How to Visit Bangkok on a Budget

"Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort is one of Bangkok's most opulent spots where you can book a luxe room for about $200 a night if booked in advance or in the low season." - Margot Bigg Margot Bigg Margot Bigg is a freelance travel writer and editor who has spent most of her adult life traveling and living overseas. "The Anantara Riverside’s immense grounds of tropical gardens make it feel a bit like a resort escape, even though it’s a hotel in the middle of one of the world’s busiest cities. Green pathways wind past lily ponds and under shady, flower-filled trees, all lit by the flicker of torches at night. With its direct riverfront location, cooling breezes help tame the hot air, and there are always local boats puttering by. This is a great choice for families with little ones who need space and can benefit from a nice big swimming pool and plenty of in-house dining options. There are myriad activities on offer, from renowned river cruises to walking tours, but when guests do want to take on the city, the heart of Bangkok is a quick—and free—ferry shuttle across the river. The hotel is also popular with Thai tourists, giving travelers opportunities for cultural connections."

We arrived at the resort after a 30 hour trip and the receptionist immediately offered a room for us to relax; we were not pressured into any extra amenities. ||The resort is beautiful! The grounds are lovely and the layout is expansive so you can take some time to stroll the grounds and really admire the beauty surrounding you. The dining experiences were phenomenal; they offered a variety of food to satisfy any palate. ||One great perk is the river taxi which will take you to the first port, where you can get to other locations along Bangkok. ||I cannot recommend this resort enough, everyone was helpful and friendly.

Date : 15/11/25- 18/11/25 Staying at the Anantara Bangkok Riverside Resort & Spa was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment I arrived, the hospitality and warm welcome made me feel instantly at home. A special mention goes to Mr. Kohseng at the reception—his professionalism, kindness, and genuine desire to help set the tone for my entire stay. He went above and beyond to ensure everything was smooth and comfortable. His service is truly top-tier and reflects the high standards of the hotel. The housekeeping team also deserves praise. My room was always impeccably clean, fresh, and beautifully arranged. Every detail—from the linen to the thoughtful touches—showed how dedicated and attentive the staff are. The overall hospitality and vibe of the resort were simply outstanding. The peaceful riverside setting, the lush atmosphere, and the warm smiles from every staff member made the stay feel luxurious yet homey. Whether relaxing by the river, enjoying the facilities, or interacting with the team, the experience was consistently five-star. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Bangkok. I’ll definitely return!

Stayed here 23/11 - 28/11 2025 (Anatara Riverview Suite)||If you are looking for a hotel in Bangkok and at the same time want to stay at a resort on an island, this hotel is as close as you can get. The hotel's exterior environment makes you forget that you are in Bangkok. The service level at this hotel is at a level you normally wouldn't even dream of. The next superlative is the breakfast, service, selection, quality and facilities are at such a level that it must be experienced to be described. The breakfast alone is the reason you want to stay here.||The hotel is just as suitable for staying for a couple of nights as for spending a week or two. It is a relatively expensive hotel, but you get a lot for your money.||We tried the lounge that was included in our room. The lounge is next to the reception. The location could be better, would have been cozier if it had been located down towards the river. The price per day/person is 1800 Baht (approx. $56). This includes breakfast in the morning, canapés between 2 pm - 4 pm and at 5 pm there will be cheese/crackers/charcuterie, tasting of a few different snacks and soup. Drinks are included as well as alcohol. The food is good and well-prepared. If you are only going to eat something small it may be expensive.||Pool bar:|Can highly recommend their:|Loy Nam Wagyu Cheeseburger,|200 grams waguy hamburger with cheese and fries.|Pulled Beef Cheek Nachos.||Two absolutely fantastic dishes. Waguy is always waguy with all that it means in taste, but the beef cheek is also awesome in taste and consistency.||Pros:|The service level of all staff is extremely high.|The outdoor environment around the hotel.|Pool.|Hot whirlpool.|Clean and fresh room.|Boat to ICONSIAM mall.||The overall impression of the breakfast is:|Selection 10+ (1- spartan - 10 overwhelming selection).|Quality 10+ (1- terrible - 10 highest possible quality).|Value for money 10+ (1- not worth - 10 absolutely worth the money).||Value for money on the entire stay 8 (see below**). Rating is lowered by the fact that the rooms need to be refreshed and renovated.||**(Throws money down the drain 0 - Break Even 5 - Highest profit 10).||Cons:|The hotel is starting to get old and needs some TLC (rumor has it that it will start next year).|If you don't want to eat at the hotel there is very little choice of restaurants around.|River facing rooms in the building closest to the motorway may experience noise.||Bed firmness 4 (see below*). Mattress needs to be replaced.||*(Sinks through 0 - Average 5 - lies on top of the mattress 10).

