The Best Hotels in the Seychelles

"Anantara, best known for its hotels and resorts throughout Asia, made its Seychelles debut with Anantara Maia Seychelles Villas. All 30 thatched-roof villas are identical in terms of size and layout, measuring an impressive 2,691 square feet each. Entrance is through a tall wooden door and stone pathway, leading to a wealth of picture-perfect indoor and outdoor spaces.  Outside, first find a covered, open-air dining and living area, mini-kitchen and bar, where a fridge remains fully stocked with your favorite wines. An infinity pool provides an idyllic spot for soaking in the scene and appreciating the Seychelles’s splendor. Anatara Maia Seychelles Villas

"Why book? Thai-based hotel brand Anantara brings excellence to the Seychelles through a rebrand of a 30-villa, Bill Bensley–designed hideaway on a private peninsula fringed by white-sand beaches and towering granite boulders. Set the scene Along the southwest coast of the Seychelles main island of Mahé, the hillside resort occupies 30 acres, situated on a dreamy, petite peninsula separating Anse Louis and Anse Boileau. A key theme here is ultra-privacy, which is evidenced by design and operation. Sprinkled among the forest-cloaked hillside and beachfront gardens are 30 thatched villas, measuring 2,691 square feet each complete with slick, transitional indoor-outdoor spaces, including a lengthy infinity pool, and fabulous views of the Seychelles’ iconic ocean blues. A dedicated Villa Host is assigned exclusively to each villa and serves as concierge, server, room attendant, personal assistant and more. A “Beyond All Inclusive” policy means all food and beverage (alcoholic and non) are included and can be enjoyed in-villa in addition to the main restaurant, Tec Tec. Given this set up of wanting for nothing in a private villa, it’s no surprise that many guests choose to stay put. They’ll journey out for a bit of spa or beach time, but luxuriate mostly “at home.” When you do spot other guests, you’ll see that you are sharing the resort equally with jet-setting couples seeking romance and well-heeled families looking to spend time together. The backstory Anantara, best known for its hotels and resorts throughout Asia, made its Seychelles debut with Anantara Maia Seychelles Villas. It’s the brand’s seventh property in the Indian Ocean, joining two resorts in Sri Lanka, one in Mauritius and three in the Maldives. Instead of a new build, Anantara took over, rebranded, and refreshed one of the Seychelles’ most exclusive properties, Maia Luxury Resort & Spa, which opened in September 2006 to a groundswell of rave reviews. The property was designed by Bill Bensley and Lek Bunnag, two of the world’s top luxury resort and hotel architects, who brought a coastal Asian-influenced aesthetic  to the prehistoric beaches of Africa (The Seychelles’ boulder-strewn Inner islands represent the last remaining landscapes of 75-million-year-old supercontinent Gondwana.) In late 2020, Anantara acquired the resort, added an Anantara Spa, did a soft refresh of the property, and introduced the much-loved “Beyond All Inclusive” policy.  The rooms All 30 thatched-roof villas are identical in terms of size and layout, measuring an impressive 2,691 square feet each. Entrance is through a tall wooden door and stone pathway, leading to a wealth of picture-perfect indoor and outdoor spaces.  Outside, first find a covered, open-air dining and living area, mini-kitchen and bar, where a fridge remains fully stocked with your favorite wines. An infinity pool provides an idyllic spot for soaking in the scene and appreciating the Seychelles’ splendor. The infinity pool segues to a second, ornamental pool with a deep, soaking bathtub at its core, flanked by chaise loungers, partially submerged in the water. Indoors, the bedroom exudes understated elegance, marked by carved natural stone, and intricate woodwork, and connects to a colossal bathroom, where the maxi-sized Hermès Bath Collection amenities are yours for the keeping.  