs in 10 mins.

My train was 6 hours early and several days ahead of schedule. Always taking the Amtrak!
