My husband and I stayed one night at the hotel due to a recommendation. One word - HORRIBLE. The location of the hotel is in the center of everything which we thought would be a good idea but in hindsight it wasn't. It's loud and dirty outside but that was nothing compared to our experience inside the hotel.
We had FIVE pieces of luggage, all large, and had to have the concierge store them because we arrived early in the morning. When we were able to check into our room, the bellman literally took us into the storage room and then asked us if we needed help with our luggage. Really?
Then came our room. We were in a separate facility, far from everything and it felt very eerie. The very long hallway leading up to the room stunk very bad of mold. From our room we tried to call the front desk, concierge, anybody actually, and every speed dial on the phone for each department did not work.
We left our room to complain and low and behold the doors to our long hallway had been closed off - we could't figure it out at the time because the double doors in this long hallway had been open prior and also because the closed doors had no door knobs, handles, etc. We felt like we were "caged in" to this hallway in the very beginning but then finally realized that the doors to the hallway had been closed off and that we could open them.
As we left the hall and approached the elevator, we noticed it was not working. After standing there for a few minutes, we could hear a loud speaker emanating through the elevator door of an emergency evacuation. Geez. Thank goodness that my husband realized it was a drill - of course we knew nothing of this nor were we notified of it.
After complaining, we rec'd the phone numbers, etc. that we needed. I called room service to order a french press coffee because I had earlier seen a gentleman in the lobby with one. I was told they didn't have french press coffee and that's why a coffee maker with instant coffee was provided in the room, etc. Seemed strange to me because coffee was on the room service menu - although it didn't say french press. I was persistant and called again. The next time, the woman said she didn't know what french press coffee was. I explained and she then said she could send up a fresh pot of coffee but they didn't have french press. Hum.
We went to turn on the TV and it wouldn't turn on. After a few minutes we realized the remote didn't have any batteries. It took them 45 minutes to bring the batteries to our room.
We wanted to print out our boarding passes for our flight so we went to use the hotel's business center. The computer asked us for our room number, etc. so they could bill us. We went to the front desk and then were told that we could use a special code to get free access to print our boarding passes for free. Of course the code they gave us was no longer working. We had to walk back up to the front desk again for assistance. We went back to the business center and low and behold the printer indicated it needed ink!!!!!
As we left the next morning at 6:00 a.m., there was no concierge or bellman to be seen. The "free" coffee, fruit juice and pastries were a joke. There were no cups to get coffee and the carafe with the orange juice had at the most one cup left. Also, the pastries were literally just placed in a rattan bowl with no napkin or anything underneath the pastries nor anything covering them. I asked the front desk clerk for cups but of course they never arrived.
So after we checked out, we saw our taxi outside and proceeded to walk out the front door. Now, mind you, the front desk clerk could see us and knew we had just checked out. Well, we couldn't get out the front doors because they were locked!! We walked back to the front desk to ask them to unlock the doors. After exiting the hotel, we had to get back into the hotel because the taxi was for someone else. We couldn't get back in because the front doors locked behind us. Again we had to get the attention of the hotel front desk clerk to open the doors because we were stuck outside and this is after we lugged five pieces of luggage outside by ourselves due to the absence of the bellman, etc.
Ugh. Oh, also when we first arrived at the hotel, the concierge told us that the museum that we wanted to go to didn't open until 10:00 a.m. Since it was early in the morning and we needed to wait for our room, we decided to walk to the museum and get coffee along the way. Thank goodness we left early because the museum actually opened at 9:00 and we got there around 9:15. By 10:00 a.m. the line to get in was at least an hour wait! And by the way, we visited several museums that day and they all open at 9:00 a.m.
Three weeks earlier we stayed at The Pulitzer for two nights and loved it. However, we thought for the last leg of our trip, after our cruise, we'd try this hotel because it was so central. Wrong.