Where the villas differ are the views: some are situated hilltop, lending to more sweeping ocean vistas, while those closer to sea level peninsula see a bit less water and more foliage but offer a comparative advantage of direct beach access. Villa rates start at $2,879 per night. Food and drink The resort has a single open-air restaurant, Tec Tec, but its menus are many. Options span dozens of (digital) pages and multiple cuisines from Creole to Mediterranean to Indian (It’s also possible to request off-menu items.) The variety is so great it would be hard to try everything over a week, even if overindulging (and trust us, once you try the food, you’ll want to gorge!). All menu items are available in-villa and there are no set times for ordering or limits thanks to the “Beyond All Inclusive” concept. Those staying in a Premier Villa for more than 3 nights are also privy to unlimited Dining by Design, meaning that meal experiences can be set up on the beach, in the garden—basically anywhere you’d like on property—for no extra charge.  The spa At the Anantara Spa, find a fully-equipped TechnoGym fitness center plus three, open-air, thatched-roof treatment pavilions, dressed in colorful daybeds and wooden accents. Therapists hail from Thailand and Bali and deliver the best in therapies from their native countries alongside spa mainstays and more. One treatment to try is The Maia Signature Massage, which is a long-stroke and stretch-heavy treatment developed specifically for the resort. Another standout of this spa is a kids’ wellness menu, which includes treatments like the Happy Feet foot scrub and massage, and allows the family that travels together to spa together. The neighborhood/area Given its location on a private peninsula and its allure of ultra-privacy, the resort feels like its own private community.  Those heading off property, can walk to Anse Boileau, a small fishing village a few minutes away, with a local market and a Catholic church. A quick taxi or rental car can get you one of the island’s myriad hiking trails, renowned sites like Jardins Du Roi spice garden and museum, and the capital of Victoria. The resort can also arrange day trips to neighboring islands. The service The service at Anantara Maia is tops, thanks mainly to the role of the designated Villa Host. Of course there are dozens more working behind the scenes to make your stay a memorable one, but this host is your first point of contact, available 24/7 by What’s App. The Villa Host is for your villa–and yours only–and is based on-property to anticipate any and all needs. As someone who has tested out butler and hosting services at the world’s foremost resorts, Maia truly ranks among the best. Our Villa Host, Dolores, was a sheer delight and made the difference between an excellent and a thoroughly amazing stay.  For families It’s true that the setting feels utterly romantic, but there are plenty of families who also appreciate Maia. Those traveling with teens tend to choose neighboring Premier Beach Pool Villas, which interconnect through the garden. Those with tykes and tots can opt for a single Premier Beach Villa, which accommodates two adults and two children up to the age of 17. While there’s no Kid’s Club per se, the resort offers a Very Important Kids Program, tailor made to include water sports, cooking, painting and more, all supervised by the recreation team. Professional babysitters, with whom the resort regularly works with, are also on call and available by the hour.  Eco effort In partnership with NGO Marine Conservation Society Seychelles (MCSS), Anantara Maia conducts quarterly beach clean ups and has developed a long-term sea turtle monitoring program on Anse Louis beach, a nesting beach for Hawksbill and Green turtles. Anything left to mention? The in-villa luxuries and Maia’s idyllic setting make it hard to leave the premises, but the island of Mahe—and the Seychelles overall—are epic destinations. Complement a leisurely stay at Maia with a few nights at a mid-range hotel, during which you can engage in active pursuits, island hop, and fully experience the Seychelles’ unparalleled natural beauty." - Paul Rubio

