"Why book? A completely modernized historic hotel with stories to tell, this centrally located grand dame of Amsterdam is stylish, purposeful, and full of surprises—and now finally with five-star service to match. Set the scene With the front façade and two popular ground-floor restaurants on the facing Dam Square, directly across from the National Royal Palace, the lobby here is bustling with locals and tourists—a mostly older, well-traveled crowd but there are some families with kids and a few younger, cosmopolitan types who might not be in the city for the coffee shops. And while you may not see them, the hotel also plays host to dignitaries and presidents—President Macron of France was there the week before our stay. The backstory This hotel is actually comprised of 55 canal houses stitched together, going from Dam Square in the front to the Oudezijds Voorburgwal canal in the back, leading to some idiosyncrasies like a bridge over an alleyway and multiple elevators going to different wings. In 1856, Mr. Adolph Wilhelm Krasnapolsky, who had been a tailor (hence the hotel bar named Bar the Tailor) first opened a coffee house on the site that is now Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky. As the café grew in popularity, he added rooms for rent, later rebuilding it into a modern hotel. Through the years, more buildings were bought and added to the hotel, which came under the Anantara flag in September 2022 following a renovation, bringing it to five-star status. The rooms Post renovation, rooms are contemporary and clean, in neutral grays and beiges, with comfortable lounge chairs and spacious bathrooms. Decorative embellishments mostly come in the form of sleek, boldly modern chandeliers and large-scale photographs of the city—the real star is out of the large windows, if you nab a room with either Dam Square or canal views. Our favorite detail was a copy of the coffee table book The Devil Is Old: A Photographic Ode to the Senior Citizens of Amsterdam in every room. There are several room types that work for families of various sizes but a regular premier room is perfectly suitable for two. Food and drink There are four dining options, each unique and worth visiting. Mornings start with a grand breakfast buffet in the grand Wintergarden, a conservatory-style plant-filled room with a lofty glass ceiling dating to 1880, offering hot and cold items from aged gouda to salmon rillettes to pancakes. At 4:45 pm, if you find yourself in the lobby you’ll be treated to the End of Day ceremony, where two bar masters perform a ritual with flaming alcohol to make a delicious cocktail they then serve to guests. After, follow them to Bar the Tailor, which is filled with tailoring references, from the décor to the menu, which changes its craft cocktails seasonally. For a more casual dining experience, head to the ground floor Grand Café Krasnapolsky, with windows facing Dam Square and sleek minimalist design. There you’ll find a seasonally inflected European menu (definitely ask for a visit from the cheese trolley filled with all Dutch cheeses), plus an adjacent Champagne Room and a fabulous Cake Room, turning out high-end pastries and chocolate truffles and sculptures. The feather in the hotel’s cap is the grand one-Michelin star White Room, derived from ‘De Witte Zaal’, the name that was given to the restaurant when it first opened in 1885, making it the oldest restaurant in Amsterdam still in its original condition. While the white and gold room is traditional, the cooking under chef Jacob Jan Boerma is modern and fresh, with a focus on bright, clean flavors. The spa Although the spa is small, it is still worth a visit for its sauna and steam rooms and to indulge in a treatment that utilizes Asian techniques (due to the fact that the hotel is under the Asian-owned Anantara brand) in one of the three cozy treatment rooms. However, the locker room is a bit too cozy, with men and women sharing the locker space and only very small, separated one-person changing rooms. The neighborhood/area The hotel is really in the heart of the city and its main square, with easy access to the colorful De Wallen district, a short walk to the Museumplein, and right by one of the busiest canals. It’s a touristy area for sure, but it’s nice to be able to walk back there from almost anywhere that might be on your list of attractions. The service Service is definitely at the ready now that it’s an Anantara—from the friendly reception to the bustling concierge desk that can help with car and restaurant bookings to competent bellhops and smiling restaurant wait staff, everyone is there to help. For families There are some great room configurations for families here and kids are welcomed with mini robes, kid friendly snacks, and there are cribs for babies. One night we even returned to our room to find cookies and milk for the kids and tea service for the parents. The Wintergarden and Grand Café are great for children, and we even had Bar the Tailor gladly serve our seven-year-old a special mocktail. The GM also shared that they are writing their own children’s book about the hotel, with proceeds going to a local orphanage.Accessibility Although the hotel is made up of several old buildings, there are ramps and elevators in place where needed. Anything left to mention? The hotel has several signature experiences, including a behind-the-scenes tour of a four-generation family atelier where diamonds are cut and polished; a visit to two city distilleries, one that has been making genever on site since 1679 and another more modern one that makes rum; and in spring there is a special Tulip Experience that takes guests in private transport to one of the famous tulip fields outside the city for a private picnic among the flowers, complete with caviar and Champagne." - Devorah Lev-Tov

Yelp
This hotel is so fancy that it is almost intimidating. You enter the doors to a concierge desk that will plan any trip you choose, and the check-in desk with the nicest employees. Every time you walk by an employee you get greeted which is very nice. I did not use the amenities, which I'm sure are great, but I did enjoy multiple days of the continental breakfast, which was so breathtaking I don't know how to describe the options they had. The breakfast service was also great with bringing coffee and cleaning plates. The rooms are very nice and clean. The shower might spray a little strong and create a puddle in the bathroom and the entryway outside the restroom. I advise putting it lower than halfway pressure and it is fine. When you log into the hotel wifi they have very convenient services as well, such as room service and housekeeping, among many other things. I took one star away because my room was in another wing of the building, so I had to take the main elevator to the first floor and walk across the bridge to take another elevator to my floor. It was especially great when the second elevator was under maintenance and I had to use the stairs. I know it is a very first-world problem but when paying for a five-star hotel convenience is everything.

