"Ease of access makes this resort classic fly-and-flop territory, with a location just a 20-minute drive from Phuket International Airport that lets you be stretched out on a padded lounger within an hour of landing. The appeal goes beyond convenience, though: much of the property is given over to a lilypad-dotted lagoon filled with monitor lizards and flowers, and a long golden-sand beach lapped by fun-sized waves adds to the sense of being immersed in nature. Privacy is a major draw, as each of the 83 huge villas is enclosed by tall walls and contains a sizable outdoor pool, shaded sala, and stone outdoor bathtub big enough for two, with elegant, pared-back interiors enhancing the calm. Treatment rooms strung out across the lagoon make the spa especially serene, families gravitate to relaxed beachside dining, and for a more grown-up evening there’s a treehouse Japanese omakase restaurant where the fish is freshly flown in from Japan." - Chris Schalkx, Hannah Summers

"Real fly-and-flop territory—touch down at the airport, and you’ll be at the gates of Anantara Mai Khao in just 20 minutes and sipping iced coffee by your pool shortly after that. Compared to other luxe hotels on the island—many of which can be a two-hour drive away in heavy traffic—this alone could be a reason to stay. The rooms are huge. All 83 of the standalone structures are private villas with high walls and extensive outdoor terraces (with loungers and shaded sala), huge pools, bedrooms, and bathrooms. Thoughtful design touches include sliding glass doors separating your living space and pool, and a huge stone outdoor bathtub (big enough for two) separated from the pool by a glass panel, allowing you to slip between hot soaks and cooling dips. The real star of a stay here is a meal at the Tree House, a Japanese omakase built into the branches of an ancient banyan tree. You can choose to dine at a table, gazing out over the gardens, but the more exciting seat is at the counter, watching the chefs prep ingredients that have recently jetted in from Japan. There's a spa and a kids club, as well as a babysitting service if parents are in need of a night off, and while the hotel isn’t the White Lotus hotel, the resort will likely be even more popular because of it." - Chris Schalkx, Lee Cobaj
"The location of Belinda’s Wellness Centre in the show, offering a serene and luxurious environment."
"According to Bloomberg, this series will also feature a second hotel as its filming location: the Anantara Mai Khao Villas in Phuket. These stunning pool villas offer guests a sleek, tranquil escape just beyond Phuket's longest beach."
"A large private pool, an outdoor tub for two, and an alfresco dining sala are standard room fare at this resort built along Phuket’s longest beach. The 83 high-ceilinged villas are done up with natural fibers, and there are plenty of plush components: a pillowtop bed canopied by mosquito netting, a walk-in closet, an expansive bathroom with French doors leading to the outdoor soak, as well as overwater decks with daybeds in some villas. Landscape artist Bill Bensley lavished the grounds with indigenous greenery but kept the look authentic. In between the copious breakfast spread and sunset cocktails in the Infinity Bar, guests can venture out for cave canoeing, diving, or touring a village being rebuilt since the 2004 tsunami. A packed schedule of on-site activities includes power walks, batik painting, tai chi, and basic sailing."