Anantara Maia Seychelles Villas (Mahe, Seychelles) Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"This is the sort of location that lends itself to broad rhetorical flourishes. It’s tempting to say that a setting like this one, on a rocky hillside above the sheltered Anse Louis, on the west side of Mahé island, renders architects and designers just about redundant. Of course it’s not quite literally true that we would happily sleep in a tent, or a trailer, or a cardboard box, to be faced with such a view. And anyway it’s academic, because Maia Luxury Resort, as it actually exists, is a subtle masterwork by Bill Bensley, the man who’s responsible for quite a lot of what’s currently viewed as the prevailing Southeast Asian and Indian Ocean luxury villa style." - Tablet Hotels

Our stay here was unforgettable, not just because the resort is beautiful but because of the extraordinary people who work here. Badsha was genuinely exceptional. He did everything without us even asking. He brought me different fruits to try, and when I mentioned starfruit casually, he went and picked some fresh on his own, then cut them for me so I could enjoy them properly. He was always perfectly on time, as if he memorized our entire schedule, and he arranged everything around what we needed before we even realized we needed it. He prepared a bath for us, kept everything spotless at all times, brought us lemongrass, and even arranged a complimentary jet lag massage. His kindness, attention to detail, and initiative made our stay feel incredibly personal and luxurious.||Mike and Mervin were absolutely adorable. They made us bracelets and necklaces, collected shells for us, and Mervin also took us snorkeling and taught us how to surf. Their warmth and enthusiasm added so much joy to our trip.||Every staff member we met was genuinely warm, but I have to highlight Louisella, who took such amazing care of us, and Chef Hans, whose attention to detail was remarkable. He prepared every meal exactly the way we liked it and made sure everything was perfect.||Claire was also incredibly sweet. She constantly checked on us and genuinely wanted to make sure every detail of our stay was perfect.||And Rihanna was wonderfully friendly. She even danced with us along with the other waiters, creating some of our happiest memories here.||I truly loved my stay, not only because of the breathtaking scenery but because the staff made it feel like home. Their kindness, dedication, and genuine care made our experience exceptional, and they truly deserve recognition for the amazing work they do.

Beautiful hotel, really lovely staff. We spent a wonderful week here over New Year and it didn’t disappoint. Our room had a fantastic view and was very private. Our own pool, outdoor bath, and the room was spacious and clean. Pack spray for anti-mosquitoes! One area for improvement - while the staff were very accommodating and willing to help, the food service in the restaurant and to the room was very slow. Luckily, this didn’t impact us too much so we still had the most fantastic time!

My husband and I stayed at Anantara Maia Seychelles for our honeymoon, and after traveling to some of the most incredible places around the world, we didn’t think anywhere could top those experiences until now… this resort surpassed every expectation we had!!||From the moment we arrived everything was perfection - the villa was immaculate and kept spotless with a room refresh at least twice a day, which made our stay extremely luxurious. The amenities were exceptional and truly elevated the entire experience.||What really blew us away was the staff at the resort! Every single staff member we encountered was warm, welcoming and genuinely caring. It made the biggest difference and we felt it everywhere we went. ||A very special shoutout to our Villa Host, Baadshah, who went above and beyond every single day and night. He made our stay unforgettable with his kindness, attention to detail, and sincere desire to make sure we had the best experience possible. He is truly one of the kindest people we have ever met.||We also want to mention Head Chef Hans, who personally greets guests daily, checks in about the food and makes you feel right at home. Not only is he incredibly warm, but his food is absolutely phenomenal, the best we have ever had anywhere in the world. Every meal was amazing. ||From the service, to the food, to the villas, to the breathtaking surroundings, we could not fault a single thing. We were honestly left speechless at how perfect everything was.||We will 1000% be returning and will recommend Anantara Seychelles to evreryone. This resort made our honeymoon magical, and we are so grateful for the memories we will carry with us forever.

We came to the Seychelles Anantara Maia for our honeymoon and the trip EXCEEDED our expectations. The location alone is absolutely breathtaking. From the expansive ocean views to the lush, richly landscaped gardens, I truly felt like I had stepped into actual paradise. The property is intimate, with only 30 private villas, each featuring its own infinity pool and patio. There is a level of tranquility and exclusivity here that is incredibly hard to find elsewhere.||Our villa host, Baadshah, deserves special recognition. He went above and beyond to ensure our honeymoon was nothing short of perfect. He was so attentive to anything we even HINTED at, making our trip especially curated for us. Every night we came back to our villa with a nice surprise from Baadshah, whether it be a romantic bath, chocolates and champagne, or beautiful artwork to help set the scene. He even was able to coordinate a private dining experience on the property’s helipad!! Talk about PEAK romance!! By the end of the trip, we were joking that he had become the unofficial “romance coordinator” of our honeymoon — anticipating our needs, creating special moments, and making us feel completely cared for throughout our stay.||The exceptional service did not just stop there-our stay was elevated by the entire resort staff as well. With so few guests on property, the experience feels deeply personal — the staff genuinely gets to know you, your preferences, and how you like to spend your time. We really enjoyed visiting the spa (twice!!) and had treatments with Aiyu and Darlene. Best massages I’ve had- helped beat the jet lag IMMEDIATELY. Even our second massage was rejuvenating and refreshing- after spending the week already relaxing! We loved seeing the friendly faces at breakfast each morning as well- I believe Rosalin was our waitress’ name at breakfast each morning. She was a delight! Always remembered how much I loved papaya every morning. ||Another memorable experience we had was with the grounds keeper, Mr Allen. He took us on a 1 hour garden tour of the resort and it was so much fun!! He showed us the different plants, spices, and trees that cover the entire property- we had no idea we had a cinnamon tree just right outside our villa!! It was such a unique way to learn about the natural plants of the Seychelles, and how they are able to use the resources on the property for the kitchen as well! Mr. Allen even took us to meet the tortoises on the property and visit the fish pond at the entrance villa :) ||Every interaction felt thoughtful, warm, and effortlessly attentive. The exceptional service paired with the beautiful views is hard to beat!!! ||We are already planning our next trip back!! We can’t recommend this resort enough.