Yelp
This was such a beautiful hotel in a very centralized location. The inside is nicely decorated and has a very luxury clean feel. The room was large, clean and very quiet. The balcony felt like an extension of the room. We were able to try two of the dining options offered here which was convenient as this was a short trip and it saved us time from traveling.

Yelp
Excellent facilities, stylish room, and proximal to cool venues for visitors Stayed at the historic Krasnapolsky for almost a week on a work visit mixed with some pleasure seeing of the sites. Perfect hotel for a combo visit. Super cool was that the airport is integrated with the transit system, so was able to exit the baggage area and step directly into a market with access to trains to downtown (or even other major European cities if you want to head that way). The staff are international and young. To a person, pleasant, professional, quick to help, and capable. Check-in was quick and she escorted me to my room. The space is small/medium sized with excellent design to use the space. Clean and very stylish, including a bathroom design I'm stealing for a future house. Bright in the day, dark at night. Closet space, safe, and desk space are hyper-functional and compact. Location is superb. Grand central station isn't far. Shopping is across the plaza to the West while the eatery areas are a turn out of the hotel doors t the North and East. Canal traffic and noise is down a full block on the Damstraat and I noticed how quiet it felt. Church from the 1200s is NW and a Basilica further N. Boat tours are N on the Damrak to a mini-port. Can walk to a couple bike rentals and the museums aren't too far if you're a good walker. Warning: I left early on account of delays at the airport that were in the news. It's real and some folks are waiting hours in lines just to get into the airport (3rd busiest in the world). Make the time to get through customs not miss your flight. Only knock I had was how much smoking and pot smoking occurs in Amsterdam. Didn't realize how chronic it is and how little we have of that in NorCal.

Yelp
Everything about this hotel is fantastic. From the cleanliness, beauty, and location... to the top notch team - we were so happy with our stay! Make sure to take advantage of the brunch, if you can! It truly had everything and anything you could ever ask for. Five stars across the board - thank you for a wonderful experience.

Yelp
***This review is for the apartments only (not hotel) part of Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky*** I visited Amsterdam for 7 nights and Krasnapolsky Apartments was the perfect accommodation for my husband, my toddler, and myself. Pros: - Very professional, friendly, and courteous staff. We fondly remember Esther, who checked us in and kept asking if we found everything OK. When we were having WiFi issues she came over in the late evening to help us and offered the premium WiFi to us complimentary (sadly that didn't work either). When we requested help or items, they responded pretty quickly - Our 1-bed apartment was awesome: Excellent central location 10 min walk from Central Terminal, elevator access, very spacious overall, living room faced the canal (wasn't loud at all), lots of sunlight, fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher/microwave/fridge, washer and dryer, tub with shower panels so you can bathe toddlers, huge king bed, pull out couch with full bed, crib provided at request (very small for newborns, not toddlers), extremely comfortable bedding and towels, fragrant toiletries, strong shower pressure with lots of hot water Cons: - While the WiFi is great at the hotel, it's terrible and almost non-existent in the apartments facing the canal. The staff knows about this issue, was apologetic and provided us with a discount for this problem. Hope they can fix this ASAP. - While very strong, the A/C unit sat right above our heads in the bedroom and got pretty noisy at night. - The pillows were very lumpy with little to no form so we woke up with sore necks. - We were informed that taxis to the airport from the hotel was 65€, but then our driver completely ripped us off and charged us 85€!!! Next time you must discuss and agree on the rate before you go into taxis, anywhere. Note: - Recommend bringing tide pods, sponge, dishwasher soap, and dishwasher pods if you plan to use all those appliances. Overall, loved our stay and highly recommend for families or travelers traveling light and need to do lots of laundry.

Yelp
We booked our second stay at krasnapolsky this September for my birthday. We added three more days because of changes in our plans, as advised by costumer service on email. When we checked in, it took a long time with the attendant claiming she was combining the bookings and that we'll have no problems. Yesterday we were blocked from entering our rooms and had to wait at the reception again, were treated rudely, told we don't have a second booking - after i showed the booking confirmation. When it was finally done, the manager dismissed us with no apologies. After paying for a 5 star hotel, i would expect better treatment and even compensation after being promised something by an attendant and then be halted in the middle of the stay.

Yelp
I stayed here on my first trip to Amsterdam and it did not disappoint! The rooms were very clean and modern. The staff was friendly and room service/cleaning was often. A very quiet yet hip place to visit and stay. The hotel is pretty much in the center of town everything happening/ what you would want to see for Amsterdam

Yelp
Very friendly check in. Fantastic location. I loved the comfy pressed sheets and ample pillows! A rare find in Europe, to my experience. 6 pillows to a bed! The water pressure and shower were very refreshing. Again, I've not always found that to be the case in Europe. Easy walking distance to everywhere you want to be. Or an easy uber ride, if the Holland weather is doing its usual thing. The only negative on my stay was a ticky tacky carnival ... a literal carnival... blasting Thriller and the Chicken Dance while blocking the majestic view of the palace. I have no idea why the city would approve this monster... Tip- hop on the walking tour departing frequently from the monument. Free and very informative.

