The Best Hotels in the Seychelles

"Anantara, best known for its hotels and resorts throughout Asia, made its Seychelles debut with Anantara Maia Seychelles Villas. All 30 thatched-roof villas are identical in terms of size and layout, measuring an impressive 2,691 square feet each. Entrance is through a tall wooden door and stone pathway, leading to a wealth of picture-perfect indoor and outdoor spaces.  Outside, first find a covered, open-air dining and living area, mini-kitchen and bar, where a fridge remains fully stocked with your favorite wines. An infinity pool provides an idyllic spot for soaking in the scene and appreciating the Seychelles’s splendor. Anatara Maia Seychelles Villas

"Why book? Thai-based hotel brand Anantara brings excellence to the Seychelles through a rebrand of a 30-villa, Bill Bensley–designed hideaway on a private peninsula fringed by white-sand beaches and towering granite boulders. Set the scene Along the southwest coast of the Seychelles main island of Mahé, the hillside resort occupies 30 acres, situated on a dreamy, petite peninsula separating Anse Louis and Anse Boileau. A key theme here is ultra-privacy, which is evidenced by design and operation. Sprinkled among the forest-cloaked hillside and beachfront gardens are 30 thatched villas, measuring 2,691 square feet each complete with slick, transitional indoor-outdoor spaces, including a lengthy infinity pool, and fabulous views of the Seychelles’ iconic ocean blues. A dedicated Villa Host is assigned exclusively to each villa and serves as concierge, server, room attendant, personal assistant and more. A “Beyond All Inclusive” policy means all food and beverage (alcoholic and non) are included and can be enjoyed in-villa in addition to the main restaurant, Tec Tec. Given this set up of wanting for nothing in a private villa, it’s no surprise that many guests choose to stay put. They’ll journey out for a bit of spa or beach time, but luxuriate mostly “at home.” When you do spot other guests, you’ll see that you are sharing the resort equally with jet-setting couples seeking romance and well-heeled families looking to spend time together. The backstory Anantara, best known for its hotels and resorts throughout Asia, made its Seychelles debut with Anantara Maia Seychelles Villas. It’s the brand’s seventh property in the Indian Ocean, joining two resorts in Sri Lanka, one in Mauritius and three in the Maldives. Instead of a new build, Anantara took over, rebranded, and refreshed one of the Seychelles’ most exclusive properties, Maia Luxury Resort & Spa, which opened in September 2006 to a groundswell of rave reviews. The property was designed by Bill Bensley and Lek Bunnag, two of the world’s top luxury resort and hotel architects, who brought a coastal Asian-influenced aesthetic  to the prehistoric beaches of Africa (The Seychelles’ boulder-strewn Inner islands represent the last remaining landscapes of 75-million-year-old supercontinent Gondwana.) In late 2020, Anantara acquired the resort, added an Anantara Spa, did a soft refresh of the property, and introduced the much-loved “Beyond All Inclusive” policy.  The rooms All 30 thatched-roof villas are identical in terms of size and layout, measuring an impressive 2,691 square feet each. Entrance is through a tall wooden door and stone pathway, leading to a wealth of picture-perfect indoor and outdoor spaces.  Outside, first find a covered, open-air dining and living area, mini-kitchen and bar, where a fridge remains fully stocked with your favorite wines. An infinity pool provides an idyllic spot for soaking in the scene and appreciating the Seychelles’ splendor. The infinity pool segues to a second, ornamental pool with a deep, soaking bathtub at its core, flanked by chaise loungers, partially submerged in the water. Indoors, the bedroom exudes understated elegance, marked by carved natural stone, and intricate woodwork, and connects to a colossal bathroom, where the maxi-sized Hermès Bath Collection amenities are yours for the keeping.  Where the villas differ are the views: some are situated hilltop, lending to more sweeping ocean vistas, while those closer to sea level peninsula see a bit less water and more foliage but offer a comparative advantage of direct beach access. Villa rates start at $2,879 per night. Food and drink The resort has a single open-air restaurant, Tec Tec, but its menus are many. Options span dozens of (digital) pages and multiple cuisines from Creole to Mediterranean to Indian (It’s also possible to request off-menu items.) The variety is so great it would be hard to try everything over a week, even if overindulging (and trust us, once you try the food, you’ll want to gorge!). All menu items are available in-villa and there are no set times for ordering or limits thanks to the “Beyond All Inclusive” concept. Those staying in a Premier Villa for more than 3 nights are also privy to unlimited Dining by Design, meaning that meal experiences can be set up on the beach, in the garden—basically anywhere you’d like on property—for no extra charge.  The spa At the Anantara Spa, find a fully-equipped TechnoGym fitness center plus three, open-air, thatched-roof treatment pavilions, dressed in colorful daybeds and wooden accents. Therapists hail from Thailand and Bali and deliver the best in therapies from their native countries alongside spa mainstays and more. One treatment to try is The Maia Signature Massage, which is a long-stroke and stretch-heavy treatment developed specifically for the resort. Another standout of this spa is a kids’ wellness menu, which includes treatments like the Happy Feet foot scrub and massage, and allows the family that travels together to spa together. The neighborhood/area Given its location on a private peninsula and its allure of ultra-privacy, the resort feels like its own private community.  Those heading off property, can walk to Anse Boileau, a small fishing village a few minutes away, with a local market and a Catholic church. A quick taxi or rental car can get you one of the island’s myriad hiking trails, renowned sites like Jardins Du Roi spice garden and museum, and the capital of Victoria. The resort can also arrange day trips to neighboring islands. The service The service at Anantara Maia is tops, thanks mainly to the role of the designated Villa Host. Of course there are dozens more working behind the scenes to make your stay a memorable one, but this host is your first point of contact, available 24/7 by What’s App. The Villa Host is for your villa–and yours only–and is based on-property to anticipate any and all needs. As someone who has tested out butler and hosting services at the world’s foremost resorts, Maia truly ranks among the best. Our Villa Host, Dolores, was a sheer delight and made the difference between an excellent and a thoroughly amazing stay.  For families It’s true that the setting feels utterly romantic, but there are plenty of families who also appreciate Maia. Those traveling with teens tend to choose neighboring Premier Beach Pool Villas, which interconnect through the garden. Those with tykes and tots can opt for a single Premier Beach Villa, which accommodates two adults and two children up to the age of 17. While there’s no Kid’s Club per se, the resort offers a Very Important Kids Program, tailor made to include water sports, cooking, painting and more, all supervised by the recreation team. Professional babysitters, with whom the resort regularly works with, are also on call and available by the hour.  Eco effort In partnership with NGO Marine Conservation Society Seychelles (MCSS), Anantara Maia conducts quarterly beach clean ups and has developed a long-term sea turtle monitoring program on Anse Louis beach, a nesting beach for Hawksbill and Green turtles. Anything left to mention? The in-villa luxuries and Maia’s idyllic setting make it hard to leave the premises, but the island of Mahe—and the Seychelles overall—are epic destinations. Complement a leisurely stay at Maia with a few nights at a mid-range hotel, during which you can engage in active pursuits, island hop, and fully experience the Seychelles’ unparalleled natural beauty." - Paul Rubio