Great hotel. Spacious, clean and nicely decorated. You can spend your entire day here. There are several restaurants on site. It’s also connected to Avani and riverside plaza which you can walk over. Service was excellent. We dined at Sala Lakorn. The performance was fun and amazing. The dinner buffet was nice but I prefer the breakfast buffet. Location is also perfect. It’s located on the riverside and offers shuttle boats to Iconsiam, river city and sathorn pier. We celebrated our anniversary there. They decorated the bed very nicely for us. Overall we had a really great time staying there for our anniversary.

We stayed in November and had a wonderful experience at Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort. Check-in was smooth and seamless, and we were kindly upgraded—a gesture we really appreciated.||Our garden-view room was spacious, comfortable, and tranquil, perfect for unwinding after busy days in Bangkok. The pool is lovely and nice and deep, great for a proper swim. We also did the river cruise dinner, which was very special—beautiful views and a memorable evening on the Chao Phraya.|Breakfast was outstanding each morning: amazing selection and a lovely riverside setting to start the day. The riverside location itself is a big plus—peaceful resort vibes with the city just beyond.||A highlight for us was feeding the fish each morning for good luck—a charming ritual that made the stay feel unique.||Downsides? None for us. We’d happily return and highly recommend this resort for anyone seeking a relaxing base in Bangkok with excellent service and facilities.

From the moment we arrived, every detail was handled with such warmth and care. Our room was stunning, beautifully designed, spotlessly clean, and had a breathtaking view of the river that made every morning and evening feel magical. Ms Budsara was so kind and helpful, ensuring everything was perfect in our room. The entire experience was seamless, from the attentive service and thoughtful touches to the incredible dining experiences that exceeded every expectation. A heartfelt thank you for making my parents’ birthdays so special. The kindness, personal touches, and genuine hospitality of the team made their celebrations truly memorable. We left with full hearts and wonderful memories, and we are already looking forward to returning to this beautiful place.

We recently stayed at the Anantara riverside for four nights. We loved the hotel with its beautiful grounds and location on the river. The pool area is surrounded by trees and planting and has a large pool and separate jacuzzi with plenty of beds and attentive pool staff. Our room was of a good size and kept very clean by the housekeeping staff. The hotel has a range of restaurants and is also very near to the Avani + hotel and its adjoined shopping centre. While there is not a BTS station nearby the hotel provides a regular river shuttle to the station across the river which is probably quicker than using the BTS itself (it also goes to the Iconsiam shopping area). The staff were lovely and a special mention to the spa staff and the wonderful treatment I enjoyed there. We would definitely recommend this hotel and very much enjoyed our stay here.

What a lovely hotel resort in the heart of Bangkok. Stayed here for 3 nights before moving on to Koh Samet. Wonderful staff, lovely food, great rooms, comfy beds and a boat shuttle to take you into the city. The riverside bar is a beautiful place to spend time either before dinner or after, loved it here. There are lots of staff that are always ready to help with any issue, you just have to ask. The concierge service(big thanks to Diamond G and colleagues) was amazing! Planned a wonderful day trip for us which was not on our agenda, taking in the train market, floating markets and elephants park. marvelous! Need a cab? Just ask. Need help out and about, just give them a call. Front desk helped with a travel adapter, and room was cleaned and tidied every day to a high standard. We didn't use all the many facilities, but they looked great. Loads of restaurants which were lovely too! I'll shut up now! 😃🙏