Yelp
It's in the Dam Square in the heart of Amsterdam. Walking distance to shopping, sight seeing, Red Light District, etc. The hotel staff are great. Super A plus on customer service. The breakfast buffet is located in a big hall and very posh. They have a wry class restaurant inside for dinner as well. Their Bar was voted number 1 in Europe with extra ordinary cocktails. Very Posh. The rooms are new and very modern. Nespresso machines in the room, very nice toiletries.

Yelp
Loved our stay here! Greeted us with a delicious macaroon. The rooms are so nice and cozy! The bar was great and had great service and mixology drinks. Definitely get the mai-tai drink, it's sweet. Only issue we had was the hallway noise was loud and woke us up every morning.

Yelp
I HIGHLY recommend coming to this hotel if you want superb customer service and a beautiful room. We booked our room and paid about $250 for the night. We arrived early due to our flight. The room was not yet ready, but the lovely hotel staff upgraded up to an entire apartment to accommodate our stay. The concierge is very helpful and makes great recommendations and the rest of the staff is beyond polite. The rooms are clean and spacious and anything you ask for gets delivered to your room within minutes. They were even so kind to provide us with transformers for our electronic devices. This is in the heart of Amsterdam and there are plenty of shops, restaurants, and places to visit. Best possible experience and customer service goes above and beyond expectations. Thank you.

Yelp
Visited Ukraine and Amsterdam in June of this year. This hotel was AMAZING. As soon as we got off the plane in Amsterdam and went to the bathroom in the airport we knew we were in for a futuristic adventure in Amsterdam. We took the train from the airport which was fast to get to the stop for Amsterdam and then you take a tram type train to Dam square. When we arrived at our hotel it was gorgeous, and for the $ (or should I say euros you pay) it had better been. The reception staff was welcoming and always helpful if and when we had questions. The hotel has many wings so one elevator goes to 2nd floor on this side but if you're on the 2nd floor in another area of the hotel you took an entirely different elevator which you'd think would make things faster, less stops, but this was the only negative part of our experience here, how slow the elevators actually were. Figuring out how to swipe to get on the trains was interesting, having to go somewhere else to pay for a card and load it with enough money to get where you're going. Everything there is so high tech. A Americans we often think we are the best but man go to the Netherlands, Sweden etc and you'll feel like an 80 year old trying to use a cell phone. Getting to our room was gorgeous, the decor, furniture etc. Everything is so modern. We enter our room and I collapsed on the super comfy bed which was great until I had to pee. We couldn't figure out how to turn on the lights! We had to call the front desk and I felt like the biggest idiot even asking. So to turn on lights and have the A/C run you have turned put your door key into a slot on the wall just inside the door. Super energy efficient in terms of being "green". Downside for us is that the A/C stops running while you're gone so the room never truly cooled off but they were very accommodating in bringing us a fan before we figured out what the problem was. After that we left a room key in the slot in the room, made sure all lights were off and finally came back to a cooled off room. Sits right on Dam Square behind the Statue of Penis (I'm sure I didn't spell that correctly but that's what it is) which is the entrance to the red light district. Super high class hotel. You get what you pay for here. Plenty of places to eat in the area. My suggestion is to wonder out of the square and couple blocks and dining is much cheaper. A coffee on the square was listed at 4+ euros but they don't tell you it's for the small size, if you order a large it's 8+ euros. There are certain tourist catches and tricks restaurants do. Sometimes an English menu prices will be higher than a Dutch menu so best to get both and compare. If you call them on it they will charge you the lesser amount. Back to the hotel, super hough tech even with the toilets... no flush but above the toilet will be a short line you touch for #1 and a longer line for a #2, again how they save resources, and that started at the airport. After visiting here you'll realize how fast behind the US really is compared to the tray of the world. This hotel is centrally located for pretty much everything Amsterdam. The wax museum is directly across the square, lots of entertainers in the square, easy access to everything from the canal tours, red light district (even if you don't partake it's definitely something you have to experience), Anne Frank house, the madam wax museum etc.

Yelp
I stayed here for four nights as part of a conference booking. This hotel is in a great location in the centre of Amsterdam next to Dam Square. This is very much a 5* hotel with great facilities and very attentive staff (and a price per night to match!). One HUGE word of caution. If you're staying here and are booked into one of the annex building rooms, I'd recommend politely asking to be moved to a main building room. To access the annex you have to leave the main hotel building and walk across a passageway to the annex building. While there is secure access to the annex, I felt very uncomfortable taking my luggage across the passageway. There are drunks (and worse) in the alleyway and I felt the hotel should have some permanent security presence there for guests. I stayed in the annex the first night, and while the room is a good size and comfortable, it faced the main tourist street and was INCREDIBLY noisy. Even with earplugs in, I couldn't sleep for the noise. If you could step through the bedroom window, you'd be straight onto the tourist street, and the window glazing does nothing to stop noise. Amsterdam is a party town, so this noise doesn't abate at any time of day or night, either. Beware! After a pretty awful first night, I asked at reception for a new room and they offered a change of room without hesitation. I don't think I'm the first person to complain about the noise from the annex rooms. My stay for the remainder of the week was perfect. I had a 4th floor room that was lovely and quiet, with a big double bed, good facilities and a great bathroom. Breakfast is superb, with a lovely buffet and a omelette chef. A lovely way to start the day! Overall, I'd recommend this hotel but would suggest the management do some serious thinking about how to make the annex building more guest friendly - both from a security and noise perspective.

