"On the faraway islands off southern Mozambique, it’s entirely possible to go off the grid. No place is this truer than at Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort, a paradise blessed with a palm-laced coastline, cerulean waters, towering interior sand dunes, and untouched coral reefs. Forty-four luxury villas are sprinkled across this near-private island, which is a whopping 22-by-4 miles—that’s larger than all of Aruba—but still hosts a small village and a second property, both miles away. By day, amble along the beach (you won’t likely see another human for hours), then try your hand at dune boarding, and later retreat to your villa for a mind-blowing sunset of purples, pinks, and reds as traditional dhow boats disappear into the horizon. Or, swim among the dolphins, prolific in this protected tract of the Indian Ocean, and watch the humpback whales skirt past from July to September. Feast on local seafood along the beach—giant multi-pound crayfish are not uncommon here—or request to “Dine by Design,” enjoying dinner out on a sandbar with a personal waiter at the ready. A short flight + boat ride from Johannesburg in South Africa, this relaxing island stay is an easy (and well-deserved) addition to an action-packed African safari." - Paul Rubio

We took a helicopter from Vilanculas to Bazaruta island, so felt like complete rockstars from the start. Achingly beautiful scenery. We loved our island hideaway and all staff were warm and welcoming. |Beautiful fruit basket and bottle of wine welcomed us. |Sunset cocktails on the beach are a must. My birthday dinner was very memorable - special table on the beach, amazing seafood buffet, birthday singing and cake to end the magical evening. |Another highlight was scuba diving 2 Mile Reef with divemaster Juma - dolphins, turtles, shark and the most beautiful tropical fish. Plus a stop on Pansy Island to look for shells! Finished by the best lunch - prawns and snapper! Fabulous evening entertainment at the club, with a Greek themed buffet rounded off another amazing day in paradise. |Thanks again to Haylee at Barefoot Breaks for everything! You made our trip the best!!

The overall stay was amazing, all the staff were incredible. The Santa Carolina trip and snorkeling was great. The management guy suggested the trip around the island by car which we really enjoyed. Bazaruto is beautiful and with this kind of service you can even stay and not return home. Missing all of you and all the best. I really recommend this hotel, either for leisure or business trip.

We loved it from the moment we arrived until we came back earlier today and treated ourselves to a helicopter ride to boot on way back! Very peaceful trip with the best beach/pool villa which is postcard perfect and the staff were all great ….. yes we were lucky with weather but even with some tropical rain here and there it was more of a relief from the heat than a hindrance …. Marcos ; Isabel and all the restaurant and activities staff went out of their way …. We will definitely book again hopefully in next 12 months considering it’s a hop ; skip and an effortless jump from SA….. Ron ; Stacy and Lyla

Idyllic setting, spacious accommodation. We booked a pool beach villa which we really enjoyed and found to be quite private. The air-con was very good. Lovely views from all the beach front rooms. Unfortunately there is little marine life in the immediate vicinity so we have to take a boat trip to paradise island which was great but at a cost. The boat transfer ran to schedule taking approx one hour. The food was ok, only one restaurant open each evening and we were often asked to order in advance which we didn’t particularly like. The hotel is under new management so moving forward I’m sure he will enhance the dining experience. We really enjoyed our trip.

We enjoyed our time at the resort because of the friendliness and professionalism of the staff looking after us. They went out of their way to accommodate and plan a birthday celebration for our group and we enjoyed our time poolside. ||The Bazaruto archipelago is remote, pristine and stunningly beautiful no matter where you look there is natural beauty everywhere. We were very fortunate to have this experience and thank the ones that made it possible.

Very frustrating experience - we booked this to visit in April but had to cancel due to Government travel advice. We were promised a refund but have still not had the refund processed for over 4 weeks. Very disappointing experience for a 5-star hotel. We've had to now pursue this through our bank.

The Staff are extremely friendly, welcoming and always ready to assist. The beach club has a wide variety of amenities aswell as a beautiful sunset view of the archipelago that you’ll never forget, accompanied with food like you can’t believe makes Anantara one of the top spots in the archipelago.

As the owner of a luxury travel agency, I expect the properties I partner with to provide seamless service, high-end hospitality, and swift issue resolution. Unfortunately, my client’s experience at Anantara Bazaruto fell short of these expectations. While the property itself is beautiful, the service inconsistencies created unnecessary frustration. Key concerns included: • Lack of clarity and miscommunication regarding the all-inclusive package, which led to initial confusion. • AC malfunction that, while eventually resolved, impacted the guest’s comfort. • Bar service complaints that were downplayed by management rather than properly addressed. While Anantara acknowledged some of these concerns, the overall response to these issues was disappointing, and no meaningful goodwill gesture was extended. A true luxury property should prioritize guest satisfaction and proactive resolution, especially when working with high-end travel advisors who bring repeat clientele. I cannot, in good faith, recommend this property to future FabuLUX clients unless service improvements are made. Luxury is about more than just aesthetics—it’s about exceptional service, attention to detail, and valuing guests’ experiences.