We spent a week at Anantara Maia Seychelles Villas for our honeymoon, and the experience was absolutely wonderful.||Our villa was stunning! Beautifully designed and the outdoor area was a true sanctuary. Private, peaceful, and it feels like you are in the jungle, it gave us a sense of freedom and space that made our honeymoon feel incredibly special.||We were looked after by our butler, Dian, who was simply amazing. Always smiling, kind, and made everything run so smoothly for us. She helped us relax and enjoy every moment without having to think too much. Thank you!||Most of our meals were enjoyed in the villa, and from breakfast to dinner, the food was consistently delicious and there was plenty of variety.||The massages at the spa were also excellent, deeply relaxing and exactly what we needed after months of planning and organizing our wedding.||A small note: the villa pool wasn’t heated, which made it a little refreshing at times, but in the warm Seychelles weather, this wasn’t a big issue.||The staff overall were warm, helpful, and genuinely welcoming. Special mention to the bartender (unfortunately we didn’t catch his name!) a fun and friendly guy who gave us great tips on local places worth visiting, like quiet and safe beaches. We appreciated that a lot!||This was a once in a lifetime experience and exactly the kind of honeymoon we had dreamed of. Thank you to everyone at Maia!

My husband and I went to Anantara Maia Villas to celebrate our anniversary. We took our 16 month old with us and it was a phenomenal experience. The check in was quick and as we arrived they addressed us by name without asking and had everything set up already. The room had everything needed for a baby and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us with the baby. They made her tasty smoothies and some of the staff in the restaurant even took her and rocked her to sleep so we could have romantic time as a couple. ||Our butler was Adeel and he did an amazing job caring for us from start to finish. He made sure we were all well fed and even packed us food to go on our excursion early in the morning and made sure we had a nice spread of our favorite foods to send us off to the airport when we were leaving. His attention to detail was exceptional and he set up a nice and romantic bubble bath for us in our room at sundown to celebrate our anniversary. He is such a hard worker and we were impressed with him handling all our many many bags and just seamlessly catering to our every need with a smile. He also made sure the room was ALWAYS spotless and clean. Just wow!!||The villa is huge and we were speechless as we walked the space. It is one of the best rooms, if not the best room, we’ve stayed in and had jaw dropping views. The weather was perfect and it didn’t rain at all throughout our stay. ||The food was exceptional! The best curry we have ever had and the fish pizza was something different we tried and was amazing!!!!! I felt so sad to leave because everyone we met made us feel like we were VIP on a private island to ourselves. We didn’t see many of the other guests throughout our stay so it truly felt like we were on a private island paradise! We would absolutely return without any reservations! ||A nice touch was having the resort managers introduce themselves at dinner and make sure everything was to our liking. ||Thank you to all the staff at Anantara Maia! The drivers, the staff at the restaurants, the. Chefs, the staff catering to us on the beach, the managers, and most but not least our butler Adeel! You made us feel paradise on Earth! Thank you for your love!