Yelp
I stayed here with my buddy for a New Years once. I love the central location. The lobby seemed small, and our room was up a bootleg set of stairs right past the lobby (there were 3 rooms up those steps!)- so I really didn't get a chance to see the hotel as a whole. It was interesting to say the least. I did not realize though that the main NYE party would be in the square where the hotel was- that was a plus- although it was fun trying to get back into the hotel that night (with all of the drunk and f'ed up people hanging out front). It is a nice hotel, with a great location, but if you can find a better deal, I am sure they are around in Amsterdam. One more plus- a block away from the Red Light District (if you are into that kind of thing)... Nothing beats going out for a walk at 9AM outside of you hotel and people asking you if you would like cocaine or ecstasy...

Yelp
Hotel was under construction in early June meaning we did not get to experience or stay in the old traditional parts of the hotel building. We were "upgraded" to a deluxe room meaning a modern room in another building. Breakfast room was super nice, live chef cook to order egg dishes and orange juice squeezer! Wow! I am totlally satisfied with everything, but had I known hotel was under construction I would have stayed somewhere else since I wanted to experience the old hotel building. Staying in the new modern part, I am sorry to say it was not worth the money spent.

Yelp
Truly the Best hotel I've ever booked with. I love this hotel not because it was the fanciest although it's VERY nice inside.. but because this is the most pleasant and comfortable stay I've ever had. Room service was the bomb. They would come like twice a day and everything would be spotless when I got back from a long day of exploring. Freshly made bed, new towels, soaps, shampoos, lotions, refills on the complimentary tea & coffee bar and they also stocked you everyday with fresh bottled water. If you used one little thing in that room, they would refill or stock it promptly. I never had to ask for anything. They also left a little stroopwafel cookie on each pillowcase every day. Oh the little things that make my heart happy, but you better believe I looked forward to that little stroopwafel lol. If you had any questions or requests they responded so swiftly. I never hung out in the hotel because I was always out exploring but it seemed to be popular. The bars inside and restaurants were always full and people hung out in the lounge areas throughout the day. Best of all, it was right in the center of Dam square. Within walking Distance of all surrounding areas. The only negative thing to say is that although we did have free WiFi, the signal was not the strongest but it did the job.

Christie S.

Yelp
The first time I stayed at the GHK was 25 years ago and at that time, it was indeed grand. Flying to Europe regularly with my bestie's Buddy Passes made for many excellent adventures. In the past decade, like Nora Desmond, the Grand Dame has lost some of her luster. In total, I've stayed here more than half a dozen times for more than 3 weeks total and never had a major problem. The location cannot be beat: it is literally at the center of Dam Square which is central to many points of interest, transportation and just a cool spot. It is older, the last visit the rooms were showing age, but they were renovating. The staff has always been top notch, and the breakfast buffet while sparse compared to the past is still quite a spread in the very beautiful Winter Garden (solarium) Mathilde Restaurant overlooks Dam Square and is popular and quite good fine dining. Will probably stay here again if price is right, it is not too fancy, but a solid place to rest. Love the extra large bathtubs as your feet take a beating pounding the Amsterdam streets.

Yelp
This hotel is beautiful!!! 5 stars for the amazing service. The employees are all incredibly sweet & attentive I will definitely come back! Free wifi throughout entire hotel & refreshments in the lobby it's beautiful. Must see

Yelp
I had done a 3/4 day trip in Amsterdam with my mum last year. We stayed at the Grand Krasnapolsky Hotel and WOW! The views are AMAZING! Everything from the hotel room, the restaurant, the lobby, and the quiet smoking area... IS Gorgeous! I am SO READY to go back!

Nicole L.

Yelp
The only reason I am giving this hotel 4 stars instead of 5 is because while it is super nice, there is nothing that makes this hotel extra special. Yes, this hotel is beautiful. The lobby is huge and there is free coffee, tea, water, and macarons at all times of the day. The staff is super friendly and was very helpful when giving recommendations. The hotel is also in an AMAZING location..it is seriously in the middle of the city!! The farthest thing from the hotel is about a 30 minute walk. There is really no location better than this one. The hotel room was pretty nice. My sister and I shared a hotel room and my parents had their own room. The rooms were pretty large and they were pretty. Only issue with them...the "queen" beds were just two twins pushed together. The breakfast looked super nice and yummy, but it was very very over priced. It was 26 euros a person and for us, that is a little much when there are tons of cute cafes right near the hotel where you can get breakfast for 15 euros at maximum a person. Overall, I recommend this hotel. It is nice and in a good location!!!

Erika S.