Our trip to Seychelles was unforgettable, and this hotel played a huge part in making it truly special. From the moment we stepped in, the staff made us feel welcomed, valued, and genuinely cared for.||Jafar, who looked after our villa, was exceptional in every way. His thoughtful gestures and warm personality made all the difference. He created a lovely movie night setup, surprised us with warm drinks at just the right moments, and arranged beautifully romantic touches that made our anniversary feel incredibly meaningful. He even took the time to set up mosquito repellent for us every morning and evening something so simple, yet done with so much attention. His dedication really stood out, and we couldn’t be more appreciative.||The hotel team as a whole was equally attentive. When they saw we were dealing with mosquitoes, they surprised us with a beautifully scented candle to help keep them away a small but incredibly thoughtful gesture that showed how observant and caring they are.||Rihanna and Rolin made every dining experience a joy. Their kindness, friendliness, and warm energy made us feel like we were eating with people who truly cared about our comfort and happiness. Each meal felt personal and filled with heart.||A big thank you! as well to Dushan for taking such good care of our dietary needs. Everything at the bar was prepared with such attention to detail that we could relax and enjoy every drink without worry.||We’re also grateful to Coco and Chaz for an amazing snorkeling outing. As beginners, we were a little nervous, but their guidance, patience, and reassuring nature turned it into an unforgettable experience. They helped us feel safe while showing us the stunning underwater world.||The property itself is beautiful and peaceful, but what truly made our stay remarkable was the people. Jafar, Rihanna, Rolin, Dushan, Coco, Chaz, and the rest of the team made our anniversary celebration so much more meaningful than we ever expected.||An incredible stay filled with warmth, kindness, and memories we’ll hold onto forever. We recommend this place without hesitation.

My wife and I recently spent a week at Anantara, and our experience was truly exceptional. The property is stunning, peaceful, and beautifully integrated into its natural surroundings, offering breathtaking views in every direction.||What made our stay extraordinary, however, were the people. Chef Hans was above and beyond remarkable. We had special dietary needs and he personally prepared our meals each day, and every dish was creative, delicious, and made with genuine care. Together with Fabio, he delivered one of the most memorable culinary experiences we’ve had anywhere.||Our villa butler, Wasim, was another standout: warm, attentive, and consistently thoughtful. He made everything feel effortless and truly elevated our stay. A special mention as well to Mike at the pool and beach, who added so much charm and positivity to each day.||A few small points that could make an already excellent stay even better:|- Parts of the hotel and villa feel a bit dated and may benefit from an upgrade.|- Smoking in the pool area affects the otherwise relaxing environment.|- Service in some areas (outside the exceptional chef and butler team) could be slightly more consistent. For example, the main pool was not always spotless, and comments about this did not seem to be fully addressed.||These are minor observations in the context of an outstanding stay. We still highly recommend this property - the hospitality, the culinary experience, and the overall atmosphere make it a truly special place, and we would gladly return.

Just perfect. Everything, down to the minimal detail, is amazing. The villa we stayed in were beautiful, with elegant design, incredibly comfortable bed, and offered the most amazing view of the bay, with stunning sunset lights and lush vegetation all around. The service was perfect from the first moment, and Mary, our villa host, was absolutely sensational. The food was delicious as well, with great choice of local and international dishes. Absolutely amazing, thank you Anantara Maia!