Small luxury Hotel with stand-alone Villas nestled on the hills with a stunning view over the beach and coastline. The Villa we had was spacious and had a very big outdoor patio with a large overflow pool and an outdoor bathtub. Staff and Management are very professional and friendly. Selection and quality of food are excellent. Prices in general are high - like in all 5-star hotels on the island. I want to highlight Ms. Hanan our Villa Host, who made our stay really extraordinary. She is a superstar, professional, welcoming and always ready to assist. She provided us with great recommendations for day trips and the best was the outstanding breakfast served on our terrace. Things to improve: -Villas and resort need an urgent upgrade/renovation, Outdoor shower was missing -Service in the restaurant has to be improved -Resort pool is small and surrounded with Kids' Water Toys -The beach should be cleaned more frequently

We would like to thank Theo our personal villa host who made our stay magical and the Chef, whose cooking is outstanding. Also special thanks to Anil who made sure that our stay was remarkable. Another 5 star experience at Anantara.

What a disappointment - rather, a mess. Nowhere near the expectactions that brand and price tag carry. A souless place for new money that wish to feel spoiled by having a subvservient butler that doesnt anything that a regular staff at a hotel would not do for you.||It is not exactly a hotel. These are villas that are serviced. The facilities are almost non-existent: one restaurant to have all the meals of the day (or order to your villa) + a spa. No atmosphere at all, book only if you wish to be isolated but there are better places for sure. The hotel offers nothing but the stay at the villa and access to pool: you are a hostage at your hotel of suggested activities to keep you busy, all at speculative prices. Your villa pool is cold. The general pool is tiny and water is cold as well. Beach of the hotel is 5 meters long, they beach shown in pictures is a lateral beach. In one evening, villa had no hot water. The tap lever fell.||Food quality is ok or sub-par depending on what you order. Coming from Constance Lemuria Praslin, you almost cry after landing here. Service is confused. Breakfast is a la carte, but they place everything on the table at the same time |after 20 minutes of wait. Obviously, some of your requests are cold by then. In one breakfast, they managed to bring all the juices to the table after we had eaten (except for an expresso coffe, brought mid-meal...!)||In one dinner, starters and mains were all brought to the table at the same time (we were not near the closing time of the restaurant, even if that could be argued as a justification). There was no sommelier to discuss the wine - and this is a suppsedly award winner resort on wine matters per Wine Spectator. (So is Constance Lemuria in Praslin, where more than one sommelier would be ready to lively talk about and suggest wines on an always pleasant chat). Management should hop on a flight and have a 3 day stay at Constance Lemuria, Praslin, to understand how to serve diverse guests with quality. ||Again, prices are speculative. We rented a car to find a contract of a previous guest in the glove box that had been charged less 25eur per day. After complaining, obviously they corrected the price. It is not about the money: that's the price of a glass of wine here. It's the feeling that you are being constantly squeezed for speculative prices. Note: Seychelles are expensive, but this is on another level. Again, new-money prices.||Top it up, the breakfast for departure. Firstly, we got an unprompted wake up call at 4am (we would be waking up at 4h30m) confirming if we wanted breakfast (we had a butler to arrange this, supposedly, which he did, supposedly, the evening before). We made our requests the evening before as requested and we receive a disproportionate amount of food - example being one pineapple for two pax. While generosity is to be commended, this is just bad service. They sent us a jar of juice with no glasses to drink from. Yoghurts with no spoons. Boiled eggs that were not fully boiled... A total trainwreck. ||The spa is ok - better be, at 200eur+ per 60min massage.||It must be noted that we do not attribute this to the staff. The staff is kind and caring and do their best. Mike at the pool is a lively character, Vishnu (butler) would do anything we asked and was really trying to make things work for us.||The problem here is the concept and the management - things are not working well. For the price tag and advertised service, this is simply a no-pass. Spend your money elsewhere.

Our stay at Anantara Maia was one of the most memorable and beautiful holidays we’ve ever had. We were accommodated in a stunning beachfront villa featuring a private pool, garden, and seating area – all offering complete privacy and surrounded by lush tropical greenery. A special thanks goes to Mr. Laxman, who looked after us throughout our stay. His kindness, attentiveness, and professionalism truly enhanced our experience. The resort’s culinary offering was outstanding, with a variety of cuisines ensuring there was something for every taste. Our children especially enjoyed the daily activities organized by the staff – from crab hunting and pizza-making classes to coconut painting and creating seashell art. Every member of the team was friendly, smiling, and genuinely helpful. We didn’t encounter a single issue during our stay. I wholeheartedly recommend this resort to anyone seeking a peaceful, luxurious, and family-friendly getaway.