Yelp
The service I got was absolutely wonderful. They accommodated me in every way possible when my room wasn't ready earlier than check-in. Super sweet and kind. The location is obviously the best in the whole city if you want to be a tourist in that particular area. The hotel was very clean, the room was great- super comfortable and a good size. The mirrors that opened or closed off the bathroom was my favorite part! I also ordered food from room service and it was GREAT. I didn't like the glass doors in the bathroom... you cannot see through them, but you don't really get much privacy otherwise, if you know what I mean! And for whatever reason, the restroom didn't smell that clean when I arrived. I think the price is mostly due to location, so keep that in mind. It's a great hotel, but not a good choice if you aren't trying to splurge.

AJ D.

Yelp
The Krasnapolsky is a great option right in the center of the action in Amsterdam. We walked to everything! The best parts of the hotel are the bar and the breakfast buffet. First, the breakfast. It's ridiculous. Set in a beautiful atrium space with every food item you can imagine. Chocolate fountain, fresh omelettes, charcuterie, pastries galore. The ladies working there are the sweetest and so helpful. Thank you for your smiling faces every morning Shiela, Aida, and Jocelyn! Next, the bar - Super creative cocktails and friendly bartenders (Diogo is awesome!). There is one drink that comes in an old book that arrives smoking.

Stephanie F.

Yelp
Checked in this afternoon after flying for 10 hours. We were greeted by Daniele at the reception desk and couldn't have been more pleased. Not only was she pleasant and polite but she acted as if there wasn't 12 other people waiting. She gave us her undivided attention even showing us to the elevators. (I don't mind waiting in line if I can get that treatment). We had a 6th floor suite with a balcony over looking the city (which we were in the center of). The room is spacious and clean, the bed comfortable, and the breeze from the terrace was refreshing. The location couldn't be more perfect. Shopping, coffee shops, cafes, restaurants, and anything else your heart desires is within a short walking distance. A great place to stay in Amsterdam!!

Amanda S.

Yelp
So far so good staying here! Came here with five other girlfriends and originally booked for connecting rooms, but when we spoke to the check-in counter, they didn't have it anymore. Quite unfair to change on us, so we spoke up and had them try to do something about it but all they could do was put us on the same floor. The only reason i deducted a star. Was told she also upgraded us due to the situation but our rooms don't feel very "upgraded". We have a window view of the rooftops and the rooms are all the same sizes - so not sure what part is an upgrade. Aside from that, this hotel is at the heart of Amsterdam so once you step out, there's lots to see and explore. There's lots of lounge seating in the lobby so you can wait for friends at a meeting spot and it is located next to their breakfast/pastry shop across the registration desk. Super in love with this cute outdoor patio as you walk along the hallway to the elevators to the rooms - suggest checking out but people do go out there to smoke tobacco. As for the rooms, they're small for the price but i think small beds and rooms are how Amsterdam rolls. There's a TV, desk, Bose Bluetooth speakers, safety box, one complimentary sparkling water (which i wish they had a still water option to be fair) and a cute little bathroom stocked with shower amenities. My friend and i pushed our beds together so we had more space to sleep but overall decent sleep and stay. Clean and good location.

Debbie L.

Yelp
Only giving four stars because this hotel should be a total five star but it falls short a little bit here and there. Check in was smooth and easy and we were told we got a upgrade. Room seemed pretty standard so I am curious what the upgrade was from Room was totally fine. Standard in size. Two twin beds pushed together when I requested a king. Our adult children were in the exact same room next door. Bathrooms are sort of modern. Nice. View was of the bar and since the room was warm, we had to open the window and it was a little bit nosy here and there. Annoying. There was no turn down service. When I called and asked for it, they told me sure but that night when we got back to the room, the room was just supplied with extra towels, but not cleaned. Overall prices are very reasonable. Not sure why many people said it was expensive. Thought it was not. Booked our room on booking. Com and would recommend for a fair priced room. But this hotel is actually steps away from a five star, so thank you!!!!

Yelp
I recently stayed at this hotel. My assistant who made the reservation made a mistake on the checkout date. The hotel called me to ask when I was checking out. At that time, we identified the error in the reservation. The hotel said that they could extend my stay 1 night in which I was very thankful. The next morning when I checked out I was given the bill for my stay. The hotel charged me double the rate (over $600 for the night) I had been paying to stay the 1 extra night. They did not disclose that to me when they informed me that they could extend my stay. Had I known that I was going to be charged 2X the rate, I would have switched hotels. The hotel refused to refund the difference.

Yelp
1) this is not your quaint old European hotel - its a huge very modern facility more suitable for conventions than vacation. 2) multiple miscommunications included room placement, keys that didn't work, and finally a concierge that lost the request for baggage management at departure. 3) for the product: overpriced. 500/night for a "superior" room that was small even for Europe standards. 4) good general manager: Melanie, who did her best to solve the problems and in fact did a really good job with an apology and upgrades. Bottom line: Would I stay here again? No, not my style, location or size preference, and that's not their fault. Would I stay if I were at a conference there, yes, but I'd price carefully nearby hotels as well.

Yelp
A pretty quiet place for being in a busy location, near the Dam Square and the Frickin' train station.

Yelp
Nasty hotel. The lobby and front desk are designed to wow, but once you get into the dark hallways and rooms prepare to be sorely disappointed. For 250+ euro/night you'd expect better than scratchy sheets, hair on the counters, peeling wallpaper, cracked ceilings, dingy upholstery, and the list could go on. Forget the location -- this shitty hotel isn't worth it. Save your time and money and run away fast. There are dozens of better options for far less money. Worst part? It's non refundable!! We booked 4 days online and are stuck!

Yelp
We had an amazing experience of luxury and outstanding customer service. I would highly recommend this hotel. It is in the center of all the excitement yet peaceful and quiet in your room. I can't say enough about the staff. They are absolutely wonderful.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this hotel. It is in the perfect location-- walking distance to just about everything. You are close to the red light district and tons of nightlife, but you are also close to the museums, Heineken experience, Vondelpark, shopping, restaurants, etc. The customer service was awesome; everyone I interacted with was so nice and accommodating. Our room was $250/night and was huge (especially for Amsterdam) and very nice. They even upgraded us to a nicer suite just out of kindness. The breakfast buffet is a reasonably priced and goes on daily from 7am-11am. The entire staff was so attentive; someone would call our room daily just to ask if we needed any additional amenities. I can't recommend this hotel enough; 5 stars for cleanliness, comfort, location, and customer service. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Really good location and the room was recently refurbished, I only stayed for 1 night on business but would definitely stay again and recommend to others who are looking for a moderately priced hotel in a very central location. The free wifi isn't the fastest but is good enough for email and web browsing. An extra €25 for breakfast felt a bit steep. The room was quiet and comfortable and had a fairly decent view, overall I was happy with the hotel considering the price I paid.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed one night at the hotel due to a recommendation. One word - HORRIBLE. The location of the hotel is in the center of everything which we thought would be a good idea but in hindsight it wasn't. It's loud and dirty outside but that was nothing compared to our experience inside the hotel. We had FIVE pieces of luggage, all large, and had to have the concierge store them because we arrived early in the morning. When we were able to check into our room, the bellman literally took us into the storage room and then asked us if we needed help with our luggage. Really? Then came our room. We were in a separate facility, far from everything and it felt very eerie. The very long hallway leading up to the room stunk very bad of mold. From our room we tried to call the front desk, concierge, anybody actually, and every speed dial on the phone for each department did not work. We left our room to complain and low and behold the doors to our long hallway had been closed off - we could't figure it out at the time because the double doors in this long hallway had been open prior and also because the closed doors had no door knobs, handles, etc. We felt like we were "caged in" to this hallway in the very beginning but then finally realized that the doors to the hallway had been closed off and that we could open them. As we left the hall and approached the elevator, we noticed it was not working. After standing there for a few minutes, we could hear a loud speaker emanating through the elevator door of an emergency evacuation. Geez. Thank goodness that my husband realized it was a drill - of course we knew nothing of this nor were we notified of it. After complaining, we rec'd the phone numbers, etc. that we needed. I called room service to order a french press coffee because I had earlier seen a gentleman in the lobby with one. I was told they didn't have french press coffee and that's why a coffee maker with instant coffee was provided in the room, etc. Seemed strange to me because coffee was on the room service menu - although it didn't say french press. I was persistant and called again. The next time, the woman said she didn't know what french press coffee was. I explained and she then said she could send up a fresh pot of coffee but they didn't have french press. Hum. We went to turn on the TV and it wouldn't turn on. After a few minutes we realized the remote didn't have any batteries. It took them 45 minutes to bring the batteries to our room. We wanted to print out our boarding passes for our flight so we went to use the hotel's business center. The computer asked us for our room number, etc. so they could bill us. We went to the front desk and then were told that we could use a special code to get free access to print our boarding passes for free. Of course the code they gave us was no longer working. We had to walk back up to the front desk again for assistance. We went back to the business center and low and behold the printer indicated it needed ink!!!!! As we left the next morning at 6:00 a.m., there was no concierge or bellman to be seen. The "free" coffee, fruit juice and pastries were a joke. There were no cups to get coffee and the carafe with the orange juice had at the most one cup left. Also, the pastries were literally just placed in a rattan bowl with no napkin or anything underneath the pastries nor anything covering them. I asked the front desk clerk for cups but of course they never arrived. So after we checked out, we saw our taxi outside and proceeded to walk out the front door. Now, mind you, the front desk clerk could see us and knew we had just checked out. Well, we couldn't get out the front doors because they were locked!! We walked back to the front desk to ask them to unlock the doors. After exiting the hotel, we had to get back into the hotel because the taxi was for someone else. We couldn't get back in because the front doors locked behind us. Again we had to get the attention of the hotel front desk clerk to open the doors because we were stuck outside and this is after we lugged five pieces of luggage outside by ourselves due to the absence of the bellman, etc. Ugh. Oh, also when we first arrived at the hotel, the concierge told us that the museum that we wanted to go to didn't open until 10:00 a.m. Since it was early in the morning and we needed to wait for our room, we decided to walk to the museum and get coffee along the way. Thank goodness we left early because the museum actually opened at 9:00 and we got there around 9:15. By 10:00 a.m. the line to get in was at least an hour wait! And by the way, we visited several museums that day and they all open at 9:00 a.m. Three weeks earlier we stayed at The Pulitzer for two nights and loved it. However, we thought for the last leg of our trip, after our cruise, we'd try this hotel because it was so central. Wrong.

Yelp
I will agree with the previous poster that the breakfast is overpriced for what it is. I rather pay $45 for breakfast at a Steigenberger Hotel which has a world class breakfast, than 26 Euros for a mediocre breakfast at the Krasnapolsky. Checking in and out was a major pain. Don't expect to see any of the lines move fast. They just don't have enough people to take care of the checking out or the luggage, so for you to wait 30 minutes is quite likely at certain times. The room was okay. I was here for work and had a nice room, but a colleague of mine literally paid $1000 for a room and got one of the ones in the back building that's around the corner (where the red light district starts).

Yelp
For 200 or so Euro, the GHK is just fine. The good.... It's in Dam Square...centrally located to the tourist spots most families are interested in visiting. It sits right on the edge of the Red Light District (and actually is somewhat an island in a raging river). The bar is quite nice, the bartender was friendly and it was a comfortable place to watch the European Football Cup away from the Red Light District crazies. It's fairly priced for where it sits and for what you get.... The not so good.... The rooms are showing their age. While the bathroom had a door, the toilette had a stall door that made you feel like you were having your constitutional in a public restroom. The bathtub was much larger than most Euro bathtubs in similarly priced hotels are, but it was in a dark corner and relatively uninviting. We're somewhat spoiled because we often travel to Europe on business and stay in much nicer digs or we use our millions of loyalty points to stay free in nicer hotels. Again, for the price, it's a fine place to stay in Amsterdam.

Yelp
I stayed here for 3 nights on a business conference. Checking the reviews only now, I am amazed at some of he negative comments. The highlight for me was the staff friendliness and willingness and ability to help! From an early check in, complimentary room upgrade, to checkout and going out of their way to make arrangements when my pre-booked taxi did not arrive - at 7.24 am ! I guess the decor can do with some updating, but it is not shabby either. The service and location means that I will definitely return.

Yelp
Went to Krasnapolsky for a company event - all day long kick off meeting finished with a dinner. Our meeting took place in a Ballroom meeting room and it looked really good, well prepared for our big group. Lunch was provided in a buffet form in a breakfast area. The quality of food for lunch wasnt the best..chicken and fish were very dry and the variety of other choices was pretty limited for 5star hotel. The dinner itself was ok, but nothing spectacular or very good. Overall feeling - hotel needs a lot of refurbishment to keep the quality and value that should be provided with 5 star name. For example the toilets next to a big meeting room look like the ones you would find at the big airport or gym, not in this class of the hotel.

Yelp
Worst high priced hotel I have been. Corner rom is as small as an elevator. Don't be fooled by high price and fancy name.

Yelp
I got stuck at the NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky when my flight out of Schiphol was canceled. The hotel is apparently five star (according to their web site) which I find very difficult to believe. The hotel itself is run-down and the rooms were probably nice a decade ago. It feels more like a standard three star hotel. The only thing that seems five star is the abundance of staff and perhaps the exterior of the main building. I was first put in a terrible smoking room (the walls were all yellow from people smoking). After several lies from the front desk staff about there not being another room one was all of sudden made available when I requested to speak to management. The room I was put in was decent but not very new. It was not especially big and it was difficult to sit at the desk since the bed was so close to it. The bathroom was pretty ok and the toiletries were nice (big positive that they provide toothbrush and razor - if it was not for that and the fact that I am a bit forgiving due to the chaotic circumstances it would have been rated a one). Whatever you do avoid eating at the hotel. The food for dinner was almost inedible. I had to fill up on bread since everything else tasted horrible. The breakfast was slightly better but not much - everything hot at the breakfast buffet should be avoided since it had been standing there for way to long (and I showed up 10 minutes after breakfast officially started). The cold things were ok but nothing special. Most of the fruit had been in some sugar syrup first so it was way to sweet. The best thing about the hotel is the location. It is smack in the center of Amsterdam, close to the train station, many sights, shopping and restaurants and bars. I am not sensitive about noise but if you are it could perhaps be a problem at night (a colleague of mine complained about a lot of drunk people screaming outside at night). I could however never recommend anyone staying here as there are so many better hotels in Amsterdam that are much cheaper than this.

Yelp
This was my first time staying in Amsterdam, which I was visiting with a group of friends for Gay Pride. If it was possible, I would give this place 3 1/2 stars, and here's why: Positives - The location of this hotel was great. It's about as central as you can get, walking distance from everything that we wanted to do and see while we were in town. The hotel itself has a pretty cool history, and the building facade is beautiful. Another plus was the extremely friendly staff. Granted, our primary interaction was during checkin and checkout, but we found all the employees we dealt with to be polite, friendly, and welcoming. The room was extremely clean, and the bed was very comfortable. Negatives - The hotel definitely needs some refurbishing to be on par with other hotels in its price range. While the room itself was very clean and comfortable, it looks a little worse for the wear (that is, by 5-star standards). I felt there was a certain air of faded glamor about it. With a bit of sprucing up, the rooms would be stunning, but it seemed to me that nothing like that had taken place for some time. Overall, I was glad that we had picked it, but I'm not sure if we would stay there again on our next trip. Now that I am more familiar with Amsterdam, I would likely do some research to see if there is a better value for the money.

Yelp
I stayed here in April 2015 so the hotel was very overpriced for what it should have been. I payed 300 US dollars a night for a tiny little room on the 4th floor which was nice. It was also overlooking the red light district and the the old church.

Yelp
The service level is way below 5 stars. The bed linen are either synthetic or washed with very strong chlorid. We both had itching skin, and tried to change the linen, but nothing was done. Bellboy came and shrugged, nothing happened. When checking out, we forgot a pair of size 40 silver sandals. After 4 hours we realized we forgot the shoes, talked to the front desk and an assistant, the shoes were gone from the room, but they promised to investigate and to contact us the next day. we never heard anything. Check in lines were long, and asking for 2 keys for 2 people in the room was met with a sigh and a comment from the front desk staff that she did not have too many keys, and needed to go to the back office to get more. The hotel is centrally located, with a bustling scene outside. In july, the scene was mostly consistent of teenage / young adult travellers roaming around. All good, but, for a more relaxed experience i would choose something else.

Yelp
I am super upset to have had my room robbed by hotel staff only to be told there is nothing they would do about it and to go to the police. It was cheap jewelry and books, totaling about $400. No apology, no compensentation, just extremely rude treatment from the staff. This destroyed the final day of my vacation and stopped me from being able to enjoy my last day while dealing over 4 hours with this BS.

Yelp
This is a nice property that borders the red light district and faces Dam square. Our conference was here so I can't speak to the rooms, but I can say that the food service and employees were great. I had broken my pickled herring cherry at the hotel under the watchful eye of a Dutch beauty named Sara. She was encouraging and even explained the nature of the bread underneath. Then the Kroketten balls came out and we quickly forgot about the herring. Kroketten is awesome.

Yelp
Figured I would post a review just prior to NYr's...since the square in front of this place is kind of like NYC Times Square... Definitely a great hotel for New Years ! I think... a very nice hotel...reasonable daily parking rates..although cheaper to self park near by...rooms I have stayed in were large by Euro standards..quiet... Not 5 star service..but very nice people...sometimes so called "5 Star" service is just irritatingly intrusive... Location is very good...but...unless you are Arnhem or something..every location is a good location in this city :) For my unsophisticated tastes...a decent value...of the many places I have stayed in A-Dam...while not my favorite...one of the places I would return to !

Yelp
I stayed here last year and was surprised by the new lobby. I kind of miss the old cramped lobby, but can't help but realize the new open lobby is much better. The rooms are efficient and the location is the best in Amsterdam. If you want to be in the middle of the action this is the best place.

Yelp
Got to be a mixed review for this place as the hotel itself is not bad, but the service from the staff is awful. Firstly the location is good if you want to be right in the centre of things. A ten min walk from the station and easy enough to get to all the main tourist sites. If it is sunny then Dam Square fills up and creates quite a good atmosphere outside the hotel. The decor and rooms inside are nice & clean and as you would expect for a hotel of this size and star rating. The bad.. I was here for work. They billed me twice, once on the company credit card and once on my personal. This was despite me asking threes times to make sure this would not happen and getting assured all was fine. I could just tell they were making a mess of it and yet nobody would listen. It took me weeks and several emails before it got sorted and It was through efforts to resolve it at my end, rather than any real help from hotel staff. Really really poor customer service.

Tara E.

Yelp
My husband and I traveled here for New Year's and absolutely loved this hotel, everything was perfect! The staff was friendly, the room was comfortable and newly renovated and the location is the best! The service we received was top notch and they surprised us with rose petals and chocolate in our room upon check in knowing that we were traveling to Amsterdam as newlyweds. We loved everything about Amsterdam and will definitely return and stay at the Krasnapolsky again. I highly recommend for couples, families and friends. It is well located right in Dam Square and close to everything you would want to see and do in Amsterdam. The restaurant on site is also great! There doesnt seem to be a profile for the restaurant on-site because it is fairly new but we ate here for New Year's Eve, we had an exceptional meal for a great price. We were very happy with the 5-course menu and wine pairings with each course and we were happy we chose here as our restaurant for NYE. We also came for high tea in the afternoon and were very pleased with the selection and the service. Can't wait to come back here for another visit.

Yelp
Upgrade of my life. Stayed with 3 friends and we were upgraded to one of the apartments. 2 bedrooms/floors, living room, dining washer and dryer. What's more is the location it's central to Amsterdam, you can easily walk the city from here. The staff at the hotel is quite an exceptional team. Both courteous and insightful the staff provided details of the city with a smile.

Yelp
We liked this place. There was a big carnival in Dam Square when we were there, but I think even if there hadn't been, it would have been noisy and filled with tourists. Our room was in the back (we were told, as many people are, that it was an upgrade), so the noise didn't bother us. Location is excellent for everything up by Central Station, but a further walk to the Rijksmuseum area. Yes, you can walk to the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh, but it's maybe 20-25 minutes. Pleasant, though. Very good location for Oude Kerk, Nieuwe Kerk, et al. We had hoped for a king-size bed; they pushed two mattresses together and made it up as one bed, but it's not quite the same. Very sweet and helpful people, though. For anything that seemed like a letdown, there was a friendly surprise. They checked us in very early, and they didn't owe us that. Wandering up the main floor, we ran into a lady carrying a tray of chocolates (probably for some conference), and she cheerfully stopped us to share some samples. Very nice. Bar has absinthe, and I'm told they will burn it for you, which U.S. bars don't anymore. And my wife loves the fragrance in the hand lotions this chain provides, so we won all around. I'd go back, especially for a conference of any kind, though for personal travel I might try a quieter neighborhood next trip. Fun staff, fun times!
